Be the best dressed guest at your next wedding party, without outshining the bride. DRESSING TIPS

1 Never wear white at a wedding, you don't want to compete with the bride 2 For a day time wedding, wear a dress, preferably a bright, printed pattern. 3 For an evening event, go glitzy: black can work, but dare to be different 4 Wear a hat only for a formal wedding otherwise you will feel over-dressed

Eye opener It-Palette The It-palette from Sephora contains eight eyeshadows that can be mixed and matched to create an endless array of looks. It contains four natural eyeshadow shades and four top coats with shimmering effects. The four eyeshadow shades can be used alone to enhance the eyes or applied as a base under the top coats.

beauty Box As the season kicks into high gear, ABODE gets first dibs on the latest beauty products you’ll be coveting this year.

Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum Infusion is an intensely hydrating eye serum that delivers an immediate surge of moisturization, leaving the eye area feeling soothed and refreshed, creating the optimal environment for eye area skin to repair and stay young and healthy. Potent enough to be used as a standalone eye product, this unique lightweight serum texture can also be layered with an Estée Lauder eye creme for additional targeted benefits. Recommended for all skin types. Dermatologist-tested. Opthamologisttested.

Body and Bath The Asprey bath and body range features their signature scent, Purple Water. beauty Annalise's new make-up bag addition Aerin Spring Style Collection When a cosmetics collection is designed by the granddaughter of a world-renowned beauty powerhouse, it’s going to be something special; and Aerin Lauder’s much anticipated second collection lives up to the highest of expectations. A pick-me-up in a palette, the AERIN Spring Style Collection is a carefully edited line of soft pastel must-haves in pretty shades to create fresh, glowing looks that exude the signature elegant, understated beauty that has so quickly become the brand’s synonymous style.

in side Top Beauty Picks for SS13 from Annalise Quest, General Merchandise Manager of Beauty at Harrods. Favourite anti-ageing sciencebreakthrough product IOMA Youth Booster The new IOMA Youth Booster really is a world first in the techno-beauty category, and I’m very excited for our Harrods customers to be able to discover its phenomenal results this season. This new wonder-product uses incredibly advanced analysis to read the skin’s hydration levels to ensure the correct amount of powerful moisturising cream is applied; thus proving its own efficacy with continued use. I was lucky enough to try the IOMA Youth Booster last Autumn and since then it’s been my skincare essential; the regenerating formula super-charges skin to restore hydration, reduce lines and improve firmness.

New season must-have fragrance Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon Rarely does the craftsmanship of a fragrance brand’s flacons match that of its scents. Not so with Cartier, who are relaunching Le Baiser du Dragon exclusively in our Harrods Perfumery from February. The iconic flacon is first and foremost a stunning work of art; a timeless Art Deco design with a "yin and yang" concept combining warm curvaceous lines with geometric rigor. The fragrance itself is intense and exotic; a fusion of warm, woody notes harmonized with bitter almond, floral notes and citruses. The perfect accessory for Spring, Le Baiser du Dragon is an invisible Cartier adornment that I can’t wait to purchase this Spring.

THE ULTIMATE WEDDING

Photography: Andrea CECCARELLI Hair: David Martinez@Blue Brush Hair Studio Make up: Alexandra Rouger@Blue Brush Hair Studio MODEL: Yazenia FROM Trinity model

Need some hair inspiration for your big day? We teamed up with the Hair stylist guru, David Martinez, to give us some ideas. "Classical with a twist" was my inspiration about this bridal hair style. I wanted to get back to a very Parisian "haute coiffure" style. The idea was to give a retro touch, a glimpse of nostalgia but with a graphic modernity. I have tried to keep it trendy with a straight shiny texture and a futuristic shape. In three words, a Romantic 60s Futuristic bride! Technically it is quite a difficult style. To make it perfectly clean and balanced you need to work the hair from the root. Back combing, getting the right volume, twisting in a symmetrical way.

BACK

Make-up wise, Alexandra worked her magic, by creating a natural but fresh look.

David added head jewelry from Pronovias to finish off his creation. You can play with these accessories, place them all over the shape for a fairy look.

s haidresser The Fashionista'

David Martinez was born in Nimes, in the south of France. His fascination for hair began during his childhood. When he was 14, he was modeling for a hairdressing school. Waiting in a corridor at the end of the bridal hairstyle exam, he fell in love with a particular hair style that passed him by. Even then, he knew that this was his calling. After 15 years in the business, Martinez

has built up a trusted relationship with important figures in the international fashion industry. From international fashion magazines (Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Vanity Fair) to big fashion shows (Dior, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Chloe). David has always worked at the highest technical level. His magical scissors and his infallible eye have made him a renowned hair expert.

blue brush HAIR studio brings a touch of glamorous Parisian know-how to Doha. ABODE meets the wonderful team behind this newly opened salon This month ABODE had the pleasure to work with Qatar's most fashionable hair & make-up team. David Martinez and Alexandra Rouger are a match made in heaven. Everything becomes possible in their golden hands. David decided to make the move to the Middle East from Paris to open his own salon and bring his expertise from years and years of working on the most glamorous runway shows, from Chloe to Prada.

Blue Brush Studio, located in the Hilton Doha, offers VIP service, a Hair Clinic, a Colour Factory, a Beauty Studio, but it is much more than a Hairdresser studio: It is an inspirational place where art, fashion trends and inspiration meet beauty. So don’t miss out on the chance to be styled by one of Paris’ best fashion hairdressers and his international team. For more information visit www.bluebrushhairstudio.com.

AlexandrA RoUger was also born in the south from France. Attracted by visual art, she spends her time in workshops, fascinated by the mixture of the colours. She was inspired to follow her career path by a video of a show by John Galliano seeing that he used make up as a means of expression. She decided to leave the south of France for Paris to pursue her dreams. Here, she perfected her skills, and began to work with the press and designers. She believes that the right choice of colour increases wellbeing and self-confidence, and that the right make-up radiates inner beauty.

