FIRST 25 RIOT SUSPECTS NOW CHARGED JEFF NAGEL (Black Press)
Twenty-five alleged rioters have now been charged for their roles in the June 15 Stanley Cup riot in downtown Vancouver. Nine of the accused in the first wave of charges are from Surrey, eight are from Vancouver, two each are from Burnaby and Maple Ridge, and one each are from Delta, Richmond, North Vancouver and Seattle. All are charged with participating in a riot and nearly all are also charged with additional counts of either mischief or break and enter. Three are also charged with arson – 21-year-old Delta resident Lincoln Kennedy Williams, Surrey’s Alicia Price, 22, and Burnaby’s Timothy Kwong, 30. Vancouver Police allege Williams smashed the tail lights and window of a parked truck before helping set it on fire, while Price is accused of setting a police car on fire with a cigarette lighter. Both have no prior criminal record. Mobeen Mohammed, 33, of Surrey, is the oldest accused rioter so far, while a 17-year-old juvenile, also from Surrey, is the youngest. “We are very encouraged by the approval of these 61 charges and we will continue to work closely with the special prosecution team as even more charges are expected in the coming days and weeks,” said Insp. Les Yeo, who leads the Integrated Riot Investigation Team. The police reports on each suspected rioter are all over 500 pages long. VPD officials have called the night of mayhem the largest crime spree in B.C. and say several hundred suspects could ultimately be prosecuted.

B.C. DUI PENALTIES GO TOO FAR: JUDGE TOM FLETCHER (Black Press)
Police in B.C. won’t be imposing their toughest roadside penalties for impaired driving until they give accused drivers a way to appeal results of a failed breath test. Public Safety Minister Shirley Bond announced the change yesterday after a B.C. Supreme Court judge ruled that the most severe of B.C.’s new impaired driving penalties infringe people’s constitutional right to a fair trial. Ruling on a challenge to the new roadside penalties, Justice Jon Sigurdson said the increased roadside

penalties for blowing in the “warn” range of blood alcohol, from 0.05 to 0.08 per cent, are permissible. But drivers who who blow in the “fail” range above 0.08 should have a chance to challenge the decision if their vehicles are impounded for 30 days and they face thousands of dollars in administrative penalties. Bond said the court ruling means the B.C. government needs to amend its year-old impaired law to give drivers who exceed 0.08 on the roadside screening device a chance to appeal that reading. Until that is done, “the circumstances for those in the ‘fail’ range will revert to what was previously in place,” Bond said. “Police will have the option of determining whether or not a criminal charge is warranted, and in that case you could face criminal charges and a 90-day administrative driving prohibition.”

It’s still an “agreement in principle” that requires cabinet approval, but B.C. has reached a new 20-year deal for RCMP services on the day a deadline was set by Ottawa. Public Safety Minister Shirley Bond said yesterday the federal government has agreed to B.C.’s key demand, a contract management committee where B.C. and other provinces can have their say about new RCMP programs or costs. “The Union of B.C. Municipalities made it very clear that they no longer wanted to have costs passed on to them without the ability to have a say in what those costs are,” Bond said. “That is a major step forward and in my view redefines the relationship, which was certainly one of our objectives.” Bond added that the new deal will retain the ability for B.C. to give two years’ notice and withdraw, and require a review of the terms every five years. She declined to go into further specifics until the contract is approved by the provincial cabinet. There are 150 communities in B.C. served by the RCMP, making it the home of one third of all RCMP officers. That position led
B.C. to become the leader of the nine provinces and territories still negotiating for a policing contract. B.C. Conservative leader John Cummins promised this week that if he forms a government, he will commission an independent review of RCMP services to see if they still serve the province
adequately. Cummins said the RCMP management structure has become “inept and outdated,” and questioned how a federal police force can tackle international terrorism and also provide community policing in dozens of small B.C. communities.

POT QUESTION IS FEDERAL SAYS CHILLIWACK’S MAYOR CHILLIWACK PROGRESS (Black Press)
The former mayors of Vancouver may have joined forces to call for the end of marijuana prohibition, but don’t expect any such pronouncements from Chilliwack. Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz said her job as mayor is to look after her citizens’ health and safety, before wading into issues like pot decriminalization. The former Vancouver mayors came out on Nov. 23 saying B.C. should lead a call for an end to pot prohibition, and current Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, has joined the chorus of the former mayors. They argued it would help eradicate the gangland violence associated with the illegal drug trade, and create revenue through taxation. “From the city’s point of view, we want to concentrate on Health Canada and the medical marijuana predicament,” Gaetz said. It comes down to a question of jurisdiction. “The criminalization of marijuana is clearly the federal government’s responsibility. Mine is to look after my town,” she said. Gaetz said she is more concerned with “making sure the local housing stock is safe,” and no grow-rip thugs are rampaging through her community.

