His latest offering is an international collaboration with award winning Dj Power for his song "WARRIORS" featuring Jamaican Reggae legend and frequent Hip-Hop collaborator Junior Reid alongside Jahbami out of the Suns of Dub camp. Produced by Dj Power (Toronto) & Nightcrashers (England) this is a truly global song that sonically smashes together Hip-Hop, Reggae & Trap. Chromatics told ET&T what the process of constructing the collab was like. “DJ Power and I performed at an event in Toronto called Skylime and we built a relationship from there. Power was the DJ for Junior Reid and Jr. Reid came to the show and saw my performance. Initially the song was just Jr. Reid, but when Power asked me to

are still giving it airtime locally. We are in rotation on a station in LA and also in New York. I’m not too concerned with the seasonal thing though.” The wordsmith also took the time to promote his upcoming show. rinidad and Tobago based singer/songwriter/band leader Nadia Batson is focused on standing out during the upcoming Carnival seasons throughout the world. Already taking a lead, the SASS The Band leader has released two singles; ‘Magic’ (featuring Sekon Sta) and ‘Sorry’, both of which have quickly become favourites of many Soca lovers. On both tracks Nadia can be considered as a tease as her vocals mesh brilliantly with both words and melodies leaving music enthusiasts anticipating more. Constantly in studio working on new material Nadia can be expected to release tracks produced
by Martian Music, Mega Mick, Precision Productions and Advokit Productions. The satisfaction of her fans is guaranteed and she is pulling out all the stops. For Nadia, “Quality should never be compromised” and she applies this mantra to all aspects of her life. This mantra also extends to her involvement in Digicel Rising Stars as a judge for the second consecutive year. Nadia sees it yet again as an opportunity which allows her to share her knowledge in entertainment with budding entertainers. It’s quite fair at the moment to align both released song titles to Nadia’s persona for 2016 and beyond. With musical con-
tributions that are Magical those interacting would be forced to say Sorry for their uncontrollable enjoyment. Nadia is doing things her way, to the best of her ability and refuses to be sidelined or ignored. She is putting in the work and sacrificing for ultimate success. With band rehearsals having already begun in preparation for the Carnival season, Nadia touring as a solo act and the band gearing up for performances in Anguilla and other Caribbean territories before year's end, there will be no one denying Nadia’s brilliance. Sounds like a mouthful right? Don’t take your eyes off Nadia; she has too much in store. www.amgtt.com • NOVEMBER, 2015 • ET&T

SPARROW TO RECEIVE OBE
C
alypso icon Slinger Francisco, otherwise known as the Mighty Sparrow received in hand the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on October 22nd. Sparrow received the award in the isle of his birth, Grenada for what was cited as “services to culture.” The Order of the British Empire is the "order of chivalry of British democracy", rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organizations and public service
outside the Civil Service. It was announced since midJune of this year that the award was conferred on him during a reading of Queen Elizabeth II's
birthday list. Francisco has received several state and other high profile awards over the years. Last year, he was awarded the Order of Trinidad & Tobago, this nation’s highest award. Prior to that, he received a Lifetime achievement Award from the government in 2013. He received the Humming Bird Medal (Silver) in 1969 and followed that up with a Chaconia Medal (Gold) in 1993. Sparrow is also the holder of an honorary PhD from the University of the West Indies and a chieftaincy from the Nigerian Government
which gave him the title Chief Omo Wale of Iyoki. After leaving Grenada at age two, the calypso legend spent most of his years in Trinidad, while he developed portions of his career in Guyana and the United States. However, he has never let go of his Grenadian heritage and both he and the Grenadian public are proud that he received the award there. The Mighty Sparrow won both the Road March and Calypso Monarch titles eight times and is regarded as the Calypso King of the World.

