Your Anointing and How to Use It

omans 8:37 says that “we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us” (AMP). This means that believers in Jesus are empowered by God to have victory over sin and the things in this world that try to keep us from living a godly life. So what’s the key to living in God’s power? The anointing. The anointing is God’s ability in you to enable you to do something with ease, without it

Seek and cultivate our own personal, intimate relationship with God first and foremost.

being a struggle. Much like a car’s engine eventually won’t run very well without motor oil; trying to do life without the anointing will leave us with some issues. Every one of us has a calling on our life. But not everyone does what they are called to do in life. Many times, people get distracted by other pursuits…get overwhelmed by a task that feels too big to handle…or they may even get caught up in trying to do what someone else is called to do. And if we’re not living in God’s will for our lives, we’ll end up being anxious, sad and miserable. Whatever the reason is for getting off track, lack of sensitivity to the Holy Spirit is most likely at the root of it. You see, the Holy Spirit is our Helper, 4

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

our Guide, our Teacher, and more. He is the One who leads each person to the work they are called to do. And He also supplies the anointing, or power, to do it. So, it is in our best interest to seek and cultivate our own personal, intimate relationship with God first and foremost. Because it’s through a personal relationship with Him that He will, by His Holy Spirit, lead and guide each of us according to His purpose and plan for our lives. And He will anoint, or enable us, to do what He has called each of us to do with our lives.

Empty Your Glass

The secret is taking time to get satisfied with God Himself. God’s presence—His love and grace— is what we really need to be fulfilled and have His power in our lives. But know that in this time, there is a lot going on. While we take the time to cultivate our relationship with God…simply loving Him and being loved by Him…we become consecrated to Him. To be consecrated means to be set apart, or separated, for a purpose. It is a time for receiving discipline, guidance, wisdom and direction from the Lord. It’s a personal time… between you and God…a time for you to learn His true character and how to trust His way and wait on His timing. You will also learn how to make yourself avail-

able as He is ready to use you. The Holy Spirit decides when and how to use His vessels. Our part is simple—to be available. It’s like this: If I want a drink of water, I go to my cupboard for a clean, empty glass to use. The glass doesn’t ask me what I’m going to put in it…it is just there; ready and available for me to use when I need it. But what if all the glasses are dirty or filled with something I don’t want? Then I won’t be able to use any of them as I planned. So, be like a clean, empty, available drinking glass. Your time “on the shelf,” is simply time to prepare yourself, by building your relationship with God. Then you will be ready for the Holy Spirit to use you however and wherever He chooses.

Release Your Anointing!

Your part also includes realizing and understanding that you are anointed. Everyone is anointed for something…called to do something. First John 2:20 says, “You have been anointed by [you hold a sacred appointment from, you have been given an unction from] the Holy One….” Believe that! Look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I am anointed!” It’s very important to remember that we are anointed by the Holy Spirit. We are righteous by the power of Christ in our lives, so any effort on our part to be right by “doing” is like trying to sit in a chair you are already sitting in! Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of trying to get something you already have. You are anointed! The way to release and let that anointing flow in your life is simple: obedience to the Holy Spirit right now! Cultivate sensitivity to Him and learn to follow that “unction” in your heart (see 1 John 2:20). The anointing is for now…whether you are working on a detailed report for your boss, preparing a Sunday sermon for church, or making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for your kids…you are anointed for this moment. Don’t worry about when it will come; it is in you…right now!

Six Years Ago

ix years ago, in a little studio on White Plains Road in the Bronx, NY, was born Adonai Magazine; a Christian publication that has served to advertize otherwise unknown churches, Christian Ministries, and Ministers of the Word of God, over an expansive area of the United States and beyond in the thousands; and provided spiritual nutrition for more than a million Christians in the United states of America. We give thanks and glory to God for bringing us this far in His service, as we celebrate Adonai Magazine’s sixth year in print. We have over this period risen from an initial 5,000 copies a month that covered only the tri-State region of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, to an encouraging 30,000 copies a month magazine that reaches over 12 states in the United States and the Bahamas. Little did we anticipate such a success story for a magazine that was not given the chance to last six months by some naysayers. We have had our share of difficulties, disappointments, seeming impossible odds and opposition from unlikely quarters; but have lived to see the hand of God make a way for the publication to be out on time each month. What can we say about the ensemble of internationally renowned men and women of God who have chosen to be part of the Adonai Permanent Columnists Team? Many were those who doubted our chances of success when we revealed our desire to bring them on board; but here we are today with the pages of Adonai magazine consistently graced by such wonderful men and women of God: Men and women of great repute in Evangelical Circles such as, Pastor Abraham Obadare, the Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church WOSEM, a man of great faith and an apostolic teacher of the word of God; Rev. Jimmy Evans, who is a constant feature on TBN and Day Star Christian Television Networks - a respected voice on Christian marriage in the United States and beyond; and Rev. Joyce Meyer, a darling voice on Christian growth and maturity, who is also a constant face on TBN and Day 6

