elcome to the first issue of Abiva Leads. With the fast-paced advent of technological breakthroughs in communication and transferring of current news around an organization in the speed of light, we wonder what kind of communication we can offer to initiate and motivate employees for a positive and fulfilling environment that will lead to a great camaraderie within the organization. Thus, we shift a little to create something that will kinder a new way of communication here in our company.

They say newsletters are an old fashioned way of disseminating information in an organization because of the innovations of technology has to offer. But we are keeping up with the changing times, and I am beyond happy and honored to handle Abiva Leads, the first digital newsletter that will honk your e-mails every six months. I recently bumped into an inspirational website on how to appreciate and look at our work in a different perspective. Let me share a few of the inspiring words that somehow changed the way I see things now: “What we need is a new understanding of work. One that fits better in the time and will to the changing needs of the people”. And for the first issue of Abiva Leads, we are featuring the latest changes in our organization—the successful 78th anniversary we had, the induction of new APHIEA Union’s Officers, and helpful tips on how to balance career and family while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But more than an informative organizational newsletter, my wish for Abiva Leads is to launch a new way of communication for all employees who would like to share their stories that will inspire each and every one of us. Enjoy the pages of Abiva Leads. This is for you!

vents are everywhere in the workplace, but nothing beats our very own. The team building last May 2014 garnered almost a hundred employees at Camp Benjamin, Alfonso Cavite. This fun, challenging, and memorable event gave us time to pull back, relax, celebrate what has been accomplished, and look at each other as fellow humans bound together by a common purpose. Other than that, it allowed for greater interaction between people separated by functional boundaries. This interaction, then, gave us the opportunity to see our colleagues from a different perspective, breaking down what may have been hidden barriers to open friendship.

t’s the beginning of the rainy season again, just five months ago our country was devastated by the deadliest storm in history. To help us brace ourselves on the coming typhoons that will hit our country this year, our HR department conducted a Disaster Preparedness Training last June 7, 2014, which was facilitated by Mr. Ronald Bongalonta from LIFT Training Management and Consultancy.

Act quickly and protect yourselves from glass windows and free standing furnitures during an earthquake.
The guys demonstrates the ‘triangle of life’ tactic, it is intended to replace the traditional “drop, cover, and hold on” tactic. This tactic recommends that, at the onset of a major earthquake, building occupants should seek shelter near solid items that will provide a protective space.

Establish a minute exercise
routine everyday
Brisk Walking.
They say walking is the best exercise and the least expensive kind of workout. There are a million ways to discover the wonders of attaining a walking workout routine. It can be done on your way to work or even just a walk around in your village with your kids and spouse. However, with brisk walking, it entails a little bit of a challenge that will change your usual routines.
Meditation Yoga. Nope, this is not the expensive yoga class you have to sign up for. Yoga can be beneficial without pushing your savings too much. But this is the type of yoga that can help you maintain emotional stability and leaves you a healthy mind for a healthy body. Your 15-minute yoga meditation exercise can fit into different forms like in praying, writing, dancing or just plain 15-minute meditation while doing an Indian sit position on a sturdy surface and slowly clearing out your mind for full serenity and inner peace. It may sound impossible, I know, but the benefits of this meditation exercise will help you as well on how to face the daily challenges of life with a calm and confident attitude especially at work.

stablishing a healthy lifestyle is today’s everyone’s trend. Believe it or not, all the marketing efforts done by different health advocate companies had been effectively adopted by all types of consumers who still want to live a long life. Join the trend, because having a healthy lifestyle is a must life-saver of all time! With endless work and full time family responsibilities in our hands, you might be asking the same question as mine: How in the world can I still have time for daily workout? I’ve collated all the possible ways, tips, and ideas of establishing a daily workout routine, even just for 15 minutes – a 15-minute’s worth of workout that will boost all the necessary elements in our body to help us function well for the rest of the day and even for an entire week!
First things first, find your pace. You can start on the first 5 minutes by walking 1 mph (2,112 steps) then gradually increase your pace until your body has adjusted to the new routine, if you’re still new to the workout. And if you’re good to go, you can keep up with the required 15 minutes on a 3mph (6, 336 steps) and you’ll reap the benefits of having a healthy heart and blood circulation in no time.
Crunches. This is the most accessible yet challenging exercise. There’s a lot of crunching position to choose from like reverse, regular, crunch twist, bicycle, vertical leg and long arm crunch. Try a position that you are most comfortable of, and don’t forget to do it right to avoid muscle pains and to get the real benefits of crunching, which is to exercise your tummy and achieve flat abs for the next summer season!
Running. The running trend in the Philippines is becoming more popular nowadays. A lot of different organization from different industries organize fun runs as part of their corporate social responsibilty or sometimes to just simply promote ways on how to establish a healthy lifestyle. To start your running routine, don’t push yourself for the first 10 minutes. It’s also about finding your pace, start a walk-run-walk takes in the beginning. Condition your body first and gradually increase your speed. Don’t forget to find the right gears and wear comfortable running clothes and shoes that will help you motivate to stick to the routine.
There are lots of creative 15-minute exercises to choose from, but what’s important is to find the right exercise routine that you can keep up with and commit in a long term basis. A healthy body is not built overnight, just like anything else in life. It entails a lot of hard work, discipline, and a change in lifestyle. Abiva Leads Volume 1., Issue No. 1

Bulletin Board WALANG TAWIRAN NAKAKAMATAY! The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has begun its Metro-wide crackdown on jaywalkers.
R
ecently, the newly renovated pedestrian overpass at G. Araneta and Quezon Avenue crossing got the attention of the majority. This is because “men-in-red” or personnel of the Anti-Jaywalking Unit (and they wear really bright red shirts) “arrested” citizens who dared not follow the rules. Now these citizens were not literally arrested, but were actually accompanied
to the MMDA vehicle to sit down and listen to a “lecture” about jaywalking. Hopefully, none of us experienced that same opprobrious result for not obeying the authorities. The penalty for jaywalking is P200. Please take note of this.