K
imberly Farrah Singh will no longer be representing Trinidad and Tobago at the 2015 Miss World competition. Instead runner up in the competition’s local leg in July Daniella Walcott will participate in her place. The news broke via the release of a statement from attorney Kevin Rattiram on franchise holders Oneness Entertainment Trinidad and Tobago Limited’s behest. The statement read: “Please be informed that due to certain developments following the Miss World Trinidad and Tobago beauty pageant, held on the 25th day of July, 2015, Mrs. Sahatoo-Manoo and Oneness Entertainment Trinidad and Tobago Limited, have terminated Miss Kimberly Singh, as the reigning Miss World Trinidad and Tobago, and replaced her with the first runner-up in the said pageant, Miss Daniella Walcott. Miss Walcott is therefore, now the reigning Miss World Trinidad and Tobago and shall represent Trinidad and Tobago in the Miss World Beauty Pageant, to be held in China, in December 2015." 2
she was supposed to pay the franchise holders a considerable sum of money which she was unable to produce in time and the post made it clear that Singh was not guilty of any wrongdoing. The post was later removed and Singh went on to say her social media account was hacked. Niether Mrs. Sahatoo Manoo nor Kimberly Farrah Singh would elaborate on the matter.
Daniela Walcott
President of Oneness Entertainment Vanessa SahatooManoo said that a lot of consideration went into the decision to replace Singh and stated that it was done to protect both her company’s and the country’s image. However, a potentially damaging social media firestorm erupted after a post appeared on Singh’s Facebook page stating that sponsorship and funding issues were responsible for her being cut. It insinuated that

JEHUE GORDON DISPLAYS AMBITION TO THE WORLD
ehue Gordon is one of Trinidad and Tobago’s finest athletes. He is a World Championship winner and at only 23 years old, displays as much potential as anyone else in his field. Recently, Gordon transferred some of that potential into something more. He became the first local athlete to release his own signature fragrance at a snazzy launch at cricket legend Brian Lara’s Lady Chancellor Hill home in Port of Spain. The product was aptly named Ambition by Jehue and it is a true reflection of what people have come
to expect from the champion hurdler. Gordon said this game-changing move was influenced by the persistence of his local manager Edward Skinner who first brought up the idea over a year ago. Jehue believed it was important that he build his brand first through his performances before embarking on such an initiative. However, it seems now that such an initiative may just be the catalyst for building his brand and bringing more attention to him on the track. Several celebrities lent support to Jehue at the event. Fellow sporting heroes, Dwayne Bravo, Keiron Pollard and Keshorn Walcott were
all present. They all expressed pride in the young man’s attempt to diversify his brand as it augurs well for the upcoming crop of local athletes who are interested in alternate business endeavours in order to secure a life after sport. The cologne was manufactured by fragrance industry heavy-hitters Symrise, who operate out of Germany. It is said to be a fragrance composed of several fresh spicy and herbal scents which include a blend of cardamom, cilantro, Italian bergamot, Sicilian lemon, and French rosemary. The perfume’s bouquet is described as fern-like with woody undertones.

eyond physical attributes there are some features that can be easily listed by male suitors as main attractors when referring to women. While the preferences may vary, a confident, self-assured and authentic woman can capture the attention of any right thinking man. In recognizing positive female characteristics, Kerwin Du Bois and Christopher Martin are encouraging celebration in their new release ‘Feelin Ya Self.’ It’s quite understandable why women will readily comply with the collaborative track by two of the Caribbean’s best voices. Written by both Kerwin Du Bois and Christopher Martin and produced by Du Bois, the track incorporates sincere melodies, well-penned lyrics and unique rhythms. That’s right; these descriptions have been used many times before, however, listening will further confirm why both artistes are recognized in their respective genres of Soca and Reggae for their contributions. ‘Feelin Ya Self’ will undoubtedly be embraced for the merging of their talents for Carnival 2016. S
ince its release the young Carenage-based singer has gained the attention of Soca fans both young and old due to the song’s pulsating rhythm, classic calypso-like melody and catchy melodious hook. ‘Sweetness’ was written by Nigel Rojas, produced by Danté Pantin and mastered by MadMen Productions and according to Sherry-Ann, was inspired by the late Lord Kitchener’s Calypso hit ‘Sugar Bum Bum’. With this new track she plans to not only motivate waistline movement but to give audiences that much needed ‘sugar rush’ to get the party started. Boasting a lifetime love affair with music, Sherry-Ann brings a wealth of performance experience to her professional career having
