Having sold more than 100 million records worldwide, our Olivia is simply the most successful Australian singer of all time. Add to this the plethora of awards and accolades: four Grammies, an Emmy, an OBE, induction to the ARIA Hall of Fame and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Her boundless drive, generous character and seemingly limitless talent have left an indelible mark. Her stratospheric career started at the tender age of 15 in 1963, as a teen star on Australian TV.
Her big break came 10 years later when her debut on the US country charts immediately delivered a top-10 single and her first Grammy. In 1978, she landed a movie role destined to catapult her into super-stardom, playing Sandy in Grease alongside John Travolta. To date, this remains the most successful movie musical in history. Olivia’s appeal seems timeless. With a career now spanning more than four decades and adored by fans across the world, she is still a vibrant, creative individual who continues to excel in her roles of recording artist, performer, songwriter, entrepreneur, activist and philanthropist. Backed by the dazzling Adelaide Art Orchestra, Olivia Newton-John will embark on a night of pure delight as she retraces the highlights of her career and the hits that have become the soundtrack to our lives including the exhilaration of Xanadu, the haunting beauty of I Honestly Love You and the raw emotion of Hopelessly Devoted To You.

Six distinctive voices creating unique vocal remixes “Slick, entertaining, with infectious groove.” TIME OUT
UK
The
Following electrifying performances at the Isle of Wight and Glastonbury Festivals, and a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, The Magnets are coming to Adelaide for their Australian debut. A six-man sound machine, The Magnets make all their music with their mouths alone, but this is no attempt to mimic instruments. Rather, it’s six distinctive voices creating a unique sound that rivals any band with guitars and keyboards. The Magnets have a gift for extraordinarily imaginative arrangements that radically restyle and subvert songs from artists as diverse as Kraftwerk and Beyoncé. In Gobsmacked!, you’ll hear vocal remixes of tracks that stretch from Joy Division to the Scissor Sisters in a show packed with musical sophistication, smart choreography, audience participation and thoroughly British charm.

You’ll know him as Salvatore Romano in the critically acclaimed TV series, Mad Men. But long before Bryan Batt found himself on a drawing board in Madison Avenue, he was treading the boards on Broadway. This comical and moving musical showcase follows his journey to stardom, starting out as a very ‘theatrical’ boy down in New Orleans who dreams of a life on stage. From classic Cole Porter to modern numbers, he interweaves his songs exquisitely with hilarious and poignant monologues about his eventful Louisiana childhood - dominated by his strong-willed, Southern-belle mother - and his experiences starring in shows including La Cage Aux Folles, Saturday Night Fever, Starlight Express and Cats, before the role on Mad Men. Here’s an opportunity to spend one unforgettable evening in the company of this exceedingly talented and generous performer.

Returning to Adelaide after performing last year in An Evening With Stephen Schwartz, Carrie Rawlings is a sublimely talented pianist/vocalist who will take you on a whirlwind, emotional journey into diversity. Inspired by the beguiling, velvety tones of Karen Carpenter, the soul of Whitney Houston & the force that is Carole King; whilst being personally shaped by the colourful characters of friends & family; she lets her audience in on what’s moved her to tears of laughter, joy & occasionally despair & the music that echoed that trip. Music that cleanses the soul and rocks the heart.

Stunning tribute to the James Dean of Jazz

PREMIERE American singer and trumpeter Chet Baker was once labelled the ‘James Dean of Jazz’ for his matinee-idol beauty, emotionally intense performances and well-publicised drug habit. In this journey, fragments of a self-destructive life contrast with the lyrical beauty of the songs that Chet Baker would always be associated with, including My Funny Valentine, Let’s Get Lost, These Foolish Things, Everything Happens To Me, Look For The Silver Lining and There Will Never Be Another You. Starring international cabaret award winner Tim Draxl, Freeway - The Chet Baker Journey reveals his natural affinity with Baker’s spare, haunting and instinctive musicality.

WHEN I FALL The Nat King IN LOVE Cole Story
DEBORAH CONWAY
Round midnight, the world is vulnerable and troubled minds find clarity in the dark. Musicians often meet characters who open up over a few drinks to keep the daylight at bay. These stories are inspired by, and dedicated to them.
Nat King Cole was “a song’s best friend” who lived for music.
Of Indigenous Australian, Irish and Italian descent, the down-toearth Leah Flanagan is a natural storyteller with the voice of an angel, wielding a mean ukelele. Midnight Muses also features the nocturnal talents of Melanie Robinson, Jamie Blechynden, and musicians Matt Earl, Tom Jones and Brian Manning.
The first African American to host a TV show, he fought racism all his life. His distinct sound that caressed lyrics and romanced a melody created a legacy like no other. In this long-awaited return to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Bert LaBonte guides us through the life and career of a true pioneer, embodying the man we know so well.

Finally, one of our best-loved stars returns to Australia. For those who’ve become fans through his previous Adelaide Cabaret Festival appearances, the great news is that Something About Always is all about him. Tough, funny, uncompromising and brutally honest with his music as well as himself, Simon and musical director Daniel Edmonds share the moments that made the man: in and out of character, in cabaret, in concert, on stage, on TV and on film. “Musical satire at its finest!” Photo by Ponch Hawkes

ADELAIDE ADVERTISER
This intriguing new program by Robyn Archer takes us through The Other Great American Songbook - with songs by Woody Guthrie and Stephen Foster, little-known American musical theatre numbers, naughty songs that caught the ear of the censor, songs by Brecht/ Weill and Eisler written in the USA, and ending with Dylan & Pink.
A
rmed with a deliciously malicious sense of humour and the ability to turn out a jaunty melody, Michael Dalley's previous smash-hit shows including Vaudeville X and Intimate Apparel have earned no less than eleven Green Room Award nominations and two statues. In his latest musical social satire, Michael and his cast stab their acerbic wit into the eye of the great Aussie dream...realty... or was that reality? With songs like Real Estate - The White Collar Job for the Blue Collar Brain, Million Dollar Shitbox and It’s A Terrible School But The Grounds Are Stunning, you know you are in for a night of side-splitting, split-level, soul-searching entertainment. Putting the strata fees in stratospheric.
As a singer, writer, director, mentor, artistic director and public advocate of the arts, the influence of Robyn Archer in cabaret, music and culture is as profound as it is remarkable. Your authoritative guide to the alternative US music catalogue.
“Robyn Archer illuminates.”

Performing Arts Collection Exhibition
The Performing Arts Collection is proud to present a stunning collection of Peter Allen memorabilia never seen before in Adelaide. He started life as Peter Woolnough from Tenterfield, New South Wales but through sheer tenacity, hard work and talent, he became Peter Allen,

‘the premier fun-maker of the world’. Allen went on to reach dizzy heights on Broadway - collecting an Oscar along the way. Though remembered as a flamboyant and energetic performer, songwriting was an equal strength. His work was recorded by many, including Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey and Olivia Newton-John - an enduring legacy that reveals a sensitive and reflective man behind the Hawaiian shirts and sequins. His onstage energy has been immortalised in the stage hit-musical The Boy From Oz, proving that he was the ultimate showman and a consumate performer.
10 JUNE > LATE AUGUST Festival Theatre Foyer
This collection of memorabilia comes from the Melbourne Arts Centre’s Performing Arts Collection and was kindly given by Peter’s friends Larry Rinehart and Bruce Cudd. The Performing Arts Collection would also like to thank Todd McKenney.
