Syria is currently implementing a comprehensive development policy and overhauling its building, investment, real estate, tourism, and housing sectors. The real estate sector has grown impressively over the past few years due to the implementation of many reforms that promise vast economic growth and facilitate substantial investments. This has influenced the decision among many major international companies to penetrate the market with diverse investments in fields such as tourism, real estate, and the industrial sectors. Many major projects are currently being undertaken by joint ventures between Syrian investors and their Arab and international counterparts. The local real estate industry is expected to maximize growth during the subsiding of the recession, which in turn will boost demand for advanced building and construction materials and technologies. This is what makes BUILDEX a very important event, as the exhibition provides the best platform for companies to capitalize on the active and promising Syrian market, specifically by facilitating productive interaction between suppliers, manufacturers, buyers, importers, engineers, consultants, and decision makers from around the globe. The International Exhibition for Construction – BUILDEX, one of the region’s oldest exhibitions specialized in construction and building materials sector, succeeded over the past 16 editions in enforcing its presence amongst international exhibitions. It is recognized as a major event in the Middle East and North Africa region that cater to the industry, and it became the main gateway to many international companies targeting Syrian and neighboring markets. BUILDEX hosted leading local, Arab, and international companies manufacturing and trading in latest building and construction technologies and materials, covering areas such as Heavy Machinery and Equipment, Stone and Marble, Bathrooms, Ceramic and Sanitary Ware, Cladding and Facades, Paints and Finishes, Insulation Materials, HVAC, Water Technologies, Electricity and Energy, Garden Equipment and Swimming Pools Supplies, Environmental Sustainability, Raw Materials and related Services. The 16th edition of BUILDEX, the International Exhibition for Construction gathered visitors from diverse nationalities and specialties to several business meetings and activities during its five-day run. According to the participants, BUILDEX 2010 set new records in volume of participation as well as in terms of the number and value of business generated. The strong figures affirm the positive stature of the exhibition and its role in the development of the building and construction sector in Syria and the region. They also reflect the improving state of the regional economy following the repercussions of the global economic crisis.

BUILDEX 2010 received numerous officials and commercial delegations from Turkey, Italy and representatives from Taiwan Trade Center in Dubai; delegates from the Iraqi Ministry of Housing and Construction and Jordan Engineers Association; the National President of the General Association of Algerian Contractors and the Manager of the National Federation of Building and Construction Contractors representing more than 52 Algerian contractors; representatives from Syria’s various contracting and engineering firms were also present in addition to commercial delegations and businessmen from Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt.

Arabian Group for Exhibitions and Conferences offered luxury Free Shuttle Services from citycentre to the fairground and vice-versa as part of its campaign “Park Your Car and Join Us by Bus”, which aims to assist in preserving the environment, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing the awareness of mass transportation. In addition to that, mini buses were available to transport visitors across the venue.

The total value of investments in real estate and tourism sectors in Syria reached about 750 billion Syrian Pounds which is 75% of the total investments employed in the Syrian economy in 2009.

In addition to cities’ new expansion areas and random housing areas, the Ministry of Local Administration in Syria will be presenting more than 45 Real Estate Development Zones during The First International Conference for Development and Real Estate Investment which will be held in September 2010.

There are 37 real estate developers from the Gulf area operating in Syria, of which 11 Emirati, 9 Saudi, 8 Kuwaiti and 2 Qatari.

OF DEVELOPMENT & INVESTMENT REAL ESTATE The Syrian government issued the Law No. 15 of 2008 on setting up the General Commission for Real Estate Development and Investment (GCREDI) to organize dealings and encourage investment in this sector. The issuance of the Mortgage Law, No. 39 date 30/12/2009 legislating mortgage finance came as the culmination of all previous government efforts to support real estate developments and investment.

‫دعمت المجموعة العربية نشاطها‬ ‫وابتداء من عام ‪َّ 1990‬‬ ‫في لبنان حيث نظمت سلسلة من المعارض مثل معرض‬ ‫الماركات العالمية‪ ،‬معرض الصناعات السورية‪ ،‬معرض‬ ‫المشاريع العقارية وغيرها‪ .‬وأطلقت عام ‪ 1995‬معرض‬ ‫البناء وآفاق المستقبل « بيلدكس» بعد تزايد وتيرة حملة‬ ‫اإلعمار في لبنان‪.‬‬ ‫مع بداية االنفتاح في القوانين االقتصادية السورية‬ ‫وتزايد االهتمام بالسوق السورية من قبل الدول العربية‬ ‫واألوروبية وتعطش السوق السورية لعدد كبير من‬ ‫البضائع… أطلقت المجموعة العربية الدورة الثانية من‬ ‫معرض بيلدكس ‪ -‬المعرض الدولي للبناء عام ‪ 1996‬في‬ ‫دمشق‪ .‬ومنذ ذلك الوقت تطور معرض بيلدكس وأخذ‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫عاما بعد عام‪.‬‬ ‫ونجاحا‬ ‫مساحة‬ ‫يزداد‬

