Earth research What is earth ? Earth, also called the world is the third planet from the Sun, the densest planet in the Solar System, the largest of the Solar System’s four terrestrial planets and the only astronomical object known to accommodate life. The earliest life on Earth began around 3.5 billion years ago. Earth’s biodiversity has expanded continually except when interrupted by mass extinctions. Although some scholars estimate that more than 99 percent of all species that ever lived on the planet are extinct, there currently around 10–14 million species of life on earth, including over 7.2 billion humans who depend upon its biosphere and minerals to survive. Earth’s human population is divided among about two hundred sovereign states which interact through diplomacy, conflict, travel, and trade and communication media.
First life on earth According to evidence from radiometric dating and other sources, the Earth was formed around four and a half billion years ago. Within its first billion years, life appeared in its oceans and began to affect its atmosphere and surface, promoting the proliferation of aerobic as well as anaerobic organisms and causing the formation of the atmosphere’s ozone layer. This layer and the geomagnetic field block the most life-threatening parts of the Sun’s radiation so life was able to flourish and develop on land as well as in water. Since then, the combination of Earth’s distance from the Sun, its physical properties and its geological history have allowed life to exist and persist.
The ssurface of earth The Earth’s terrain varies greatly from place to place. About 70.8% of the surface is covered by water, with much of the continental shelf below sea level. This equates to 361.132 million km2. The submerged surface has mountainous features, including a globe-spanning mid-ocean ridge system, as well as undersea volcanoes, oceanic trenches, submarine canyons, oceanic plateaus and abyssal plains. The remaining 29.2% not covered by water consists of mountains, deserts, plains, plateaus, and other landforms.
earths climate weather Earth’s atmosphere has no definite boundary, slowly becoming thinner and fading into outer space. Three-quarters of the atmosphere’s mass is contained within the first 11 km of the surface. This lowest layer is called the troposphere. Energy from the Sun heats this layer, and the surface below, causing expansion of the air. This lowerdensity air then rises, and is replaced by cooler, higher-density air. The result is atmospheric circulation that drives the weather and climate through redistribution of thermal energy.

Artifact research what is an artifact ? An artifact is of an artefact is an object formed by humans, particularly one of interest to archaeologists. It also means anything created by humans which gives information about the culture of its creator and users. There is many more explanations for what an artifact is, but they all roughly mean the same thing because they are all linked with humans creating something or making something. An artifact is usually a reflection of knowledge that someone has learned through advances in technology, the knowledge could have been passed down through the generations or could have evolved and changed. There for the artifact would reflect a person’s knowledge.

What is THE GOLDEN record Pioneers 10 and 11, which preceded Voyager, both carried small metal plaques identifying their time and place of origin for the benefit of any other spacefarers that might find them in the distant future. With this example before them, NASA placed a more ambitious message aboard Voyager 1 and 2-a kind of time capsule, intended to communicate a story of our world to extraterrestrials. The Voyager message is carried by a phonograph record-a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. The contents of the record were selected for NASA by a committee chaired by Carl Sagan of Cornell University, et. al. Dr. Sagan and his associates assembled 115 images and a variety of natural sounds, such as those made by surf, wind and thunder, birds, whales, and other animals. To this they added musical selections from different cultures and eras, and spoken greetings from Earth-people in fifty-five languages, and printed messages from President Carter and U.N. Secretary General Waldheim. Each record is encased in a protective aluminum jacket, together with a cartridge and a needle. Instructions, in symbolic language, explain the origin of the spacecraft and indicate how the record is to be played. The 115 images are encoded in analog form. The remainder of the record is in audio, designed to be played at 16-2/3 revolutions per minute. It contains the spoken greetings, beginning with Akkadian, which was spoken in Sumer about six thousand years ago, and ending with Wu, a modern Chinese dialect. Following the section on the sounds of Earth, there is an eclectic 90-minute selection of music, including both Eastern and Western classics and a variety of ethnic music. Once the Voyager spacecraft leave the solar system (by 1990, both will be beyond the orbit of Pluto), they will find themselves in empty space. It will be forty thousand years before they make a close approach to any other planetary system. As Carl Sagan has noted, “The spacecraft will be encountered and the record played only if there are advanced spacefaring civilizations in interstellar space. But the launching of this bottle into the cosmic ocean says something very hopeful about life on this planet. The definitive work about the Voyager record is “Murmurs of Earth” by Executive Director, Carl Sagan, Technical Director, Frank Drake, Creative Director, Ann Druyan, Producer, Timothy Ferris, Designer, Jon Lomberg, and Greetings Organizer, Linda Salzman. Basically, this book is the story behind the creation of the record, and includes a full list of everything on the record. “Murmurs of Earth”, originally published in 1978, was reissued in 1992 by Warner News Media with a CD-ROM that replicates the Voyager record. Unfortunately, this book is now out of print, but it is worth the effort to try and find a used copy or browse through a library copy.

