LENDL SIMMONS OVERCOMES SCANDAL CRICKETER NOW A FOCUSED FAMILY MAN WITH BRIGHT BUSINESS FUTURE

endl Simmons is one of those prominent local cricketers who have remained humble and pleasant while crafting his career as an international player. He commenced his cricket career at a tender age after being selected for the Trinidad and Tobago Under14team. This was followed by further selections for the Under19 A Team and later on the Senior Team. In 2002 and 2004 he was selected for the West Indies Under -19 World cup team. Lendl's first One Day International cap came in 2006 as a budding 21 year old batsman. He commenced this form of cricket again in 2009 and has since been a regular at it since. Simmons' first test cap came in 2009 against England. Since then his game has greatly improved and continues to subtly astonish the cricketing. Lendl Simmons is one of the more gifted players as his skill set knows no bounds. He is able to bat, bowl and field. In short, he is a true utility player that can assist his team in all spheres of the game. In our, interview he gleefully expressed his pleasure in partaking in the shorter version of cricket, one day or 20/20

cricket as opposed to the enduring extended version which is test cricket. He is hailed by his IPL cricket club Mumbai Indians, as their quiet star. Lendl remarked, “I feel a sense of gratitude and thanks at our efforts, since we moved from last on the table to 1st and ended up winning the IPL tournament. That in itself was a great victory for me”. This to him is one of his greatest cricketing achievements to date. However, earlier this year Lendel Simmons' name was smeared in a relationship scandal that by all intentions could have adversely affected his somewhat spotless career. He was very open and straight forward about his encounter sighting it as simply part of the international cricket territory when it comes to popularity and women. Although a very low key player, he managed to be engulfed in this scandal that saw headlines across all the newspapers. Quite frankly he stated, “Women can be a bit bold towards men in terms of pursuit and financial gain, especially in the field of cricket where it’s now a bit more popular. At the time of this unfortunate issue, I was

not in a relationship and the female individual simply attempted to attain some sort of financial reprisal. As far as I am concerned people would have perceived the situation however they chose anyway. I dealt with it and just focused on my career”. Despite all attempts, he believes that it in no way hindered his career. In fact, that situation was used as an anchor to propel his career forward and inspired him to work harder. Through that ordeal he has learnt to be cautious and guard himself and gives the same advice to up and coming cricketers. Now a new chapter has been written in his life as he has undertaken the role of husband and father to a beautiful daughter. This aspect is now at the top of his life

spectrum even over taking his 1st love of cricket. He is thoroughly enjoying fatherhood and family life. For Lendl cricket and family is where his heart lies. In his down time he just enjoys his family and wants to take them on a family vacation. Contrary to popular belief he has no intentions of coaching cricket when he retires. For the future his plans are simply to improve his family life and gain better returns from his real estate investments.

SHAFT’S SUCCESS STORY CONTINUES ACE WRITER NABS SEVERAL AWARDS AT REGIONAL FESTIVAL J ason Shaft Bishop is on one helluva roll. The Trini songwriting ace enjoyed a period of mammoth success during Trinbago Carnival this year as eight of the songs he penned made it into the Soca Monarch finals. He continued his great run of form with even more success at Barbados’ recently concluded Crop Over festivities. Shaft wrote the Red Boyz produced All Ah We for Peter Ram, which swept three major accolades at Barbados carnival including the Road March. Bishop also wrote several popular tunes for other Bajan artistes this year including Alison Hinds’ Parade, Biggie Irie’s Sweet Type of Way, Kirk Brown’s You’re My #1,

Hypasounds’ Sugar Rush, Mikey Mercer’s Hands On The Road, and Imani’s Fire Meh. As a result, the National Cultural Foundation in Barbados

awarded Bishop the Best Songwriter of the Festival award. The award came with a cash prize (a much deserved one for someone who has boosted so many careers this year thanks to his hit-making

abilities). The recognition ceremony took place at the Crop Over Awards Reception at the Hilton Barbados. Though Shaft was absent for the proceedings, he and his team expressed gratitude on social media via his Shaft Vibes Entertainment Facebook page. The message reads as follows: “Barbados has honored our very own @jasonshaftbishop, awarding him with this lovely accolade. DOLE CHADEE MOVIE COMING TO LOCAL THEATRES

