We are building the right hospital for Nantucket. Our new hospital will transform the patient experience by enhancing privacy and safety, increasing access to our providers, and incorporating new technology throughout the building. It also creates the foundation for our future by providing new opportunities to expand services and attract the best clinicians. These designs honor the architectural heritage of Nantucket, while also reflecting the quality medical care that is provided inside. The site for the new hospital is located at the back of the current 57 Prospect Street location.

Boston Pops on Nantucket 2016 • Nantucket Cottage Hospital

It is roughly 106,000 square feet, slightly larger than the existing hospital and outbuildings.

Main Entrance

Maximizing Our Existing Site The site plan we have developed for our property at 57 Prospect Street will maximize the hospital’s current location, and allow us to continue operating the current facility during construction. To create a viable construction site for the new hospital, several buildings on the NCH property will be moved this fall. The Founders Building will be relocated to hospital-owned property at 10 Vesper Lane. The Anderson Building and medical offices will be moved to the northeast end of the hospital property along Prospect Street. The old nurses dorm building will be donated and moved offsite or demolished.

Timeline Early 2016: Submit plans for state and local permitting processes Mid-2016: Complete final designs Fall 2016: Raise 90% of funds needed for building costs through private donations Early 2017: With approvals in-hand, construction begins 2018: Construction completed, followed by occupancy of new building

For more than a century, Nantucket Cottage Hospital has been sustained by the support of our island community. That tradition continues today as the money for the new hospital is coming from donations with no tax-payer dollars. As we embark on our largest and most ambitious project to-date, the community has once again come together and responded with an outpouring of generosity. A project more than five years in the making, our new hospital has been a true community effort. Thank you! Join the hundreds of Nantucketers who have already generously donated to this historic project by visiting nantuckethospital.org/newbuilding or call (508) 825-8250. Let’s build it together.

Message from the President

Message from the Chairs

Greetings and welcome to the 20th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket concert! It’s hard to believe for two decades this amazing event has brought the entire island community together to support its hospital. I still vividly remember my first year as a full-time member of the medical staff of Nantucket Cottage Hospital working in the emergency department in 1999, and pitching in to help prepare the food for the Pops concert in our very own cafeteria! We’ve come a long way since then, and the Boston Pops on Nantucket has become an institution on the island as well as an indispensable source of support for our hospital. But it’s more than just our largest fundraiser of the year. The event is truly an expression of who we are as a hospital and as a community — welcoming, inclusive and caring. Having 7,000 of our friends, neighbors and visitors come together on Jetties Beach to support Nantucket Cottage Hospital is gratifying in a way that is difficult to express. But to put it simply, your presence here tonight helps us fulfill our mission to provide quality health care to the island community, and navigate the complex challenges of sustaining a small, rural hospital, 30 miles out to sea. I want to thank all the volunteers and staff, some who have been with us for all 20 years, who help make this event such a success, and recognize the visionaries who foresaw what this night could mean for our island. So please sit back and enjoy the 20 th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket! Sincerely,

This year we are marking the 20 th anniversary of this beloved Nantucket summer tradition in celebration and support of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Quality health care on an island 30 miles out to sea should not be taken for granted, and your presence here tonight helps to sustain Nantucket Cottage Hospital throughout the year, providing the critical safety net for our community. For 20 years, the Boston Pops on Nantucket has been a special night for the island, not only because of what it does for the hospital, but also the opportunity it provides for everyone to come together for an evening of extraordinary entertainment. Tonight we all have the privilege of listening to a group of musicians known affectionately as “America’s Orchestra.” The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart will be joined this evening by our special musical guest, multi-platinum artist and two-time Grammy winner Kenny Loggins. Against the spectacular backdrop of Jetties Beach and Nantucket Sound, it promises to be a night to remember. We are honored to serve as chairs of the 2016 edition of the Boston Pops on Nantucket and help steward this great tradition for yet another year. We also want to recognize the many volunteers who give their time to make this event a success, as well as the support of our major underwriters, including presenting sponsors Jill and Stephen Karp, Fidelity Investments, and Real Simple. Thank you for joining us tonight, and please enjoy the 20 th Boston Pops on Nantucket! Sincerely,