The Voyager Mission overview Mission Objective : The mission objective of the Voyager Interstellar Mission (VIM) is to extend the NASA exploration of the solar system beyond the neighborhood of the outer planets to the outer limits of the Sun’s sphere of influence, and possibly beyond. This extended mission is continuing to characterize the outer solar system environment and search for the heliopause boundary, the outer limits of the Sun’s magnetic field and outward flow of the solar wind. Penetration of the heliopause boundary between the solar wind and the interstellar medium will allow measurements to be made of the interstellar fields, particles and waves unaffected by the solar wind.
Mission Overview: The twin Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft are exploring where nothing from Earth has flown before. Continuing on their more-than-35-year journey since their 1977 launches, they each are much farther away from Earth and the sun than Pluto. In August 2012, Voyager 1 made the historic entry into interstellar space, the region between stars, filled with material ejected by the death of nearby stars millions of years ago. Scientists hope to learn more about this region when Voyager 2, in the “heliosheath” -- the outermost layer of the heliosphere where the solar wind is slowed by the pressure of interstellar medium -- also reaches interstellar space. Both spacecraft are still sending scientific information about their surroundings through the Deep Space Network, or DSN. The primary mission was the exploration of Jupiter and Saturn. After making a string of discoveries there -- such as active volcanoes on Jupiter’s moon Io and intricacies of Saturn’s rings -- the mission was extended. Voyager 2 went on to explore Uranus and Neptune, and is still the only spacecraft to have visited those outer planets. The adventurers’ current mission, the Voyager Interstellar Mission (VIM), will explore the outermost edge of the Sun’s domain. And beyond.
Mission Characteristic: The VIM is an extension of the Voyager primary mission that was completed in 1989 with the close flyby of Neptune by the Voyager 2 spacecraft. Neptune was the final outer planet visited by a Voyager spacecraft. Voyager 1 completed its planned close flybys of the Jupiter and Saturn planetary systems while Voyager 2, in addition to its own close flybys of Jupiter and Saturn, completed close flybys of the remaining two gas giants, Uranus and Neptune. At the start of the VIM, the two Voyager spacecraft had been in flight for over 12 years having been launched in August (Voyager 2) and September (Voyager 1), 1977. Voyager 1 was at a distance of approximately 40 AU (Astronomical Unit - mean distance of Earth from the Sun, 150 million kilometers) from the Sun, and Voyager 2 was at a distance of approximately 31 AU.
The Spacecraft overview Spacecraft Overview The identical Voyager spacecraft are three-axis stabilized systems that use celestial or gyro referenced attitude control to maintain pointing of the high-gain antennas toward Earth. The prime mission science payload consisted of 10 instruments (11 investigations including radio science). Only five investigator teams are still supported, though data are collected for two additional instruments. With the exception of the Voyager 1 PLS instrument, all of the above are working well and are capable of continuing operations in the expected environment. In addition, data are collected from the Planetary Radio Astronomy (PRA) instrument and Voyager 1’s Ultraviolet Spectrometer (UVS). The Flight Data Subsystem (FDS) and a single 8-track digital tape recorder (DTR) provide the data handling functions. The FDS configures each instrument and controls instrument operations. It also collects engineering and science data and formats the data for transmission. The DTR is used to record high-rate PWS data. Data are played back every six months.