S

ixteen years ago a notorious drug kingpin, Dole Chadee, along with the remaining eight members of his gang, was hanged for crimes committed. His story is about to be told to many in the upcoming film DOLE….Long Time Coming. Speaking with the director of the film Ellis Briggs, he admitted that the film - though a fictional story - includes real scenarios concerning Dole. He further went on to say, “it is not an actual biography of Chadee nor is it only based on the 1990’s. It will also be based on current ‘gangsterism’ in Trinidad.” He did however divulge that Chadee’s family was a bit skeptical as to how his lifestyle would be depicted. No scenes will be shot in Chadee’s hometown, Piparo. However Briggs further revealed they are making the character a contemporized sexy Dole. As such the house being used is located at the edge of a cliff, near the ocean at Bacolet Beach Club on the sweet isle of Tobago. The overarching idea of the film is a love story in the midst of violence. The official teaser trailer for the movie was aired last Friday on WinTV and it can also be seen on the film’s Facebook page DOLE the MOVIE or Karnival TV Network’s YouTube page. Arrangements are being made for it to be shown on other local television channels. Though the trailer is only 1:07 minutes long, it is certainly action packed and it leaves viewers with a dire need to know more. Though the cast is still being put together, Dole’s character and his rivals were handpicked. Adesh Samaroo is Dole with Sqeezy Rankin and Marlon Asha as the King Brothers since according to Briggs they “fit that portfolio.” There is also Raynold Sewdass as the character Naya and Timothy Teemal as Rama. Currently the casting of ladies is still in process since the team is still looking for “leading, sexy, beautiful woman 2

to star in the movie and be part of the cast.” For further information on casting, persons can contact the casting director by emailing Giselle@karnivaltv.com Briggs is no stranger to the local entertainment industry and has directed Nicki Minaj’s music video, Pound the Alarm and several advertisements for UNICEF, the New Zealand Government, European Educational Fund, Tobago Channel 5 and the 5th Summit of the Americas. He believes that by creating this film it will help to jump-start the industry. “It is aiming to create a catalyst for the film industry in Trinidad and Tobago,” he said. He also believes that since Dole is an iconic figure in Trinidad and Tobago, the movie will be commercially viable and that will live on. So what has the response been thus far? According to Briggs “it has been overwhelming, phenomenal and excellent even our Facebook page already has over 10,000 likes. So in general the response has been 100% positive and it’s already a success.” The film’s teaser trailer has also been viewed 1,396 times on the YouTube channel while there have been several comments and shares of the content posted on the film’s Facebook page. Although the response has been great thus far, Briggs has admitted financing is one of the challenges being faced at the moment as he says, “financing for film in Trinidad and Tobago is a myth.” According to the film’s Facebook page, the movie is described as a $12,000,000 action film. The film is estimated to be 120 mins to 2 hours long and a tentative release date has been set for December 23rd 2015. The premiere will take place at Digicel IMAX, thereafter it will be showed at all cinemas throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Are you excited for the premiere of DOLE…Long Time Coming? On November 25th, Ola would be added to the list of the few Soca artistes that can boast of sharing Soca music live in Dubai, an opportunity that he is quite excited about. “ZATTI! I am ready and willing to accept the duties that come along with being a cultural ambassador,” said Ola. He continues

to embrace the constant changes which impact his music such as his recent EDM remix of “Ola” with 5z1 Productions who he will

The excitement that Ola experiences while on stage or in studio is incomparable to that of the birth of the existence of his two daughters, one of whom was born on July 29th 2015. Dhakiya Yearwood (pronounced DaKeya) reminded Ola yet again of the importance of his role as a father. He is embracing fatherhood and all that it offers and admits, “It’s no easy task but it is rewarding once you do it well and the right way.” His statement not only speaks to fatherhood but to his music. By mid-September his album ‘AWAKENING’ will be released and will represent what he considers well crafted, writ-

CAITLYN JENNER HALLOWEEN COSTUME SPARKS UPROAR Costume companies have provoked outrage after unveiling a Caitlyn Jenner Halloween outfit. Supporters of the transgender television star, formerly known as Bruce, have labeled the unisex ensemble "transphobic" and "disgusting". The "Call Me Caitlyn" costume is similar to Jenner's look in June's Vanity Fair magazine

cover story where he unveiled a feminine identity. Spirit Halloween defended the outfit, which consists of a wig, white bodice, hot pants and sash printed with the words "Call Me Caitlyn". "We create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said the company's senior director of marketing, Lisa Barr. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that." Spirit Halloween said it had not yet debuted the outfit. However, it is on sale through other retail websites, including Wholesale Halloween Costumes and Anytime Costumes, for $49.90 (£32) and $74.99 respectively.

