Celebrities Share Valentines Love
wise man once said that the best thing about Valentine’s Day is that if you don’t have a lover, you badly remember to get one. Global statistics shows that on Valentine’s Day, spending amounts to $13.19 billion, 180 million cards are exchanged, 196 million roses produced, and yes, 11000 children are conceived. While cards, candy, flowers and dining out remain popular choices, local celebrities here in T&T give their insight into what they would like for Valentine’s Day and send some special wishes.
Soca star Chucky Gordon would like to send Valentine’s Day greetings to his female relatives inclusive of his mom, two aunties and sister as they are a “major source of support and inspiration.” He says that he would love a new phone for Valentine’s Day, as his current one doesn’t store conversations.
Stephanie Ramlogan, personal fashion stylist and recent costume designer for the upcoming Carnival band Passion, sends Valentine’s Day wishes to all her
friends who got engaged and are busy planning weddings. She says “For Valentine’s day I definitely appreciate something spontaneous. Not necessarily a bought gift, but some unexpected thoughtful action like a boat ride or to go ride horses.”
Vimalesh Subeeksingh is a pilot in training and male model, building his image with Mon De Bleu, a new fashion trend by an upcoming designer Leo Star. He would like to send Valentines wishes to “all the beautiful, single and independent ladies of Trinidad and Tobago.” He states that as fast paced as things are in life with studying and doing different things, “a nice get away from the busy life would be awesome…just my significant other and I.”

He laments that his life is a bit of an “anomaly”, as his international cricket career that demands constant training and touring has led to these significant days being “swept under the rug.” But he gives us some great

Bollywood Star Sunidhi Chauhan
To Light Up Chutney Brass
hutney Brass 2014 will be bara aura behatara. With its new title sponsor Super Industrial Services Limited, the world’s biggest East Indian music event boasts of spectacular new surprises. The show will feature Bollywood’s biggest female superstar, Sunidhi Chauhan. Described as the modern version of Asha Bhosle, Chauhan is best known for her “lively and foot-tapping” numbers. She appears alongside the best in the local industry, including Dil E Nadan, Karma, JMC 3 Veni, BMERZ, Melo Bugz, Gayatones and the new band SIS Fusion Factory. Patrons can look forward to a grand food court and full service bars, stocked with East Indian Cuisine, local and international favorites from T&T’s top food vendors, premium alco-
holic drinks and fresh fruit juices. Chauhan is in high demand throughout the Caribbean and has a hectic schedule touring England, Australia and the Far East. But Randy Glasgow Promotions has obtained exclusive rights for her performances during the Car-
nival season. CEO Randy Glasgow states that the investment to bring Chauhan to T&T will give “exposure to chutney music to a wider cross section of the international music community.” Also, he believes the move will entice more tourists to attend the show and stay for the Carnival season. In previous years, Chutney Brass has attracted patrons from Japan, Spain, Holland, England, Australia, Guyana, Suriname, St Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, Canada and the US. He expects that many of her fans will come to T&T as she will not be performing in any of those countries in the near future. Chauhan’s career began at the age of four and she is now credited with over 2000 Bollywood film songs. She has been nominated for a number of awards
and won several, including Filmfare, Star Screen, IIFA, Zee Cine, Kelvinator GR8! FLO Women and the Chevrolet Global Indian Music Award. Off screen, Chauhan sang the Windows Vista Song for Microsoft and collaborated with Enrique Iglesias, on a song titled “Heartbeat.” She performed at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games and sang for the Hindi-dubbed version of High School Musical. She appeared as a judge on Indian Idol and released her first single in the Electronic Dance Music genre in 2013. So T&T fans will be in for a real treat from Chauhan on February 22 at Guaracara Park, Point-a-Pierre, whose voice has been described as “powerful, amazing, husky and sensuous.”
FETE PRICES UNRAVELLED G
one are the days when we could afford to hit all the fetes with gay abandonment. This rounds the dollar is being watched with a fine tooth comb and every penny counts. Over the years Carnival as an entity has become more and more commercialized and as such the opportunity cost is an increase in the costs of everything carnival related. That said, one must now decide what fetes to go too based on ultimate vybe potential and cost effectiveness. Of course the goal is value for money so as a smart feter you’d want to know if you’re getting value for money. It’s been said on countless occasions that fete prices are robbery to the nation. So we at ET&T decided to get the scoop for you so you know whether or not it’s worth it to sacrifice your hard earned cash. We got insight into production costs for the cooler fete and the all-inclusive. Carnival is a business first and foremost. As a feter you may only see the party aspect of the
2
event but there are two sides to a coin. The cooler fete incurs a few costs that include: venue rental, security, stage and Av equipment, light, minimal décor and let’s not forget why you went in the first place, the artistes. Of course these costs are easily covered as patrons flock in their thousands to these events. The biggest cost may be to the artistes whose rate goes from $15,000 and upwards and that’s just for
ET&T • FEBRUARY, 2014 • www.etntweekly.com
a half hour and we haven’t even considered their full band. A cooler fete’s price ranges from $250- $375 if you get our tickets on time. These days they are selling like rare gold with patrons willing to pay $1000 at the door just to get in on the action. Yes you read correctly! The goal of the event is to incur a profit but one may ask why pay $350 and still have to bring yuh own drinks? Apparently people like the option to conjure up their own spirits. On the other hand, an all-inclusive takes on an even greater burden to production costs. According to Kenrick Harrinauth President of QRC’s old boys Association there is a lot that goes into an all-inclusive that the public may not be privy to. Allinclusive fete prices now range from $700 to $1200. The difference in cost is simply the experience because you can get the same artistes, food and drinks at a $700 all-inclusive that would be at one costing $1200. Apart
from basic set up costs for the event along with artiste fees, food and drink can be quite a burden on your event budget. An all-inclusive must ensure that they have a consistent supply of food and drinks throughout the event. This can be quite a task as some patrons come with the intent to buss the bar and eat all the food. As patrons dine and enjoy themselves it is also their duty to ensure that all structures put in place are OSHA certified. Suppliers must also be certified and properly licensed. The event itself needs a license and it has now become proper event protocol to possess event insurance which costs well within the millions. Fetes are big money and some actually try to limit costs to patrons and still incur profits. There are still a few that shall remain unnamed that try to bleed you dry. However, despite the varying costs involved that cause the prices to increase, choose wisely as not every fete has your best interest at heart.

