FROM THE PRINCIPAL DE LA DIRECTORA GENERAL
Dr Iara Lindemann Founding Principal The dawn of the second year in the history of International College (IC) invites us to pause and reflect on what has been achieved. To transform a dream into reality requires more than hard work, resilience and commitment. It relies on professionalism, equilibrium and love. This is how the Senior Leadership Team embarked upon this thrilling experience, with a dedicated team of Staff, supported by Parents and the Board of Governors. Our pedagogical model promotes excellence in education through a careful combination of values and beliefs embodied in the IC ‘learner profile’. The uniqueness of our educational project, with a balance between the national and international curricula, where English and Spanish receive equal attention, resides precisely in how the learning activity is delivered. As mentioned in the Founding Principal’s speech at the launching ceremony in 2016: “We believe that 21st century students, in their pursuit of happiness, should ‘learn how to learn’, being provided with a challenging and holistic values-based education, with emphasis on academic achievement, leadership, teamwork and service. On their graduation day we expect them to be internationally minded team players and confident leaders, who lead when they can and follow when they should. Above all, we wish them to have at their core a strong sense of identity incorporating a critical thinking mind-set to become masters of their own future, at ease beyond borders, transcending the ordinary in all they choose to do.” The path to building a new school is not easy but is surely an extremely rewarding process. We thank each and every one who contributed to the creation of International College and look forward to an exciting year ahead.
El amanecer del segundo año en la historia de International College nos invita a hacer una pausa y reflexionar sobre lo que se ha logrado. Transformar un sueño en realidad requiere más que trabajo arduo, perseverancia y compromiso. Se basa en el profesionalismo, el equilibrio y el amor. Así es como el Senior Leadership Team (equipo directivo) se embarcó en esta emocionante experiencia con un equipo dedicado, apoyado por los padres y el Board of Governors. Nuestro modelo pedagógico promueve la excelencia en la educación a través de una cuidadosa combinación de valores e ideales incorporadas en el perfil de aprendizaje de IC. La singularidad de nuestro proyecto educativo, con un equilibrio entre el currículo nacional e internacional, donde el inglés y el español reciben la misma atención, reside precisamente en la forma en que se imparte la actividad de aprendizaje. Como se mencionó en la ceremonia de lanzamiento del colegio en 2016: “Creemos que los estudiantes del siglo XXI, en su búsqueda de la felicidad, deben ‘aprender a aprender’, recibiendo una educación desafiante e integral fundamentada en valores, con énfasis en la educación académica basada en el liderazgo, trabajo en equipo y servicio. En el día de su graduación esperamos que sean integrantes de un equipo, líderes seguros con mentalidad internacional. Cuando deban liderar, lideren; cuando deban acompañar, acompañen. Sobre todo, deseamos que tengan en su núcleo un fuerte sentido de identidad que incorpore una mentalidad de pensamiento crítico para convertirse en maestros de su propio futuro, más allá de las fronteras, trascendiendo la norma en todo lo que elijan hacer “. El desafío de construir un colegio nuevo no es fácil, pero lo que es seguro es que es un proceso extremadamente gratificante. Agradecemos a todos y cada uno de los que contribuyeron a la creación de International College y auguramos un emocionante camino por delante.

WHO WE ARE QUIENES SOMOS
International College (IC) is a bilingual school that aims to lead in education at national and regional levels by enabling students to acquire XXI Century skills and achieve the best results through a rigorous and comprehensive international and Uruguayan curricula. Sports, the Arts, and Academics rooted in Technology are the main pillars upon which IC stands. The learning environment fosters creativity and innovation, encouraging students to reach their full potential and be masters of their own destiny. Students are exposed to a diverse community which seeks to promote an open dialogue and fertile soil for the exchange of ideas. Teamwork, community service, and fellowship are central to the students’ actions. STUDENT SERVICES CENTRE DEPARTAMENTO PSICOPEDAGÓGICO
International College offers a Student Services Centre, consisting of a Counselor, psychologists, ‘psicopedagogas’ and a specialist in psychomotricity skills. These specialists evaluate students upon entering the School to identify possible educational and/or emotional needs, in order to appropriately guide them in their individual personal and social development. The psycho-pedagogical support begins at the age of two with psychologists and specialized professionals who work together with the children from the beginning of their personal and academic evolution.