MODEL MANIA Name: Danielle Sophia Bernard Age: 19 Hometown: Diego Martin Beauty and modeling go hand in hand and Danielle has a firm grip on both worlds. She is undoubtedly beautiful and is pursuing studies to become a medical esthetician. She says she dreams of helping women recognize their true beauty by creating skin care and makeup products derived from the Caribbean. She juggles this with modeling (a pastime she has embraced for roughly two years.) Some of the photographers she has worked with are Nigel Reid, Mark Joseph, Kerron Riley, Dexter Browne, Elise Romany, Matthew Mora, Lyden Thomas, Chris Daniel and most recently Ikenna Douglas. As a model, Ms. Bernard would have to have had experiences with a few designers. Yet, she claims she is no slave to fashion as she is more of a simple dresser. She admits that she does admire Burberry and Chanel internationally and Peta Odini and Anya Ayoung-Chee where local style is concerned. On a personal note, the very driven and intelligent Danielle is pretty cool, but she has a pet peeve. She can’t stand narcissists. She especially doesn’t appreciate when people (particularly men) are overly confident and self-centered. In terms of achieving her look, it seems to be all about genetics since she states that she “admires the gym from afar.” However, she does pay attention to what she consumes. She stays hydrated and monitors her daily vitamin intake and stays away from junk. When she actually does work out she visits Rough House in St. Ann’s where she says the training is intense and she learns a few MMA skills as well. As for the aspiring esthetician’s number one personal cosmetic tip: She posits “I am a strong believer in Tea Tree Oil for blemishes.” 12 ET&T • AUGUST, 2015 • www.amgtt.com

CHOOSING A MAKEUP ARTIST W

hether weddings or graduations, these days are memorable ones not only because of the occasion, but because the event is always documented via photo or video. Nobody in that situation wants to spend such a day in less than stellar condition. Therefore, many people don’t do their own makeup on special days. Instead they seek the help of qualified makeup artists. However, the number of makeup horror stories can usually match the success stories. It is therefore important to find the right one for the job. Begin with a list. Decide what things are most important to you in a makeup artist and their offered services. Will you need makeup for your team as well? Then you need someone who can handle that size group. Or perhaps you’re on a tight budget and need someone who can work within that limit, no matter what. Make a list of these important things for reference during your research and to take with you to your consultation. Then, as you begin your search, start with your friends and ask them who did their makeup for their special occasion. Look at their photos and take note of how their makeup looked throughout the day and in different lighting situations. Did the makeup look just as good before the ceremony as it did in the last frame? Talk to your photographer about what kind of look you want for your pictures and ask them for a recommendation. Your photographer will be able to give you a professional opinion about someone in the industry that they may have already worked with. Use your local resources to research professional Makeup Artists in your area. Another tip to enhancing your search for the right makeup artist is to do a trial run. Organize a trial run. Wear a white shirt to your makeover to give you some idea of what a white background would look like with the colors the artist selected. If the makeover meets

BEAUTY

with your approval, talk to the artist about doing your makeup. Alternatively, you may want to call a few makeup artists in the phone book and ask the cost of a makeover. Communicate with the artist during your trial run. Talk about how you want to look. Bring photographs if you like to show the artist makeup you like. Finally, the importance of a proper budget cannot be understated. The cost of a make-up artist can vary significantly. To be efficient, decide how much you plan to spend on make up before you start your search. Many artists list prices on their website, as well as sample photos of past clients, making websites a great place to start.

ew mas band Entice N offered what they deemed “a prelude to

the ultimate street experience in 2016” with the launch of Lavish. The band – a spinoff from Fantasy Carnival – premiered nine for the fairly small band. The band was intentionally smaller as the entire concept of Entice was designed to facilitate a much smaller and more intimate but totally fun experience. The actual launch reflected that as there was loads of fun to be had on the night. The crowd was noticeably large considering the band was not carded to be big, but there was not the feeling of vibes being lost in the crowd. ET&T was there to share in the atmosphere. Here’s a peek. ON FLEEK? WE BEG TO DIFFER

f your outfit is on fleek, then you Igood are well on your way to leaving a impression. If it isn’t, then you

may be experiencing issues similar to these two highlighted here.

This mature partygoer decided to wear stockings with her outfit. However, her palette was wrong. Those are not nude stockings. The shimmery lighttoned leg coverers stood out like a sore thumb. She probably doesn’t even know the meaning of fleek, but it’s just as well since she is not on fleek.

She left her house probably thinking her office attire was on fleek. However, as the young people would say… “This is not a flick”. The burnt orange skirt-suit with black stockings was thrown off completely by the silver flats. What’s up with that? Her friend dressed like a referee should have given her the three count.
