T
he Taranaki coast is home to much more than just the surf. There are funky cafés, art and craft studios and more, handily located in the towns along the route – Ōakura, Ōkato, Ōpunake and Manaia. Tap into the area’s rich history: discover the history of the Cape Egmont Lighthouse, visit shipwrecks and more as you pass through the distinctive landscape. Almost every road that heads towards the coast leads to a beach or surf break, with Ōakura and Ōpunake particularly popular beaches – both are patrolled by lifeguards over the summer months.