if aliens came to earth What would happen ? What would happen if aliens to contact with earth? This question has garnered considerable academic thought since the first reported flying saucer sighting in 1947, not just as an inquiry in human psychology, but also as a way of contemplating what aliens might do if they ever found us. From astronomers to “ufologists” to anthropologists, scholars who have contemplated the various “contact scenarios” believe our course of action would strongly depend on the relative intelligence level of the newfound beings. Here, we outline what would happen if we encountered primitive, humanlike, and godlike aliens.
What if the aliens are smarter than us ? If we came across a race of aliens who were orders of magnitude smarter than us e.g. Beings who are capable of interstellar spaceflight who had established a base somewhere in our solar system? Just as ants can’t make sense of human behaviour, it’s difficult or impossible for us to understand how this advanced race would react to us. A well-known astronomer Carl Sagan figured any aliens that might be able to travel between the stars would be so advanced that they would be beyond all this business of aggression and war and so forth,” Shostak said. “But that may just be a projection of what he hopes humans would do eventually.” Shostak usually thinks differently towards Aggression, he says, evolved as a trait among Earthlings because it helps us obtain and protect resources. Though aliens would probably have evolved under totally different conditions, pressure to secure finite resources would probably have moulded their behaviour, too. “I suspect resources would be finite anywhere in the universe.” If Sagan is right, then the wise race we encountered would treat us with immense consideration and respect, while having the technology to ensure that we treat them similarly. If Shostak is right, and the incredibly advanced aliens we stumbled upon were also as aggressive as we are, we’d probably be toast.

if the voyager was to be launched in this day and age My thoughts........ I feel there would be a big difference in opinion on the voyager program if it was to be launched this day and age because of the influence of media. I feel that people would think that we are giving an open invitation to earth and therefor come to enslave humanity. I think this because of all the films that have been made on aliens coming to kill us and enslave us. I also feel that they would be a wide spread of protesting. If we was to send out the voyager probe now it could cause chaos due to people being scared of what could happen if we was to make contact with other beings. On the other hand I feel that if we ever did get unto contact with aliens we would be more ready for it and accepting the fact that we are not alone in the universe. I feel that we are at a stage in evolution where we could be more understanding of other beings existing in the universe maybe due to the movies, novels and news.

