TIPS we ADORE
A SIMPLIFIED GUIDE TO DRESS SHOPPING. By Kristen Wagner The perfect wedding dress is a fantasy that many women take with them through multiple life stages – from playtime as a little girl, to first love and first heartbreak, and eventually engagement. The dream of the perfect dress is closely tied to the dream of one day finding Mr. Right. But when the time comes to make the fantasy a reality, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed at the choices available. Surprisingly, “white” comes in a plethora of shades, and cuts and styles are as plentiful as toasters at a gift opening.

“I love being there for that special moment with the bride and her family. “
She recommends bringing in a few photos of gowns that appeal to you. Sometimes a similar dress is available in the store. Other times, the photos just help the consultant get an idea of the shape, style or fabric the bride is looking for. In short, if your consultant recommends trying a gown on, you should probably try it on. “We have so many gowns that don’t have hanger appeal but look beautiful on a body,” Chelsey says. “As consultants, we know the shapes of the gowns, how they fit, where they’re tight and where they’re loose.” Without the help of a consultant, you may pass right by your dream gown without looking twice. Consultants also help brides style their weddings—picking out colours and styles for bridesmaid dresses, headpieces, veils and jewelry. Before coming to Bliss, Chelsey spent several years as a wedding planner, and that experience helps her see how the bride’s look will fit in with the rest of her wedding.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST WEDDING TREND WHEN YOU GOT MARRIED? AMY: Outdoor, natural and rustic OR very traditional and regal. Princess style dresses or minimal. There wasn’t as much selection as there is now. It was one or the other. It’s amazing seeing how much weddings have changed since then and its only been 10 years. I think weddings weren’t quite an industry then. We went with evening wedding…outdoor ,natural and beauty! Ceremony at 7pm and cocktail party following. Pictures were all done on site. We wanted to be present and remember everything! BEST MEMORY OF THE DAY? AMY: Getting married! Mardy’s face said it all! His expression was something I will never forget. An the party of course. Mardy’s twin brother had a hilarious speech that made the crowd roar! Its was so awesome having all of our nearest and dearest with us to celebrate our wedding day. It was a great great evening! MARDY: There were so many. Firstly seeing Amy looking at me, she was gorgeous! A close second, when they pronounced us husband and wife, I was so proud. “Mr and Mrs Matson”, third My brother Jeremy (best man) speech…something to never forget! WINTER 2013

ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT YOUR WEDDING DAY? AMY: Not much actually. It was a beautiful Okanagan evening near the lake and everything went smoothly. For us it was about getting married to each other, not the perfect wedding. MARDY: Wouldn’t change a thing, other than I would have worn white because I was so hot in a black suit! WHAT ARE SOME TIPS TO A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE? AMY: Always be willing to compromise, laughter cures almost everything and don’t go to bed angry. Make fun plans…life can be so redundant in day to day tasks….need to spice it up. MARDY: Always listen to each other, openly and honestly with out judgement. Look at each other everyday and genuinely say I love you and always support one another. BIGGEST LESSON YOUR PARTNER HAS TAUGHT YOU? AMY: To show my love in different ways, not just say I love you and to not sweat the small stuff. MARDY: A happy wife is a happy life, to be less selfish and more giving. TRAVEL BACK IN TIME – WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR SELF ON YOUR WEDDING DAY? AMY: Marriage is full of challenges but nothing worthwhile comes without effort and work and this man loves you :) MARDY: Amy is an amazing mother and wife… and she still looks Good!! AMY: See what I have to put up with?

LIMELIGHT STUDIO
BY CHRISTIE CAMPBELL As a kid, Tim Feeny was the Spielberg of his neighbourhood. He grew up hauling around the family video camera—the kind that weighed as much as a small dog and used videotapes that only recorded 90 minutes worth of adventures. Since then, video technology has become so popular and so accessible that even children and the technically challenged can easily share their thoughts on current events or off-key renditions of popular songs with the world through video. However, it wasn’t a Lady Gaga tune that inspired Tim to begin a career as a wedding videographer; it was love.

t just 20 years old, Tim was planning his own wedding with his bride-tobe. As a fan of film, Tim knew he
wanted to preserve on film the moment when he married the love of his life. With a quick internet search, he discovered something incredible and inspiring: as technology advanced, wedding videos had changed completely. They were no longer shaky recordings by family members; they employ sophisticated editing and shooting techniques, and even plot. Gone were the days of blurry images, fuzzy sound, and choppy editing. Tim found that modern wedding videos told the story of a relationship rather than simply capturing an event. Tim was struck with the artistry of these personal films and sought a mentorship with the videographer who captured his wedding. He quickly learned the craft and created Limelight Studios, filming weddings professionally with his wife, Melanie. Together they have handcrafted over 150 wedding and corporate films and will be celebrating their studio’s tenth anniversary this January.

TIPS we ADORE
PUT THE SOCIAL IN SOCIAL MEDIA BY COURTNEY STARHEIM Social media is embedded in our day-to-day life; in fact, for most of us, social media facilitates the majority of our daily interactions with others. We use social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay in touch, share updates, and celebrate milestones; it’s only natural that social media has found its way into wedding celebrations. That said, before uploading a photo of the happy couple saying “I Do,” it is important to remember your social media wedding etiquette. What, pray tell, is social media wediquette? Well that’s where it gets interesting: it varies from couple to couple.

When we think of wedding etiquette we may think of toasts, attire, glass clinking, and perhaps even dance moves. Today, we must also think of social media. Photos, videos, tweets, and check-ins are fluid in our society. While we can control what we share about ourselves, we can’t always control what others share about us. When planning your wedding it is important to determine how you feel about social media: what roll, if any, will it play? Regardless, we must all be reminded to be social first, media second. #Cheers!

To all the new brides. Weddings don’t have to be stressful. Pick a gorgeous location so little decorations need to be done which is also cost effective. Hire amazing photographers so that even if you did a horrible job setting up they’ll make it look amazing in the photos. Half of our budget went to getting the best photographer, you only do this once and the photos you’ll have forever. I used Vintage Origami for a few key pieces and decorated the room the night before. The morning of the wedding I was cutting flower stems and assembling the aisle runner decorations that were also used as part of the table decorations later on. I also made my own bouquet and my maid of honours bouquet and just tied a bit of lace around the stem. Make use of your family and friends to help. It is key to remember that not everything will be perfect. It is just not worth it to stress out over the little things. Also, the first glance photos are amazing because you get more time for the photos without keeping people waiting for ages between the ceremony and reception.