It’s a Wrap

saray spa I chose to try the best body wraps available in Qatar at the most discerning spas: Saray Spa at the Renaissance Doha, Jaula Spa at the Grand Hyatt, and finally the Remède Spa at St. Regis Doha. What To Expect From A Body Wrap? Traditionally a body wrap begins with skin exfoliation with a dry skin brush or a salt scrub followed by a trip to the stream room to open the skin’s pores before the scrub. After the scrub, your body will be slathered in mud and wrapped – often in plastic (like a mummy). You will find yourself lying down on warm sheets or towels for this type of treatment. You are then wrapped in the first layer of plastic, and then hot towels or a special “wrap” body bag will be skillfully tightened around you. Once you are tightly wrapped, comfy and warm, you will stay as I described for

approximately 20 minutes. During this downtime, the therapist will massage your scalp, apply product to your face, do both or leave you alone. (I enjoy it when they do both the scalp massage and apply product to your face) When 20 minutes pass, you’re unwrapped and the body mask is taken off. You are then assisted to get up slowly, and safely marched to a shower. After you dry off, you might return to the table to have the therapist apply lotion or oil to moisturize your skin or she will tell you to do it yourself and give you the product before going to the shower. Your hair will be a mess, so either give yourself time to wash and blow dry it or bring a hat or scarf to cover your hair as you exit the spa. If you don’t like the thought of being encased in mud and placed in a body

remÈde spa bag, this may not be the right treatment for you. Tips: • Drink plenty of water before and after the wrap. • Try to eat a detox cleansing diet for two days before you book your session to get the most out of it. • You can expect to lose a little weight after the wrap as the detox properties help with fluid retention. • Make sure you advise your therapist if you have any allergies before she begins to apply the salt scrub or mud. Remember both stay on for longer than usual. • When are ready to leave, try to go home and rest and drink plenty of fluids. Remember a body wrap is not a massage. If you want a massage after the wrap you need to book both treatments.

Detox wrap: The Algae Eminence. This treatment envelopes you in a mineral spirulina algae body mask, after being exfoliated with sea salt body polish. The scrub is applied cold and the mud wrap, warm. After the body mask is showered off product is removed, a Jasmine Body balm is applied. During the treatment a delicious face cream and scalp massage are included. Time: 90 minutes to 2 hours Tip: Bring a hat or scarf for your hair as you will need to cover it when you are done with the scalp rub. Comment: “The spa has its very own grand entrance which makes you feel like a movie star. My bottom line is this is a first-rate spa with everything - a beautiful facility in a spectacular setting, terrific therapists, and lots of great spa services.”

CLASSY HEN PARTY AT THE SPA Hen Dos don’t have to be tacky these days. Avoid the embarrassment of a fancy dress party and opt instead for a more stylish and sophisticated option, by booking yourself and your best friends into one of the top hotels in the GCC, the One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai, for a full day of pampering.

Residence&Spa One&On

ly Royal Mirage Dubai

Dubai is a great destination for fun nights out and a shopping spree, so why not combine these activities with a great relaxing day? In a thriving world-class city renowned for its soaring skyscrapers, One&Only Royal Mirage recalls the romance of Old Arabia, with 65 acres of lush green lawns and immaculate flower beds set along a kilometre of private beachfront. It also boasts a freestanding “temple of well-being” set amidst palm trees and water fountains…so what better place to get pampered away with your girlfriends before your big day? Various treatments are on offer in this well-being temple - the choice is all yours. A great treatment to be enjoyed by a group is the traditional Hammam, better known to westerners as the Oriental steam bath. In the days of the Sultans, brides-to-be would pamper themselves for hours in the various chambers of the Hammam in the company of close friends, away from the pressures outside - so why not bring this tradition back? An oasis of steam and an expert masseur will attend to your body's every need, rejuvenating your skin and invigorating tired muscles. The treatment begins with a vigorous exfoliation on your back and moving on to the face, neck, shoulders, chest, stomach, hips, legs and feet-leaving you (and your friends) with a brand new skin. After some relaxation time, your pampering session can be followed by one of England’s finest traditions: a spectacular High Afternoon Tea. Indulge in jam and cream scones, fresh pastries, finger sandwiches and succulent cakes overlooking the lush tropical garden, while gossiping and chatting away. Doesn’t this sound like the perfect hen party to you?

Guerlain, Alfardan Spa Why Women Should Lift Weights

Despite study after study supporting the benefits of strength training, many women still opt for cardio over weight training. Maybe they’re worried about “bulking up.” Women have seen a few too many beefy men grunting it out in the weight room and fear that if they pick up a dumbbell they’ll suddenly start to resemble a linebacker, too.

22 percent of their total muscle. What’s even more upsetting is that over time, the muscle void is often filled with fat. One pound of fat takes up 18 percent more space than one pound of muscle, so even if the number on the scale goes down, your pants size might go up. The best way to stay tightly packed? Keep strength training!

Lifting weights has some surprising perks that you can’t get from cardio alone. Research shows that just two strength-training sessions a week can help you burn more fat, sculpt lean muscles, feel more energized, and so much more. If you are a woman, here are ten reasons why you need to take strength training seriously.

3- You Will Be Physically Stronger. Increasing your strength will make you far less dependent upon others for assistance in daily living. Chores will be easier, lifting kids, groceries and laundry will no longer push you to the max. If your maximum strength is increased, daily tasks and routine exercise will be far less likely to cause injury. Research studies conclude that even moderate weight training can increase a woman's strength by 30 to 50 percent. Research also shows that women can develop their strength at the same rate as men.

1- Your Metabolism Will Soar. As women age, they naturally lose muscle mass. This causes your metabolism to slow, which means you could start building a spare tyre by the time you reach your 30s. When you do weight-bearing exercises, you start revving up your metabolism—and it keeps burning for many hours after your workout. So by lifting weights to add more muscle mass, you’ll boost your metabolism and turn your body into a more efficient fat-burning machine.

4- You Will Gain Strength Without Bulk. Researchers also found that unlike men, women typically don't gain size from strength training, because compared

to men, women have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy. You will, however, develop muscle tone and definition. This is a bonus. 5- You Decrease Your Risk Of Osteoporosis. Research has found that weight training can increase spinal bone mineral density (and enhance bone modeling) by 13 percent in six months. This, coupled with an adequate amount of dietary calcium, can be a women's best defense against osteoporosis. 6- You’ll Reduce Your Risk Of Heart Disease And Diabetes.Curbing agerelated muscle loss isn’t just good for your looks, it can protect your heart and help ward off type 2 diabetes, too. "Muscle helps remove glucose and triglycerides from the bloodstream, which reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, as well as hardening of the arteries.