Margot Hartmann, MD, PhD President & CEO, Nantucket Cottage Hospital 4

Keith Lockhart, Conductor

Having celebrated his twentieth anniversary as Boston Pops Conductor in 2015, Keith Lockhart is the second longesttenured conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra since its founding in 1885. He took over as conductor in 1995, following John Williams’s thirteen-year tenure from 1980 to 1993; Mr. Williams succeeded the legendary Arthur Fiedler, who was at the helm of the orchestra for nearly fifty years. During his tenure, Keith Lockhart has significantly expanded the orchestra’s programming, focused on national annual touring, and participated in major media events. He has solidified the Pops’s place in the fabric of the New England community and has led the Boston Pops in countless performance situations. The list of more than 250 guest artists with whom he has collaborated is a virtual “who’s who” of performers and pop culture icons. Keith Lockhart has conducted more than 1,700 Boston Pops concerts, most of which have taken place during the orchestra’s spring and holiday seasons in Boston’s historic Symphony Hall. Mr. Lockhart has also led annual Boston Pops appearances at Tanglewood, forty national tours to 134 cities in 33 states, and four international tours to Japan and Korea. He and the Pops have participated in such high-profile sporting events as Super Bowl XXXVI, the 2008 NBA finals, the 2013 Boston Red Sox Ring Ceremony, and the Red Sox Opening Day game at Fenway Park in 2009. The annual July 4 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular — which drew a live audience of approximately 500,000 in 2015 — was featured on national network television through 2013; the first-ever Boston Pops webcast in 2014 brought the event to 1.3 million music fans worldwide. Mr. Lockhart has led eight albums on the RCA Victor/BMG Classics label, including two — The Celtic Album and The Latin Album — that earned Grammy nominations. Recent releases on Boston Pops Recordings include The Red Sox Album, A Boston Pops Christmas – Live from Symphony Hall, and The Dream Lives On: A Portrait of the Kennedy Brothers — featuring narrators Robert De Niro, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, and Cherry Jones — which was a Boston Pops commission premiered in 2010 during the orchestra’s 125th season. Perhaps the most significant key to Keith Lockhart’s success is his ability to connect passionately with audiences through his engaging programs, his commitment to speaking directly from the stage with fascinating insights into the music, and his inherent understanding of the importance of what sets the Pops experience apart from a traditional orchestra concert — an atmosphere of music-making that is both fun and entertaining for music lovers of all ages. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, Keith Lockhart began his musical studies with piano lessons at the age of seven. He holds degrees from Furman University and Carnegie Mellon University, and honorary doctorates from several American universities. Visit keithlockhart.com for further information.

Kenny Loggins, Special Guest Photo: Stephen Morales

Kenny Loggins’ remarkable four-decade-plus career has brought him from the top of the charts to the toast of the Grammys. He’s had smash hits on Hollywood’s favorite soundtracks, rocked worldwide stages, and found his way into children’s hearts while bringing his smooth, beautiful voice to platinum albums of a stunning variety of genres. During the 1970s, Loggins was one half of the prolific recording and touring duo Loggins and Messina. Their first album, Kenny Loggins With Jim Messina Sittin’ In, came out in 1971, featuring Loggins’ own version of “Pooh Corner” and the beautiful ballad “Danny’s Song,” which he’d written when his brother’s wife gave birth to the couple’s first child. “That was the beginning of his family,” Loggins remembers, “and many of those lyrics were taken right from a letter he wrote me.” The duo released a studio album every year from 1971 to 1976, wrapping with Native Sons. The time had come for Loggins to embark on a solo career. In the 1980s, Loggins earned a new title: king of the movie soundtrack. Film producer Jon Peters called him in to see a rough cut of Caddyshack, and Loggins provided the cult classic’s smash “I’m Alright.” When a pal asked Loggins to write a few songs for an as-yet-unmade picture called Footloose, he whipped up a No. 1 blockbuster: “I had a little up-tempo thing I’d been messing with that I probably wouldn’t have written if it hadn’t have been for the movie,” Loggins says. He scored a track on Tom Cruise’s Top Gun (“Playing With the Boys”) and performed that movie’s indelible hit “Danger Zone.” While Loggins continued to record albums that were deeply personal and introspective (from 1985’s Vox Humana to 1988’s Back to Avalon), he also began looking outward, contributing to 1985’s landmark charity single “We Are the World.” “I was fortunate that Michael Jackson and I had become friends, so he invited me to join in,” Loggins says. “It was a long night, and there was a really good vibe in the room.” Several years later, Loggins — a deeply committed environmentalist with a long history of advocating for the planet and green parenting — wrote a passionate plea for change called “Conviction of the Heart” that appeared on his 1991 album Leap of Faith. The song was so powerful, it caught the ear of Al Gore, who later called it the “unofficial anthem of the environmental movement.” Though he’s got 12 platinum albums, a pair of Grammys, and hits on almost all the Billboard charts under his belt, Loggins is far from done. With a children’s book in the works, he’s still looking forward to what’s next. “I feel very lucky that this is the way I make my living, and not a lot of people can say that,” Loggins says. “I’ve been lucky that I love what I do and I get to keep doing it.”