There is also Dr. Myles Munroe an international bible teacher of great repute respected by evangelicals the world over; Dr. Michael Joseph Of TBN fame, an inspirational and insightful teacher of the word; Dr. Ralph Wilson, a nationally-renowned teacher of the Word of God; Rev. Creflo Dollar who needs no introduction to the evangelical community in the United States and beyond; and Dr. Kelafo Collie MD. The list will not be complete without mentioning Dr. William D. Watley of St. Philips AME Church in Atlanta Georgia, that great inspirational teacher and writer, and the many wonderful unsung men and women of God who have contributed to our literally columns in the past and the present. These Servants of God have helped to make our insightful articles the favorite reading of many who patronize the magazine from month to month as we strive to give our readers the equivalent of the whole counsel of God in the respective columns. We gladly share with them the joys of this occasion. Thank you and God richly bless you and your various ministries. The Adonai team, comprising Mr. Henry Ayensu, the Publisher, Mr. Franklin Kyei – Editor-in-Chief, and Ms. Elsie Kwapong – Advertising Manager, owe our success story to God, the above mentioned columnists; and to you, our patrons, who advertise in the magazine and utilize it as a primary and secondary source of information and spiritual food respectively. You give meaning and purpose to our efforts, and have made us also-runs fruitful in the service of the Lord. You gave us the reason to start the Adonai Christian Magazine, and have given us the much-needed support to come this far. We, therefore, invite you to celebrate our success story on the sixth anniversary of our launching. GOD BLESS EVERYONE ONE OF YOU for making Adonai Magazine what it is today.

“God’s Solution-Good Government”

onsider the following statements in biblical record: “When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens— and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work [manage or administrate] the ground…” (Gen 2:4b-6). From these verses we see that the Creator allowed no productive growth to take place on the earth because “there was no man to work the

man’s declartion of independence from the government of heaven, resulted in anarchy, social and spiritual chaos. ground.” The word “work” here implies management, administration, orderly development, and making fruitful. Thus, one of the principal motives for the creation of man was to provide a manager, administrator, and ruler of the planet earth. According to Scripture, the word “dominion” translates from Hebrew, meaning kingdom, sovereign rule, or government (Gen 1:26). Therefore, the first command given to man by his Creator was to establish a “government” on the earth to destroy chaos and to maintain order. Government is God’s solution to disorder. The logical conclusion one can derive from this scenario is, first of all, that government is God’s 8

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

idea. Second, according to Scripture, the absence or lack of correct government will always lead to chaos and disorder. Third, that wherever there is chaos, disorder, or lack of productivity, the answer is correct government. The fall of mankind as recorded in Genesis was the result of man declaring independence from the government of heaven, resulting in anarchy, social and spiritual chaos. Ever since that fatal fall from governing grace, man has been attempting to establish a form of self-government that would alleviate the internal and external chaos he continues to experience.

The fall of man was not the loss of heaven but rather the loss of the Kingdom government of heaven on earth. Any honest human taking a serious look at the conditions of our planet would have to conclude that earth is in need of a new, or in this case, an alternative form of government. The spiritual, social, economic, physical, environmental, and cultural conditions of our earth demand a government that is superior to any we have yet invented. So what is the answer to the government issue? Perhaps the answer to man’s need for an effective and just government is found in the first official words of Jesus 2,000 years ago, as He announced His primary mission and commented on the human condition. The Bible records, “From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near’” (Matt 4:17). The Kingdom of God is the solution.

