fter taking an unexpected hiatus from the entertainment industry, Soca artiste Buffy is back and ready to reclaim her place. Born Chrystal Bellille, Buffy emerged on the Soca scene in 2010 adding a much needed element to the entertainment industry. With a noticeable dancehall flavoured style, Buffy wooed many in the Caribbean entertainment industry solidifying herself as a powerhouse of talent. The singer/songwriter/performer has released a raunchy and attention grabbing track for the upcoming carnival season titled “Manwa.” Produced by Junez Productions and Optimus Productions, the zouk and creole inspired riddim is coupled with attention demanding lyrics that is certain to create a stir. Offering advice to females who are having issues keeping their male companions satisfied, Buffy paints a clear image of what men want which she labels as “rudeness.” Excited about officially being back, Bellille is humbled, “While it
was a challenge being away from one of the things I love the most, I am always moved when I receive a message from a supporter regarding my return” she shared. She added that there was/ has never been a day when a supporter did not reach out to her via social media or in person expressing their desire to see her return. The mother of two is currently in studio putting the finishing touches on her other releases and plans to drop some three more songs for Carnival 2014. Discussing the pressures that she faced when being forced to take
an unexpected retreat from the entertainment industry, Buffy admitted, “It was quite difficult not being able to do what I love but I believe that everything happens for a reason.” As many of our readers will recall, the mother of two was unable to sing and record due to vocal issues. “It was very disheartening to be told that I may not have been able to sing again but I refused to lose hope,” shared Bellille. Not wanting to dwell on the negatives that she has faced, Buffy shared that her songs which are scheduled to be released features a collaboration with London-based soca artiste Scrappy titled “Slow Wine.” Her two other projects are being done with south-based producer Jesse “Chunky” John of Optimus Productions. All in all, Bellille is excited to get back on the stage and hopes that her supporters are satisfied with the quality of music she will be releasing. Her supporters and music lovers will have an opportunity to witness different sides of her. Presently under new

Iwer to Infiltrate Christmas and More Iconic artiste speaks on plans to release parang and a follow up to Iwer Wednesday concert
N
eil ‘Iwer’ George is not just a soca veteran. He is a bona fide living legend of our local arts. An entertainment staple since the 80’s, the star (also known as D Boss) has churned out memorable hit after hit over the years. Also heralded for his business acumen, George has somehow managed to be a radio station and party boat owner among many other endeavours without spreading himself too thinly. ET&T caught up with the star to get the exclusive scoop on his latest projects. Several big soca stars have already dropped 2014 Carnival material. Iwer revealed has some tricks up his sleeve as well, but he is taking a different approach. “I have started recording material for Carnival 2k14, but before that expect a Christmas Parang
and much more. Keep it locked to the street 91.9 for more.” That will definitely be great news for fans of the big man in the business. Fans will also be pleased to know that George has plans of
revisiting his Iwer Wednesday concept. “Iwer Wednesday is on schedule to happen carnival 2014. Preparations are already in progress.” George said he will release more details about the event as it draws nearer. One event he was open to talk about is the upcoming Altruistic Benefit Cup (celebrity football tournament). He is one of the faces of the event alongside radio personality Kwesi ‘Hypa Hoppa’ Hopkinson. Iwer was keen to note his involvement in the match on Sunday 1st December which will be “All for charity.” Also, George took time to speak on the release of the popular “Iwer Riddim” which took Crop Over by storm. The song samples George’s 1994 ‘Take A Wine’ produced by Pelham God-
dard. When asked how he felt about the new incarnation of the song via the riddim Iwer was grateful. “I was entirely flattered, being that it was one of my popular songs in the mid 90’s and hearing it in up to date times and the younger artist being able to add to that legacy was special.” Speaking of Iwer back in the day, the artiste was also questioned on the possibility of him ever going back down the calypso rout as opposed to the up-tempo soca vein. He did not cancel the idea from his mind completely, but he admitted that he is all about soca currently. Keep reading ET&T for more updates on the status of Neil ‘Iwer’ George as well as all your favourite local and regional celebrities.