Clark said she told Ottawa the province is struggling to balance its budget – projected to have a $3 billion deficit this year – and is looking for any help it can get on repaying the money. She did not directly say B.C. was looking to repay less money, but her officials suggested they would prefer new payment terms over an extended period of time. The B.C. The federal government is putting a beleaguered northern Ontario native community under thirdparty management, acknowledging that conditions there are at a crisis level. John Duncan, the minister of aboriginal affairs and northern development, made the announcement in the Commons yesterday as the Conservatives came under fierce criticism for the state of emergency in Attawapiskat. He said an assessment has determined URGENT that “urgent health and safety issues HEALTH demand immediate action.” ISSUES As a result, the government has informed local leaders that the First Nation is being placed under third-party management, Duncan said. “I’ve also requested a comprehensive audit to identify how money has been spent and what oversight measures have been taken,” Duncan said. But opposition MPs accused the Conservatives of a double standard as they urged Prime Minister Stephen Harper to visit the remote community, as he has done with other communities in distress. “When the Red River floods, people show up. When Slave Lake burns, politicians showed up. Why are the people of Attawapiskat treated so differently? Why is it when a First Nations community is in distress,

The Harper Conservatives are being accused of being asleep at the legislative wheel after trying to introduce changes to their big crime bill that they rejected only a week ago. Liberal Justice critic Irwin Cotler has tried for years to pass legislation that would allow Canadian victims to sue state sponsors of terror. He made another attempt last week. The Conservatives rejected Cotler’s amendments, but once the committee work was over, they turned around and proposed virtually the same changes in the Commons.
DEATH BENEFIT DISCRIMINATION ALLEGED BY SOLDIERS’ FAMILIES OTTAWA (Canadian Press)
The families of four single soldiers killed in the Afghan war have now stepped forward to file discrimination complaints against Veterans Affairs Canada. They are challenging the payment of a $250,000 death benefit that is exclusive to married soldiers and excludes those in commonlaw relationships. this government’s response is contempt?” NDP MP Charlie Angus said. Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae said it’s the Conservative government that should be placed under “thirdparty management” for bungling the aboriginal file. “That’s where the problem lies,” Rae said, pointing his finger across the aisle at Conservative MPs. “There are dozens of Attawapiskats right across this country. It’s not the only community that is facing these conditions and these difficulties,” Rae said. “It’s the government that has to take responsibility for what’s happened and not simply continue to blame the victim,” he said. Rae noted that one of the first acts of the Conservatives was to scrap the $5 billion Kelowna Accord, a pact negotiated with aboriginal leaders and premiers to invest in education Interim NDP Leader Nycole Turmel, just back after visiting the community on Tuesday, urged Harper to pay his own visit and see for himself the “appalling” living conditions. Harper repeated his claim that Ottawa has invested heavily in the community, more than $90 million since 2006 when the Conservatives took office. However, officials with the aboriginal affairs department have been so far unable to account for how and when that funding was distributed to the community.

Brazil’s divorce rate hit a record high in 2010. The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics says 243,224 divorces were recorded last year in the nation with the highest number of Catholics. That comes out to 1.8 divorces per 1,000 residents. The rate was 1.2 divorces per 1,000 residents 10 years ago. Experts say the growing rate is due in part to a simplification of the requirements for granting a divorce. Since July 2010, couples no longer face a legally imposed waiting period. They can also formalize a consensual divorce at a notary public without going to court.