2- You’ll Fit Into Your Skinny Jeans. Research shows that between the ages of 30 and 70, women lose an average of

Dr knows best child safety issues Dr. Rafael Consunji Photography Jessie Palanca

About Dr. Consunji: Dr. Consunji initially trained at the Philippine General Hospital and then completed a Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States. He then pursued further training at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in order to learn the art and science of preventing injuries from happening. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Public Health and a Certificate in Injury Prevention and Control. To sum it all up, he has been doing injury prevention and clinical acute care/trauma/critical care surgery over the past 12 years. Rafael J. Consunji MD, MPH Consultant & Injury Prevention Director Trauma Surgery Section, Department of Surgery Hamad General Hospital Hamad Medical Corporation Doha, Qatar 3050 Office: +974-4439-6842

ABODE interviews Dr. Rafael Consunji, Injury Prevention Director in the Trauma Section, Department of Surgery at Hamad General Hospital. He gives us an essential guide to keeping our children safer. What percentage of accidents in Qatar involve children, particularly young children? A: One in ten patients admitted to the trauma section here in Hamad are children [0 to 18 years old]. The leading causes differ by age-group and location so the advice for parents must be tailored to the ages of their children. What programs are you implementing to make Qatar a safer place? A: Our leading priorities for child safety are three fold. These are all very different. In fact, we need to address child passenger safety, which means the child should be restrained in an age-appropriate seat that is properly attached to the vehicle. Most people

make the mistake of holding the child on their lap in the front seat. In our experience at Hamad, all children who died in a car crash were riding unrestrained in the front seat of a car. The second issue that needs to be addressed is drowning prevention or water safety. All children in the water, whether it be by the pool or in the bath should be closely supervised by an adult. A young child can drown in as little as 2-3 inches of water and can have irreversible brain damage in 4-6 minutes of submersion. The other area of concern is home safety. This area is quite extensive as it involves protecting the children against hazards in and around the home, such as electrical outlets, drawers, large electrical

appliances. Many parents take for granted that their children are safest at home but more than 66% of trauma admissions in young children are for home injuries. The most common injuries at home are falls and burns but falling objects at home, such as TVs are also causing injuries to young children. Under the umbrella of the Kulluna health promotion campaign of the HITC, HMC and ConocoPhilipps, we have implemented 2 safety fairs. one on water and home safety, and car seat checks to address each of these priority areas. We are conducting research to gather better evidence to guide the prioritization and formulation of subsequent safety programs for the children in Qatar.

Safety Advice. Please place all chidren in an appropriate car seat in the back seat.

5 tips to keep your children safer

How do you see your role in Qatar with regards to Safety? A: I chose to come to Qatar because there is a growing need and a challenge, that is being addressed by enlightened leadership and vision to create a safer environment for everyone here. I see my role as an advocate for injury prevention, building a case and advising policy makers to implement the best programs to facilitate a culture of safety throughout this great country.

1 Adult supervision is necessary for most activities, this means instructing all caregivers (including grandparents, sibling and nannies) in safe behaviours and practices. 2 Change your child's environment so he/she can still play and explore without being exposed to undue higher risks. For example, putting, a thick carpet, rug or rubber matting will make a child's play area safer than leaving the hard bare floor, even in the event of a fall. 3 Put your child in an age and size appropriate child restraint system EACH AND EVERY TIME HE/SHE RIDES A VEHICLE, under no circumstances should a child that is less than 12 years of age (or shorter that 1.45m) be riding in the front seat of a vehicle. 4 Buy and install at least one smoke detector in your home; this will wake you up or alert you in the event of a home fire 5 Make sure your child wears a helmet for every trip on a bicycle, skateboard, rollerblades, or any motorized cycle. These helmets prevent over 95% of traumatic brain injuries that can happen while using these vehicles/devices.

Home Injury Statistics in Qatar Out of 176 child home injury admissions, mortality was 2.3 % with 75% of deaths from falls and 25% from falling objects. All deaths were in the 3 to 5 year age group. Falls was the leading mechanism of injury [68%] and most of the children were 0-4 years [66%]. Falling objects [FO] were the second leading cause of home injuries [11.4%]. Only 12% of victims were older children, ages 10-18. For infants, falls and burns were the leading mechanism, for 1-4 years, falls and FO, for 5-9, falls and bicycle, and 10-14 years, falls. Intentional injuries were common for 10-18 year olds [19%].

Safety Advice. Please use a child helmet for all outdoor activities

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Rosenthal meets Versace They have issued a limited edition of special pieces: 20 plates featuring 20 decorative designs that represent a journey through time, space, cultures and myths, telling the story of this extraordinary collaboration between these two great brands. This famous partnership, which has seen the birth of successive collections of the Finest Versace tableware, began back in 1992 under the creative guidance of Gianni Versace. His intention at that time was to develop the idea of a Versace lifestyle and his work with Rosenthal was central to this. “Versace is a lifestyle and it should be an all-embracing decision for those who choose to adopt it," he said. Gianni Versace’s original vision is still evident in the current designs of the Rosenthal meets Versace collections, which today are overseen by his successor as Creative Director at Versace, his sister Donatella. In the same way that she has evolved the Versace fashion collections, Donatella Versace has also reinterpreted many of the most iconic Rosenthal meets Versace patterns and motifs, making them truly appealing to a 21st century customer. Available at: Tanagra, Villaggio Mall, Doha- VIP Area.

Colour Scope By Moona Masri Whitice

Dewey Colour Consultant And Spokesperson for Forum Design

“Don’t be afraid to use accent pieces in bold colours to add style to a room”

Pastel interiors are all the rage. These sherbet colour tones are usually soft, elegant and attractive and make your home feel light and airy. Not just for the kid’s bedroom, these pastel colour palettes look beautiful and sophisticated in the living room, family room and kitchen. Give them a try.

Ideas: Create a Soft Pastel Palette Borrow from the sumptuous colour palette of the famous Paris pastry house, Ladurée. You will not be alone. The 2006 Marie Antoinette movie was inspired by the pastel shades of macaroons. If you’re undecided which pastel shade to embrace, choose a riot of shades in complementary or contrasting colours. Their faded sherbet tones will keep them looking unified and sophisticated.

Highlight one colour at a time Add the pastel colour to a neutral décor to add a touch of whimsy. Cover your Sofa with a Pink Slipover. Paint one bedroom ceiling sky blue. Hang a pale-yellow shower curtain in an all-white bathroom. And, if you like what you see, consider adding another pastel touch or two spread throughout the room.

Play It Safe with Pastels If you like the idea of pastels but worry about making it look too lighthearted and infant like, try pale green, buttery yellow or salmon pink, these will give a neutral space a lift. Painting the walls with light and soft pastel colours will make the space look bigger.

