International Stars To Light Up La Joya

hile the sister isle is kicking off their eight day extravaganza known as the Tobago Jazz Experience, esteemed members of the international entertainment fraternity will also be on Trinidad’s shores for a much hyped event. YMCMB artist Shad ‘Bow Wow’ Moss a.k.a. Mr. 106 and Park will lead a celebrity lineup as part of BET’s Spring Blingg Trinidad. Melanie The event takes place on SatFiona urday April 20th at La Joya Poolside St. Joseph and also features American Beauty Queen and television personality Claudia Jordan (who will share hosting duties with Moss). Murder Inc Records affiliate DJ D-Lyfe will handle the bulk of the musical entertainment at this very hip-hop oriented event. However, the event will cater to the Trinidad public’s diverse entertainment requirements and feature local acts as well. event. “It’s a blessing to be one of the only local performers at an event like this and I just thank the most high for a great opportunity. I’ve been representing the country on an international scale for a year now and I am grateful so I’m
going to give them something special” said the bard. The event is being presented by local collective Feed Da Wolves who was responsible for bringing French Montana to our shores last
year. Orlando Octave has been collaborating with members of the Feed Da Wolves staple of late – most notably on Bang Em Smurf’s “Pain.” Urban apparel company the Hideout is also affiliated with the event. Patrons will be pleased to know that there is an all-access VIP passes available featuring food and drinks. There, one can mingle with the renowned celebrities on the bill. This event seems to be another step toward taking Trinidad and Tobago’s entertainment landscape and culture overseas. ET&T will continue to follow the action as it draws near.
The Law Soft On Celebrities? Public Voices concern over leniency trend
I
n the space of just under one month, three of Trinidad and Tobago’s most well-known celebrities were sentenced for having committed different crimes. On Februrary 25th, Soca superstar Machel Montano and Producer/ songwriter Kernal Roberts received fines for their roles in a five year old assault case. Ironically Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne also received fines for three charges under the sexual offences act after airing footage displaying the rape of a 13 year old girl. In the eyes of much of the general public, these offences seemed serious enough to warrant jail time and many thought both cases would result in penitentiary stints since both trials continually got pushed back. In the end, Montano and Roberts paid mini-