here has been much consternation about the price of fete tickets this year, especially all- inclusive ticket prices. However, all-inclusive fete fans have something to smile about in the form of the popular Nikki Land. Conceptualized by comedienne Nikki Crosby, this popular children-themed event costs a mere $150.00, but it provides almost all the trappings of a regular allinclusive event. The action takes place on Sunday 9th February 2014 from 1:00pm-5:00pm at the Center of Excellence Car Park, Macoya. While Nikkiland is aimed
at entertainment for kids, there will be enough action to satisfy the older heads as well. The entertainment provided will rival any of the adult-oriented events as the show will boast performances by Bunji, Fay Ann, Destra, Benjai, Patrice, Farmer Nappy, Blaxx, Olatunji, 5 Star Akil and more! Apart from the stars from Socaland, there will be culinary fare fit for both kids and the young at heart with KFC, hotdogs, drinks, snacks, ice cream, lollies, sno-cones, cotton candy and more on hand. The venue will be trans-
formed into Mas Land as well with several popular kid-friendly characters such as Dora, Elmo, Barbie, Shrek and more mingling with the children in the party atmosphere. There will also be face painting and body art available. This year, Nikkiland will also introduce Babesland (No, not that kind of babes). It is a section specially prepared for toddlers. The rest of the kids and those who wish to relive their youth can take part in the atmosphere at Playland. There will be a selection of rides and games such as go-carts, bouncy castles, chair
planes, rock climbing, obstacle courses, pony rides and more! As usual, the promoters promise good, wholesome family fun with safety at the forefront of the proceedings. Nikkiland promises the full all-inclusive experience for a fraction of the price and without the barriers of exclusion. Are you ready to relive your inner child?