Choose complementary shades or contrasting colours in blue, pink or soft green.

Putting Together the

Newlywed Bed

By Suzy Q Photography Horchow, Tiffany Eastman, Plural Design

Coverlet, duvet, quilt, comforter - what’s the difference, you may be asking yourself. Putting together a great bed ensemble can be overwhelming and a little confusing, especially for newlyweds who are setting up home together for the first time. Use this guide to get all the pieces you need, what to use them for, and how!

2.

What is your bedroom personality? Not sure if your bedroom decorating personality is modern, romantic, classic or French Country? An individual's bedroom is a reflection of one's personality, so let's focus on the finishing touches to see what you like best.

1.

Modern

3.

1. For the lover of avant-garde style, modern bedroom furniture and sleek accessories add personality and character to everyday sleeping.

Romantic

2. A truly romantic bedroom is filled with personal luxuries, frilly sheets and pillows, lace and soft lighting.

Classic

3. A classic bedroom has a classic and glamorous look, with a feminine touch to it but not an overly frilly feel.

French Country

4. A throw back to all things country but luxurious, think of pastoral scenes and tulle.

4. Cherish yesterday-Dream tomorrow-Live today side by side, hand in hand, heart to heart. Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.

Cover basics which cover is which? Learn the basics of putting together a beautiful bed for great comfort and style!

Quilt

This traditional piece of bedding is made of three layers of fibre that are all stitched together: a woven cloth top, a layer of batting, and a woven back. You can distinguish them easily since they are generally made of many pieces of cloth, but are sometimes found sewn with only a single piece of fabric on the top. There are many different designs, colour combinations, and themes you can choose from, so don’t limit yourself!

Coverlet

The coverlet is a non-reversible and lightweight bedspread that is used as the finishing touch to your bed. Here you can use this decorative layer to get creative with bold colours, patterns, and textures. The coverlet is placed over thicker bedspreads and sometimes has a thin layer of batting inside.

Bedspread

Comforters, quilts, and coverlets are usually pre-filled bed covers that are placed as the top layer on a bed. For Spring it’s best to choose a lighter weight bedspread and use only a sheet underneath. You can also layer your bedspreads for decorative purposes, or fold up a nice throw and place it vertically across the end of your bed.

Comforter

A layer in your bed set that is usually thick and sometimes quilted to secure the filling of polyester batting, down feathers, wool, or silk. They are usually intended to sit on top of your sheets as a bed spread and work well when creating a layered look. For the warmer months it is best to choose a comforter that doesn’t have much loft (thickness) of filling for less insulation.

You can use throws on a bed or on your sofa.

Throws

Duvet Cover

Duvet and Cover

Probably the most important part of your bed set, a duvet and cover can be used alone to reduce the complexity of making your bed. Although some still use them with a sheet underneath, you don’t need to. Duvets are essentially a soft bag filled with down, feathers, or a synthetic substitute. They are inserted into a removable cover which can easily be washed and cleaned. Duvets are available in a number of fillers and standard sizes to fit the different duvet covers and bed models. Choose one for winter and one for summer so that your bed is acclimated year round. Duvet Filler If you are allergic to down, make sure you buy a hypoallergenic brand.

Elegant Room Diffusers that will lace every room in the home with an aromatic mood

VERY Room Fragrances. French Fragrance, Italian Design offer something for everyone. Choose from classic fragrances to fresh citrus tones, not only do their products come in beautiful glass bottles, framed in wood or white lacquer, but the quality of the fragrance is one that really lingers and will transport your senses to another place - think Paris in Spring time or summer in the South of France. Other fragrances like Rosee du Matin, wonderfully fresh and perfect for your dressing room, or for something slightly more sensual, try Ecume de Mer. Voyageur d’Orient has floral notes which would work well in an entrance hall to create that perfect first impression.

Luxury Linens that will create the softest environment to ensure a perfect night’s sleep.

Frette Luxury Linens. There are so many beautiful pieces within the Frette Couture collection for 2013 to choose from. The whimsical, feminine styles with intricate lace edging are what really caught my eye. For pure white elegance, you could try the Macramé Pizzo range with pretty macramé lace detail, or for a more floral look the Portofino Paraggi Pizzo in soft green and white or beige and white has a delicate pattern within the lace to add a feeling of romance to the bedroom.

For a little added comfort and another layer of texture, add a warm Tigullio throw in lavender, silver-grey, lemon yellow or soft green. Frette luxury bed linens are regularly sourced for our interior design projects and are available from Harrods.

Perfectly appointed French Crystal to dress any table with elegance Saint Louis French

Crystal Authentic crystal pieces from this famous French crystal house are available in all sorts of delightful shapes and sizes ranging from tiny facetted perfume bottles and atomizer to elegant champagne flutes and wine goblets and larger decorative items for the home. I particularly like the crystal tea glass and saucer with gold filigree motif. The quality of craftsmanship is exquisite and would make the most wonderful gift.

MONEY MANAGEMENT Plan

only for the type of wedding you can afford. Accept what you’ve got to spend and always shop with this in mind. Create your perfect wedding, not a Hollywood A- lister’s dream day.

2

BE ORGANISED It’s

the key to successful and stress free wedding planning. Keep all your paperwork together in one place and carry a bridal notebook with you at all times to jot down ideas as and when you have them.

3

6

5

PUSH THE BOUNDARIES

HAPPY GUESTS MAKE HAPPY WEDDINGS

There are no hard and fast rules to obey when planning a wedding. Traditions have evolved, so incorporating ideas you like at the same time as respecting your own culture and heritage is to be encouraged (and right on-trend!).

Concentrate on the guest experience and do not skimp on great food and fabulous flowers (which will be remembered for being bad or good so make both great!).

7

DELEGATE Behind every blooming bride and gorgeous groom is a fabulous and efficient team, so delegate what you can to friends and family who have skills in areas you need help with.

Fabulous florals This year, structured, modern floral designs are back, and there’s a switch from pastels to deep, rich colours.

PRIORITISE Don’t waste

time getting carried away with the detail of your day until you have put in place the key elements: where and when you’ll be married, who you will invite and how much you can spend on the celebration.

4

RESPECT & COMPROMISE Create

your day together with your intended and your families and be sensitive to the desires and expectations of one another. Respect the point of view of others who are invested in the day (financially or otherwise) and listen, even if you eventually reject their ideas. Be prepared to negotiate and compromise.