As well in 1998 ARABIAN GROUP organized ‘The 1st

Arabian Industrial Exhibition’ and ‘The 8th Congress for Industrial Development in Arab countries’ under the patronage of the the President of The Syrian Arab Republic along with the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Industrial Development and Mining. ‘The Third annual meeting of Syrian Cardiovascular Association’ was organized by ARABIAN GROUP in 1998 in cooperation with the Syrian cardiovascular association and Syrian Physicians Union, in addition to organizing ‘SHAAM Exhibition for Information and Communication Technologies’ under the supervision of the Syrian Computer Society since 2007. Based on our success and extensive experience in organizing major events, ARABIAN GROUP had the honor to organize several foreign exhibitions and conferences out of Syria such as ‘Emirates in Syria’ in 2001 in cooperation with the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce & Industry, and ‘Mersin Agriculture Fair’, ‘Arts and Handicrafts Fair’ and ‘Sudan Build’ in 2006 - 2007 in cooperation with Forum Fairs & Promotions. ‫نظمت «المعرض الصناعي العربي األول» إضافة إلى‬ ‫«المؤتمر الثامن للتنمية الصناعية في الدول العربية»‬ ‫بإشراف وزارة الصناعة وبالتعاون مع المنظمة العربية‬ ‫للتنمية الصناعية والتعدين تحت رعاية رئيس الجمهورية‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫والفتا‪،‬‬ ‫كبيرا‬ ‫عربيا‬ ‫اهتماما‬ ‫العربية السورية واللذين حققا‬ ‫باإلضافة إلى تنظيمها المميز لـ»المؤتمر السنوي الثالث‬ ‫للرابطة السورية ألمراض وجراحة القلب واألوعية» بالتعاون‬ ‫مع نقابة أطباء سورية والرابطة السورية ألمراض وجراحة‬ ‫القلب واألوعية باإلضافة إلى تنظيمها لمعرض تكنولوجيا‬ ‫المعلومات واالتصاالت «شام» بإشراف الجمعية العلمية‬ ‫السورية للمعلوماتية منذ عام ‪.2007‬‬ ‫كان للمجموعة العربية الشرف في تنظيم مجموعة من‬ ‫المعارض الخارجية كـ «معرض اإلمارات في سورية»‬ ‫بالتعاون مع اتحاد غرف التجارة والصناعة اإلماراتي عام‬ ‫‪ ،2001‬ومعارض ‪– Agriculture Fair - SUDAN BUILD‬‬ ‫‪ »Arts And Handicrafts Fair‬بالتعـــــــاون مع شـــــركـــــــة‬ ‫‪ Forum Fairs and Promotion‬بين عامي ‪ 2006‬و‪.2007‬‬ ‫ومنذ عام ‪ 2007‬والمجموعة العربية تنظم المؤتمر‬ ‫التخصصي في طب األسنان بالتعاون مع مكتب ممارسة‬ ‫المهنة ‪ -‬كلية طب األسنان – جامعة دمشق ومؤتمر نقابة‬ ‫أطباء دمشق بالتعاون مع نقابة األطباء – فرع دمشق‪.‬‬ ‫ً‬ ‫إنطالقا من حرص المجموعة العربية على مواكبة التسارع‬ ‫العلمي والصناعي الذي يشهده العالم وعلى تقديم كل‬ ‫ما هو جديد‪ ،‬تعتبر المجموعة السباقة والرائدة في إطالق‬ ‫المعارض التخصصية الجديدة التي تعنى بتغطية اهم‬ ‫القطاعات واإلختصاصات المتميزة والمتنامية في سوريا‬ ‫ً‬ ‫حاليا على التجهيز إلطالق مجموعة عن المعارض‬ ‫وتعمل‬ ‫الجديدة لعامي ‪ 2010‬و‪ 2011‬تعنى بصناعات ومجاالت‬ ‫متخصصة كالسجاد واألقمشة المنزلية‪ ،‬التدفئة والتهوية‬ ‫والتكييف‪ ،‬تقنيات المياه‪ ،‬اإلنارة والطاقات المتجددة‪،‬‬ ‫البيطرة والثروة الحيوانية‪ ،‬الجمال وصناعة التجميل‪،‬‬ ‫مستلزمات األمهات واألطفال وذلك بالتعاون مع عدد من‬ ‫الشركات العالمية الرائدة في مجال تنظيم المعارض‪.‬‬