Battle of Los Angeles is a science fiction action film by The Asylum, which premiered on the Syfy cable TV channel (US) on Saturday March 12, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. EST and was released to DVD the following Tuesday. The film is directed by Mark Atkins and is a mock buster of the Columbia Pictures film Battle: Los Angeles, which is inspired by the events of the Great Los Angeles Air Raid of 1942.
how would this effect our opinion on aliens ? Just by judging by the posters for this film you can see the aliens in this film course a lot of destruction and chaos. In the film a squadron of U.S. Marines becomes the last line of defence against a global invasion. I feel if aliens did make contact with earth people who might have watched this film might be expecting a mass invasion due to the fact that this gives a message that other beings are all hostile and would kill you. I also feel that this film gets across to the audience that a military response to any kind of alien contact would be best the way to deal with it.
War of the worlds What is war of the worlds ? War of the Worlds stars Tom Cruise as Ray Ferrier, a divorced dock worker estranged from his children and living separately from them. As his former wife drops their children off for him to look after for a few days, the planet is attacked by aliens that come up out of the ground driving Tripods and as Earth’s armed forces are defeated, Ray tries to protect his children and flee to Boston to re-join his former wife.
how would this effect our opinion on aliens ? I feel that this film gives the impression that aliens might just want to come to earth for one reason, that reason being to come to earth for the resources and to harvest us which seems quite a vulgar way on looking at aliens coming to earth. I also think that people would think that we would be helpless against any other beings with higher intelligence that exist out and that we would have to rely on Mother Nature to fight back.
men in black What is men in black ? Men in Black is a 1997 American science fiction action spy comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. The film was based on Lowell Cunningham’s The Men in Black comic book series, originally published by Marvel and Malibu Comics, with a plot following two agents of a secret organization called Men in Black who supervise extra-terrestrial lifeforms who live on Earth and hide their existence from ordinary humans.
how would this effect our opinion on aliens ? This film has a different message imbedded in it because I feel that it’s trying to get across that aliens might just be like us and that they have outlaws too that need to be dealt with. I think that it also suggest that aliens might already be on earth and that the government is keeping it a secret. Films like this could change people’s opinions on aliens in the way of that they don’t all want to kill and destroy the world, but that they might want to co-exist with humans.
cloverfield What is war of the worlds ? Cloverfield is a 2008 American science fiction found footage monster film directed by Matt Reeves, produced by J. J. Abrams & Bryan Burk, and written by Drew Goddard. Before settling on an official title, the film was marketed as 1-18-08. The film follows six young New Yorkers attending a goingaway party on the night that a gigantic monster attacks the city.
how would this effect our opinion on aliens ? Cloverfield is a good example of a film that would affect our opinions on what aliens might be like with first contact. This film suggest that they might not be intelligent being and that they could be mindless beast destroying everything in its path. It also suggest that aliens might already be on earth waiting for the right moment to strike and also suggests that we might not be able to deal with a aliens if it gets out of hand.
Redesigning the golden record ? Redesigning the golden record For my redesigning the golden recorded I would like to completely change the look of the golden record because I feel that I would like to show what I would do with designing the golden record. I would like to change the look of the record, but still keep the shape and size of the original record. I would also change the content of what is on the record.
What I would do to change the look of original record I would first like to change the original markings on the record to an earth map on the record because I feel that if other beings do find the record they would then know what earth looks like. I would also change the original gold to a combination of metallic green and blue (the blue being the see and the green being the land). On the back of the disk I would have instructions on how to play the record in a simple diagram.
What changes I would do to the content of the record I would completely update all the original images used in the golden record with high resolution images and also better shots of the original images. I would also have all sound files updated in a better quality and I would also have a better way to organise all the sound files on the record. I would like to add a video of a human’s experience throughout the day because I feel that would be an easier way of explaining our culture as human beings. I would also have videos of people in different settings such as male, female, old and young. Just to show what we are like when we are older and younger. I would also like to show what is the difference between a man and a women throughout a human’s daily life.
the Human senses ? The human senses For my human senses idea I would like to create a book that show cases the human senses through touch, smell, hearing and taste. I feel that it would be an interesting book to work on because I would have to figure out a way of getting it to emit sound and also somehow incorporating a tasting section. I feel that if beings that would find this book will be able to read it through the senses that we all share. I think there is a bigger chance of other beings being able to understand earth through five different senses.
What will I have in the book? I feel that key parts of earth would have to be captured in this book for an example of imagery there would be the earth image taken from the moon, a moon image from earth. I would also like to include all sorts of animals, culture, society’s, races, sexes and many more images that would explain earth. For my touch part of the book I would like to have different textures for example dirt, wood, plastic, glass, metals, rubber and many more textures to explain earth through touch. For the smell part of the book I would like to have different flowers and environment smells. For the hearing sense I feel that the sound of the ocean and the sound of different animals would be a good choice. I also would like to have the sound of humans and a busy city etc. For the taste part of my book I would like to show of sweet and sour tastes like honey and lemon. I could also have tastes of different foods from curry’s to a full English.
We are All Made of Stars ? The theory that everything is made of stars The theory that everyone and everything on Earth contains minuscule star particles dates back further than Moby’s popular 2002 song “We Are All Made of Stars.” In the early 1980s, astronomer Carl Sagan hosted and narrated a 13-part television series called “Cosmos” that aired on PBS. On the show, Sagan thoroughly explained many science-related topics, including Earth’s history, evolution, the origin of life and the solar system. “We are a way for the universe to know itself. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star stuff,” Sagan famously stated in one episode. His statement sums up the fact that the carbon, nitrogen and oxygen atoms in our bodies, as well as atoms of all other heavy elements, were created in previous generations of stars over 4.5 billion years ago. Because humans and every other animal as well as most of the matter on Earth contain these elements, we are literally made of star stuff, said Chris Impey, professor of astronomy at the University of Arizona. “All organic matter containing carbon was produced originally in stars,” Impey told Life’s Little Mysteries. “The universe was originally hydrogen and helium, the carbon was made subsequently, over billions of years.”
how do stars dust get to earth When it has exhausted its supply of hydrogen, it can die in a violent explostion, called a nova. The explosion of a massive star, called a supernova, can be billions of times as bright as the Sun , according to “Supernova,” (World Book, Inc., 2005). Such a stellar explosion throws a large cloud of dust and gas into space, with the amount and composition of the material expelled varying depending on the type of supernova. A supernova reaches its peak brightness a few days after it first occurred, during which time it may outshine an entire galaxy of stars. The dead star then continues to shine intensely for several weeks before gradually fading from view, according to “Supernova.” The material from a supernova eventually disperses throughout interstellar space. The oldest stars almost exclusively consisted of hydrogen and helium, with oxygen and the rest of the heavy elements in the universe later coming from supernova explosions, according to “Cosmic Collisions: The Hubble Atlas of Merging Galaxies,” (Springer, 2009). “It’s a well-tested theory,” Impey said. “We know that stars make heavy elements, and late in their lives, they eject gas into the medium between stars so it can be part of subsequent stars and planets (and people).”