8

HIRING & FIRING Do not hire anyone or anything until you have seen or sampled their wares. Get every detail in writing and ensure taxes and service are included. Before signing a contract ask: “is this your best price?”

9

KEEP COOL, CALM & COLLECTED

Especially with your nearest and dearest. Don’t alienate anyone you’ll need later on. (I’m thinking mother-in-law here!).

10

WEDDING FREE ZONES Have wedding

free zones in your homes and wedding free evenings once a week with your intended when you do not discuss the wedding. Then you’ll remember why you are doing this!

Foods for Healthy Skin by dIET Delights NUTRITION CENTER

From well-marketed creams to invasive treatments, some people spend a fortune on skin care products and cosmetic procedures. But really, the secret of beautiful skin is on our plates… Studies have shown that environmental factors, such as sun exposure, pollution, and smoking may jeopardize skin health. However, the good news is that a varied diet, rich in vitamins and minerals and antioxidants can help reverse this harm.

Top 10 foods for a better skin: Spinach Be creative! Put spinach in your pies, salads, stews. Spinach is a rich source of vitamin A, a vitamin that has been shown to treat and prevent acne, cellulite and stretch marks. Spinach is also rich in folic acid (B vitamin) responsible for the prevention of DNA damage, which in turn protects skin from wrinkles and allows for skin regeneration. Tomatoes Raw, cooked, canned, dried…any way you like it. Lycopene, found in tomatoes, helps eliminate skinageing free radicals caused by ultraviolet rays. In other words, it protects your skin from sun damage.

Almonds Snack on a handful of almonds. An excellent source of Vitamin E, almonds can help protect against age spots and damage caused by UV light. Almonds are also rich in linoleic acid (an essential fat for our body) which has been shown to decrease dryness of skin associated with ageing. Green Tea Last but not least…Savour some green tea! Green tea is rich in polyphenols which have been shown to reduce UV-light induced skin damage.

Tuna Nutritious tuna whether fresh, frozen or in a can Tuna is rich in proteins, zinc, selenium, omega 3 fatty acids and niacin (B3). Some of these components exhibit powerful antioxidant properties protecting the skin from damage, while others also have strong anti-inflammatory properties.

food Flaxseeds Add flaxseeds to you salads and baked goods. Flaxseeds are rich sources of omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Daily consumption of flaxseeds has been shown to inhibit skin irritation and redness. Kiwi A fresh and charming fruit rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C has been shown to play a role in skin elasticity (collagen production), protection from UV light. It also has many anti-inflammatory properties that support wound healing and prevent scarring. Dark Chocolate and cocoa powder Bust a myth! Chocolate is not bad for your skin.

Skin Beauty Salad Ingredients:

• 230g cooked chickpeas (or use 1 tin) • 2 big handfuls of baby spinach leaves • 1/2 avocado, diced • 1 small handful of almonds soaked in water overnight • 1 zucchini sliced into 1/2 cm disks • olive oil, for brushing • 2 tablespoons tahin • 1/2 lemon, juiced • water • pinch of salt • 1 small garlic clove • freshly ground black pepper.

Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix in chickpeas. Place the baby spinach leaves in serving bowls, top with tahini and chickpeas, diced avocado and the zucchini slices. Sprinkle with soaked almonds (or seeds of choice). Enjoy!

Flavonols found in dark chocolate have been shown to improve skin structure and help protect against sun damage. Avocadoes In a salad, as a dip or simply plain! A rich source of vitamin E, avocadoes are delicious and provide healthy essential fats. Vitamin E has been shown to improve skin health by enhancing skin hydration and decreasing the risk of skin cancer and age spots. Sweet Potatoes Go sweet on potatoes are an excellent source of Vitamin C. A recent study has shown that increased vitamin C intake lowers the risk of a wrinkled appearance.

VENETIAN ROMANCE at The BAUERs Hotel

Bar Canale Terrace

Winding canals, ancient bridges and an historic hotel are the perfect location for a romantic Italian honeymoon Venice is known as the most romantic city in the world, and for good reason. The serenity, the sense of history and the unusual surroundings Venice offers are simply unique. Its romantic atmosphere suits a special occasion, such as a honeymoon. Located in the heart of Venice, the historic BAUERs L’Hotel is the perfect

choice for a special getaway. The main entrance is on Campo San Moisè, just a two-minute walk from St Mark’s Square and the city’s most elegant shops. Since its opening in 1880 L’Hotel has always been at the centre of Venetian life thanks to its warm hospitality, impeccable service, romantic atmosphere and fresh young attitude. The unique design with stained glass of 1940s, chandeliers and marbles mixed with precious Art Décor furniture and contemporary sculptures, makes this five star hotel a prime destination for couples looking for romance.

Check-in in one of the luxurious and spacious bedrooms, all retaining a nostalgic charm, with beautiful early ’40–‘50 furnishings, accompanied by enticing views and enjoy your authentic Venetian experience. Candle lit dinners in the in-house gourmet restaurant De Pisis are a must. Chef Hiraki Masakazu, serves the freshest finds and enhances their distinct flavours with Mediterranean essences and a dash of Asian influence, true to his Japanese roots. After dinner the BBar is great to entertain you with a wide range of live music (it is actually the one and only place in town offering live DJ sets every weekend), so make the most of it.

And of course, you can’t leave Venice without a gondola ride. You can be picked up from the hotel (the staff can easily organise this for you) and while being serenaded with traditional Italian operatic music, you can enjoy the fantastic and unique landscape of this enchanting city. This honeymoon is nothing short of romance.

How do a terrace above the clouds, called SETTIMO CIELO (Seventh Heaven), and a terrace above the waters, GRAND CANAL TERRACE sound as a setting for your special day? If these don’t sound enough, the property also offers a separate venue, opposite the main hotel: a 16th century convent designed by Andrea Palladio, the master architect of the renaissance, set within the largest garden in town. Located in front of St. Mark’s Square on Giudecca island, the BAUER PALLADIO HOTEL & SPA is the ideal choice for celebrating your wedding. Just five minutes from the historical city centre (complimentary shuttles are on offer), the PALLADIO also contains within its grounds its own Chapel, the Santa Maria della Presentazione Church, which can host ceremonial blessings. The adjoining gardens are an ideal venue for symbolic rites and banquets. Alternatively, you can opt for the Sala Palladio, a large banquet space on the ground floor of the building, able to accommodate up to 120 people for a seated dinner. For larger weddings or for those seeking privacy, it is also possible to privatize the entire property. Palladio offers also a prestigious spa with world class wellness treatments and massage therapies, perfect for pre-wedding pampering and relaxation on the special day. Doesn’t this sound like the perfect venue to you?