Chef Peru Keeps Social Media Bubbling With New Show
nigmatic, young chef Jason Peru aims to be “the ultimate television chef” all while remaining approachable and respected. Moreover, he hopes to possess an “incomparable imagination and creativity which is inspiring to everyone.” So far he has made tangible steps toward achieving those goals with several appearances on local culinary programs on various networks. Now, he has upped the ante, by teaming up with Bmobile to introduce the buzz worthy online cooking program “Bubble with Us.” The chef reveals that the venture is a collaborative effort between the mobile giant and the newly formed Fanatic Kitchen Studios. a live cooking arena & forum. Peru stated it was simply a way to showcase his love for our culinary culture to the world via the best available medium. “Bubble With Us is a play on Bmobiles’ slogan Move With Us. It’s completely interactive whereas people can log on from their computers through Blink broadband and get into the mix whilst marketing is also done
based on Social media. It is a 1530 minute pre recorded show, where we incorporate the brand champions such as Anya, KI, Jason and Blaze and more. It adds a twist of entertainment to the show, so it’s not just a cooking show. The guests get to interact with the chef and the Brand personalities as well,” he said. Usually cooking programs don’t have much longevity, but things look promising for this web series (which is the first of its kind in on this scale in Trinidad). “The show was initially agreed upon as a pilot project and based upon the response; we were given the headway to move onto season two. The show’s long term aspiration is to be debuted on Bmobile’s 4G network and then transition to Television” revealed Peru. Episodes debut every Thursday at 3:00pm with a new show every week.
Things seem to be looking up for both Fanatic Kitchen Studios and Bubble with Us ich have been steadily growing in popularity. Who knows, maybe Chef Peru will one day take his talents to Food Networks Iron Chef and make e region even prouder. Jason Peru graduated from the Trinidad & Tobago Hospitality & Tourism Institute (TTHTI) in 2004 with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Management. He was awarded three scholarships to attend Johnson & Wales University in Miami to further his education. It was there he attained his Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts & his Bachelors of Sciences Degree in Culinary Arts. He graduated with Golden Quill Honors and maintained Dean’s List Honors throughout his tenure at Johnson & Wales University.
Enaldo Offers Fresh Perspective on Art
T
hirty year old artist Enaldo Bynoe seems to possess a talent and understanding of his craft which extends way beyond his years. He is both articulate and expressive with a seemingly boundless passion for what he does. No doubt, these qualities are what make the work of this Chaguanas native special. Fresh off his latest exhibition, ET&T caught up with him to find out his key to success in a fledgling climate. Bynoe did not hesitate to take a spiritual stance in stating the rea-

son for his success thus far. “God inspires me. I can’t do anything unless I find a room to meditate and then approach my work.” He posited that even when ideas come to him at the spur of the moment it is because he is usually in a meditative zone. His “work” as he puts it comes in a variety of forms. He does everything from sculpture and pottery to acrylic paintings. His recent exhibition entitled Perspectives mainly featured his paintings. He revealed the name of the event was reflective of where he is at artistically. “I wanted to change the perspective of art. I did a lot of bright and jovial pieces each with a message behind it,” he said. Enaldo also said that he hoped his pieces would foster a new perspective on art’s place in T&T as it is currently underappreciated. “Art is still a baby in Trinidad and Tobago. Artists are either retirees with money or young ones who are broke.” However, Bynoe shared an