Iran currently has 18 diplomats in Britain, according to a list kept by Britain’s foreign ministry. Britain previously ordered Iran to remove its diplomats in 1989, when the two nations broke off ties over a fatwa, or religious edict, ordering Muslims to kill British author Salman Rushdie because his novel The Satanic Verses allegedly insulted Islam. Britain ordered Iran on Wednesday to remove all its diplomats from the U.K. within 48 hours following attacks on its embassy and a residential compound in Tehran – one of the most significant diplomatic retaliations against Iran since the 1979 U.S. embassy crisis. SUU KYI TO CONTEST MYANMAR BYELECTIONS YANGON, Myanmar (Associated Press)
Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi plans to contest upcoming byelections and is confident democracy will come to the country but said yesterday further reforms are needed before the U.S. lifts sanctions. Suu Kyi said she supported increased American engagement to encourage Myanmar to advance reforms that have seen it shift from five decades of direct military rule. The U.S. and other Western nations have applied tough economic and political sanctions over the past two decades to punish the previous military regime for its human rights abuses and suppression of democracy. “I haven’t changed Aung San Suu Kyi my mind on sanctions,” Suu Kyi told Associated Press Television News in Yangon. Suu Kyi stated she would run in upcoming byelections that follow a nationwide poll in 2010. Her National League for Democracy boycotted that vote but is now reregistering after regulations that would have prevented her running for parliament were changed. “I will certainly run for the elections when they take place,” Suu Kyi said. No date for that vote has been set. Her party won 1990 national elections but the result was not honoured by the military.

REAGAN SHOOTER HINCKLEY ASKS FOR MORE TIME OUTSIDE MENTAL HOSPITAL
WASHINGTON (Associated Press)
The man who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan is asking to spend more time outside a Washington mental hospital, but a government lawyer says John Hinckley’s request is premature and that he recently lied to cover up the fact he looked at books on Reagan and presidential assassinations. A jury found Hinckley was insane when he shot and wounded Reagan in 1981, but doctors say his mental illness has been in remission for years. Yesterday, a judge began hearing arguments that Hinckley should be allowed to visit his mother’s Virginia home for stretches of approximately three weeks and eventually transition to living outside the mental hospital full-time. “This man is not dangerous. The evidence shows he is not dangerous,” Hinckley’s lawyer, Barry Levine, said. Government lawyers oppose the plan for visits of 17 and 24 days, saying Hinckley continues to be deceptive and that he “is a man capable of great violence.” A judge has granted Hinckley increasing freedom from hospital in recent years. Most recently, he has been allowed to visit his mother’s home for 10-day stretches.

ADELE, BRUNO MARS, KATY PERRY, KANYE WEST GRAB GRAMMY NOMS TORONTO (Canadian Press)
Adele and Bruno Mars each nabbed nods in all three of the Grammys’ major categories as nominations were announced last night. The two singers will compete for record, song and album of the year at the Feb. 12 bash, which announced its nominations with a splashy prime-time special. For album of the year, Adele’s 21 and Mars’ Doo-Wops and Hooligans will compete with Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, and Rihanna’s Loud. Adele, the British crooner who took the charts by storm with her surprise hit 21, was expected to feature heavily in the 54th instalment of the Grammys.
More surprising were the three major nominations for Wisconsin indie-folk outďŹ t Bon Iver. The group, led by distinctive singer Justin Vernon, is up for song and record of the year as well as best new artist, a category that also features Nicki Minaj, the Band Perry, J. Cole and Skrillex. Performances from Lady Gaga bookended the show, and the electro-pop oddball had other reasons to celebrate – her nod for album of the year marks the third straight year she’s been recognized in the category. British folk band Mumford & Sons are also nominated for both song and record of the year, while other Grammy nominees include Katy Perry and Kanye West.

Renner, Oscar nominee for The Hurt Locker and The Town and soon to be seen in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, replaces Matt Damon as the lead in the popular spy franchise, due out Aug. 17. Rennner said The Bourne Legacy is based on the books by Robert Ludlum and later continued by Eric Van Lustbader that inspired the rest of the series. The screenplay is by Tony Gilroy, who penned the script for the three previous Bourne ďŹ lms. Gilroy also directs, replacing Paul Greengrass, who announced he was stepping back from doing more Bourne movies. Renner said he couldn’t say anything about the plot, except to reassure fans it’s true to the Bourne style. “Bourne fans who love that kind of movie will miss Matt, but we have an amazing cast and I hope the fans embrace us as much as they embraced Matt,â€? he said.