mal fines and damages of roughly $27,000 and $24,000 respectively. Magistrate Maureen BaboolalGafoor said she took into account the contribution both stars had made to the country before handing out sentence. Ian Alleyne was charged $30,000 in fines or 72 months
prison time in default for what is deemed a much more serious crime than the one Montano and Roberts were involved in. Yet, his fate was no more severe than that of the musicians. ET&T fan Danielle Hernandez said she believed the fines were petty and that anyone else
would have been jailed. Tobago schoolteacher Karen Edwards also shared a similar opinion. “I believe they were shown favouritism due to their celebrity” she said. Upon posting the news of the sentences on ET&T’s facebook page many appeared disgruntled and found that the results set a bad precedent. Some cited that if public figures could get away it tells the general public that these crimes are escapable with the right amount of funds to back you up. The T&T public is becoming more and more vocal about perceived injustices these days and they will no doubt keep an eye on that they now believe to be a trend. Local Karyssa Babwah Reflects On ‘Janice’ Role News Voiceover star says more to come… T
wenty-two year old Karyssa Babwah may possess soft, puppet-like facial features, but a look at her in real life is no giveaway when it comes to her role as the voice of Janice from Lexo TV’s famous SANTANA series. The Diego Martin born, San Juan raised individual is quite unassuming though she has expressed herself via the arts from a very young age. Now that the SANTANA project has taken off following its early web success, Babwah is preparing herself for a hectic time in the near future as she balances an alternate career in finance with school and “all that is going on with Lexo TV now.” However, she has faith since she believes “It’s not hard when you love what you do.” Karyssa reflected on the relative ease with which she acquired the role due in part to her connections. “I knew Avis Holder (Patsy) a few years before she introduced me to the gang. I saw one of their shorts on YouTube which featured Avis’ voice and it drew my attention so much I decided to contact her
and let her know that I’m available should they ever need a voice. She called soon after, took me for Roger Alexis to hear my voice and that was it... I’m Janice!” She does admit that several people have found parallels between her character on film and her in real life. No doubt creator of the franchise Roger Alexis would have also picked up on it when deciding to use her. “My friends say I fit the character “Janice” when it comes to her attitude towards Santana. I wish I could beg to differ.” says Babwah. The ability to draw from within is essential to her voicing as all the voiceover stars are encouraged to improvise even though they have scripts. “Roger asks us to say what feels comfortable or natural.
The infamous Pastor Stewart and Sister Agnes ‘cuss-out’ was improv. It’s hard to write a free flowing cuss-out.” Despite putting in the work Babwah still finds it hard to listen to the finished product. She believes the attention simmers her down to shyness. “My voice is just a tad bit on the annoying side. I sometimes leave the room when my part comes up.” She intimated reticently. However, she wouldn’t change her involvement for the world and she is thankful for her blessings and the money her talent brings in. In fact, though Karyssa does not feel all that comfortable with her voice she admits that it has opened other avenues as she has received many offers – especially in advertising.
However, her focus is on a multitude of projects earmarked for the near future; where she plans to continue developing the characters she plays. “Well there are so many things we’re working on to hopefully drop this year, including live shows on stage. However, instead of hand puppets, we’re using actual life-size costumes. It should be more grand and easier for us to maneuver ourselves. Leroy is getting his own TV show as well, but it’s for the kids, so no cussing or *beeping*. He’ll still maintain his “bad-seed” image though. The show should teach kids right from wrong. Destra and Others Rock St. Maarten Heineken Regatta Phillipsburg, St.Maarten – The sounds of Reggae, Soca, Zouk, House and Soul music filled the air on the isle of St. Maarten during the 33rd Heineken Regatta; an event which is highly recognized for its magnificent stage shows and untouchable after parties as it is for its sailing action. The entertainment card for these regatta mega-concerts featured some of St. Maarten’s and the Caribbean’s most dynamic performers and was headlined by the incomparable Motown group ‘The Commodores’. The seasoned musicians and vocalists who are famous for hit songs “Night Shift” and “Slippery When Wet” brought down the house at Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Bay for the grand finale of the Regatta. Throughout the years the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta has featured top regional and international music acts such as Shaggy, Wyclef Jean, The Black Eyed Peas and the Marley Brothers. eeva Chase is an upcoming film producer and fashion stylist. This amidst her current academic pursuits at the University of the West Indies, where she is currently pursuing a BS Behavioural Science Psychology. Her choice of study is a direct result of her concern and keen interest in human development. It is this aspect that also fuels her interest as a film producer and an upcoming fashion stylist. In 2009 Keeva’s film journey commenced. She acquired training through The Good News Video Production Project (TGN) which is a local Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO). Through this forum she was able to pass on her knowledge and train other youth in areas of film production throughout Trinidad. She has worked with individuals from areas such as Rio Claro, Toco, Siparia, Penal and Carson Field to

One such aspect of her work in-
cludes a short video on the utilisation of hydroponics in agriculture. For this she received an award from NIHERST for promoting Science Technology and Innovation (STI) for Agricultural Development in the Caribbean. Recently she has been recruited by top T&T stylist Anderson Pierre of P. Noire.Vou Ltd Image and Promotion agency. In addition to her pursuits in the film industry, Keeva Chase is tapping into her creative ingenuity as she explores her hand as a fashion
stylist. She draws her inspiration from films, fashion, the environment, architecture and body shapes. Although her experience is limited she is determined to find her niche. She states, “The Caribbean possesses a unique sense of style and spice. It is this brand of fashion that we can tap into to produce something fashion friendly and innovative”. Despite her brief entry into the world of local fashion Keeva has managed to work alongside her mentor and has been afforded the chance to style top local celebrities such as Trinidad James and Patrice Roberts to name a few. Ravi B and Karma retain ‘Clash of the Titans’ title

resh off of a successful 2013 T&T Carnival season, Caribbean music band Ravi B and Karma won over thousands of patrons at the annual mega-concert ‘Clash of the Titans 3’ which was recently held at the Guyana National Stadium. According to Guyanese media house ‘The Guyana Times’ the band tore the roof off the venue with a show-stealing 45 minute set and was undoubtedly the highlight of a fantastic evening which also included performances by Guyana’s Terry Gajraj and Adrian Dutchin as well as Trinidad and Tobago’s JW and Blaze, Rick Ramoutar and K.I. with JMC 3Veni. Karma frontman Ravi B shared his delight at his band remaining ‘Clash of the Titans’ champions for yet another year, “We feel so excited and blessed to cop this title once again, but more importantly we are very thankful for all the love and support we have received from 4