optimistic view urging artists to stick to their craft. “Once you value your work, people will value it.” Speaking of value, Enaldo says he has a hard time pricing his pieces, but he is grateful he has a friend who is a curator that does it for him. Even then, he sometimes thinks the curator is rating his pieces too highly. In fact, Bynoe is often open to negotiating his prices with potential buyers. With that said, Bynoe still maintains
that he does not measure his success by sales. Instead he gets personal gratification from completing projects in short time frames with big results. Until his next gallery where he plans to push the boundaries of local art, the former Brian Macfarlane understudy continues to function as tan Assistant designer/Coordinator at AbFab events. Neyo Open To Collaborations with Local Acts would have been favourable to Trinidad’s expectant stars. “I’m always down for producing good quality music and all I’ve heard so far was of good quality. I’m always up for pushing the envelope… finding a new song, so I’m more than willing to work on collabos,” he said. The possibility does not seem totally remote as Neyo has in fact switched up his style a bit to accommodate a reggae collaboration with Shaggy recently. Neyo expressed excitement at the outcome of the project with the dancehall veteran saying it
&B crooner Neyo recently visited our shores to much fanfare as part of the Red Light Concert Series event which also featured R. Kelly. Before he hit the stage, the singer was kind enough to meet with media and answer some questions. ET&T was present at the media briefing that saw Neyo acquit himself in a relaxed mode. Among the questions directed at Neyo was the possibility of him working with local artistes on a future track. The answer given by the artiste whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith
was something he had long envisioned. “It was great. Shaggy has been my friend for a good while now and we talked about working on the song and how it would have happened. It was cool for me to jump over to his side and it was exciting to pull out my reggae legs,” stated Neyo. Many in local circles have already begun assuring the odds of which celebrity would be most likely to work with Neyo should a joint venture really pop off. Whoever, that person may be, ET&T will be sure to have the inside scoop when it jumps off.

BEAUTY
Sumptuous Skin Secrets
B
eauty is in the eye of the beholder many may say and it is often based on physical beauty rather than inner beauty. Everyone wants to be beautiful and everyone can be in their own way. The first step to being beautiful is to have clear beautiful skin. Clear skin is skin that is free of any pimples, blackheads, blotches and any other marks. To help you with these problems I have some clear beautiful skin tips for you. To begin the journey you must be committed enough to stick to a skin care regime. At first it may seem tiring and boring, but to reap the results you have to do it continuously. Go to the nearest cosmetic outlet and look at the different brands that are available to you. Ask the sales representative questions about the products available for your skin. There may also be a customer buying an item at the same time, you can ask her opinion on whether the product works for her. When you find a product that works for you, stick to it and try to use all the skin care
products from the same line. Some of you may say that you have tried everything and that nothing seems to work for you, but you have to be patient. Skin care products usually take at least six weeks for results to be seen. Stick to the product for at least
12 ET&T • NOVEMBER, 2013 • www.etntweekly.com
eight weeks, if no change is seen then you can decide to change the product. However you must pay close attention to your diet, because what you put in is what you get out. Eat healthy foods and drink the recommended amount of water, which is at least eight
glasses a day. Water helps cleanse the system and gets rid of excess waste in the body. To get beautiful clear skin you must remember that if it is not clean it can never be clear. Keep your skin as clean as possible, always wash hands before touching your face especially if it is prone to breakouts. If you have acne prone skin always carry facial wipes to keep the skin clean. For the first few weeks avoid wearing makeup and keep your hair out of your face. Hair products like hair spray aggravate the skin, and even clog your pores. Do not wash your face more than two times for the day. Over washing your face stimulates your pores and causes them to produce more oil. Use your finger tips or a washcloth to wash your face; do not scrub it. Use an antibacterial soap on your face to remove any bacteria that may build up. Try to visit the spa for a facial at least once for the month. After washing apply an SPF moisturizer to keep the skin soft as well as to protect it from the sun. If you have oily skin you should still use a moisturizer. Some people have the perception that if you apply moisturizer to oily skin it will get oilier, however this is not true. There are moisturizers available for people with oily skin. Always use products that say noncomedogenic, which means that it will not clog your pores. The most important tip to remember if you have pimples is not to squeeze them. Squeezing pimples only makes them worse and they take longer to heal, not to mention the scars that they leave behind. Squeezing also spreads bacteria and causes more pimples to form on the skin. So no matter how tempting it may seem please do not squeeze them. These skin clearing tips are easy to follow and can fit into any schedule. Keep your products in the bathroom or anywhere that the eye can easily see it, so that you will not forget it. You will be surprised at the results if you just follow these simple skin clearing tips.