MINDY MCCREADY ORDERED TO RETURN SON BY THIS AFTERNOON
HEIDI KLUM TURNS RUNWAY FAME TO GROWING BRAND
TAMPA, Fla. (Associated Press)
Country singer Mindy McCready, who had been reported missing, spoke with Florida authorities yesterday and is aware of a court order to return her 5-year-old son by this afternoon, police said. Cape Coral Police Lt. Tony Sizemore said McCready and her son are not in the Lee County, Fla., area, and that she is “currently outside of the terms of her family court stipulation.â€? She knows that she is supposed to bring her son back to Lee County by 5 p.m. today, he said. “The million dollar question is whether she will comply,â€? said Sizemore. The state Department of Children and Families said a missing persons report was ďŹ led with Cape Coral police Tuesday night after McCready took her son Zander from her father’s home. McCready doesn’t have custody of her son – her mother does – and the singer was allowed to visit the boy at her father’s home, according to a department spokesman.
TORONTO (Canadian Press)
Heidi Klum may have hung up her Angel wings, but the career of the former Victoria’s Secret brand ambassador continues to take ight well beyond the catwalk. The supermodel has parlayed her fame away from the runway and magazine covers into a full-edged industry. In addition to serving as host of Project Runway, the entrepreneur has been linked to a roster of signature product lines from fashion to footwear. Klum paid a visit to Toronto this week in support of the fragrance Shine. But the mother of four and wife of singer Seal hasn’t settled on what she’d like to put the “Heidi Klumâ€? stamp on next. “I’m sure if I would sit down and really think about it, all the things I haven’t really done yet, I would have a long list because there are so many things I’m interested in doing,â€? said Klum. “But right now I’m focusing on designing my jewelry, I design clothes, I design sneakers. I still design maternity clothes, which I love because I was pregnant four times, and I really enjoyed it, and it’s such a beautiful silhouette to design for, and I love doing the perfume, too.â€?

On Tuesday, DCF discovered that McCready and the boy were not at her father’s home. DCF spokesman Terry Field told The Associated Press the agency

asked a Lee County judge for an emergency pickup order, and the judge ruled McCready must return the boy voluntarily or risk an arrest warrant. Meanwhile, McCready said on Facebook that she is not missing. “I have been ďŹ ghting the Florida court system to protect my son, and bring him home,â€? she posted, adding that she spoke with Cape Coral Police via Skype – something that the agency conďŹ rmed. The singer’s brother, Josh McCready, told The Associated Press in a private Facebook message that his sister was â€œďŹ ne.â€? “Mindy is ďŹ ne and so is Zander. There is nothing to worry about,â€? he wrote. Kat Atwood, McCready’s publicist, issued a statement yesterday saying McCready and her son are “safe, healthy and comfortable,â€? and denies that she has done anything wrong. The statement says that McCready has been awaiting a court order on whether she would be awarded custody of her son. “No Amber Alert has been issued; this is not a missing child case,â€? Atwood said.

Business. CENTRAL BANKS TEAM UP
9
Coming soon: austerity | Italy’s cabinet on Monday will approve a wide-ranging package of urgent debtreducing measures and long-term structural reforms to encourage economic growth.
OTTAWA (Canadian Press)
The Bank of Canada and five other central banks around the world say they’re working together to ease strains on the global financial system, hoping to stave off another credit crisis like the world faced three years ago. The moves yesterday by Canada’s central bank, along with the European Central Bank, the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of England and the central banks of Japan and Switzerland are aimed at making it cheaper for banks to get U.S. dollar liquidity when they need it. They are also taking steps to ensure banks can get ready money in any currency if market conditions warrant. As Europe’s debt crisis has been rapidly spreading, the global financial system is showing signs of entering another credit crunch like the one that followed the 2008 collapse of U.S. investment bank Lehman Brothers. The possibility that one or more European govern-
States and Europe. The statement said the central banks have agreed to reduce the cost of temporary dollar loans to banks – called liquidity swaps – by a half percentage point. The new, lower rate will be applied to all central bank operations starting on Monday. They are also taking steps to ensure banks can get ready money in any currency if market conditions warrant by establishing a temporary network of reciprocal swap lines. Fears of more financial turmoil in Europe have already left some European banks dependent on central bank loans to fund their daily operations. Other banks are wary of lending to them for fear of not getting paid back. Such constraints on interbank lending can hurt the wider economy by making less money available to lend to businesses.