International College dispone de un Departamento Psicopedagógico compuesto por dos psicopedagogas, una consejera y una psicomotricista. Dicho departamento evalúa a los estudiantes a su ingreso para identificar tempranamente y dar seguimiento a posibles necesidades educativas y/o emocionales. El apoyo psicopedagógico comienza a los dos años de edad con psicólogos y profesionales especializados para trabajar junto a los niños desde el inicio en su desarrollo personal y académico hasta completar su etapa escolar con el fin de guiarlos en su crecimiento personal y social.

LANGUAGES IDIOMAS
At International College, language teaching aims to provide opportunities through which students develop strong communication skills and comprehend linguistic and cultural concepts in the process of acquiring broad knowledge, whilst interacting fully, as global citizens, with the world they live in. The Uruguayan national curriculum is taught in Spanish; the international curriculum is carried out in English. Students also have language acquisition of Portuguese in Primary and Mandarin Chinese in Secondary, two key and complementary languages aimed at helping students to broaden their horizons into the global community. En International College la enseñanza de idiomas tiene como finalidad brindar oportunidades a través de las cuales los estudiantes puedan adquirir conocimientos, dominar las habilidades de comunicación y comprender conceptos lingüísticos y culturales para poder interactuar plenamente con el mundo. El currículo nacional uruguayo se dicta en castellano mientras que los currículos internacionales se dictan en idioma inglés. Los estudiantes también tienen materias de adquisición de idiomas adicionales como portugués en Primary y chino mandarín en Secondary, dos idiomas claves y complementarios que ayudan en la proyección del alumno al exterior.

WE ARE AN IB WORLD SCHOOL SOMOS UN COLEGIO DEL MUNDO DEL IB
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a high quality educational pathway which encourages 16-19 years old students to excel academically and personally by acquiring skills, knowledge and understanding. The programme is offered in 139 countries, by over 3300 schools worldwide. It aims to develop balanced, internationally minded global citizens who are compassionate, lifelong learners and pursue the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. As an IB World School offering the Diploma Programme, International College is a part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring, young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world. IBDP students take six subjects of a range of areas, as well as embark on an independent research (Extended Essay), explore Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and carry out a number of Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) projects. At International College, we promote activities which involve interaction with the local, national and global community.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION EDUCACIÓN AMBIENTAL
Through our Environmental Education Programme, we seek to promote sustainability. Teachers, students and parents actively participate in projects to raise awareness and instill understanding of how to better protect natural resources, including the study of renewable energies. Moreover, outings throughout the Uruguayan territory allow students to comprehend the magnitude of such issues. • 3 R Programme: Reduce: use only what is necessary, Reuse: give something a new use, Recycle: transform waste into new products. • Vegetable Garden: students in Kinder and Primary learn about the soil, how to plant, cultivate and harvest. This experience promotes the welfare of the social and physical context including the natural environment of the School community, promoting a better understanding of how we interact with nature.

