After project 1, we learned how to break down a image to the simple elements. Now taking our new skills on analyzing we have been tasked with understanding a Unknown city figure ground and diagraming it to it simple elements, later being able to create our own expansion for the figure ground itself.

Project 2: Dupont circle Using our previous analytical methods we chose Case studies based on areas within our Geographical region from a list provided. Firstly Visiting the site and studying physical and Perceived connections. We then went on to Diagram and identify nodes, landmarks and Edges.
Hierarchy of roads given a Stronger solid symbol and Red lines representing Secondary roads
Building edges along the roads create a connection for pedestrians interact with amenities along the street scape allowing for stronger pedestrians circulation
Major amenities within the site have a connection to center through the use roads Figure Ground 18

Unknown City
Project 2: CITY 8
Hierarchy of the center creates a connection with roads bleeding into building edges
We were tasked to understand and analyze the Existing elements of a selected figure ground By exploring through drawing, diagramming and Building. We then hypothesized how our Selected cities grow and evolve by creating a New quadrant that extends from the original Figure ground.
Symmetry of the circle create equal alignment with roads creating a space that free for pedestrians
Major roads play a huge factor in the circulation through out each ring
Major road on site create three zones that divide the use of space, allowing for a variety of experiences
Both Major and secondary roads combined creates different zones allowing for areas to be become there own experiences , but sharing a common point of connection Figure Ground 20

Project 2: CITY 8
The circle plays as focal point, and allow for different developments to meet as one. In the case of the expanding city, a grid was used to create a sense order and symmetry.
Using the grid design to create symmetry within the expanded city. A open space was created to divide the city in to zones. One section with open space and a section with high building density.
Major amenities have connections to the center creating different experience and developing a network with the expanded city’.

We were then tasked to find and develop five different areas for intervention that can have an impact the entire site, the areas chosen are located in Different places from one another. These places range from areas near route 40 ,all the way up to north ave.

HOW DO WE CAPTURE THE ESSENCE OF DOWNTOWN BALTIMORE , WHILE TRYING TO GROW THE LOCAL ECONOMY OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD
A good view of downtown Baltimore is highly visible from Franklin st.
A total of 8 redeveloped inner- block parks are on the site and majority are near Franklin st.
On Franklin st. is ability to walk is a struggle due to reconstruction on the sidewalks
Franklin st. holds some of the highest vacancy being over 70% per block

HOW CAN WE CREATE A SOCIAL HUB FOR RESIDENTS TO INTERACT WITH ?
THE AREA NEAR NORTH AVE HAS TONS OF OPEN LOTS CREATING OPEN SPACE, BUT THE UPKEEP ON EACH OF THESE LOTS IS VERY POOR.
ON THE CONNER ON NORTH AVE AND FULTON ST., IS HEAVY TRAFFIC FOR BOTH PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR DUE TO A POPULAR CONNER STORE AND A FOUR WAY INTERSECTION.
Up TO SIX CHURCHES OCCUPY THE AREA NEAR NORTH AVE
BOTH VACANT AND OCCUPIED HOUSE ARE PRESENT IN THE RESIDENTIAL QUARTER NEAR NORTH AVE.