CONCERNS RAISED ABOUT TMX-MAPLE MERGER TORONTO (Canadian Press)
Canada’s federal competition commissioner has “serious concerns” about a proposed takeover of the country’s largest securities market by the Maple Group but there’s an opportunity to find a resolution, TMX Group said yesterday. Those concerns are about competition in equities trading and clearing and settlement services in Canada – issues that have been raised previously by some of Canada’s smaller investment firms. Critics have said the plan to merge the CDS clearing house and the alternative Alpha trading system with the TMX Group could create a monopoly that favours the banks and insurance companies. The 13-member Maple Group includes some of Canada’s biggest pension managers, banks, investment houses and the country’s largest life insurance firm – all major users of securities markets.
ANNUAL GDP RISES 3.5% IN Q3, OUTPACES U.S. OTTAWA (Canadian Press)
Real gross domestic product grew at an annualized rate of 3.5 per cent in the third quarter after a second-quarter drop of 0.5. Statistics Canada notes real GDP in the United States grew two per cent over the same period. GDP advanced 0.9 per cent over the previous quarter as demand for exports increased. The agency reports consumer spending on goods and services rose 0.3 per cent in the third quarter, slightly below its second quarter gain of 0.5. Government expenditures on goods and services grew 0.2 per cent. Housing investment strengthened to 2.6 per cent, well above the second-quarter pace of 0.4. ADD YOUR

CFL | Marcel Bellefeuille is out as head coach in Hamilton. GM Bob O’Billovich says while Bellefeuille is leaving the organization in a better place, the move is necessary in order to win a Grey Cup.

CHAMPION LIONS SALUTE THE FANS VANCOUVER (Canadian Press)
The Grey Cup-champion B.C. Lions saluted their fans last night for helping them go from worst to first. A few thousand faithful Lions followers descended on B.C. Place Stadium to celebrate Sunday’s 34-23 home-field victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. “The fans gave us a tremendous amount of support,” said general manager and coach Wally Buono. “We want to thank you for that – because it was a magical ride.” B.C. became the first CFL club to win a title after starting the season 0-5. Finding themselves in a 1-6 funk in August, the Lions finished the regular season on a miraculous 10-1 run and posted two more wins in the playoffs. The light-hearted 50-minute celebration included video presentations and comments from players and general manager and coach Wally Buono as they crammed together on a midfield stage. Fans reserved their loudest cheers for the likes of middle linebacker Solomon Elimimian, who may
decide to pursue NFL options next year, defensive tackle Aaron Hunt, defensive end Brent Johnson, centre Angus Reid and receiver Geroy Simon, who was feted more than quarterback Travis Lulay, MVP of the Grey Cup and the CFL season. As Simon was about to carry the Grey Cup onto the field, Lulay and kicker Paul McCallum impersonated the Superman pose the receiver does after touchdowns. “We all love Geroy,” said Reid, who conducted much of the ceremony. “We just love Geroy. He’s been a star here forever.” Later, Lulay threw a pass to Simon on stage and the receiver repeated the gesture himself, drawing a loud cheer from the highlyanimated crowd. Young and old alike danced, juked and jived to songs like Don’t Stop Believing and chanted “Wally! Wally!” while giving the team a standing ovation. Led by legendary 93-year-old band leader Dal Richards, the crowd also belted out the club’s song Roar, You Lions, Roar! as players tried to join in, looking up at the stadium’s huge video screen for help with the lyrics as they rolled by. “The magic of B.C. Place is here tonight,” said Buono. Admission was free. The team provided hot dogs, potato chips and soft drinks at half-price. In keeping with the event’s family theme, no alcohol was served.
GREY CUP
LUCIC SCORES 2 AS BRUINS BEAT LEAFS TORONTO (Canadian Press)
After putting the finishing touches on a near-perfect month, the Boston Bruins are looking like Stanley Cup favourites once again. Milan Lucic scored twice and David Krejci added a goal and two assists last night as the Bruins beat the Toronto Maple BRUINS Leafs 6-3 to retake first place in the WIN Northeast Division. 6-3 It’s been a remarkable turnaround for the defending champions after a slow start to the year. Boston finished November with a 12-0-1 record, making it the Original Six franchise’s first month without a regulation loss since January 1969. Tim Thomas continues to lead the way and picked up his ninth straight victory with a 34-save performance against the Maple Leafs. Zdeno Chara, Benoit Pouliot and Brad Marchand had the other goals for Boston (15-7-1), which last lost in regulation on Oct. 29 in Montreal. Mikhail Grabovski, Joffrey Lupul and Matt Frattin replied for Toronto (14-9-2). The Leafs pushed the Bruins to their limit in the first of back-to-back meetings between teams hovering around the top of the Eastern Conference. They’ll go at it again in Boston on Saturday night. There was very little separating the teams. Pouliot put Boston ahead 4-2 early in the third period and Frattin responded less than three minutes later to get Toronto back within a goal. They wouldn’t bridge the gap. Lucic put it away with his second of the night at 15:21 before Marchand hit the empty net in the final minute.
HOLMSTROM PROPELS WINGS PAST LIGHTNING DETROIT (Associated Press)
Tomas Holmstrom’s power-play goal broke a tie early in the third period, and Pavel Datsyuk and Jonathan Ericsson each had a goal and an assist in the Detroit Red Wings’ 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. Darren Helm also scored for Detroit, which won its sixth straight. Jimmy Howard made 33 saves, including stopping Matt Gilroy on a short-handed breakaway with 4:11 left. Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos scored for Tampa Bay, and Dwayne Roloson stopped 31 shots. Holmstrom’s goal 4:22 into the third period gave Detroit a 3-2 lead. He deflected Nicklas Lidstrom’s tip pass out of the air, about shin high, past Roloson for his fourth goal. Helm added his third with 6:46 left. Stamkos tied it at 2-2 with 14 seconds left in the second period, firing in a one-timed shot from the bottom of the left circle for his 16th goal. St. Louis’ power-play goal 9:35 into the middle period put Tampa Bay on the board. He beat Howard from the slot for his seventh this season. Datsyuk opened the scoring 4:58 in when he put in a onetimed shot from the inside edge of the left circle for his seventh goal. Ericsson’s first of the year made it 2-0. He fired a shot past Roloson from the high slot with 8:56 left in the first.