Always one to be a trendsetter, risk-taker and to try new things for the entertainment of his fans, Ravi, who this year unleashed the now famed ‘Lizard’ haircut (a hairstyle which was copied by fellow artistes and fete patrons throughout the season) collaborated with his band mates to be the first group of Caribbean musicians to execute a hilarious video meme of the popular ‘Harlem Shake’. ET&T: Who was influential in guiding you back to the limelight? S.B: Russell Latapy. The inspiration came from him. He didn’t get a chance to perform in Germany under Beenhakker. I start to cry and the joy that Trinidad would have felt…just put on Latapy and in the England game, they didn’t. And that joy right they, I start to tap into that joy so I said I just have to tap into that joy, and the only thing that could happen is that I could come back. I could write the song and come back and you see the joy, the joy was there. Then a nice thing happened in Trinidad and Tobago, we wanted a nice thing to happen. We were just waiting. You eh see all de crime and thing done? Nice things happen.
ustin ‘Superblue’ Lyons is not only the comeback story of the year, but a true bona fide music legend. He is the holder of nine Carnival Road March titles to go with his seven Soca Monarch titles (both of which he copped this year after a ten year hiatus from competition). Plus, he is widely known as the inventor of the waving phenomenon that is a fixture at fetes and Carnival events worldwide. ET&T had the pleasure of catching up with Superblue to find out how is feeling now that the deafening Carnival din has settled. Here is an interview with recording royalty. ET&T: How do you feel about the outpouring of love you received for the Carnival season? S.B: I frighten. You don’t feel frighten when you get too much love? ET&T: No S.B: Boy it frightened meh, because I don’t know what I do to inherit it (laughs). And no man is perfect, I keep asking God “What did I do?” Because the Webster dictionary, the Oxford Dictionary and all the encyclopaedias put together can’t explain that kind of love. I look for it, but I can’t handle it, so I just accept it and depending on the Lord Father daily, what I can do to try to make up? So I’m attending to the kids right now, the children, the schools and he will guide me with what needs to be done, I don’t have the answers. ET&T: Should we expect to hear something from Super ever year? S.B: Yes, once God is alive, I’m alive. ET&T: But you only did one song this year, maybe next year you will release
ET&T: Does he (Russell Latapy) know? S.B: Well by now he must know; I eh tell him anything but, all the interviews and thing I do, he probably knows. ET&T: Which current artiste is your favourite? S.B: I am ingredients of a number of people: Stalin, Sparrow, Duke, Nelson…

S.B: Umm… Two songs coming out in the next two weeks for Borough Day and I am hoping to do something for some… I don’t wanna say yet because it might not be released, but I know for sure one is on the board to come out next week for Point Fortin Borough Day. ET&T: But are you working on anything for 2014?

ET&T: I know that you may not be ready to give up the ‘High-priest of Soca’ crown, but could anybody dethrone you right now? S.B: Yea! Makeup Tips for the

hey say diamonds are a girl’s best friend. However, more girls keep a makeup kit closer than a pricey rock any day. In fact, makeup is often a pivotal tool a female would use in order to get a guy to purchase their beloved diamonds. With that said, the application of makeup needs to be on point or its better to go barefaced. Here are some quick tips for applying makeup and some advice on preparing your face before it is applied. Makeup looks its best on healthy skin so it is important to start looking after your skin as soon as possible. Try and schedule at least two trips to the spa for facials. Regular facial treatment minimizes the damage caused by whitehead and black head extraction. It helps rejuvenate the skin and makes it look younger. It also improves blood circulation so you can have that special glow on your day. If you have problems with excessive oiliness or dryness of the skin regular facials can help treat this as well. Water plays an important part in how skin looks so be sure to drink at least eight glasses daily. Water adds natural moisture to the skin and gives it a healthy glow. It also helps with the aging process in the future. Being well hydrated during exercise allows you to have a better more productive workout. Now I know that there are some of us who have problems with drinking water. Their most common arguments are that they don’t get the time to drink enough water or that they don’t like it because it has no taste. To help alleviate this problem bring a bottle of water from home, the bigger the bottle the more water there is for you to drink. If you have a problem with taste there are different flavor options now available. It goes without saying that diet also plays a significant part in the way your skin looks. Incorporating chocolate, yogurt, pomegranate, walnuts, sunflower seeds
beauty and kidney beans into your diet can go a long way to improving your looks. Of course there are many more foods which are great, but you get the point. A great diet contributes to great skin. Here are some steps that can be used when applying makeup: 1. Remember to cleanse, tone and moisturize your face before you start to put your make up on. 2. Use foundation that blends into your skin tone. Don’t forget to blend it into your neck as well to avoid embarrassing streak lines. 3. Use neutral tones if the event is taking place in the day. You can add more color if you are going out in the night. 4. Use an eyelash curler to make your eyelashes appear longer. 5. To prevent clumping of eyelashes, do not use old mascara. 6. Waterproof eyeliner and mascara is a must. You don’t want them to start running when your eyes water o sweat runs down unto your eyelids. 7. Avoid having a shiny face by powdering your face with loose translucent powder after you apply your foundation. Take along pressed powder with you for touch ups. 8. Stay away from crème eye shadows. You need them to stay on so use powder eye shadows. 9. Apply lip liner under matte lipstick and then add some lip gloss. 10. Keep your foundation light to avoid streaking and when you are finished check it outdoors or in bright light. here is something about bringing in the dawn aboard T a party cruise liner that is just unparalleled. As the boat gently bobs on the ocean surf and the sun rises in the east there
is a tinge of romantic expectation as well as unbridled excitement felt by patrons. AM Hook 2 offered those who attended that experience as well as some of the best music mixes one could ask for aboard the Treasure Queen. The event featured a great ratio of swanky girls to lucky guys as well. ET&T were on board for the fiesta.

