AeroGlide 7™ Our patented seven layer comfort system is considered to be the most comfortable in the market today. We feature a removable orthotic footbed with DRYZ, Vitalize™ orthobed, polycarbonate shank and a 220 plus abrasion AG7™ outsole for superior wear.

DRYZ® QTS™ This advanced moisture transport system allows odor, heat and moisture to be pulled from the surface of the skin, transported through a breathable hydrophilic copolymer and then evaporated to the outside.

Safety Toe Compression and impact testing determine the impact that the safety toe will absorb. A classification of I/75 means the toe will absorb up to c75 pounds of impact, C/75 means the toe offers constant load protection of up to 5,500 pounds of pressure.

Ultra-Welt ™ The Ultra-Welt system works with the Gel-Cell Insert for more comfort all around. An extra Gel-Cell is inserted in our Vitalize™Insole, giving you cushion in the ball of the foot. These two layers give you the ultimate in comfort.

History of the

cowboy BOOT

In the early days of the West, cowboys faced rough, unpredictable conditions and extreme weather â&#x20AC;&#x201D; from relentless snow to blistering heat as they rode across the country. This dangerous work demanded that they could move quickly, mounting and dismounting their horses at a momentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s notice. Staying comfortable, safe and alive in these conditions created the need for new type of boot, known today as the cowboy boot.

The earliest designs were derived from the cavalry boot worn by soldiers during the Civil War and other similar designs from the early 1860s. Many of the veterans who headed for the new frontier after the war werenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t prepared for the unforeseen dangers that awaited them in the West. So as they migrated, shoemakers designed boots that could easily slip into horse stirrups with a higher heel to rest the foot comfortably, adding leather on the legs to protect against jagged brush, rattlesnakes and other hazards that were often encountered in these dangerous conditions.

While these original cowboy boots were utilitarian and straightforward, over time the designs evolved from plain brown and black stitching to colorful stitching and specialty design motifs. From there, boot makers began to experiment with inlays and overlays, and suddenly boot designs became limitless. The more extraordinary the cowboy boot could be, the better.

THE ANATOMY of the

DOUBLE-H BOOT ROUND TOE “Classic work boot”- The round toe boot has a tip that is rounded, versus flat. A round toe boot could be semi-round, full round (U-toe) or broad round. Each may be a little wider and less tapered than the other.

Urban Square Western Square – lower profile toe built for work or dress.

SQUARE Toe In a Square Toe boot, the front of the toe is flat, with the corners almost at a right-angle.

SNIP Toe The snip toe is similar to the square toe, except the front is narrower. The boot is tapered to a near-point, but flat at the front.

FASHIOn Toe The fashion toe boot is a J toe boot that has a bit more room for the toes to wiggle around, making it less-tapered and a bit more rounded at the tip.

TOES

Toe styles are based on personal preference. There are a variety of toes on our boots, some like more rounded toes or square toes for added comfort; snip, J, and fashion toes are narrower and are a personal preference of the wearer. Popular toe styles vary based on geographical location. J Toe, Round Toe, U Toe, and Wide Square Toe’s are predominant styles for Double- H. The J toe is more fashion forward and popular in the east and southeast. The Round Toe is accepted nationwide. The U Toe is seen more in the southwest, but our modified U Toe in our work westerns are accepted everywhere. Our Wide Square Toe gained popularity in the southwest, but is rapidly growing. 2 STITCHING Stitching can vary from simple to elaborate and extremely detailed. Some styles and patterns have been around for close to a century and others have been adapted and go in and out of style. Many boot makers have a signature pattern they use throughout their career, allowing the boot to be recognized as their design. Handmade boots patterns are done on a single-stich sewing machine, one row at a time, creating amazing works of art and fun flare to the boot. 2A Toe Bug A toe bug is a design stitched onto the top of the vamp of many cowboy boots, visible when you look down at the boot. This is used on certain leathers to help the boot break over properly. Sometimes it surrounds cording that is sewn into the vamp for more support, or looks. Exotics such as lizard do not need this feature.

