November 14, 2004 On behalf of the staff of the Eastern Region, it is our pleasure to offer the official convention call for the 73rd Eastern Region Convention to be held April 28 – May 1, 2005.

Once again we look forward to the wonderful time at our next regional convention. The brothers of the Region Staff, in conjunction with the brothers in the Pittsburgh area are working feverishly to produce a family friendly convention worthy of your participation.

We are extremely excited, for this year’s convention will be held in conjunction with the Sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Great Lakes Region. This convention at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel in Pittsburgh Downtown Gateway Center will prove to be another spectacular moment in the wrap-up of my tenure. This year’s convention will continue the thrust of “Preparing for Transition to Higher Heights” as we rekindle our good “ole” Alpha Spirit, continue progress as a region “First of All, Leading the Way”, and further the fraternity’s goals and objectives. During this time you will be encouraged to mingle with brothers, learn more about the national programs and special project implementation and participate in personal and fraternal related workshops. Your expertise as a professional is invaluable to the growth and development of our members as current and future professionals.

Through the professional/career workshops component of the convention, you or your company have the opportunity to share ideas, leadership practice, professional knowledge and enhance the student learning of the college brothers in the fraternity. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is dedicated to providing its members with opportunity for professional and personal advancement through a variety of mediums.

PROPOSAL CRITERIA

In order for any proposal to be fully considered, a proposal package must be submitted no later than Feb. 1, 2005. The proposal must include the following items: 1. Completed Program Proposal Form 2. A document with the following information: A. Title B. Description (no more than 60 words) to be used for the conference program.

C. Program purpose, intended outcomes, a brief outline, and a description of materials.

FROM THE EAST - PA Turnpike (I-76 West) to Exit #57 Monroeville-Pittsburgh onto Parkway 376 West. Exit 376 at #1B Exit, Stanwix Street (left-hand exit). At the light, make a left onto Ft. Pitt Boulevard. Continue on Ft. Pitt Boulevard and make a right onto Commonwealth Place. Go through 2 traffic lights and the Hilton is on the right.

FROM THE WEST - PA Turnpike (I-76 East) to Exit #28 onto Route 19 South to I-79 South. I-79 South merges into 279 South. Follow 279 South signs for

Airport/Fort Pitt Bridge. On the bridge, get into the second lane from the left (it will say Ft. Duquesne Blvd.). Exit left of the bridge and go down the ramp to Fort Duquesne Blvd. At the first street light, make a right onto Stanwix Street. At the next light, make a right onto Liberty Avenue. Go to the next traffic light and make a right. This is Commonwealth Place, and the Hilton is directly on your right.

FROM THE NORTH - I-79 South merges into 279 South. Follow 279 South signs for Airport/Fort Pitt Bridge. Follow this sign over the Fort Duquesne Bridge and

take the Fort Duquesne Boulevard Ramp. At the first light, turn right onto Stanwix Street. At the second light, make a right onto Liberty Avenue. At the next light, make a right onto Commonwealth Place. The Hilton is on your right.

FROM PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - When you exit the airport, take a left and follow the signs to Pittsburgh to the Ft. Pitt Tunnel. Go

through the tunnel, which will bring you onto the Ft. Pitt Bridge. At the first light (at the end of the bridge) make a left onto Commonwealth Place . The Hilton is on your right.

FROM THE SOUTH - Take 279 North through the Fort Pitt tunnel and over the Fort Pitt Bridge to the Liberty Avenue Exit. At the first light, make a left onto Commonwealth Place. The Hilton is on your right.

FROM OAKLAND - Follow Fifth Avenue and stay in the second lane from the left. Go through approximately 8 lights and make a left onto Craft Avenue. At the

first light, make a right onto Forbes Avenue. Follow signs for Downtown. Road will yield onto 376 West. Exit #1C Grant Street (left-hand exit). At the second light, make a left onto Boulevard of the Allies. Take this until the Boulevard ends and make a right onto Commonwealth Place. Go through 2 traffic lights and the Hilton is on the right side.