The Promise Of The Father

ACTS 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

B

efore Jesus went back to heaven, He told His disciples to “wait for the Promise of the Father”. (Acts 1:4) There are thousands of promises in the Bible, so which promise was He referring to?

Your life will never be the same if you receive the promise and abide to His leadings. He is your counselor, prayer partner, comforter...

not say, “You shall do witnessing,” but “You shall be witnesses”. In other words, your very person will be a witness to Him! This is because the power you receive when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit is the same power that so anointed Peter that the sick were laid on the streets for his shadow to fall on them and heal them. (Acts 5:15) Even handkerchiefs and aprons from Paul’s body were so saturated with the anointing of the Spirit that when they touched the sick, people witnessed diseases and evil spirits leaving the sick! (Acts 19:12)

The early church knew which promise Jesus was referring to because He had told His disciples, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the Promise of the Father, which you have heard Me speak about. For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:4–5) Jesus was referring to the baptism in the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues. (Acts 2:1–4)

That same power caused a Holy Spirit-baptized church member, who prayed in tongues, to experience God’s healing power when he laid hands on his mother who was in an advanced stage of cancer. And because she was healed, she became a witness of the love and power of God to her friends and unbelieving relatives.

Jesus wants you to know the value of the Promise of the Father because He said, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me...” He did

Beloved, when you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you will be a witness to others that no problem, trial, disease or sickness is a match for the power of the Spirit in you!

How to Pray for our Children

Adonai Magazine is 6years old. Hurray!!! Join us, as we thank Lord for how far he has brought us. I believe it is the responsibility of every parent to pray for his or her children, knowing the times we are living in. It is not enough as a parent to take them to church and read the bible to them, or give them the best education without interceding for them in prayer in every area of their lives. God has placed in our mouths the authority to

The future of our children is in our hands as parents, lets not just educate them, but pray the will of God for their lives. speak blessings into their lives and back such pronounced blessings with prayer. Prayer is the only key to access the will of God for their lives. The bible says in “Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” To help you realize the blessings and reward in your child who is a gift from God, I have put together 31 prayer points with bible references that will help us pray the will of God into their lives, so they can fulfill their God-given destiny on earth.

1. Salvation—"Lord, let salvation spring up within my children, that they may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory." (Isa. 45:8; 2 Tim. 2:10)

4. Honesty and Integrity—"May integrity and honesty be their virtue and their protection." (Ps. 25:21)

5. Self-Control—"Father, help my children not to be like many others around them, but let them be alert and self-controlled in all they do." (1 Thess. 5:6)

Foods That Cause Bloating

ne second, your stomach is flat. The next, it’s too swollen to squeeze into your jeans, and you’re burpy and gassy to boot. If bloating sounds like the opposite of fun, well, an army of voices have already made that case. But the good news is we can often take steps to prevent it. Indeed, what we eat and drink plays a direct role in bloating. Experts recommend avoiding these dietary choices. Legumes If you need to fit into a tight dress, steer clear of beans, lentils and peas. Some of the sugars they contain are difficult for the body to break down, which leads to gas and bloating. Dairy products

Eating the right food and amount can have a good impact on your body size.

If you have lactose intolerance – which means your body doesn’t have the necessary enzymes to break down sugar – dairy products will trigger bloating. There’s no need to remove milk from your diet, simply opt for the lactose-free variety.

Asparagus, broccoli and cabbage Sure, the green stuff is nutritious. But these veggies also contain raffinose, a sugar that remains undigested until it reaches the large intestine, where it’s fermented by methane-producing bacteria. Eat these in moderation, and couple them with other foods – doing so will help prevent bloating. And keep in mind: “Your body probably digests them better when they’re cooked, not raw,” Sugarless gum Nurturing a gum habit? The bad news is that the sugarless kind typically contains sorbitol, a sugar 22

alcohol known for causing bloating and other gastrointestinal distress. That extends to other artificially-sweetened foods and drinks, too. Try to stick to 2 or 3 servings of these a day, if you can’t eliminate them completely. “The digestive system doesn’t love fake foods,”

Apples An apple a day may keep the doctor away – but it’ll make your belly look a bit swollen in the process. Some people have trouble tolerating fructose, a sugar found in apples and other fruits. Plus, apples are high in fiber, which can contribute to a bloated feeling, Gans says. Try eating half or a quarter of a serving at a time to minimize swelling.