initiative called Chill Spot. The launch was one of the first events to bring people out of their homes during the slow Lenten period for parties which usually follow Carnival. Some familiar faces from the party circuit showed up and there were one or two celebrities on hand as well. ET&T’s skilled paparazzi were on hand to capture the goings on at Rossco’s.

Matura Beach Clean Up
he end of Easter usually ushT ers in the start of the turtle nesting period for the endan-
gered leatherback species. This period is a big event for several Trinis and tourists alike as they set out on excursions to check out the actual act of turtle watching as the leatherbacks lay eggs. In order to facilitate safe nesting, some good people with nature at heart took to cleaning up the premier nesting site – Matura beach. The group known as ‘Nature Lovers’, were joined by a couple schools and like-minded caring individuals to execute the initiate. Apart from the cleaning, the group also took time to educate the public on nature and display a few animals in the process.

AL Little Effort Goes A Long Way ife is so fast-paced that sometimes we just can’t afford to put the required time and energy into a project that is required. Getting dressed should not fall into the category of one of those projects. You may not be able to go all out every time you leave the house, but there should at least put a little effort into your dress code and appearance. The oversized initialed belt is one thing, but the powder on her neck is completely unacceptable. Sigh.
Why is the girl on the far right looking like she just finished playing a game of beach soccer? We know it’s the ‘dry season’, but there is no reason why her legs and feet should be so ashy in public. Trust us… the lotion is your friend.
Rocking mid-cut sneakers to a club? I’m surprised they let her in. She even wore accessories to match her sneakers meaning that this was premeditated.

Name: Kevin Hart Age: 32 (July 3rd, 1980) Career: Actor, Comedian Claim to Fame: North Philly Pennsylvania native Kevin Hart grew up with his older brother in a single parent home run by his mother Nancy. His father was absent due to always being in jail largely as a result of a cocaine ad-
diction. Kevin often used comedy as a coping mechanism in his youth. He was later able to develop his comedic skills and confidence enough to enter stand up competitions while being a full-time shoe salesman. He had a rough time at the start, being booed several times and even having objects flung at him. However, he nurtured his craft and took bits and pieces from his mentors Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, and Dave Chappelle to round off his performances. He soon got bit part roles on television and later on the big screen before his brand grew enough for him to tour. He began his touring with "I'm a Grown Little Man", followed by "Seriously Funny" in 2010, "Laugh At My Pain" in 2011, and most recently, his special called "Let Me Explain" in early 2012. Laugh At My Pain was one
of the year's top-selling tours having grossed over 15million dollars. Hart is now a full-fledged Hollywood star with memorable performances in Think Like A Man, Soul Plane, Scary Movie 4 and Death At A Funeral. Hart was awarded as Best Actor in the BET Awards for his
role in Think Like A Man. He also held the honour of hosting the 2012 MTV Music Awards. Before that, Hart wrote and starred on his own ABC sitcom, The Big House, in 2004. It lasted only six episodes before being canceled.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Part two of this animated gem picks up right where the first part ended. Flint Lockwood now works at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V. Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Benjamin Bratt, Terry Crews and Will Forte are some of the stars who will do voiceovers for the film.