1997 Boston Pops on Nantucket Twenty years ago a small group of volunteers came together to try to do something big for Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Led by a dedicated hospital supporter, the late Kathryn Clauss, they imagined what seemed impossible: what if we could get the world-famous Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra to come to Nantucket? Along with a few tireless advocates on the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Board of Trustees, including Margaretta Andrews and Charles Balas, Clauss brought the hospital community together to raise funds and popular support for the idea. Somehow, they pulled it off. Proceeds from the first event totaled $585,000 and were used to purchase a cardiac rehabilitation unit and defibrillators that were distributed around the island. Twenty years later, the annual Boston Pops on Nantucket at Jetties Beach is the largest and most beloved event of the summer on Nantucket that directly supports the operations of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. DID YOU KNOW: The legendary John Williams conducted The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra on Nantucket in 1997. 1998 Boston Pops on Nantucket In 1998, a relatively unknown 38-year-old named Keith Lockhart conducted the Boston Pops on Nantucket for the first time. Lockhart was making waves in the music world after taking the reins from legendary conductor John Williams as the head of one of the most beloved orchestras in the country. Lockhart is now a veteran of nearly two decades of conducting the Boston Pops on Nantucket, and he recently told N Magazine that his favorite part of the annual event on the island is his view from the stage. “We’re thrilled to be a part of it, and thrilled to be doing great things for Nantucket Cottage Hospital. What stays in my mind, though, is the incredible beauty of the setting. It’s great music in a sublime place.“ DID YOU KNOW: In 1998, a remarkable 12,000 tickets were sold to the event! Since then, the number of tickets has been limited to 7,000 to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the guests. Special Guests: Soloist Sgt. Daniel Clark, Gold Medalist A.J. 1999 Boston Pops on Nantucket The first years of the event in the late 1990s were marked by widespread community generosity and volunteerism, as hundreds of island residents came together to make the concert a reality. Everyone from kids to the hospital’s own doctors played a role in pulling it off. That tradition continues to this day, as a loyal corps of volunteers assist in making the Boston Pops on Nantucket a success every year. In 1999, one of those volunteers included a new physician who had just joined Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s medical staff: Dr. Margot Hartmann. As the head of the emergency department, Dr. Hartmann quickly discovered that one unexpected duty of her new job was helping to prepare the food for the Boston Pops on Nantucket in the hospital’s kitchen! Today, Dr. Hartmann serves as Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s President and CEO, and can speak from experience about the vital role the volunteers play in pulling it off each year. DID YOU KNOW: In 1999, Tommy Hilfiger presented the Nantucket High School a cappella singers The Accidentals and Naturals to sing the National Anthem. Mr. Hilfiger also sponsored a fly-over by the United States Coast Guard. Special Guests: Robert Honeysucker and Five O’Clock Shadow Hosts: Natalie Jacobsen and the late Chet Curtis

