Cacela Velha is a village located on a sandstone elevation in front of the Ria Formosa and the sea, from where you can see one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the eastern Algarve. For many, the most beautiful area of the Ria Formosa, admirably conserves its charm and peace.

From the beautiful walled town of Cacelaa-Velha, built on a fossil cliff about a million years old, you can admire the Ria Formosa and the barrier island where the maritime beach is located

The village of Cacela Velha is part of the eastern route of the Portuguese Way to Santiago

It was a crossing point for Greek and Phoenician navigators, and according to some authors it was Cunistorgis, the ancient capital of the Cuneos. The Romans enlarged it and the Arabs gave it prestige

In 713, Cacela came under Muslim rule during the campaigns of Abdalazize ibn Muça in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo

The Algarve coast was under the control of Yemeni and Syrian Arab clans, with Cacela being dominated by Arabs from the Banu Darrâj group.

Cacela was a relatively important town in the cora (district) of Ossónoba (Faro) Its name would be Hisn-Kastala, Qastallat Dararsh, Cacetalate or Cacila (meadow or cattle pasture), hence the current name.

It was defended by a castle dating from the 9th-10th century, from the time of the caliphate, and would extend outside the walled precinct, presenting a maritimeagricultural nature.

In this period of the Caliph lived the most famous poet of Cacela, Ibn Darraj AlQastalli, born in the year 347 of the Hegira (958) and died in 1030

Peninsula of Cacela

The peninsula of Cacela is a dune cord that is located at the eastern end of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, whose isthmus is next to Praia da Manta Rota, and which until 2010 ended at Barra do Lacém; then this coastal cordon had two beaches: Praia de Cacela Velha and Praia da Fábrica.

Due to the opening of a new bar that year, Cacela Velha beach is currently located at the western end of the peninsula, while Fábrica beach occupies a sandy islet to the south of the village that gives it its name

By separating the Ria Formosa from the sea, the peninsula protects this lagoon formation and all its natural values against the onslaught of the ocean. The entire peninsula consists of a sandy dune system covered by endemic vegetation that protects it from natural erosion

Cacela Velha Beach

The beach of Cacela or Cacela Velha beach, also known as Praia da Fábrica is a beach located at the west end of the old Peninsula of Cacela, south of the historic village of Cacela Velha

It is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park It is characterized by its large extension, its warm and calm waters during the summer period and the beauty of its landscapes

Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção

The current church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção was built at the beginning of the century XVI replacing another more remote from the medieval period – the primitive Church of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires.

Built in the century. X, in a period of Islamic rule, the fortress (or Hisn) of Cacela had the dual function of protecting the population and sheltering a small military garrison, having played an important role in guarding and defending the Algarve coast.

Portinho da Arrábida is a small place belonging to the parish of São Lourenço, in the municipality and district of Setúbal, in Portugal. It is best known for the beach adjacent to the town. It is located in the Serra da Arrábida in the heart of the Arrábida Natural Park, which surrounds it to the north.

Portinho da Arrábida is a small place belonging to the parish of São Lourenço, in the municipality and district of Setúbal, in Portugal It is best known for the beach adjacent to the town. It is located in the Serra da Arrábida in the heart of the Arrábida Natural Park, which surrounds it to the north It is west of Setúbal (about 13 kilometers) and east of Sesimbra (about 21 kilometers), having, to the south, the Atlantic Ocean, near the mouth of the river Sado

Points of interest

Despite its small size, Portinho da Arrábida has five places of interest: the Oceanographic Museum, Pedra da Anicha, Praia do Creiro, Creiro Archaeological Station and Portinho da Arrábida beach

Portinho da Arrábida Beach

Portinho da Arrábida beach is a small beach located near the small village of Portinho da Arrábida, in the municipality of Setúbal, in Portugal.

It is inserted in the Arrábida Natural Park and located at the foot of the Serra da Arrábida between the beach of Alpertuche (to the west) and the beaches of Creiro[1], Coelhos and Galápos (to the east)

It is a rocky beach, being more sandy as you walk east (towards Setúbal). It consists of a bay with calm and transparent waters, great for diving. To the east, the sand widens, always accompanied by the green slopes of the Arrábida mountain range. On the west side the restaurants are located

The seabed is a natural reserve, and underwater fishing is prohibited because the seabed is also considered a natural reserve.

In 2010 Portinho da Arrábida beach was considered one of the "Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal" in the Beaches and Cliffs category

Comporta beach has white sand and a blue sea, giving it a heavenly appearance.

Comporta is part of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, providing it with the necessary conditions for the development of the more than 200 species of birds that exist there.

COMPORTA

Comporta is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Alcácer do Sal, with an area of 150 54 km² Its population density is 8.4 inhab/km².

The parish is limited to the north by the estuary of the river Sado and to the west by the Troia peninsula, from which it is separated by the Ribeira da Comporta

Beach

Comporta is famous for its high quality beaches and mild climate during the summer

Comporta beach has white sand and a blue sea, giving it a heavenly appearance. The wide sandy beach, the car park and good access - via a dirt road that departs from the EN 261, before reaching Herdade da Comporta - in a north-south directionmakes this beach one of the most popular and popular in the region.

For a long time, it was the place chosen by people from the interior of Alentejo to go to baths.

Today, due to the Lisbon-Madrid highway, it is the Spaniards who have made Comporta one of their favorite places This beach has been awarded the Blue Flag over the years, a symbol of the quality you can find.

In 2015, the Sal restaurant, on Pego beach, in Comporta, was considered the best beach bar/restaurant in the world by the readers of an international travel magazine

Bird Watching

Comporta is part of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, providing it with the necessary conditions for the development of the more than 200 species of birds that exist there.

Rice Museum

The Rice Museum tells the history of this area, exhibiting videos, photographs and utensils that were used since the 1830s, when rice cultivation was established in Comporta.

Reservoir of Vale do Gaio

The landscape in Alcácer do Sal is marked by the abundance of water, stored in dams, creeks, rivers and streams Therefore, there is great potential for resources devoted to leisure and sport, namely for nautical activities, adventure tours, fishing and hunting

Cais Palafítico da Carrasqueira

This masterpiece of popular architecture, built in the 50s and 60s, is unique in Europe and is built on irregular wooden stakes, apparently fragile, which serve as a pier for the fishing boats that dock there. A tourist attraction, the pier continues to fulfill the mission for which it was built: to allow fishermen access to boats, even during low tide

The Fortress of Cacela Velha

Built on the highest hill in the city of Alcácer do Sal, the imposing fortification of the Castle and its walls are now home to several interesting buildings, namely: the Pousada D. Afonso II, the Archaeological Crypt, the Church of Santa Maria do Castelo and the archaeological site of the Roman Forum and the residential area
