O Edifício | The Building Localizado na Serra d’Ossa, entre Estremoz e Redondo, o Convento de São Paulo erguido no ano de 1182, em pleno Alentejo, por monges pertencentes à ordem de São Paulo Ermita, é um dos edifícios mais icónicos da sua época, sobretudo por ainda preservar, de forma perfeita, alguns dos seus traços originais.

Pelos seus quartos e corredores passaram verdadeiras lendas da História de Portugal, como D. Sebastião, D. João IV e D. Catarina de Bragança. Prova disso é a tela restaurada pelo Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga de Lisboa, existente na Biblioteca do Convento, que atesta a passagem de Sebastião por este espaço, nos finais de 1577.

Located in Serra d'Ossa, between Estremoz and Redondo, the Convent of São Paulo, built in 1182, in the heart of Alentejo, by monks belonging to the order of São Paulo Ermita, is one of the most iconic buildings of its time, especially for perfectly preserve some of its original features.

True legends of the history of Portugal passed through its rooms and corridors, such as D. Sebastião, D. João IV and D. Catarina de Bragança. Proof of this is the canvas restored by the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon, existing in the Convent Library, which attests to Sebastião’s passage through this space at the end of 1577.

Fontes e Terracotas Fountains and Terracottas As fontes florentinas são outro dos ícones do Convento e que podem ser encontradas tanto no seu exterior como interior. A Fonte do Leão, junto à entrada principal do espaço, foi destino de romarias durante vários anos. No Jardim das Quatro Estações, encontra-se a Fonte do Dragão classificada como Monumento Nacional.

Já na Portaria Nova encontra-se a Fonte dos Golfinhos datada da segunda metade do século XVIII. O Jardim dos Noviços é outro dos espaços icónicos do Convento.

Adornado também com uma fonte, o destaque vai para as suas terracotas, esculturas que podem ser encontradas nos seus nichos, datadas do séc. XVIII. Among the different dishes on the menu, there are Dogfish Soup, Tomato Soup, Lamb “Carré”, Black pork “Lizards” with asparagus migas, Cod “Tacos”, among others.

All dishes are complemented by a vast wine cellar that includes a careful choice of Alentejo wines, and by the variety of excellent conventual and regional sweets.