2000 Boston Pops on Nantucket In 2000, Richard Hayman and Peter Nero conducted the Esplanade Orchestra together on Nantucket. At the time, Nero was entering his third decade with Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, where he served as Music Director and Conductor. Richard Hayman was the Principal Pops Conductor of the Saint Louis and Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. Longtime sponsors Jill and Stephen Karp have looked forward to each summer’s Pops on Nantucket for decades. “What I think is really fabulous about this event is that it can be for the infants in their mothers’ arms, all the way up to the elderly who have to walk in with some help,” said Jill. “Once you are there, it soothes the soul for all of us. It’s just amazing.” DID YOU KNOW: Every year, the musicians in the orchestra are only on Nantucket for about six hours. They arrive via ferry with their instruments on Saturday afternoon – bigger instruments are transported across Nantucket Sound on the slow ferry. After the show ends around 9:00 p.m., the 100+ members of the orchestra head straight to the Hy-Line to catch the last fast ferry off-island. 2001 Boston Pops on Nantucket In 2001, we welcomed Maestro Erich Kunzel, a Grammy Award-winning conductor, to the island for the 5th Boston Pops on Nantucket. Kunzel was joined by trumpeters Doc Severinson, formerly the music director for Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show, as well as American tenor Richard Leech of the New York Metropolitan Opera. Together with the Pops, they played a wide-ranging program that included a tribute to Louis Armstrong, music from the Broadway hit Cats, as well as the main theme from Superman by John Williams. To kick things off that evening, troubadour Bill Schustik performed the National Anthem. DID YOU KNOW: The 2001 event marked the kickoff for our Campaign for the 21st Century, a $20 million fundraising campaign to strengthen the hospital’s endowment. Funds raised in the campaign were also used to support several capital projects: construction of staff housing; expansion of the laboratory; and renovations to the radiology department. 2002 Boston Pops on Nantucket In 2002, a pair of piping plovers – which are protected by state and federal law – made their home in the dunes at Jetties Beach, laying two eggs. This prompted the town to designate more than one-fifth of the beach as off-limits until the chicks hatched and learned to fly. Hospital officials and event organizers were told that as long as the birds were left alone, they would be able to fledge on their own by August 5th – only five short days before the Boston Pops on Nantucket event on August 10th. Due to the uncertainty with the nesting birds, an alternative concert location was identified at the Nantucket High School athletic fields. If the concert had to be relocated, it would have not only cost more to produce, but also limited attendance. Gratefully, the piping plovers eventually left their nesting area at Jetties Beach in time for the concert to move ahead as planned. DID YOU KNOW: The 2002 musical program was a celebration of Richard Rodgers, the legendary composer whose shows defined Broadway for over three decades. Music selections featured pieces from Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma!, and South Pacific. Special Guests: Lisa Vroman & Ron Raines Host: Natalie Jacobsen

2003 Boston Pops on Nantucket The late Tim Russert co-hosted the Boston Pops on Nantucket with Katie Couric for the first time in 2003, and he would go on to emcee the following four events for the hospital. Couric also would go on to host another four Boston Pops on Nantucket concerts over the years.

