DSU Global Design Society(GDS) Program CHICAGO WORKSHOP 2021

Dongseo University has chosen the design school as a

specialized area of studies since its establishment in 1992. After adopting a series of challenging experiments and

innovation, it has now grown into a college consisting of various design majors and a fashion department.

In addition, We have promoted international student

exchange programs actively. In particular, in 2015, the college established the ‘Global Design Society(GDS)’

program and has been holding summer intensive

workshops in leading oversea educational institutions in

New York, Chicago, USA and Milan, Italy, etc.

With a slogan of “To the world,” the Dongseo design

college encourages its students to take on a bold global

challenge as world citizens. The GDS program has helped

international industrial design consulting firm, who is also a visiting professor at Dongseo University in Chicago, USA

have joined.

This year's 'CHICAGO FALL WORKSHOP' theme was

“Hear What I Say”, a total of 30 students were divided into 6 teams to design the hearing devices with 6 different

Although this event was short for 5 days, systematic

and in-depth various viewpoints and ideas were discussed

and shared. We believe this has been a very meaningful and

beneficial experience for all students.

WORKSHOP

K I C K- O F F PRE-WORKSHOP

Before the workshop days starts, there was a short

kick-off session for introduction of Beyond Design

workshop overview and the pre-assignment for student to take the workshop onboarding engagement.

On October 27th, on 11:30pm Korean Time and

9:30am Chicago time, DSU x Beyond Design Kick-off

meeting for GDS Workshop started. The workshop titled; “Hearing What I Say; Hearing Aid Design Workshop” was waiting for us in internationalised tension.

The workshop was organised for 5 days, with the

design firm at Chicago, Beyond Design’s ideation not only to modeling process lecture, but also feedback sessions

for participants’ assignments.

In my opinion, most design process has similar

fundamentals such as systemising from the zero idea

to cultivate and training themselves, the GDS workshop

could integrate what students understand the holistic view as a functionalism.

After all, I am super proud of students in the end of this

workshop, for whom followed methods and processes for

product design innovation with the practical feedback.

Beyond Design follows the five processes to develop

a new product with development of technological

convergence after. In this GDS Workshop also progressed with the connected methods and processes, accompany

by the DNA of the design thinking.

Five, hearing aid devices are weak in waterproof and durability. Separate maintenance is required.

As a result of the interview, an insight was obtained that it

is necessary to relax the ears of the hearing impaired and

relieve anxiety.

I drew a storyboard, and there was a problem in which the deaf had to wear hearing aids for too long. Problems were

detected because the earholes often did not touch the air.

I think the time to relax the ears for a while should be repeated often and habitually.

If the user pulls the wire connected to the receiver, it enters the device. If you pull the wire and put it in your ear, you can hear the sound. The user can wear a hearing aid that matches his or her skin colorThe user can wear a hearing aid that matches his or her skin color.

It is a conch-shaped hearing aid, so the name of the hearing aid is a conch hearing aid. It's connected to the phone and Bluetooth, so it's convenient to use.

Just as you hang your neck up when you are not wearing earphones for a while in a similar format to a neckband, a

conch hearing aid can be easily used by plugging it into the space in your ear and pulling the wire when your ears are

uncomfortable.

Through this workshop, we developed a deep understanding of Persona and a compressed design process, resulting in

In-ear + Hearing Aid In order to design a hearing aid, I looked for it because I needed knowledge and information about it.

There were various types of hearing aids, and the behindthe-ear hearing aid I chose has the disadvantage of being

the best visible one, but it has the advantage of being the

most safe product.

To compensate for the shortcomings, I thought of a way to

make the main body look like the color of a person's skin, and I wanted to decorate the speaker part a little bit. Singers wear in-ear monitors.

Many ordinary people sometimes think that the singer's

in-ears are pretty or trendy. So singers also decorate their eyelashes beautifully.

I came to think that people wearing hearing aids can

reduce their reluctance if they are pretty like in-ears.

To compensate for the shortcomings, I thought of a way to

make the main body look like the color of a person's skin, and I wanted to decorate the speaker part a little bit. After that, careful mold work for each model will be

carried out during the production process.

the shape of the headbone, it was modeled round with a

curved line, and the touch pad was protruded so that you could know where to tap.

In addition, we tried to prevent the loss of earrings as much as possible even if we danced violently at the

party by adding a hinge to the earrings that were only

used decoratively. The shape of the earring is so unique that it is modeled as a round basic shape for a natural

design without attracting attention. In addition, we fully

considered the user's position so that even if the finish is

rounded and fixed to the ear, pain does not occur.

I wanted to provide a design that considers personas who frequently have parties and meetings while delivering

a smooth sense of use with the most curved and round finish during the modeling process.

While proceeding with this process, I wanted to make a

product that doesn't require Persona to wear a hearing aid to hide.

Lastly, I'm wearing earrings. It is a product that is installed behind the ears and does not look like a hearing aid as

much as possible, and is designed to take into account the fit in a streamlined form.
