Orchestra
The Primary Orchestra is getting ready for their first performance. They will be playing during all the performances of the Primary Performing Arts Showcase during Week Five. That’s both Lower and Upper Primary performances, and both the matinees and evening performances. That’s a lot of playing!
Mr. O’Connor is very pleased at the progress the orchestra has been making. He aims to make the orchestra an important part of the Primary Prize Giving Ceremony as well.
As there is so much music to get through, orchestra will be starting their rehearsals at the start of Period 5 this term. So their rehearsal will go from 12.10 to 1.15 giving them much more time to rehearse all their pieces.
Friendship Bench
The Friendship Bench is a new initiative here at ACG Sunderland. This has been in the making for some time. The Friendship Bench is a tool for positive mental and emotional health used in various settings. At ACG Sunderland the Friendship Bench may also be known as a buddy bench and is a special place in our playground where a child can go when they want someone to talk to. This Friendship Bench is distinctively different from other seating in the playground and may was specially designed by Write On Signs. Our bench is situated in an open and well travelled area of the school so that any child using the bench will be noticed quickly
When a student feels the need for a friend to talk to, he or she can show this by using the friendship bench. Other children and staff will recognise this as a sign that some help, support or comfort is needed and will come to talk with the child.
The friendship bench is a means by which a child can seek support without the need to rationalise their feelings or to seek out a particular member of staff or special friend. Because the bench is in the day to day environment of the school it can be used at any break time and for any reason from seemingly trivial matters to more serious concerns and encourages children to ask for help when they are troubled.
We are very excited to have our special bench and think it looks terrific too. We look forward to supporting all the children who may use it.

College Talent Show - 2022
For the first time in a couple of years we were able to have a College Talent Show. There was great variety, from magic to comedy, piano to guitar, singers and bands and veena to violin. Special congratulations to the overall winners “Adi Misa and the Men” with their impressive renditions of “Buddy Holly” by Weezer and “Creep” by Radiohead. And well done to everyone who took to the stage and showed us what they can do!