evon Moses, aka Fadda Moses is coming off a bumper 2013. Now, the rising star is promising that things are only going to get wetter in Carnival 2014 and beyond. In the midst of all the entertainment action, the entertainer recently became a father last month and ET&T caught up with him for a Chit Chat.
ET&T: So far what year has been your best? MOSES: My best year has to be 2013 hands down. ET&T: Has anyone ever told you they thought a Jamaican sang Sample? MOSES: Oh yes! I get that a lot!
ET&T: Congrats on the newest member of your family. How does it make you feel? MOSES: Blessed and proud to be a dad
ET&T: Tell us something about your dancer who performs the song. MOSES: Her name is Shana. She was born in Canada, but lived in Trinidad all her life. Dancing is her passion and I believe she will go very far doing such.
ET&T: Are you presently working on anything new? MOSES: Yes I am always working on new material, it keep the momentum and creative juices flowing. I just dropped my carnival bomb at the end of January. Just get ready to get wet.
ET&T: Who gave you the name Fadda Moses? MOSES: Well my surname is actually Moses and friends just added in the father for whatever reason and it stuck ever since I knew myself.
ET&T: How long have you been in the industry? MOSES: Since 2006. ET&T: Are there any artistes you would like to or are dying to work with? MOSES: I’m willing to work with any established or upcoming artiste, but off the top of my head Kerwin Dubois, the Mighty Shadow and Machel Montano. ET&T: Can you name some of the fetes we can see you in? MOSES: I have been booked for quite a few fetes in February also for a Carnival show in Guyana in February' also not sure of names and dates. Management has all that information ET&T: As a father what best advice can you offer to others? MOSES: To all the young fathers especially, buying milk and pampers is not all in minding your child, be there for them
teach them, spend time with them and support their mom no matter if the relationship did not work out. ET&T: With all the crime that has been taking place, do you think it would hamper the season? MOSES: Yes it will definitely hamper the peace of mind of the revelers and may also affect turnout in some instances. ET&T: Do you feel parents are neglecting passing on moral values to their children? MOSES: Yes, but some parents nowadays were never taught
moral values in the first place, so they have nothing of positive substance to pass on to their kids. ET&T: What are your views on lost talent in Trinidad and Tobago? MOSES: I don’t agree with the term "lost." I think they just have not figured their path to success as yet. ET&T: Are you doing anything else besides entertaining? MOSES: Well I am an electrical technician, but of late music is consuming a lot of my time. However, when I can I continue to do that trade.
ET&T: Tell us something the public doesn't know about you. MOSES: I talk to myself a lot and sometimes answer (lol). ET&T: Is there anyone you want to give thanks to for your achievements thus far? MOSES: Thank God for giving me life in the first place to do what I do, then my mom and dad. Also to my management team, producers I’ve worked with and to all of my fans… nuff thanks and blessings to you all. ET&T: Is there anything else you would like to share with your fans? MOSES: Look out for a lot more from Moses in the near future.

The soca bard is without a doubt one of the most consistent forces in the industry over the last three years and ET&T wanted to know a little bit about the man behind the music and his methods for creating hits and staying successful. ET&T: What is the best perk of being an entertainer? KDB: To be quite honest, I do not consider any of the privileges that artistes are given to be perks but opportunities. Being able to travel the world and make people happy through music definitely it for me. You see that moment when people are willing to stop whatever they are doing to sing along or dance is something that I really cherish. ET&T: What is your favourite thing about Carnival? KDB: The vibe…It is different here in Trinidad and Tobago and everywhere else. The energy that Caribbean people have is astonishing to say the least. The fact that I get to see people let go and let loose is one thing that I really do enjoy. ET&T: What led you to migrate? KDB: It was the opportunity to expand my musical knowledge. Sometimes we have to take risks and go after the opportunities that we want. ET&T: You are known as a prolific soca writer/ 16