entered and won both primary and secondary school Calypso competitions. Now in her second year as a professional Soca artiste she continues to build on the foundation laid by the very artistes that have influenced her which include Destra Garcia, Dense ‘Saucy Wow’ Belfon, Calypso Rose and
Singing Sandra. She shared, “I believe that singing is the talent that the Almighty has blessed me with, and I am only involved in this industry because of the love and passion I have for music. I chose to sing Soca Music as opposed to any other genre because Soca music is my culture and I am very proud to be a Trinbagonian.” At present, the charismatic, persistent and hard-working artiste is gearing up for a busy Carnival season while balancing her vocal training classes, strict workout regime at the gym and her job as a manager of a local seafood outlet. She aspires to showcase her talent in various upcoming carnival fetes, competitions, and media interviews and possibly land an opportunity to be a frontline singer
in a music band. Sherry-Ann also revealed her plans to apply her unique musical delivery to a wider range of genres such as Chutney, Dance hall and Traditional Calypso and to also tour regionally and internationally. "Every 28 hours a black life is stolen by police or vigilantes in the U.S. Every two hours, Israel killed a Palestinian child in its attack on Gaza last summer," the video says. Lauryn Hill holds up a sign that says, "Free All Political Prisoners." Cornel West, Alice Walker, Danny Glover also appear in the three-minute video. DOLLY PARTON DENIES CANCER RUMOURS Dolly Parton says there is "no truth" to a National Enquirer report that claims she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The tabloid alleges that the 69-year-old country music icon was rushed to the hospital, but in a statement posted to Parton's website, she reveals what really happened. "It is true that I had kidney stones," she said. "I had them removed three weeks ago and I am doing just fine!" Not missing an opportunity to promote her latest project, Parton
added, "I am back to work and last week I was at Dollywood filming parts for my new movie 'Coat of Many Colors.'" "I love and appreciate everyone's concern," the singer told her fans. In September, Eagles star Don Henley sparked speculation about Parton's health when he said she "got out of the hospital bed" to shoot his music video for "When I Stop Dreaming." Henley told Nashville's WKRN that Parton filmed for hours and thanked everyone on set. Afterward, "I guess [she] went back to the hospital," the rocker said.

She doesn’t have many years under her belt, but Chloe Joseph has accomplished a lot on the local modeling scene. Since her start
in 2011 she worked with photographers such as Kerron Riley, Damian Luk Pat, Brent Denoon, Nigel Reid, and J. Hamilton. She was also featured on Billboards as part of White Oak’s and Wonderful World’s 2015 campaigns. She does have a passion for fashion as evidenced by the way she spoke about her favourite designers. “I love the amazing work from YUMA Designers - David Dewer, Crystal Marcus and Adrian Wilson. I also love both Rhion Romany and Marie Colette’s individual styles. Internationally, I have always been attracted to Chloé Fashion House, Yves St. Laurent and Coco Chanel.” Style aside, her model image is maintained by keeping active with a combination of gym, running, swimming and yoga. PALOS
to the track? Palos: I believe in baby steps, but as it gets closer to the Carnival season things will progress. At this time I only have one song. However, there are different things that are going to be done with the song. It’s going to be recreated almost about ten times. That way, every week or every different performance you’ll be seeing something new for this song. We’re starting off with baby and after we’re going crazy. Bubblers is something the whole of T&T and by extension the world will be familiar with at the end of this season.
T
hirty-one year old Bon Air resident Kurt Roberts is on the entertainment up and up. Known as ‘Palos’ in the soca world, the enigmatic relative of the late, great Aldwyn ‘Kitchener’ Roberts has been making waves on the local underground circuit for some time. Now, with his tune Bubblers on the Skipe riddim gaining some traction, Palos aims to turn this impetus into fullfledged stardom. ET&T caught up with the up and coming singer/ songwriter for a chat.
ET&T: Who are your musical mentors? Palos: I have three of them. First, Aldwyn “Lord Kitchener” Roberts. I like the way he could turn anything into music. For instance, how he turned the humming of bees [Bees Melody] into a hit. I will touch on Bunji Garlin because I love his lyricism. Of course you have to respect the man who did it like a boss Machel Montano. He’s full of energy and he always thinks out of the box.