HOT
SEAT
Mr. Killa I enjoy biking.
ET&T: What was your greatest achievement to date? Mr. K: I came fifth in Soca Monarch 2005. I’ve received awards from New York, Canada, London and more. Also, earning the respect of the fans is a great accomplishment. Above everything I’ve accomplished my greatest achievement of all would have to be blessed with the knowledge of giving hope and inspiration to my biggest fan, a young cripple boy named Karvel, who would get up every morning and listen to Killa until he goes to bed again. He said he feels as if his life is a prison and he has no purpose on earth, but through my music he feels alive, with joy and happiness.
T
wenty-eight year old livewire Hollice Mapp aka Mr. Killa is one of the hottest musical imports from the region. Hailing from the Gouyave region of Grenada, the versatile entertainer is riding high on the success of his current ode to thick girls, Rolly Polly. He recently touched down on Trini shores and ET&T grabbed the opportunity to put him on the Hot Seat. ET&T: Where/how were you discovered? Mr. K: I started as a young lad as a reggae/ Dancehall clash artist at around the age of 10-11. I was introduced to soca twelve years ago. Reggae took some time to get into the proper market as a young artist. Then I realized the response the crowd would give to soca music, and I loved that energy, so I jumped on the soca train two years ago. ET&T: Do you really have a thing for big girls or is it limited to the song? Mr. K: My African blood has something for thick girls. Thick girls do something to me, but I love all types of women. Sometimes women have low self-esteem because of size and they look at their size as a problem. To me big girls are beautiful. God created them and I respect everything that God created. ET&T: The Rolly Polly video is off the chain, yet some people have been giving you flack deeming the lyrics in some parts offensive. What do you have to say about that? Mr. K: Why would someone get offended by me using the word fat? If society can put aside a word that’s interpreted as negative and create positivity then the way we view things would be different. Every part of the song is meant to uplift the women we term as “big-boned” and how people view certain aspects of everything in life is a mental thing and it needs to be broken down. ET&T: You are known as much for your stage antics
ET&T: Describe your dream collaboration. Mr. K: I respect so many artistes that I can’t single out any one over the other. as your vocals. Where did you develop your dance/ performance talent? Mr. K: I honestly don’t know. The music developed me. This is a talent I was born with from the father. It’s like I started walking through walls without knowing how… but I love dancing. Having African roots and having the love for it creates the soca man. ET&T: Do you think you have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Biggie Irie and become only the 2nd foreign act to win the International Soca Monarch? Mr. K: I still have a lot of things to put on the table and I still have a lot of growth to develop, but my intention is to keep on growing and reflecting my island and grow beyond boundaries. I do not want to be classified as just another soca artist, but for the world to accept me as an entertainer. ET&T: If you were to sell Grenada to the T&T public, what aspects of your home would you want to speak on?
Mr. K: The spice. Spice is unique in its flavor and aroma. It’s highly influential on the brain and senses. Grenada has that strong, unique, original flavor married to its African roots. ET&T: How does Spice Mas compare to Trinidad & Tobago Carnival? Mr. K: Trinidad and Tobago has the greatest festival in the entire world, it is second to none. The color, the vibe… the world can take a page from Trinidad and Tobago’s book. Grenada doesn’t have the magnitude as Trinidad and Tobago, but what we do have is the hardcore Jab Jab mas in its most original form. The drums and the jouvert, the true roots of what mas is supposed to be. ET&T: What does Mr. Killa do when he is not recording or performing? Mr. K: I go to church and beat drums. My mother is a Baptist so I’ve been drumming since the age of five. I also travel a lot and I tend to stay close to my culture. I occasionally play football on the beach when I get the free time and
ET&T: Do you have to deal with groupies in your homeland of Grenada? Mr. K: I cannot restrict my answer to Grenada alone. It’s worldwide! I get a lot of sexual harassment from the big women. The females love me for my charisma. I always make people laugh. Charisma balanced with intelligence completes the entertainer. ET&T: What was your most embarrassing moment? Mr. K: A fat girl jumped on me and my entire pants ‘buss’ way. ET&T: What would be your dream achievement in the next 5 years? Mr. K: Being recognized in other genres of music and being accepted as a world renowned artist. ET&T: Any parting words for readers? Mr. K: Keep the father close to your heart where he belongs. Stay away from drugs and never give up on your dreams. Know that life is a mission and everyone you meet in life is not meant to be on your mission. Stay positive and educate yourself.