Tim Russert and Katie Couric

The musical program in 2003 was dubbed “Baby Boomer Bash, and featured the Pops performing some of the favorite songs of the Boomer generation, including the theme from Rocky, songs by Carole King, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Village People. At the time of the 2003 concert, the hospital was trumpeting the completion of its new staff housing duplexes along Surfside Road, as well as the founding of a new teledermatology clinic. DID YOU KNOW: The 2003 event featured a Hawaiian luau theme, chosen by Pops Committee members Tibby Allen and Margaretta Andrews. Jetties Beach was decorated with inflatable palm trees, hula dancers and even hosts Tim Russert and Katie Couric wore their best Hawaiian garb. 2004 Boston Pops on Nantucket Just months before the Boston Red Sox would go on to win their first World Series in 86 years, the Boston Pops played before 7,000-plus at Jetties Beach with a musical program dubbed “Broadway Babies.” Greta Feeney, a 1993 graduate of Nantucket High School, sang the National Anthem at the start of the concert. With Tony-award winner Faith Prince as their special guest, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra played songs from Broadway classics like Annie Get Your Gun, Guys and Dolls, Chicago, and more. The cover of this year’s Pops program book (left) was a tribute to the many hospital volunteers, including the Blue Coats, Thrift Shop, and Pops volunteers, among many others. DID YOU KNOW: The money raised at each year’s Boston Pops on Nantucket stays on-island to provide quality healthcare for everyone in the community – residents and visitors alike. 2005 Boston Pops on Nantucket One year shy of its 10 th anniversary, the 2005 concert struck a patriotic tune and welcomed two popular performers to the stage. Event chairman Michael Molinar said the musical selection added a solemn yet celebratory tone to the evening. “It was a very patriotic evening,” said Molinar. While the first half of the show was dedicated to songs from the new Pops CD America, Molinar said the second half was dictated more by Broadway singer Linda Eder’s whim. Eder was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in the 1997 Broadway musical Jekyll & Hyde. She also appeared on the television show Star Search. DID YOU KNOW: Joining the Pops for the first half of the show was “The Singing Trooper,” Sgt. Dan Clark – the Massachusetts State Trooper who made a name for himself by singing powerful renditions of patriotic favorites at concerts and sporting events. 2006 Boston Pops on Nantucket During the 10th anniversary edition of the Boston Pops on Nantucket, the Esplanade Orchestra was joined by Broadway star Bernadette Peters. The Pops played an eclectic program including songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, music from the soundtracks of Hollywood hits like The Godfather, Star Wars and The Exorcist, as well as a celebration of the 1970s highlighted by renditions of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and Don McLean’s American Pie. As a retrospective on 10 years of the Boston Pops on Nantucket noted in the program book: “Although 10 years of experience and consistency in volunteers has enabled the Pops on Nantucket Committee to get the logistics down, there seems to always be a new wrinkle each year.” That remains true today! DID YOU KNOW: The stage at the Boston Pops on Nantucket is a mobile stage that is towed by truck on the ferry and across Nantucket Sound. Once it arrives on Nantucket, the huge truck navigates the narrow streets to Jetties Beach. It takes crews more than 10 hours to erect the stage, lighting and equipment. 2007 Boston Pops on Nantucket The 11th Boston Pops on Nantucket in 2007 came during a year of change at the hospital, with the retirement of president and CEO Lucille Giddings as well as the newly formed affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital and Partners HealthCare, which strengthened and expanded clinical services on-island. Natalie Cole, the daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole and an eight-time Grammy winner who produced over 29 studio albums, was the special guest. The Synergy Brass Quintet opened the second act of the show and were considered to be one of the premier brass wind chamber music groups in the United States. DID YOU KNOW: Macy Smith, Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s surgical nurse manager at the time, sang the National Anthem. Macy was selected after auditioning before a panel of local judges. Typically, a guest performer is invited to sing the Anthem, and this was the first time in 11 years of concerts that a member of the hospital staff opened the show. 2008 Boston Pops on Nantucket The 12th Boston Pops on Nantucket in 2008 honored the late Tim Russert, an island summer resident and friend of Nantucket Cottage Hospital, who passed away on June 13th, just two months before the event. Russert had been the host of the Boston Pops on Nantucket from 2003 to 2007, and his support for the hospital was recognized on stage and in the program book. The tribute to Russert was followed by a rousing program performed by the Boston Pops, featuring the Broadway star Joel Grey, entitled “Make Mine Bernstein.” The Pops paid tribute to the late Leonard Bernstein, the great American composer and conductor, by playing some of his most wellknown pieces from Broadway hits like West Side Story, On the Town and Candide. DID YOU KNOW: The cover of the 2008 Boston Pops on Nantucket program book featured orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rocco Monto, who had just become a full-time member of the hospital’s medical staff and relocated his practice to the island, along with longtime surgeon Dr. Timothy Lepore. 2009 Boston Pops on Nantucket As the hospital unveiled a new logo in 2009, the Boston Pops on Nantucket entered its 13th year on the island. Conductor Keith Lockhart and the Pops played a Boston baseball-themed program, including Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline and the Dropkick Murphy’s I’m Shipping Up to Boston, along with the obligatory Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Special musical guest Michael Cavanaugh, a Broadway vocalist and pianist, played the music of Billy Joel with the Esplanade Orchestra. DID YOU KNOW: The beautiful cover of the 2009 program book was the result of a collaboration with the Artists Association of Nantucket (AAN). The hospital and AAN sponsored a contest for the cover artwork, and the winning design was submitted by local artist Greg Hill. The original piece of artwork was auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the hospital. Special Guest: Michael Cavanaugh Host: Chris Matthews

