General Information
Production Requirements
Frequency Discounts: ABI offers increasing discounts for 3-, 6- and 10-time insertions. Ads do not have to run consecutively, but must be the same size. To receive a frequency discount, the advertiser must complete an advertising contract for all the insertions that qualify them for the frequency discount. Advertisers will be short-rated if they do not use the number of insertions on which their rate was based during the year.
Mechanics: Ad artwork must be submitted as a high-resolution (300 dpi) EPS or PDF file. Do not send Word, WordPerfect or PowerPoint files for ad artwork; instead, convert these into high-resolution PDF files. If sending a Quark or InDesign file, please include all high resolution images and fonts for Macintosh; otherwise, please convert to high-resolution PDF or EPS files. All original images used within the ad artwork must be high-resolution. Ads must be submitted at the exact contracted size; ABI will not re-size ads. Ads will run exactly as they are sent. However, ABI will alert the advertiser if there is a problem with the file.
Insertion Orders: Insertion orders must be submitted for each advertisement, even if the advertiser is on contract. This gives the advertiser the flexibility to provide new artwork, request special positioning and monitor billing procedures. Insertion orders must be submitted by each issue’s ad space deadline. Tombstones: ABI accepts “tombstone” announcements regarding new clients, business accomplishments, anniversaries, office openings, new employees, etc. To run a tombstone, please submit an insertion order by the appropriate ad space deadline. Position Requests: Position guarantees are available for an additional 10 percent. Requests may be in relation to a regular feature or in relation to other advertisements. Placement on a particular page is not guaranteed. Advertisers not requesting special positioning will be placed in the best possible position. Pre-printed Inserts: Pre-printed inserts can be inserted into the ABI Journal, but must be presented to ABI in advance for approval. The insertion rate is based on acceptable-weight materials. Heavy-weight or multiple-page insertions will be considered, but the rate may be slightly higher. Pre-payment is required. Inserts should be no more than 4 pages front and back (8 sides). Cancellations: All cancellations must be received in writing no later than the issue space closing date to avoid incurring a charge. Payment: Payment should be included with the insertion order. Please send it to: ABI Staff Accountant, 44 Canal Center Plaza, Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314.
Color: Advertisements are printed in black unless otherwise contracted. Full-page, 4-color process ads will be accepted for an additional $600 for a fullpage ad, $400 per ad for 1/2 page or 1/3 page, and $200 for a half-column ad. Trim Size: 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Full-page ads should be undersized by 1/4 inch on all sides and will be centered within the page. Bleeds: Accepted for an additional 5 percent. (Please note trim size.) Ad background must extend 1/4 inch on all sides, and crop marks must be included to indicate positioning. Body of ad must be centered to fit 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Alterations: Advertisers will be billed for any production work required, plus 10 percent. * Current membership as of Aug. 1, 2008.

Interactive Journal
Bonus to Print Advertisers: Link to Your Web Site via the Online Interactive Journal!
Each month, the current issue of the ABI Journal is displayed on ABI’s Web site under Publications in an interactive format, allowing viewers to more efficiently search, navigate and turn the pages online. As an added benefit to print advertisers, all Journal advertisements, which are displayed on the interactive online version of the Journal, can be linked directly to a Web
page designated by each print advertiser. There is no additional charge for the added benefit of a link to the advertiser’s designated Web page on each current interactive issue; each print advertiser simply provides its chosen Web URL on its monthly insertion order. (Back issues of the ABI Journal are archived on ABI’s Web site, but only the current version is interactive.)
Interactive Journal readers can click on ads that go directly to an advertiser’s designated Web page.
For pricing options and specifications on making your interactive Journal advertisement animated, please contact ABI at (703) 739-0800 for a quote.
“Advertising in the Journal is an important part of DSI’s marketing efforts to help ensure that DSI’s message and capabilities are exposed to the broad reach of the Journal’s readership and ABI members.” – Bradley Sharp, Senior Vice President, Development Specialists, Inc.
