DOG PARKS

WHANGĀREI PUBLIC DOG PARK

You’ll find this on Dave Culham Drive. Dogs can have a go on the agility equipment and make new pals in the fenced area and there is shelter for owners when the weather isn’t particularly people friendly.

MAIR PARK, REGENT, WHANGĀREI

A great one if you have the kids and fur baby in tow; they can enjoy some off-leash time and you can enjoy the beautiful surrounds. There are well-maintained tracks down to the riverside, where water-loving dogs can take a dip alongside the ducks.

BARGE SHOWGROUNDS, WHANGĀREI

Plenty of room for those with energy to burn. Dogs can dash around to their heart’s content off-leash, except for in the wetland areas.

CHECK OUT

ROLAND’S WOOD KERIKERI

This woodland wonderland is a little slice of heaven, as intended by Roland Samson, who gifted it to the people (but really to the dogs) of Kerikeri. Visiting in September is especially rewarding as the bluebells are out in full force; you’ll get some incredible Instagramable-worthy photos.

WAIPU GLAMPING

Take a break and treat your best friend to this glamping haven near Waipu, in Bream Bay. It’s overlooking a native reserve and just a short drive from some of Northland’s most beautiful beaches and walks.