B Fancy Stitch Shafts on boots like cowboy boots may also have fancy stitching of various and contrasting 2 colors sewn into the shaft, making each style distinctive.

3 PIPING Piping is a rounded strip of leather that runs up the side seams of some types of boots. Sewn dead center between the back and front of the boot, piping can be in the same color or a contrasting color of leather to make the boot or its stitching patterns stand out more. Piping is also used to hide stitching that holds the side seams together.

THE VAMP

The upper, also called a vamp, surrounds and protects the foot from the sole up. Uppers are built around a last, which is a mold used to shape the boot’s materials. Some boots are made with a single layer of material (single vamp), a double layer (double vamp), or even triple layer (triple vamp) for added insulation and water penetration resistance.

5 Spur RIDGE/Ledge/Shelf Spurs rest on a ledge called a spur ridge at the top of the heel where it is attached to the boot. The spur ridge keeps the spur from sliding down the back of the heel.

6 PULL TAB Pull tabs, pull holes, or mule ears allow the wearer to pull on the boots on by putting the fingers through the loops. Pull tabs are found on traditional western boots. Pull holes and “mule ears” are other options for the pull tabs. Mule ears are long so that you can reach the entrance of the boot without bending over so far. This option gets more acceptable with age of the wearer, making them easier to pull on! Pull tabs were also used to tie up and hang the boots to prevent snakes, spiders and other animals from surprising the wearers in the morning.

CONSTRUCTION of the

DOUBLE-H BOOT

Exacting Standards:

The Double-H Construction Process In the following pages, you will get an up-close look inside the intricate construction process of Double-H boots, made by the skilled hands of 350 dedicated Americans at our Martinsburg, Pennsylvania factory.

From initial leather cutting to final packaging, it takes over 125 separate processes to create a Double-H boot that fits our exacting standards and those of our customers. Divided into seven major functions, each of these processes is meticulously executed with precision and great care.

CUTTING The first step in our intensive manufacturing process begins in the cutting room, where leathers are marked with stamped dies and cut into all of the necessary pieces needed for construction.

PRE-FIT In this process, the individual parts of the leather upper and lining are marked for stitching, branded with logos, and â&#x20AC;&#x153;skivedâ&#x20AC;? to thin out the edges.

FITTING Inside the fitting room, each of the individual parts is assembled into the shoeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s upper. Details such as eyelets and temporary laces are added here.

LASTING The newly assembled upper is pulled up over a last, or molded shoe form, to ensure a secure fit with a smooth finish, straight seams, and no gaps or bunching on the inside or outside of the shoe. This is an exacting process and one that is essential to the integrity of the shoe.

MAKING Also known as bottoming, or constructing, this is the action of attaching the sole to the upper using one of three methods: cementing, direct attaching - molding through the heat or pressure, or welting with a stitched seam.

FINISHING The final details are applied in the finishing room – from removing the last from the boot to attaching the heel with nails, trimming, burnishing, buffing, polishing, adding laces and more – and giving each shoe a final inspection to ensure they satisfy Double H’s exacting standards.

PACKAGING Once the boxes are assembled with lightning-fast speed by our dexterous box maker, the shoes are wrapped in tissue and then placed into the boxes so they can be sent to the warehouse distribution center, where they are organized by style, size and width and ready to be shipped and sold.

Lacer Lace-up boots with versatility and flexibility. Built with a lower shaft height than the Packer, Lacer boots, first popularized during the Civil War era, are an excellent multipurpose style with a low heel, superior ankle support and a flexible, athletic feel.

CEMENT

Concave structure of the foot.

The widest part of the foot formed by the five metatarsal heads. The â&#x20AC;&#x153;ball jointâ&#x20AC;? refers to the protruding inside joint behind the great toe.