CENOTES: Hidden Jewels

of the Yucatan Peninsula by Francesca Cruz

The Mayan apocalypse came and went without incident on December 21, 2012 – so to celebrate that we’re still alive, what better place to venture to than the heart of this ancient civilization, the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico? VALLADOLID YUCATAN The plane descends into Cancun and about an hour’s drive later, you arrive at Valladolid Yucatan. The drive to this historic town from Cancun consists of an unpaved one-way road with a scenic view of wild tropical foliage and the occasional (as in every 10 miles) rustic roadside pop-up stand selling, ice cream (the coconut and avocado flavours are incredible) and tropical fruit doused in chilli, creating a surreal explosion of confusing flavours— the fruit, being ripe and sweet, and the knock-out unexpected punch of the hot & spicy red powder. For those readers not familiar with Yucatan, it includes parts of Mexico,

and neighbouring countries Belize and Guatemala. Cradled by the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, it is 700 miles of coastland, along with vast jungle reserve. It’s populated by a culture just as rich as its many spices - Mayans, Mestizos and Mullatos. To the North you’ll find the climate to be mostly hot and dry, while the Southern sector is cool and tropical. This is the region of Mexico with the most convergence of archeological ruins, thick in ancient history. The seventh modern wonder of the world Chichén Itzá is found here, along with Xcalak, and the pyramids of Calakmul, Dzibilchaltun in Merida, Uxmal, and the grandeur of Mayapan. But to these parts we venture not to delve into the mythology of the archeological treasures found here, but to discover another incredible sight– Cenotes, an aquifer sinkhole forged by mother nature from the collapse of limestone bedrock in the form of caves that connect to make subterranean lakes.

Although you may also find cenotes in Cuba and even Australia, Mexico has the largest concentration of them in the world, and they are situated between Quintana Roo and the Yucatan Peninsula. The Yucatan Peninsula has over 3000 aquifers, all underground fresh water caverns of porous rock with twist and turns that for the novice diver can be quite treacherous; and although there are thousands of these cenotes only about half have been documented. The Mayans believed these wells led to the underworld, and immersing yourself in them was a form of purification. ZACI CENOTE Picturesque Spanish colonialized city Valladolid is home to our first stop, the Zaci Cenote. Its cobblestone streets with dainty store fronts decorated with colourful paper machete banners welcome visitors and invite them to relax. From here, the Zaci Cenote is but a 10-minute drive on a rural road. A

limestone building with thatched roof displaying arty souvenirs is the only sign that you’ve arrived at the aquifer. This is mother nature in all its glory! Native greenery embraces this vast stone and fresh water grotto of deep cobalt blue. Many that travel to Zaci take the opportunity to go diving in the cavern in the hope of spotting an incredibly rare black fish without eyes that is native to this area, and goes by the name of the Lob fish. XKEKÉN CENOTE From Zaci we move onto the next cenote, which is about a 20-minute drive away - Xkekén, in the town of Dzitnup. While

the entrance for Zaci appears to cater more to tourists, Xkekén is a bit more hidden away. In contrast to the first well, where you walk up winding rock steps to a small precipice that looks down onto the sinkhole, in the case of Xkekén you take steps down into what initially appears to be a cold dark dungeon, until you come upon the sight. Let me repeat that for emphasis: The sight. And my heavens, what a sight it is. It will take your breath away. Once you walk down via a cramped rock enclosed pathway to what feels like the end of the earth, you arrive at the grotto. Entering this spacious subterranean area illuminated by strategically placed pink and baby

blue lights, you will witness the most impressive mother-nature-made oculi at the top of the cave, which shines a spotlight of bursting sunshine onto the cool water below, creating a cascade of what appears to be flecks of gold dust. This place needs to be experienced to really capture its magnitude. I will now try the Jedi Mind Trick on you, and this is for your own good: you must visit cenotes on your next trip. You won't regret it.

Discover Luxury By Jorge Granda Photography by The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa

ABODE travels to Bahrain for a weekend getaway at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa, the perfect location for a luxurious five-star honeymoon or romantic break.

The Elegance of a set table at Nirvana's Restaurant

I’ve been hearing for years from friends how amazing Bahrain is, so I decided it was time to catch a plane and find out for myself. It’s a short flight from Doha to Bahrain, around 30 mins or less. Despite the short distance, however, the vast difference between the two countries is amazing. Bahrain has a tropical flavour; it feels like a holiday destination. In terms of construction, the capital city of Manama is still far from the beautiful skylines of Doha, but the city has its very own special charm. Several highways and bridges help the city to look modern and contemporary. The traffic is almost non-existent and Bahrainis are a warm and welcoming people. It is obvious that its residents feel proud to live in this beautiful island in the Gulf Region. The country also has a rich history which I discovered during the weekend. UNWIND IN LUXURY The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa is

one of the most popular destinations for locals and tourists alike, mainly because of its great variety of restaurants and lounges and also thanks to the ultrapopular Trader Vic’s located inside the premises. The Ritz is luxurious, from the décor to the architecture, to the rooms and all outlets. I checked into a deluxe room that it is just dreamy. The room has a breath-taking sea view that’s unfortunately it’s a bit overshadowed by the construction taking place in the pool area (construction finalises in June), however I could still see the crystal-clear ocean and part of the city’s skyline. The rooms are surely designed for individuals with class who expect nothing but the best. The beds are comfortable and spacious; it is evident that attention to detail is made at every corner. There is a huge flat-screen TV on the wall, and a small walk-in closet. The bathroom has a large tub and a smart-glass shower and it is beautifully designed.I It is the type of bathroom I would love to have in my own house.

