The Eliminate Project

With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. And in doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. CMRFs are due the 10th of every month!
District Fundraising Goal The District fundraising goal of $93,180.61 actually has a meaning. The 9 is for the 1 baby that dies every 9 minutes because of MNT. The 3 stands for the 3 vaccinations that mothers need to protect herself and all her future children. The 180 is for the cost of the 3 vaccinations which is $1.80. The 61 is for the 61 million people who will be impacted by the Eliminate Project.
$93,180.61 Fundraising at DCON This year there will be a number of Eliminate fundraisers to continue raising money throughout the weekend. Some are old favorites like the Tie Sale and Board Auction, but some are brand new like the Bottle Shakers and some that are a surprise to be figured out at Convention! Keep raising those funds Division 8!

The 2014-2015 District Project I am happy to announce that next year’s District Project will once again be the Eliminate Project. With the Eliminate Project coming to a close in 2015, it is imperative that we raise as much money to help raise the $110 million needed to Eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. Even though I will no longer be a Key Clubber next year, I plan on continuing my support of Eliminate and wish all the underclassmen the best of luck!