2010 Boston Pops on Nantucket As the hospital prepared for its centennial year, the 2010 Boston Pops on Nantucket continued the incredible summer tradition at Jetties Beach. The thousands of attendees were treated to the island-based a cappella group The Cobbletones, made up of current and former Nantucket High School students, who joined host Katie Couric on stage at the start of the show. Another a cappella group, the famous Rockapella, then joined Keith Lockhart and the Esplanade Orchestra for a memorable night that included an epic Beatles sing-along, featuring hits like Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, With a Little Help from My Friends, Twist and Shout, and Yellow Submarine. At the time of the event, the search was on for Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s new president and CEO, and just a month after the concert, the hospital would name ER physician Dr. Margot Hartmann as its new leader. DID YOU KNOW: The Boston Pops on Nantucket has been named “Nantucket’s Best Summer Event” by readers of The Inquirer and Mirror every year. 2011 Boston Pops on Nantucket The 15th annual Boston Pops on Nantucket in 2011 celebrated Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s 100th anniversary of serving the island community. The 2011 Pops became a birthday party of sorts, complete with a giant birthday cake on top of the stage. Popular singersongwriter Carly Simon was the special musical guest, and performed with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra before a sold-out crowd. Since then, the event has sold-out every year! DID YOU KNOW: The hospital’s motto for its centennial year was “Honor the past, celebrate the future.” So in July 2011, the hospital brought together more than 250 Nantucketers for a photoshoot to honor island natives born at the hospital. Island photographer Cary Hazlegrove was hoisted above the crowd of Nantucket natives by a Nantucket Fire Department ladder track at the high school football field to take the photo, which became the fold-out cover for the 2011 Boston Pops on Nantucket program book (left). 2012 Boston Pops on Nantucket In 2012, for the first and only time during the Boston Pops on Nantucket’s history on the island, the concert was cancelled due to severe weather. The island was hit by thunder, lightning, and rain the night before and on the morning of the event, preventing the production crews from setting up the stage. With more thunderstorms in the forecast, hospital officials and event organizers huddled that morning and made the difficult decision, with the safety of concertgoers as the primary consideration, to cancel the concert. Concertgoers who purchased dinner as part of their tickets for the event were invited to Jetties Beach to dine under the tent that had previously been set up, and other food for the concert was donated to island organizations like Our Island Home, Sherburne Commons and the Nantucket Fire Department. While disappointed that the concert had to be cancelled, those who purchased tickets were extremely understanding of the circumstances and that their tickets represented a donation to Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Knock on wood for sun and clear skies tonight! DID YOU KNOW: The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center issued a Tornado Watch for Nantucket and other areas of southeastern Massachusetts on Friday, August 10, 2012. The tornado warning came just as crews were trying to erect the stage at Jetties Beach. Special Guest: Michael Cavanaugh Host: Katie Couric 54

2013 Boston Pops on Nantucket One year after the first and only rainout in the history of the Boston Pops on Nantucket, the event returned in 2013 bigger and better than ever. This year also marked the kickoff for Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s historic campaign to build a new hospital for the island community, and an announcement of the campaign led the program book. Conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra were joined on stage by the 2013 special musical guest Matthew Morrison, an Emmy, Tony, and Golden Globe-nominated performer who became a star playing the high school teacher Will Schuester in Fox TV’s smash hit Glee. Melanie Sabelhaus served as the Event Chair this year, and introduced a formal Chair’s Council, a group of dedicated and dynamic volunteers who helped make it a night to remember. Melanie and the Chair’s Council also incorporated a “text to give” program during the event in which concertgoers were asked to donate $10 via text to the hospital. DID YOU KNOW: Matthew Morrison attracted many “Gleeks” to the 2014 event – self-titled fans of his popular TV show Glee. Boston Pops on Nantucket 2016

Celebrating 20 Years

In its 20th year, the Boston Pops on Nantucket continues the tradition of being the island’s biggest and most inclusive event of the summer that brings the entire community together for a night of extraordinary entertainment. Over the last two decades, each Pops committee has put its unique stamp on the event. This year’s committee set out to honor the history of the Boston Pops on Nantucket, while also implementing new features to enhance the experience for those on the beach and others who might prefer to watch from home. In addition to a new jumbotron on the soundstage that will provide even better views of the Pops, the concert will also be live-streamed at three locations around Nantucket, including Sherburne Commons, the Saltmarsh Senior Center and Our Island Home. This will allow even more islanders to experience the Boston Pops on Nantucket, especially those who may find it difficult to travel down to Jetties Beach for the event. In this way and many more, the 20th Boston Pops on Nantucket promises to be a special evening for the island and for Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

A history of community support. Tonight’s event is a reminder of how the island community has come together for more than a century to support Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Islanders have always recognized the need for a modern hospital offering high quality medical care in all seasons. Since Nantucket Cottage Hospital was founded in 1911, both seasonal and year-round residents have worked together to sustain their hospital through incredibly generous donations, whether it was time, treasure, or knowledge. Throughout the hospital’s long history on Nantucket, members of the community have served as volunteers on the hospital board and various committees. In the 1950s, the “Pink Ladies” volunteered at the hospital, as the Blue Coats do today. Volunteers also helped to organize the popular Main Street Fetes through the mid 1900s to raise funds for the hospital. Today, many members of our community are involved with the Hospital Thrift Shop, as well as our annual events including the Boston Pops on Nantucket, the Health Fair, Native Reunion, and the Swing for Nantucket Cottage Hospital golf tournament.

Foundation & Giving Options The Nantucket Cottage Hospital Foundation was created to advance the mission and programs of the hospital and to secure its future for the next generation of Nantucketers. Working closely with volunteers, staff, and the Board of Trustees, the Foundation encourages participation through fundraising, events, community outreach, and communications. Please contact one of the members of the foundation team to learn how you can be more involved or to answer any questions.