star dust idea outcomes Animation

I think that a simple animation would be a really good idea to get across the message which is that the universe is one big family. For my animation I would use super high quality images so I will be able to zoom into it and zooming out. I would start the animation on earth zooming into someone all the way to someone’s atoms.
For my prezi idea I would like to utilise the vector capabilities to show case my “star dust” idea. I would like to use PNG’s on my prezi, the PNG’s would consist of matter, atoms, cells, person, earth, space and a galaxy. I would show through the animated prezi how we are all made up of the things from elements to atoms. I feel that I would like to try out prezi and see what it’s like for animating the vector graphics.
Then I would animate the camera zooming out into to a distant galaxy where it would zoom into a planet. It would then zoom into the beings living on the planet and zoom into the same matter what we have in our bodies. This would show that we are the same and would represent that we are family.
MY IDEA My idea is the idea of how everything is made up of the same elements/matter and how everything is connected in that way. I feel that that I could get across in my work that we are all one family in the aspect of that we are all made up of “star dust” and elemental properties. I feel that if I was to get across that the universe is one massive family, it might show any extra-terrestrials that we come in peace. I think that this approach towards the brief would be unique because I don’t think anyone else would look at it in the way am and I feel that this idea has more strong message.

Star dust animation My idea I think that a simple animation would be a really good idea to get across the message which is that the universe is one big family. For my animation I would use super high quality images so I will be able to zoom into it and zooming out. I would start the animation on earth zooming into someone all the way to someone’s atoms. Then I would animate the camera zooming out into to a distant galaxy where it would zoom into a planet. It would then zoom into the beings living on the planet and zoom into the same matter what we have in our bodies. This would show that we are the same and would represent that we are family.
This is the part of the animation where it will show that we are made up off the same atoms and deep down we are all the same.

Gareth Axford Animation Artist What did he work on Gareth Axford is an animator who worked on the famous cartoon WALL-E who was the animator, Illustrator and Digital Designer, Gareth Axford: “Aaaah, Wall-E, loveable, shambolic Wall-E. He’s a metallic Charlie Chaplin! Again, the designers and animators did an amazing job in making it so easy for the audience to connect with a little rusty yellow rubbish collector. Sublime.” Visual Effects Artist and designer of Moon, Gavin Rothery: “Gorgeous design. The texturing of this character is so carefully handled; he’s essentially a scrappy pile of old rubbish himself but he comes across so well onscreen. He has everything he needs to emote to the audience without over-complicating his design. There are many similarities between Wall-E and Johnny 5, which I find strange as I never really bought into the Short Circuit robot (despite him being designed by the legendary Syd Mead), but Wall-E had me from the start. What can i take from this I really like how much passion and detail he put into the WALL-E animation and I feel that he did a really good job on the animation. I also feel the designer and the web designer also did a really good job. I would like to make my animation as detailed in turns of imagery selection and smooth transitions between images.

Space Artist Don davis who is don davis ? Don Davis is a Painter and animator, born Oct. 21, 1952. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, interested in space related things ever since Sputnik 1 was announced to our Kindergarten class. One day his Mother gave him a copy of ‘The World We Live In’, the classic book by Life compiled from a series of articles appearing in the weekly news picture magazine. Probably never has anyone volume presented such a rich collection of excellent nature artists. In the late 1960’s the U.S. Geological Survey’s branch of Astrogeology Studies was involved in a hiring program for high school students as go-fors and for hand colouring copies of geologic maps, long before the days of colour printers. He had brought a recently finished oil painting of the Moon to my job interview in late October 1968. The Geologist, Don Wilhelms, hired him on the spot and soon as he graduated to working as an illustrator for the branch of Astrogeology. Among the projects Wilhelms envisioned for me were a series of portrayals of the Moon in its early history. Artwork of geological features as they developed have periodically appeared in geological literature, but these were global images of a world whose battered history was just being unveiled.
What can i take from this I can see in this man’s work how much passion and detail he puts into the oil paintings he creates. I can also see the amount of work he puts into his 3D animation. I also would like to some incorporate some form of 3D animation into my own animation.