Of course, as time progresses you never know what would happen as far as other genres are concerned, we will just have to wait and see. The only thing I’ve done outside of Soca is a track called “I Sea Lots”, which was sung by Machel Montano & Morgan Heritage. ET&T: Which of your releases this year did you feel the most confident about? KDB: Anyone who knows me and my creative process will attest to the fact that if I am not confident about my music I would never release it. What I am trying to say is that I was confident about all my releases, but if you want me to
pick out some I would say Press a button, Too Real and Forget about it. I felt that every track had an element that would resonate in the heart and mind of the masses. ET&T: What was your most memorable performance and what made it stand out? KDB: This seat is getting hotter you know. To be honest every time I step on stage a new memory is created. I do not think that there is one specific moment that could come to mind at this point in time. I feel you will have to check me back and ask that question again after some more time has passed. ET&T: If you had to watch any of your soca peers in concert who would it be and why? KDB: Hands down it would be David Rudder simply because of his wealth of experience, his vibe
ET&T: Considering the current crime and road accident climate. Do you think artistes should be more socially responsible with their messages? KDB: Consideration should be given to the type of messages we put out because there is extreme power in our words. People look up to us so therefore they listen and we must be careful what we incite, but at the same time the onus is not on us only. It’s like a parent trying to tell a child what to do, at the end of the day that child is going to do whatever he or she wishes; you can make the child, but not their mind. ET&T: Which makes you happiest? Food, sex or money? KDB: I would say food *laughs*…. I mean which man does not enjoy sex, but in order to perform at my best and to earn money I have to be well nourished. So this food situation is serious and I do not play when it comes to eating. ET&T: Your personal credo. KDB: I will give you one because I know we do not have space for my list. I believe and support something that the great Nelson Mandela said and that is “A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.”

T&T was In Full View of all the action at this epic E event and we were not disappointed. People in the south side really know how to party and it was
evident when the rain came pouring down and it did nothing to stop the vibes. Patrons enjoyed a plethora of free cocktails, shots and more in great ambiance, while entertainers such as Kes, and 5 Star Akil kept the crowd moving.

Feting Fashion Fails
all for feting and having a time. However, this must be done responsibly. No excessive drinking and for Pete’s sake faux pas. Look at these recent fails. Wenoarefashion You think it’s okay to party the night away barefoot huh? Well, you’re wrong. Fashion is functional. Wear shoes that feel comfortable. Having to take off your footwear to party is a no-no. Not to mention it is unhygienic and unsafe. It’s a good thing we saw you in the background and saved you from doing yourself more harm.
You like and feel confident about your body so you wear clothing that shows it off. However, your open back top also exposes the fact you chose to wear a bra with visible straps. It may not hurt anyone else, but it is not fashion forward. Therefore, the squad is forced to do their duty.
This is nothing short of a travesty. There are so many components to this outfit and they do not work together. Not only is the outfit mismatched, but there are also other fundamental fashion flaws to take into account. Stockings with leggings, a reptile-skin belt with mismatched boots and a white and green dress that altogether looks like an ad for outpatient swag. Sigh!

Wendy Williams
Name: Wendy Joan Williams Age: 49 (July 18, 1964) Profession: Talk show host, actress, author, radio personality. Claim to Fame: Wendy Williams spent 20 years as a popular radio host in New York and Philadelphia before making it on television as the host of her own daytime talk show. A New Jersey native and graduate of Northeastern University (1986), Williams
got her start in Boston radio as an intern. After stints in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington, D.C., she landed in New York in 1989, where she gradually gained an audience for her sass-and-brass approach to regular callers and celebrity interviews. Williams called herself the "Queen of Radio" and her indiscreet personal questions put to celebrities brought her fame as the creator of awkward
movies
Valentines Movies V
alentine’s Day usually ends up with couples enjoying dinner and a movie. With the current economic recession, some might even skip the dinner. Now that emphasis is on movies, here are two options that are just right for the occasion.
About Last Night A modern reimagining of the classic romantic comedy, this contemporary version closely follows new love for two couples as they journey from the bar to the bedroom and are eventually put to the test in the real world. The original version in 1986 starred James Belushi, Rob Lowe and Demi Moore. This version
takes an ethnic twist and features Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Paula Patton and more.

The story follows a burglar who falls for an heiress as she dies in his arms. When he learns that he has the gift of reincarnation, he sets out to save her. but compelling radio. Her radio show, The Wendy Williams Experience, was formatted for a VH-1 television series in 2006, and in 2009 she left the radio business behind for cable daytime television. Part RuPaul and part Oprah, her hosting job on The Wendy Williams Show includes commentary on celebrity gossip, talk of the ups and downs of daily life and occasional heartfelt in-
terviews with celebrities. Wendy Williams also appeared as a contestant in the 12th season of Dancing With the Stars (2011). Wendy Williams had a catchphrase on radio, "How ya' doin'?", that was originally used to insinuate that a celebrity was homosexual; she kept the catchphrase for her television show, but stopped using it in that context... Williams was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2009.