ET&T: How long have you been involved in music? Palos: Since childhood. I sang my first song that I wrote at the age of six for Lord Kitchener. It was entitled ANTS. ET&T: Do you have a career apart from Soca? Palos: I work in the Ministry of National Security, but that’s as much as I’m at liberty to discuss right now. ET&T: Who or what influenced you to pursue a career in music? Palos: My friends and family influenced me to get involved in music. Every Carnival I get told that I’m wasting time. I’ve been told that I am well talented and very lyrical. So I made this Carnival the one where I would give my musical career a jumpstart. Also, I’ve found that whenever I’m in a musical setting – whether it is instruments playing or people singing – I always feel as if something is missing and I need to be a part of that. ET&T: Where did the name Palos originate? Palos: Palos is my big brother’s name. I grew up with everyone calling me “Small Palos” or “Young Palos.” Eventually I got rid of the “small” and “young.” Plus, it is a name that stuck with me because it is a greeting that is used when 16 ET&T • NOVEMBER, 2015 • www.amgtt.com
friends meet and I am everyone’s friend.
ET&T: Describe your sound/vibe and say why you think it is needed in the industry. Palos: I find that now there are too many selfish people at parties who always keep to themselves and are on their phones. They don’t want to dance or sweat, because they are afraid their pics won’t look good. I’m just really trying tell the people to have a good time. Bring back the days when the party was all about fun and not about fashion. ET&T: You have been taking baby steps leading up to the release of Bubblers. What’s your plan in terms of your follow up
ET&T: As someone trying to make an industry breakthrough… what is one thing you would change about the industry if you had the power? Palos: The one thing I think I would change is the reluctance to accept new artistes. I think that every time a face is unfamiliar to the persons with the power to make something of the new face, it’s not readily accepted. I think that something should be done to pave a way or make opportunities for new artistes. ET&T: Anything else you would like to share with our readers? Palos: Prepare yourself, because Palos is coming and the whole world is going to be bubbling. Bubblers should not be interpreted as something smutty or slutty. A Bubbler is anyone who goes to a party to have a good time. Bubblers to the world.
THREE TIPS FOR CHOOSING A FRAGRANCE
BEAUTY
B
eauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. For many it also lies in the beholder’s nose. No matter how good you look, nobody is going to find you appealing if you don’t smell right. As such, the right fragrance is a vital addition to any beauty regimen. Here are three things to consider when choosing the right scent.
1
Do not decide to buy the best-known brand of perfume or the most popular fragrance this year just because it is popular. To make a good choice, you should go to the perfumery or store that specializes in perfumes, early in the morning. Usually a person's sense of smell is more accurate in the morning. If you have the cold, allergies, or are just plain tired, save the perfume shopping expedition for another day.
2
Try perfume on clean, non-perfumed skin. Use unscented soap and deodorant when dressing for your shopping trip. During one test you should try only up to three different fragrances. After trying three perfumes, your nose will not be able to recognize more scents. Do not smell the top of the bottle or its cap. The scent on the bottle cap may smell of alcohol instead of smelling accurately like the perfume. Perfume should also always be tried on your skin. Chemical reactions between your skin and the perfume may not change the scent much, or may drastically change the scent of the perfume.
3
When you spray perfume on your skin for the first time, wait for about thirty seconds until alcohol evaporates. The most accurate fragrance of the perfume mixed
with your body chemistry will emerge after about 10 minutes. Then you will be able to find out what the top notes of perfume are. The top notes are highly volatile, evaporate quickly and do not last very long. Top notes will give the perfume its specific scent when it is first applied. The middle notes of a perfume will also influence the smell of the perfume for a long time, although not as long as the base notes. The base notes have a profound influence on the fragrance blend. They are very long lasting. Base notes are the scents that last the longest in a perfume. Base note essences come out 20 minutes to 2 hours after putting on the perfume. Base notes also fix other essences and give the perfume its staying power. Base notes will produce the scent that will stay the longest on your skin, which is why it is usually added first to the fragrance mixture. www.amgtt.com • NOVEMBER, 2015 • ET&T 17