A través del programa de educación ambiental se busca fomentar una cultura sustentable. Docentes, estudiantes y padres participan activamente en proyectos que faciliten el conocimiento, comprensión del cuidado y protección de los recursos naturales, así como de la energía renovable. Además, se realizan excursiones a todo el territorio uruguayo con el fin de que los estudiantes logren captar la magnitud de estos temas. En el marco de la educación ambiental se implementan los siguientes programas: • Programa 3R: Reducir: usar solo lo necesario, Reutilizar: dar nuevo uso y Reciclar: convertir desechos en nuevos productos. • Programa Green Skill, se imparte en Kinder y Primary. FOUNDING FAMILIES TREE PLANTING This is an initiative that expresses the School’s interest in caring for the environment and promotes the value of teamwork, the feeling of belonging and reciprocal trust. Planting a tree is an act of wisdom that connects us to nature’s vital strength. To do so, in the company of our loved ones, strengthens the connection to our roots and the commitment to the future of that living being. Founding Families Tree Planting is an activity in which IC’s founding families plant a tree in the School grounds. IC representatives accompany families in this activity, providing information on the species of the tree, its characteristics and meaning, and how to successfully carry out the act of planting. This highly meaningful moment is marked by a wooden plaque with the student’s name and the date on which they planted the tree. From that moment on, the student and his/her family take on the responsibility of caring for that tree, aiding and nurturing it in its growth day by day.
Plantar un árbol es un acto de sabiduría que nos conecta con la fuerza vital de la naturaleza; hacerlo en compañía de los seres queridos fortalece, además, la conexión con nuestras raíces y el compromiso con el futuro de ese ser vivo. Founding Families Tree Planting es una actividad pensada para que las familias fundadoras de IC planten un árbol en los jardines de la institución. Una iniciativa que denota el interés del colegio por el cuidado del medio ambiente y que promueve el trabajo en equipo, el sentido de pertenencia y la confianza recíproca. La siembra es acompañada por representantes de IC quienes explican en cada caso el tipo de árbol elegido, sus particularidades y simbolismo, y brindan las instrucciones para desarrollar con éxito el proceso. Se trata de un momento significativo que queda registrado en placas de madera con el nombre de cada estudiante y con la fecha en la cual se sembró su árbol, a partir de la cual cada estudiante y su familia asumen la responsabilidad simbólica de cuidar y regar ese árbol para que crezca y se desarrolle cada día con mayor vigor.

International College is the first school in Punta del Este which, from the beginning, has been specifically designed as an educational institution. Nestled in over 5 hectares of land, IC encompasses 17.000 m² of state of the art facilities. These comprise flexible learning spaces, classrooms, Learning Resource Centre with a restaurant, Dining Hall, Nursery, Staffroom, Meeting Rooms, Silent Room, Laboratories (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Robotics and IT), ‘IC Ediciones’, an Arts Space with a complete Music Room, a Yoga space and a Vegetable Garden. The International Sports Centre offers a synthetic turf football and rugby field surrounded by a track and field, multi-purpose courts for handball, basketball and volleyball, as

well as a barbecue. There is also a synthetic turf hockey field and fitness room equipped with the latest technology and weights for athletes and physical fitness enthusiasts. One of the highlights of our facilities is the International Arena, with its 26m x 46m indoor court for basketball, volleyball, handball and futsal, and full set of bleachers to accommodate spectators. Thanks to its flipped stage, the Arena can host ceremonies, plays, artistic performances, conferences, and many other activities, promoting the arts and academics on a greater scale. These amenities will be further enhanced with the installation of an indoor swimming pool at a later stage.
International College es el primer colegio de Punta del Este que, desde su concepción, fue diseñado, planificado y construido para ser una institución educativa. Con más de 17.000 m² de construcción y en un predio total de 50.000 m² de terreno se encuentran espacios de aprendizaje incluyendo salones de clase, un Learning Resource Centre con Cafetería, un Dining Hall, Enfermería, Sala de Profesores, Sala de Reuniones, Sala de Estudio, Laboratorio de Física, Química, Biología, IT, Robótica, una Oficina Editorial, Espacio de Artes con Sala de Expresión Plástica, Sala de Música, espacio para yoga y una huerta orgánica cuidada por los estudiantes. IC cuenta, además, con un completo Sports Center que incluye una cancha reglamentaria de fútbol y rugby de
césped sintético, dos canchas reglamentarias con piso outdoor para practicar handball, basketball y volleyball y un parrillero. A las anteriores instalaciones se suman una cancha de hockey de césped artificial, una pista de atletismo y una sala de fitness con aparatos de última tecnología y con pesos libres para deportistas. A su vez, se cuenta con el International Arena, un gimnasio cerrado de 26 x 46 m para deportes indoor como basketball, volleyball, handball, futsal, entre otros, aplicable además a diversos usos como obras de teatro y espectáculos artísticos, conferencias, actos y actividades comunitarias, complementado con gradas para los espectadores. En una segunda etapa, se dispondrá de una piscina cerrada y climatizada.