My inspiration My inspiration My true inspiration for creating this style of animation has to be this animation I found on you tube called “Zoom from Earth into Space�. I feel that this video inspired me the most because I found that this video had a good way of showing what it would be like to zoom out of space. I also gained a lot of idea from this animation because now I have the planets going past the camera well zooming out to our galaxy. I also like the effect they used to make this video, the shaking of the camera was a cool implementation of the animator because I feel it creates are more epic scene to appreciate. I also like how this animator represented the closer stars that needed to be animated. What can i take from this animation I really want to recreate the stars and planets that the animator used in the animation because I feel that I could improve them using Photoshop. I also would like to make the zooming out part of the animation shake to give it a good effect and also hide mistakes, if any that it is. I would like to use the same background but I feel it would be better if I created my own background and edited it into my favour throughout the animation to make It more HD.

My inspiration My inspiration I’ve gained a lot of inspiration from general space documentaries at the start of the project because I really wanted to get into the space theme. I feel that this helped me develop my animation idea and get a good understanding of planets in our solar system. I needed to know this because my animation will be based in space and I would need to know about what our galaxy looks like. I also watched some earth documentaries just too into the theme of Earth Artifact, I really took a lot from these documentaries because I feel that I was enthusiastic about sci-fi and general space things. It was a lot easier to get into the documentaries due to the fact I already liked them, I just have to pay more attention to the information.
What can i take from this animation I can really take away the factual aspects in the documentaries about space and earth. I can also take away from this documentaries the CGI they used when they are giving a visual representation of what space would look like in different cinereous. I also learning a lot about space which I enjoy, so I am having fun with the project which is always good because I feel that then I will be more engaged with project.

ANIMATION Techniques What programs im going to use and why
folder system
I will be using Adobe Photoshop to make the images that I will animate. I will create the images in Photoshop because I feel that my images will be the highest quality they can possible be. I think this because I can create my document 1920 x 1080 so that it will be full HD. I also feel that I can create my complicated image in Photoshop that I can animate and keep the best possible outcome.
My file system will consist of six files of images that will have the certain zoom scenes of my animation. I will have will have a main folder for my animation and I will have in that folder:
I will be animated my images in Adobe After Effects so I can animate my images that I created in Photoshop. I will be animating my images by changing the key frames values all the way through the animation. I also will be animating some text throughout the animation because I can easily do it with after effects. I chose Adobe After Effects because I have learned a lot in process and production modules with Sarah’s After effects tutorial lessons. I also have learned a lot of YouTube, to animate my images and changing the time of certain compositions through my animation.
Document setup For my document set up in Photoshop I will be creating a 1920 x 1080 canvas and name it “star dust assets”. I will make my document on Photoshop 1920 x1080 because that is the standard size of all T.V’s. I will be making my document on Adobe After Effects at aspect ratio 1920x 1080 so that the animation will fit the images and will be high quality. I also will make the composition five minutes long for a place holder for now to keep the rendering to a minimum when I’m editing the animation. I did this so it would have less stress on my laptop when editing and rendering.
Creating the assets I will be creating the asses ting Photoshop and will be create a lot of them. I will be making every image between transitions in the animation in Photoshop and will be animating the assets in After Effects. I will also be taking photos of myself for my primary research and using the RAW files in my animation for maximum quality of imagery. I will have to edit some of my primary research with secondary imagery so the transitions between images will make more sense. I will also have to look at music for my animation, I already have an idea of what I want as sound in my animation. I would like some sound effects in my animation such as swooshing sounds when the text zooms in and epic bass sounds to create and epic effect. I would like to have some kind of epic piano music that would complement the space theme.
Transitions between frames I will simply fade each image during the animation to give the effect that the camera is zooming into Earth. I will try to keep all the images duration the same so it will give it more of a fluid motion and will be more effective as an animation. I will also try to create a lot of image so that there won’t be big jumps in the animation during transitions between images.

animation intro Intro to the animation Here is my intro to my Earth Artifact animation I wanted it look and sound epic. I wanted to also look professional, but not boring and it to have my font that I chose for the whole project. I like this font because it’s readable and it looks eroded and earthy, but at the same time it has a space/sci-fi look to it. I really like how my intro turned out because I feel that it looks like it’s a trailer intro to a short film.