DINE IN STYLE After relaxing for a while and unpacking, I went downstairs to Primavera, an Italian Restaurant for dinner. I was greeted by the manager who kindly escorted me to my table. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in dark and light elements that set the atmosphere for an elegant dinner. The menu features authentic Italian dishes bursting with flavour, including risottos, homemade pasta and fresh seafood entrees. The air is scented with fresh breads while lunch and dinner are complemented by the astonishing views over the garden and lagoon. After I finished dinner I was advised to visit Trader Vic’s, which is one of the trendiest bars in town. Trader Vic’s is massive and crowded. It is a great place to spend a night-out with friends. The next day I was invited to have lunch with Claudia Hardt, the Marketing Director of the hotel. We went to The Ritz Gourmet Lounge. The lounge quickly became my favourite restaurant in

About The Authors Nathalie Parra and Caroline Carpentier Medeis Al Khaleej Ltd

Last month Medeis Al Khaleej, a strategic communications and event management service company, released its new book “QATAR SUCCESS STORIES” under the patronage of Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Businessmen Association. Both the Qatari Businessmen and Businesswomen Associations were partners of the event, and the book boasted the support of QBA and QBWA, as well as Qatar Petroleum. ABODE was very pleased to attend the event and meet with Caroline Carpentier and Nathalie Parra, executive directors and publishers of the book. “QATAR SUCCESS STORIES was created because although the entire world has its eyes on Qatar, foreign delegations visiting the country often miss out on important information about the global vision His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani has built

up for his country”, says Caroline. “This vision is backed up by inspiring men and women - leaders in both the governmental and business world - who have grasped Qatar’s tremendous potential and are playing a key part in making Qatar an international business hub. QATAR SUCCESS STORIES is a tribute to some of the major institutions and to remarkable decision-makers, whose vision and dynamism are making a vital contribution to Qatar’s National Vision 2030” she added. Key local businesses highlighted in the book include AHB by Hassan Bilal, Alfardan Group and Exxon Qatar to name a few. The book can be ordered through Medeis Al Khaleej’s website and the publishers are planning to issue a revised edition in 2015.

Both with a background in business administration, Caroline and Nathalie started their careers in the Regional Administration of Provence Alpes Côtes d’Azur, one as communication and international relations manager, the other as international events manager. After several years in public service, they gained a great deal of professional experience in sales and marketing, events and public relations, building up a strong expertise in the communication field. In 2002, after a mission in Saudi Arabia, Caroline created Medeis to provide public relation services to institutions and companies participating in international events. In 2008, she moved to Qatar and accepted a 2 year contract as a diplomat for the French Embassy, as counsellor for cooperation and culture. At this time, Nathalie joined Medeis as associate partner and executive director. Today, Caroline works between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, while Nathalie is based in France. Both travel around the world to lead their teams and carry out their work based on their clients’ requests.

Forging Ahead BY Nitya Shukla Photography Jessie Palanca

As the representative of the world’s fourth largest democracy, His Excellency, Deddy Saiful Hadi, the Ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar, is forging a dynamic path towards solidifying the relationship between two countries. 102

ABODE April--.indd 102

3/27/13 10:17 AM

people Deddy Saiful Hadi believes that there are many common factors which bind the two countries together.

Has your perception of Qatar changed during your tenure? A: Actually, I first visited Qatar in 1997, while I was head of the economics department at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait. However, in 2012, I was greeted by a different Qatar, one that was starting to come alive even on a very early chilly morning. I’m now amazed with Qatar’s growth; in particular, with the advance developments in infrastructure and supra-structures fields. Qatar has done so by the proper utilization of its natural resources and prioritizing the prosperity of its people.

How do you view the cultural ties between the two nations? A: Indonesia is home to the world’s largest Muslim population. This common factor provides a strong foundation for the relationship between the two countries.

What common factors bind Qatar and Indonesia together? A: Both countries respect each other and provide support on issues of their common concern, or for

candidacies for certain positions in international organizations.

Embassy, the Indonesian Diaspora and The Ministry of Tourism.

The two countries have an active and prominent foreign policy.

Any other important projects on the horizon? A: Well recently, during a meeting

What are some of the areas where both countries may benefit from one another? A: In education, I hope more Indonesian students will study in Qatar and they are granted scholarships by the Qatar Foundation. In return, I welcome Qatari (and expatriate) students to choose to study at our universities. I also hope to realize an exchange program (for students and professors) with universities under the auspices of Hamad Bin Khalifa University and Qatar University as well.

What about tourism and the promotion of the Indonesian arts & culture? A: Tourism is a sector where I aim to improve bilateral cooperation with Qatar. We have tailored tourism programs in the areas of marine/ historical/nature/adventure and of course shopping. Qatar Airways has direct flights to Jakarta and Bali. Which is why, from the time of my arrival in Qatar 2012, we have held a variety of Indonesian arts and cultural performances here, initiated by our

with the Minister of Public Policy & Urban Planning of Qatar, an idea was proposed by the Ministry to have an exchange or (lending) of exotic animals between the two countries. I intend to discuss this with the related authority in Indonesia so that one might get the chance to admire the ancient species of Komodo dragons (found only in Indonesia) right here in Qatar! All of this is expected to introduce Indonesia to Qatar community, which I hope will eventually increase the interest of Qatar’s residents to travel to Indonesia.

What are your favourite places and activities that you enjoy in Qatar? A: My favourite places include Souq Waqif, the Corniche, Sealine Beach, the Katara Cultural Village and The Pearl-Qatar, as I like open spaces which have great Arabic food and a good cup of coffee. In the past, I’ve really enjoyed the atmosphere of a desert camp where one can just sit and relax around a bonfire.

QATAR's Rising

by axel breuer, founder of voodoo productions

A monthly insight into emerging Qatari talent

O

utside snow was falling, glazing the street leading to the Viktualienmarkt, the ancient farmers’ market in the heart of Munich. Inside, four people were looking at me in disbelief. “I thought they were not even allowed to drive. And now you are telling me they maintain aeroplanes?”

I can understand why this seems so unbelievable. We were holding a meeting to prepare a television commercial for a Qatari client. Everybody was curious about the country, starting with questions I had heard many times before: Where is Qatar? How does it look? How are the people?

