Iceland: Restructuring a Nation
In 2008, the financial crisis that hit the world’s markets caused the collapse of three major banks in Iceland (Glitnir, Kaupthing and Landsbanki) and the near collapse of the entire Icelandic economy. ABOUT ABI
The American Bankruptcy Institute is the nation’s largest association of bankruptcy professionals, with nearly 12,600 members. ABI members represent both debtors and creditors in business and consumer cases, and more than 75 percent of U.S. bankruptcy judges are ABI members. HOTEL
The Savoy Hotel is a hotel located on the Strand, in the City of Westminster in central London. Built by impresario Richard D’Oyly Carte, the hotel opened on 6 August 1889 and was the first in the Savoy group of hotels and restaurants owned by Carte’s family for over a century. The hotel is now managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. It has been called “London’s most famous hotel” and remains one of London’s most prestigious and opulent hotels, with 268 rooms and panoramic views of the River Thames across Savoy Place and the Victoria Embankment, part of the Thames Embankment. FINANCIAL HARDSHIP STATEMENT
ABI acknowledges that in some instances there will be persons who need to attend an educational seminar for CLE credit who are not able to pay full registration fees. ABI will handle such instances on a case-by-case basis and will work with the individual on alternative solutions. For persons who cannot meet the full registration rate, ABI will offer a reduced rate based on what the individual can reasonably afford to cover the cost of meals and materials. For persons unable to pay a reduced rate, ABI may allow the individual to work at the registration area for a few hours during attendee check-in, or assist in conference set up. ABI also has reduced rates for government employees, professors, law clerks and students.