The Red Light Concert Series
events
he Hasley Crawford Stadium was the venue for the highly touted concert event known T as the Red Light Concert Series. This particular Red Light event featured R&B legend R. Kelly and pop/R&B star Neyo. Top notch local entertainment came in the form of Machel and his HD band,
the Asylum Vikings and more. The ultra-inclusive event was a pricey affair and when you add bad weather to the mix, a poor turnout was the result. The event received mixed reviews from the attendees. ET&T was on sight to catch the action up close and personal.

VIP 5
he Harbour Master came alive for VIP 5. Despite the frequency of party cruises these days, this event snuck up on us and still managed to score T without any extensive promotion. Those in attendance grasped the VIP
theme and came out in star-studded style for the event. Our photographers boarded with the intention of capturing the snazzy shindig in all its glory and indeed we captured the good vibes. Check it out and see for yourself.

The Morning After
eople usually come to their senses the morning after. However, on this particuP lar morning after a lot of people seemed to
have lost their minds. Patrons who boarded the Treasure Queen for this Malice event had a crazy time as they partied into the dawn hours. As a matter of fact, we’re starting to think the morning after the Morning After would be a bit worrisome for attendees. Women galore, top of the line music and more combined to ensure this event scored on the entertainment scale. ET&T has lots more on facebook, but we’re sharing a tad here.

Carib Brewery’s Oktoberfest

events
cosmopolitan nature, Trinidad and Tobago still has a penchant for stealing other people’s festivals and making it ours. Not only did parents send their kids Trick or Treating in some parts of the country at Halloween, but we even celebrated the German sausage and ale festival Oktoberfest. Adam Smith Square became a little Germany for the mini festival which was hosted by Carib Brewery. There was a stellar turnout for the weekend-long event and ET&T made ourselves available as well. People had a time drinking and liming their troubles away while we snapped photos of them in action.

Casanova Saves Saturday R
events
enowned uptown-styled event Casanova was back at Octobers end, but with a whole new feel. The promoters decided to take the vibes to the Treasure Queen for the first time. This was surely a sign of the way the events landscape has changed in Trinidad of late. Many of those who attended still had fun amid the new settings. However, a large portion of regulars did not come out to the event. All in all, the party progressed just fine and ET&T was pleased with what we witnessed in the vicinity of Pier 2. Here are some of the pics. For more, check our facebook page.

Fright Cruise
events
rinis will use any excuse to party, so we adopted the American tradition of Halloween just for that purpose. T All over the country people dressed up in costume like
their North American counterparts to attend Halloween themed events. One such event was the boat ride Fright Cruise which was hosted aboard the Coral Vision. We have to admit that we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of many of the costumes. Plus, the vibes were relentless. Here are some of the stills.

Making the Wrong Statement W hen you make a statement it should be the right statement. You should not demand attention only to waste the time of others. After witnessing four elections in one year, many of us would be able to relate to the feeling. However, this also happens in the realm of fashion (and far too frequently if you ask us). In any event, your choice of attire should never make people second-guess your sanity. Clothing like the ensembles featured here are pronouncements of potentially good wardrobes gone awry. They tried to make a statement, but ended up giving statements to the Fashion 5 – O.
We sure hope that’s her lawyer on the phone because she just caught herself a case. The ridiculous amount of powder on her chest looks like an Ammens ad audition gone wrong. Powder on the neck is a statement that should not be made once you are no longer a toddler. Such sad times we live in.
Ok. We get it. This is this dude’s thing. He likes wearing illfitting suits to parties. However, it takes a certain level of celebrity to be able to get away with such gimmicks and he is not on that level. We won’t even bother to describe this outfit. Let’s just hope those shades he is wearing helped him get past the shame.