I took 5 minutes to explain the basic facts about the country – and I then I talked for 30 minutes about my favourite subject: The women of Qatar. Because whatever economical and statistical data you might throw at me about Qatar being the fastest growing and thriving country, the story of the women of Qatar is the most interesting. This story has to be told, over and over again, because the world does not know it yet. Let us start earlier. I am sitting in a tower in West Bay across the table from a Qatari lady in the early twenties. She is part of the regular staff of Ooredoo. I am opening with some general questions, asking what she plans to do in her life. She shoots

back immediately: “I want to change this company – and the country.” No blink. Usually when you ask employees what they are planning in their lives, they tell me about a trip to Bali or buying a house. This girl wants to change the country. The next one shows me a video of her bungeejumping. The next one talks about her video productions and her remix tapes she produces as a DJ. I am totally amazed. Does anybody know about these women? About their drive, their ambitions, their plans? In the meantime I have met female fashion designers, athletes, graphic designers, businesswomen. Of course, ambitious women exist in all parts of the world – and people in

STARS

Europe would usually comment that it is so much easier for them to play with family money. They could not be more wrong. The women of Qatar make an amazing effort - they live in many different worlds and ages at the same time. It might be easy for a woman in Germany to make her way as an entrepreneur. But would she manage to do that while she is living in the year 2013 and – let’s say the year 1470 at the same time? It might be an easier decision to become a designer for extravagant fashion when you live and grow up in Paris and be surrounded by people who are constantly pushing the boundaries, than it is when you are part of a family with 3,000 relatives and a mother who was not allowed to drive when you were born. It is easier to be born in California when you tell your parents you want to start an internet business. How do you explain that to your grandfather who was living in a tent for a part of his life?

Are these revolutionaries who want to completely abdicate their roots? Not at all. Every one of them told me that they want to bring their traditions and their personal development together. I talked to women who told me about their engineering inventions, while at the same time providing passionate recounts of their last Hajj. I talked to girls who have an amazing freedom of mind – but also a strong foot in their traditions and values. What we can observe here is not just the coming of age of a generation of female Qataris, it is the coming of age of Qatari women. Is it easy? Certainly not, they would tell me. And only some go into details. They are trying to harmonize the process of personal development with family traditions and rules – and of course they argue that some traditions need to change. I sense struggles, discussions – and maybe sometimes the story is not as glorious as it sounds here. But all

this is part of a very healthy process. And when I look at these women I can clearly see that this is a success story. I will write about these women in the coming months. I will present some Qatari women on their path to fulfil small and big dreams. I will write about a woman who plans to be among the first female board members in this country, whilst being a single housewife with a child. I will write about the woman who chose to be an aircraft mechanic. I will write about a woman who knows about Paris and Milan and New York and has chosen to remain with her tribe in the desert. I will write about their wishes, their ways, their wits, their fortunes and misfortunes. I am preparing a film project about these women – made by themselves, because I think the world needs to hear about what is happening here.

A: No, I have been in the Middle East for the last 9 years and have moved from the UAE to Qatar.

How did you start your career as a hotelier? A: While studying we had to do 6 month internships, we used to gain knowledge on the various departments of the hotel and finally settled on F&B where my passion lies. So I started off as a waiter in a busy Café in Geneva.

The brand is relatively new in the country, what are your plans to strengthen your presence here? A: We are planning on a media launch shortly to announce the arrival and opening of the brand in Qatar. Over the past year we have been actively marketing the property directly within the local market and through social media channels as well. We are constantly fine tuning the product to suit the local requirements and to be an excellent and unique hotel in its category. We are associated with Ahmed Hassan

for peace and quiet I sometimes go to Katara or drive down towards Mesaieed. As I enjoy Gastronomy, there are several places in Doha that I frequently go to. Some of my favourite cuisines are Japanese, Korean and Persian.

Do you have any advice for someone who is keen to be a part of this industry? A: Quite a lot of the newcomers get into

the industry to become a celebrated chef or are attracted by the polite staff in their perfectly starched uniforms and the shimmer of the well-polished cutlery. What they do not see is the effort that goes into this presentation and the hard work it takes to keep it up and excel. You need to have the passion to serve and assist other and a lot of perseverance and patience as well. Expectations vary in this line of work, and if one is not patient or cannot persevere one cannot excel.

I love what I do

Fragrance is very personal to every woman

His accomplishments include Estee Lauder Pure White Linen Light Breeze, Outspoken by Fergie, Sean John I Am King, and an impressive eighteen fragrances for Bond No. 9. Here, he talks to ABODE about his new fragrance…

What is your new scent and what was your main inspiration for this fragrance? A: It is Guess Girl. I was inspired by the women of St. Tropez, Brigitte Bardot and iconic Guess Girls, past and present.

What makes Guess Girl different from the brand’s existing perfumes, i.e. Guess Seductive, Seductive I’m Yours? What makes it unique to the Guess brand? A: Guess Girl is an addictive floral fruity fragrance with many facets. It is colourful and sparkling, and ultra feminine.

The Guess Girl ingredients form the perfect recipe for a delicious cocktail. What impressions do you think the woman wearing Guess Girl will leave on other people? A: This is about the girl that walks in a

The Fragrance of Success A self-made success, Laurent Le Guernec’s passion for perfume is palpable. His love for the work of fragrance creation manifests itself in the enthusiasm he brings to each and every project. crowded party and will draw all eyes onto her with the fragrance signature she will exude. It’s a scent that will mesmerize during any encounter.

Do you have any tips for women when it comes to picking the right fragrance for specific occasions? For example, selecting a perfume for an evening event vs. an everyday scent? A: A fragrance for the evening is more daring, provocative, sometimes indulging even, with a darker side and/or dressier feel. That special occasion and the excitement of getting dressed is perfectly complemented with a more textured feel for your evening fragrance of choice. The ingredients are richer, deeper and resonate for a longer and more sensual trail. A daytime fragrance such as Guess Girl can be equally versatile to feel playful at any moment.

auto review

CITROËN DS4:

A bold style statement

If you aren’t scared to attract attention, the latest model from the French car maker is the car for you. The DS4 combines desirable couple style, family hatch practicality and premium cabin quality all together. Not bad for this sleek crossover between a sporty and family car. Its modern and good looking design makes it look like a two-door from the outside, but it actually boasts slightly raised, unadorned rear doors, which create a unique and sculptural silhouette, whilst facilitating access to the 3 rear seats, a rare feature for sporty cars. On top of this clever design, the DS4 boasts endless features: cruise control, an electronic brake force distribution and emergency braking aid, which provides optimal vehicle control even in the most difficult driving conditions. On top of these it also boasts direct petrol injection, a turbocharger and the engine combines strong performance with low fuel consumption and limited CO2 emissions.

The interiors are simply outstanding too, with stitched leather seats (with heated and massage options too), a large panoramic windscreena multifunction steering wheel, and a great airconditioning system. Driving a DS4 is a great experience. It’s easy to drive and very comfortable for the driver and passengers. Its road holding is impressive too, thanks to its aerodynamic silhouette, which gives you the impression that you have the wheels at your fingertips all the time. Citroën has definitely proved that this car is on the right track.
