ACG School Jakarta: Reflecting on a Remarkable Year and Looking Forward to a New Beginning

As we close the chapter on the 2023-2024 academic year, we reflect with pride and joy on the many accomplishments and memorable moments that have defined this period. ACG School Jakarta has been a vibrant hub of activity, learning, and growth, and we are excited to share some highlights as we look forward to welcoming new and returning families and students in the upcoming academic year.

Welcome and Wellbeing

The year began with the ACG Community Welcome, a heartwarming event that set a positive tone for the months ahead. Orientation sessions for new and returning faculty members ensured a smooth start, fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration from the outset. This aligns with Inspired’s Pillar of Excellence in "Welcome and Wellbeing," ensuring that everyone feels a sense of belonging and support.

According to the Council of International Schools (CIS), “A welcoming environment promotes a positive school culture, essential for student well-being and academic success. ”

Myles D’Airelle

Academic Excellence

The Science Fair highlighted our students' curiosity and ingenuity through innovative projects and experiments. Meanwhile, Literacy Week engaged students in activities that enhanced their reading and writing skills, enriching their academic experience. According to Cambridge International, “Encouraging inquiry-based learning and critical thinking is vital for students’ intellectual growth and academic success. ” This mirrors Inspired’s emphasis on "Academic Excellence," promoting a rigorous and inspiring educational experience. Our students gained invaluable experience in diplomacy and international relations at Model United Nations (MUN) conferences in Bangkok. They also excelled in various academic competitions, including mathematics and the World Scholars Cup at Yale, showcasing their intellectual prowess. The Council of International Schools (CIS) supports such engagement, noting that "participation in international events prepares students for global citizenship and broadens their perspectives."

Performing Arts

Our students' talents shone brightly during the Semester 1 Recital, where they showcased their musical and dance abilities. This event was a testament to their hard work and dedication, supported by our exceptional teachers. The seniors also enjoyed a memorable Prom Night, celebrating their achievements and looking forward to new adventures. These activities underscore Inspired’s focus on "Performing Arts" as a means to enhance creativity, confidence, and self-expression

A highlight of Semester 2 was the spectacular performance of "Arabian Nights." Students captivated the audience with their portrayals of beloved characters such as Ali Baba, the Sultan, and the Genie. The performance was a resounding success, showcasing the creative and artistic talents of our students The International Baccalaureate (IB) emphasizes the importance of the arts, stating, "Artistic experiences are essential to student development, fostering creative expression and critical thinking."

Sports and Physical Wellbeing

One of the standout events was the House Olympiad, where students from all grades participated in spirited competitions. This event not only encouraged teamwork and sportsmanship but also strengthened our school spirit, leaving lasting memories for all involved. As stated by the IB, “Engagement in collaborative activities cultivates the spirit of teamwork and cooperation, essential skills for personal and academic success. ” This reflects Inspired’s commitment to fostering "Sports and Physical Wellbeing" as a critical element of holistic education. The Swim Carnival was another exciting event, with students demonstrating their swimming skills and competing with great enthusiasm. Highlights included the Non-Dive Freestyle races and the Biggest Splash competition, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition among students. Additionally, our teams participated in ASAC tournaments, showcasing their athletic talents on a broader stage. As Cambridge states, “Physical activity plays a crucial role in students' overall development and academic performance.”

Cultural and Community Engagement

We celebrated significant cultural events with enthusiasm, including Indonesian Independence Day, Batik Day, Hari Nasional Guru (Teacher Appreciation Day), and Pi Day. These celebrations fostered a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and traditions within our school community. Collaborations with organizations like Yayasan Benyamin Suaeb introduced our students to Betawi cultural arts such as Gambang Kromong, Tari Betawi, and Pencak Silat, enriching their cultural awareness and appreciation. As highlighted by the IB curriculum, “Celebrating cultural diversity enriches the educational experience and fosters mutual respect and understanding among students.”

House System and Community

We are proud to announce that the new House Champions are the Cicaks. Their outstanding performance and team spirit throughout the year earned them this well-deserved title. Congratulations to all members of the Cicaks house! This achievement underscores the essence of Inspired’s Pillar of "House System and Community."

Farewell and Best Wishes

As we bid farewell to this remarkable year, we extend our heartfelt wishes to the Year 11 students as they await their IGCSE exam results in August and to the Year 13 students for their IB results in July and future university studies. Your hard work and perseverance have been inspiring, and we are confident you will achieve great success in your future endeavours. With the conclusion of this academic year, we wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable break. To those who are leaving our school, we bid you a fond farewell and the best of luck in your future endeavours.

MESSAGE FROM IB DIPLOMA COORDINATOR

Dear ACG Parents, Students, and Families,

Another extremely busy term comes to a close!

On Saturday, 8 June 2024, we farewelled our wonderful Year 13 cohort, who have been my first full IB group in ACG School Jakarta. This is our first ‘post lockdown’ cohort to graduate, and we are all extremely grateful that we were able to teach face to face for their entire program. We are eagerly awaiting their official IB results, which will be released in early July.

All Year 13s will be shared a unique code which will allow them access to their IB results online. This will be emailed to them next week. I would like to extend my thanks to all of our students and families for their dedication and support over the last 2 years. It was a lovely graduation ceremony and we will miss all of them.

Considering the number of them who I’ve seen at school after their exams and graduation, it may be mutual! We wish them all the best in their future studies and please keep in touch.

Kieran Pascoe

Our Year 12 students have successfully completed their first year of the IB programme. We’ve been impressed with the growth and development of all our senior students, who will now become the leaders of the school next academic year. I’d like to congratulate Sarah and Troy for being selected as the student heads for next year, and I’m confident they’ll do a wonderful job. After having a nice relax and recovering from a very long year, it would be advantageous for all of our Diploma students to return to school in August with a complete Extended Essay and TOK Exhibition draft. There are many deadlines and assessments in Year 13, so having these tasks completed early will help to reduce their stress and workload.

I’ve been busy meeting with all of our Year 11 students who are joining our IB programme next academic year, to help guide them choosing the best programme and subject choices for their strengths and future ambitions. It is looking like a strong cohort and our IB numbers are increasing each year, which is great to see!

We have some of our DP teachers departing our school and I’d like to express my gratitude for their dedication and support in my time at ACG. It was a significant challenge transitioning from online to face to face school, and they’ve done an amazing job supporting and teaching our students, as well as supporting Myles and I We understand that many are moving back to their home countries for family reasons, and that is a part of international life. I wish them all the best and hope to see them all again one day!

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday everyone and see you back next academic year!