A term broadly applied to a number of adhesives used commonly in shoemaking. As a verb, to spread cement in a uniform layer over the surface of a work piece: upper, lining, sole, etc. Or, to join pieces together, e.g. sole to upper, by means of an adhesive, i.e. solvent, heat activated or hot-melt.

FOXING

The back part of a boot upper from shank to heel. This may include only the back part below the vamp line, as in a boot having a threequarter or circular vamp; or it may include the entire back part of the upper from top edge to sole and from shank to heel, as in many types of low cut shoes.

Heel Counter

The heel counter is placed on the inside of the boot between the lining and the outside leather foxing. The counter is formed and molded to hold the heel in place.

Insole

A sole of leather or other material which is attached directly to a boot upper and welting. In some boot constructions, the sole surface forms the inside of the bottom of the boot; in others, it is covered with a sock lining of thin leather or other material.

Midsole

A sole of leather or other material placed between the outsole and the insole for absorbing shock.

Outsole

Outermost sole of the boots, the surface of which is exposed to wear.

PIPING

Lining to finish boot properly.

PULL TAB

The pull tab has three functions. The first and most important is to pull the boot on by putting the fingers through the loops. The second function is to cover up the side seam at the top of the cuff and the third function is decorative.

QUARTER

The complete upper part of the boot upper above the vamp line. The quarter may be referred to as the â&#x20AC;&#x153;shaftâ&#x20AC;? in the case of high boots.

SHANK

Forms the arch, made of steel, fiber, wood or plastic.

VAMP

The complete forepart of a boot upper which is attached to the insole welting. It is the most important part of the upper and the one which must possess the finest appearance and durability.

WELT

Strip of leather or synthetic material between the upper and the sole to which each part is attached.

RETURN POLICY Double-H stands behind the quality and workmanship of its product 100%. If there is evidence of inferior quality after inspection by our Quality Control Department, credit will be allowed in accordance with the following policies.

STOCK RETURNS To obtain credit for the return of new merchandise, including special orders, the dealer must promptly seek a Return Authorization number (RA#) by contacting Customer Service via the telephone within 30 days of shipping. The RA # must be displayed on the exterior of each carton for proper processing. Failure to do this may result in refusal of the shipment, making the dealer liable for freight charges. A $4.00 per pair restocking fee applies to returns of new non-defective merchandise. If there has been an error in the shipment of goods, Customer Service will authorize the return of new merchandise and will issue the dealer an RA #. If the dealer is requesting a return of more than 6 pair of new non-defective product, the request must be made directly to the dealer’s sales representative. Upon receipt of unauthorized stock returns the dealer will be credited the current wholesale price. Any footwear purchased at special program or closeout prices will be credited at that amount. If the dealer ships goods to Double-H without first obtaining an RA # from Customer Service the shipment is subject to refusal and will be returned at the dealer’s expense.

WORN/DAMAGED GOODS In the case of damaged footwear that has been worn, Double-H will credit the dealer’s account with Full Credit (100%) Half Credit (50%) or No Credit (0%). Please refer to the chart below for descriptions on the three levels. The Quality Control Department of Double-H determines this allowance based on the estimated normal wear (exclusive of defect) remaining in the footwear when returned. Credit will not be allowed for footwear returned if legitimate defects could not be found in workmanship. A letter will then be issued to the dealer stating “no credit.” Worn “no credit” shoes will be destroyed unless the dealer has specifically requested a return at the dealer’s expense.

NO CREDIT (0%) -Sole and or upper showing extensive, excessive or abusive wear. -Sole or upper cut, punctured, or showing excessive abrasion -Stiff upper, due to leather being wet and dried too rapidly. -Excessive chemical/acid splash or burn -Hard abuse of product.

HALF CREDIT (50%) -Possible defects but clearly the boot has been worn for a while.

FULL CREDIT (100%) -Obvious defects showing some wear with boot in good condition.

FREIGHT Reasonable return costs for freight on defective merchandise will be credited if the dealer provides the carrier receipt for the amount expended by the dealer to return.