fiscal austerity. Many economists say the nations that use the euro have little choice but to back proposals for much closer co-ordination of their spending and budget policies. “If the eurozone is to survive, there needs to be more fiscal union,” said Eswar Prasad, an economics professor at Cornell University in New York. Without a plan that the markets believe in, the eurozone faces the prospect of an unappetizing breakup, that could spark chaos around the global economy.

POLAND BURIES ITS LAST KNOWN BATTLE OF BRITAIN PILOT WARSAW, Poland (Associated Press)
Former Polish air force officer believed to be the country’s last surviving pilot from the Battle of Britain was buried yesterday in a state ceremony following decades in exile. Brig. Gen. Tadeusz Sawicz died Oct. 19 in Toronto at the age of 97. His remains – an urn with ashes– were brought to Warsaw for burial at the historic military Powazki cemetery. In attendance were Defence Ministry officials, Polish armed forces officers with army standards and troops from the RAF Queen’s Color Squadron. Deputy Defence Minister Czeslaw Mroczek said that Sawicz “wrote a beautiful page in the service of the motherland” and gave an example of “true patriotism.” At the start of the war in 1939, Sawicz fought in Poland’s air defence against the invading German Nazis. At one point, he flew under German fire to carry orders to troops defending Warsaw. When the city’s defence collapsed on Sept. 17, he joined Polish pilots fighting in France. After the surrender of Paris in July he made his way – with tens of thousands of Polish airmen, soldiers and sailors – to Britain, making up the largest foreign military force in the country.

IN MEMORIAM
IN LOVING MEMORY OF ERNIE ROOKE Dec. 1, 2008 God knew that he was suffering That the hills were hard to climb So He closed his weary eyelids And whispered “Peace be thine” Away in the beautiful hills of God, By the valley of rest so fair, Some day, we know not when, We will meet our loved one there.

Giesbrecht Clarence Wilfred Jan. 19, 1920 - Nov. 26, 2011 Clarence went home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 26, 2011. He will be missed here on earth by his devoted and loving wife of 67 years, Martha; his treasured children, Vernon (Jayne) of Ohio, Judy (Dennis) of Victoria, Howard (Sherr) of London, Ontario, Nancy (Chris) of Chilliwack; 9 beloved grandchildren, 18 treasured great grandchildren; one brother Harry of Saskatchewan and countless other family and friends from around the world who were blessed to know him. His legacy is one of faithfulness to and trust in Jesus. He served the Lord as Business Manager in Nigeria with the Sudan Interior Mission from 1950 to 1965. Following their return to Canada he worked in the insurance business and as town administrator in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan. Clarence and Martha retired to Abbotsford in 1986. It was from Abbotsford that their love of traveling the world continued their meeting with other missionaries, their work with the Gideons, and his playing golf or going bowling. He touched the lives of many people with his quiet unassuming generosity. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 02, 2011 from 7-9:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford.
