NEW PAPER CONTAINER TO HOLD LIQUIDS

Nippon Paper Group, a Japanese paper manufacturing company, have recently created a new type of paper container called SPOPS which is able to store liquids without disintegrating. The paper container mimics the shape of a traditional milk carton and can be used to hold many products including shampoo, soap, and household detergents. SPOPS was created to replace conventional refill-styled pouch containers that are often used in hand soaps. In addition, the paper containers offer an ultra-compact, storage-friendly design. Nippon Paper Group is aiming to have the containers commercially available by 2022 following their launch of biodegradable, paper straws.

TMALL FLAGSHIP STORE 2.0 SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

Alibaba Group's online marketplace called the Tmall Flagship Store 2.0 offers a glimpse into the way more personalized experiences will be offered for consumers. On the front page of the website, consumers are able to view items they are likely to purchase, as determined by algorithms which are also used for sharing cash-back promotions and vouchers, a task that they would ordinarily do on their own. The next-gen mobile store also tailors the content it shows in different ways, as some consumers prefer to shop after viewing short videos and others prefer the interactive, real-time quality of livestreams. Shoppers will also be able to make the most of augmented reality tools to virtually try out products or get a better look at them in 3D.

3D SMART & TRY SCANNER

Wacoal Holdings Corp opened an underwear store where women can easily and quickly measure their body sizes without being touched by a store clerk.

In store, there is a 3D body scanner that Wacoal has co-developed with Liquid Inc, which develops image recognition engines. Visitors will be able to enter a "measurement space" similar to a normal fitting room and put on their own underwear or underwear specialized for measurement. In the store, a tablet will then be used to recommend underwear using IBM Corp's "Watson" AI system. Visitors will select their needs, favorite designs and silhouettes. The system will combine them with measured data obtained by the 3D body scanner and recommend underwear.

A MULTI-SENSORY, DIGITALLY-LED AND INVENTORY-FREE, RETAIL CONCEPT

Canada Goose unveiled a new retail concept called The Journey at CF Sherway Gardens, in Toronto, offering an immersive and interactive way for visitors to digitally experience the outdoors. The multi-sensory experience unfolds within the inventory-free retail space, which was "designed to push the boundaries of e-commerce and retail." The Journey begins with an immersive entryway called The Crevasse, which has guests walk over digital glass flooring with sensors to detect footsteps which then mimic the sound of cracking ice. There's also the Gear Room, which gives guests the chance to try on outerwear styles from Canada Goose in cold temperatures. The Arctic-inspired concept store gives visitors the chance to enjoy a one-on-one shopping experience and same-day home delivery. 7-janv.-20