Zoom to earth Zooming into huddersfield In these images I designed and made in Photoshop I wanted to show each key point in zooming into earth. For my first image of Earth I needed a good high-quality image that I can scale up and down so that when I zoom in it want pixelate. I found the image on Google manipulated it and cut it out of the original background to match mine. For the other images I needed to find good quality images of Europe and then England. I tried to change the colour balance to suit the next image in line for the animation. I then had to download Google Earth for the images just above Huddersfield because there was no top down images of Huddersfield town. I then had to save the images and then added clouds to one of the images to match the clouds in the previous images.
Zoom to me zooming into castle hill In these images I designed and made in Photoshop I wanted to show each key point in zooming into Castle Hill. For my first image of Castle Hill I needed a good decent quality image that I can scale up and down so that when I zoom in it want pixelate. I found the image on Google maps and manipulated it and cut it out of the original background to match mine. For the other images I needed to find good quality images of castle fill from the side. I then implemented my primary research and integrated the images of me in the images of castle hill. I then moved onto just using the images I took my self on castle hill. The images were really good because they were all very high quality images due to the fact that they were RAW files.
Zoom into the atom Zoom into the link In these images I designed and made in Photoshop I wanted to show each key point in zooming into skin. For my first image of the skin I needed a high-quality image that I can scale up and down so that when I zoom in it want pixelate. I took the image of my hand well I was at castle hill so that I will still have the same lighting. I then manipulated the RAW file to match the same colour balancing of my other images I took. For the other images I needed to find good quality images of skin, skin cells, chromosomes, DNA, molecules and an atom of Google and manipulated then so that they would be the same colour (red). I did this so they won’t be a sudden change in colour so that it will make the animation more naturally flowing. I really like the images I got for the first sequence in my animation because I feel that they complement the animation as a whole.
Zoom out back to earth the Reverse Before the reverse sequence I will have the text “THE ATOM” then the “THE” will stay well “ATOM” will fade to “BOND”, “LINK”, “CONNECTION” then the text “THE” will fade and a half a second later “CONNECTION” will fade out. I wanted this in my animation because I feel that this will inforce my message I want to get across and that how we are all one family in the universe and connected by the same atoms/star dust. After the text art of my animation my animation will reverse about three times as fast back to the earth and slow down momentarily to appreciate the image and the depth of our world. Throughout the zooming out process I want to have some kind of sound effect to give it more of an impact when the animation reverses.
Zoom out to galaxy To the galaxy with problems At this point in my animation I designed and made these images using other images to create my own assets for my animation. I first planned it out like a slide show and then I would fade the images with each other to give the effect they were moving. I first designed every single image so that I would be able to animate it in after effects. I animated the images up to the point where I noticed the background changing, at this point I realised I have made a big mistake. I made the mistake of the background in the zooming out process repeating the zoom out animation. I had to come up with a solution to this problem with my animation. I came up with a solution of going back to all my images and making the animated parts a PNG for example the moon. There for I could individually move then planets and stars with the background not changing. At the point where the background had to start to change I found it very difficult to transition every background well it was zooming out. I couldn’t make one big image and zoom out because then the quality of the image close up would be lost and pixelated.

Evaluation of f irst Half of animation Evaluation I’m really enjoying my animating my animation at the moment, I feel that due to my animation being quite long and in depth that I should make an evaluation half way through my animation. I feel that my animation is looking like what I wanted it look like and I feel it is to a good standard. I also think that the message in my animation I still clear but not obvious so it’s a subtle message. I feel that this is the best way to get across a simple message in an animation by showing my visual representation of what the connection it between us and other beings. Although my animation is going well I feel that I need it revisit some parts of it to make it more clean and professional. For example some of the background transitions are a little out of sync with each other, so I will have to correct them later on. I also really like some aspects of animation because I feel they look realistic and really well done. In the screen shots below of Adobe After Effects with my animation opened are the certain parts of my animation what I really like animating and I feel look the best. The images of the galaxy are the rest of the images in the animation and are the half way point into my animation. I will have the animation slow down here so I the audience can realise how small we actually are compared to the galaxy and the universe.