Frozen dinners and processed food Watch out for microwavable meals and canned soups, Gans warns, along with bottled salad dressing, condiments and sauces, which are typically high in salt. “Sodium can be a real trigger, especially for women,” “Read labels carefully and search for lower sodium products.”

Carbonated drinks Used to chugging a few sodas a day? That could explain your bloating problems. The air bubbles in carbonated drinks – even if they’re diet – will expand inside your GI tract, “causing it to swell like a balloon filled with air,” says registered dietitian Cynthia Sass

Bulky meals Perhaps it’s not surprising that chowing down on a large quantity of food in one short sitting can trigger GI problems. When your stomach is fully expanded, it can hold about six cups of food – think six tennis balls, “That includes salads, so focus on portion sizes, By ANGELA HAUPT (http://health.usnews.com)

Untreated Wounds and Inner Vows

W

henever I speak about "the hurt pocket," I almost always ask the audience a simple question: "How many of you would say you’ve experienced an event in your life that was emotionally devastating? Something so wounding that it actually altered your personality—maybe even your future?" Without exception, almost every hand is raised. I then ask a follow-up question: "How many would say this painful issue has been resolved?" Now, the response is entirely different. A few hands might lift, but the vast majority of those in attendance remain completely silent.

Often we ignore the wound and pretend it doesn’t exist. That’s a mistake

It’s unscientific, but this evidence convinces me of two things. First, life hurts. We are all touched by heartache, and in some cases the pain is so devastating that it redirects the course of our lives. Secondly, our pain is seldom resolved. Few of us are equipped to properly process our hurts, so they remain buried deep within us. These wounds impact every area of our lives: our families, friends, marriage, children, faith, and even our relationship with God. Wounds must be tended. A cut must be cleaned out and protected to avoid infection. We douse injuries in alcohol and antibiotic. We apply bandages to help wounds heal. It’s much harder to deal with inner wounds. That pain may be just as destructive, but because we can’t always see the injury, we don’t know how to 24

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

treat it. Often we ignore the wound and pretend it doesn’t exist. That’s a mistake. The wound festers. An infection spreads, and before we know it, this toxic emotional pain has scarred and damaged us. So instead of treating the wound, we make inner vows to help us avoid further pain. These are unhealthy promises we make to comfort ourselves in times of frustration or difficulty:

• No one will ever treat me like that again. • I’ll never let myself be poor. • I’ll never force my children to go to church. • I’ll never let anyone break my heart like that again. Inner vows cause us to overreact, and they can become the guiding force of our lives. They don’t just undermine our emotional stability. They also damage our relationships—including our relationship with God—and cause us to act out in unhealthy, irrational ways. Inner vows are sinful. They create in us a heart of stone. But through the prophet Ezekiel, God tells us this: "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh" (Ezek. 36:26). God can remove the hardness from our hearts if we allow Him. God promises a new heart and a new spirit. He promises freedom. We find it when we surrender our inner vows to God. We give Him complete and total access to those painful parts of ourselves and ask Him to perform a miracle in our heart and spirit. I know He can do it, because He’s done it for me. He can heal you, too. Blessings,

Gain God's Attention

In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat and the nation of Israel had to make a defining decision. They were about to be attacked by two formidable enemies and, from where Israel stood, there did not appear to be a way of escape. Jehoshaphat immediately declared a season of fasting and prayer. The entire nation gathered to seek help from the Lord. They prayed:

You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm ... O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. ... For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you (2 Chronicles 20:6, 12). Have you ever heard someone pray with power and determination to gain God’s attention? This is exactly what the nation of Israel did. They turned their hearts to God through prayer and praise. God is faithful. 26

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

His answer came swiftly:

You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you. ... Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you (2 Chronicles 20:17). The next morning, instead of marching into battle with bows drawn, Jehoshaphat and the nation of Israel marched forward with a song of praise on their lips. God confused their enemies to such a degree that the Israelites never had to fire one single arrow. Satan hates to hear words of praise spoken to the Lord. He knows His defeat is sure each and every time we praise God. Are you praising God for His presence and power in your life? Prayer: Lord, it is not my power but Yours that grants me victory. You are greater than anything that could ever come against me. Thank You, Lord, for Your powerful love! I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever” (2 Chronicles 20:21).