I really like the idea of combining multiple planet designs to create my own in Photoshop. I can feel this way because I don’t have enough time to completely design a new planet from scratch and I like many elements from all the planets.

designing my alien assets Creating the alien assets Here are my alien assets I designed for my zooming into then alien planet part of my animation. I had to create these images to emphasise that we are all quite similar from the stance of the alien to the molecules. I had to take images of the internet and manipulate them for my alien assets, I would of prefer to create them all form scratch but I just didn’t have enough time to create every individual assets for my animation. I manipulated these images by changing the hue saturation of each image to blue/green colour to match the colour of the alien and the alien planet.
creating the alien? I created the alien by taking an image of some concept art of aliens and cutting it out of the image and placing it onto a jungle back ground. I then manipulated the colour of the alien so that it would match the background and then covered up some of the alien’s leg so that it looks like it is actually there. The original concept of the alien came from Ken Barthelmey he has many alien concepts to a really great slandered, I enjoyed editing his image of the alien. Zoom out to multiple galaxies zoom out multiple galaxies After coming up with a solution to my problem with my animation. I then designed every PNG and animated it with back ground. In these images it will show every mini scene with in the animation which was at this point zooming from our galaxy to multiple galaxies and would show a message to emphasise the message I’m trying to get across. After the message was shown I then animated the images to zoom into an alien galaxies and then to and then to a red dwarf star. I also had some planets on the way to the alien planet animated because I felt it would need some kind of filler towards the alien planet. I then animated the images to the alien planet which was occupied by two moons, I did this because I wanted to emphasise that this is an alien planet. After animating to the alien planet, I then went on to animate to the alien itself, I started animating to the habitat and then to the alien. After animating to the alien I slowed down the animation so that you can appreciate the alien itself. I then animated to the atom and animated some text to finish the animation of, the text read; WE ARE ALL MADE OF STARS. I feel that this was a good way to finish my animation because I think that it’s a good Idea to finish it how it started to remind the viewer what they are watching.

music choices what kind of music i want I feel that my animation would benefit from some really good music to suit the theme of my animation. I really like the idea of having sci-fi music but at the same time it might come across a little too stereotypical for a space animation. I want the music to be more epic than anything because I feel that it will give the whole animation an epic feeling to complement my epic animation. I did some research on epic music and I found a YouTube channel called Keith Merrill were I found a lot of amazingly composed music. I really like the style this musicians work because it mostly has piano’s and great harmonies due to the violins. I feel this kind of music would complement my animation in a really good way. After deciding the kind of music I wanted I chose two songs that would work with my animation. For the first half of my animation I chose “Keith Merrill’s - Epic (Brooding Heroic Powerful Inspiring)” because I really liked how this song started with a build-up of harmonies so it will suit my intro to the animation. For my second part of the animation I chose “Keith Merrill’s Syzygy (Epic Trailer Music)” because I felt this suited the alien part of my animation due to its alien like tune that ran through the whole song. I feel that these a really good choices of songs for my animation, there are also links to the songs and in Keith Merrill’s channel.

Evaluation did my message get across I’m really proud of this project because I feel that I have answered the brief in a unique way and by giving it a really good narrative, the narrative being that we are all connected by our atomic structure and how we are all made up of star dust. I feel that my animation gets across this message really well due to the animating text I incorporated and the detailed images I used. I feel that the effort and time paid off for the final animation because I put a lot of time into this project even though it’s supposed to be a small one.
what i learned After finishing this project I feel that animation I extremely hard to do and is really challenging. This is the first ever animation I have done and I’m really proud of it because I specialise in graphic design, which is really different to animation. I think I have done quite a good job because I didn’t turn up to all of the process and production classes on After Effects, so I had to learn to animate my work through trial and error. Even though I learned most of the animating myself I wouldn’t be able to do it without Sarah because even though I learned the basics in her lessons they paid of well I was animating my Earth Artifact animation.
if i was to redo the animation If I was to revisit my animation I would like to refine the transitions between each frame and I would also like to explore different effects in my animation. I would have liked to add a shaking effect to my animation to give it more of an epic look. I also would have liked to render my animation fully in 1080p without any stuttering because I had to use my laptop to render it which it is not really up to the task. Overall I feel I have answered the brief and I have come up with a great animation or my Earth Artifact animation.