ARTS ARTES
The Arts are one of IC’s main pillars, where we seek to develop students’ critical thinking and aesthetic sensitivity whilst being immersed in other cultures. The Arts are considered a language that encourage students to express themselves in different modalities. Creativity, innovation and imagination play a crucial role in this process. In addition to the Fine Arts, Design, Music, Singing and Dance are offered, both through the School’s curriculum and as extra-curricular activities. In Kinder, a solid basis of artistic knowledge is provided through the Arts, Music and Body Expression, areas in which students express their creativity, an essential tool in their development as integral beings. In Primary, students deepen their knowledge in Music, Choir, Drama and Arts, where they are more conscious about the work they are presenting. Different techniques are explored whilst learning about the authors and historic artistic figures of their time. The goal is to accompany students in their development, helping them to discover their potential through the different disciplines. During each year in Secondary, students participate in subjects such as ‘Expresión Visual, Plástica y Dibujo’, ‘Educación Sonora’, ‘Expresión Corporal’, ‘Expresión Musical’, ‘Arte’ and ‘Comunicación Visual’. During this stage of education, they challenge their artistic skills at a superior level, perfecting their techniques and harnessing their talents. Once they get to Secondary 5, students may opt for Visual Arts and/or Theatre from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
El Arte es uno de los tres pilares de International College, con el cual se busca desarrollar el pensamiento creativo, la sensibilidad estética y formal, así como brindar la posibilidad de conocer otras culturas, así como expresarse de forma natural y fluidamente. El Arte es un lenguaje que hará que el niño se manifieste a través de diferentes elementos y será la creatividad, la innovación y la imaginación las que tengan un papel más importante en todo este proceso. Se trabajan no solo las artes plásticas, sino también el diseño, la música, el canto y la danza de forma curricular y extracurricular. En Kinder se introducen los conceptos más simples, como base del conocimiento artístico, a través de las asignaturas Arts, Music y Body Expression. El objetivo es que los estudiantes expresen toda su creatividad ya que es esencial para su desarrollo integral. En Primary, los estudiantes profundizan en Music, Choir, Drama y Arts, donde el trabajo es más consciente y no tan intuitivo como lo es en Kinder. Se desarrollan diferentes técnicas, trabajando sobre autores y referentes artísticos de la historia. La idea es acompañar al niño en su desarrollo, que en contacto con las diferentes disciplinas artísticas, vaya descubriendo su potencial. Durante cada uno de los años de Secondary, los estudiantes cursan asignaturas artísticas como lo son Expresión Visual, Plástica y Dibujo, Educación Sonora, Expresión Corporal, Expresión Musical, Arte y Comunicación Visual. Durante estos años, se desarrollan las habilidades a un nivel superior, perfeccionando técnicas y talentos. Students of a digitally native generation are provided with the methods and knowledge needed to comprehend and integrate the various areas of learning, as well as the key skills to interpret an uncertain digital world that is in constant evolution. To achieve these goals, IC relies on the latest technological infrastructure, capable of supporting its academic, pedagogical, and administrative activities. With these resources, IC is able to provide a personalized education which meets the needs of each student, allowing them to interconnect the knowledge they acquire with the world around them, focusing on problem solving in real scenarios. The use of digital platforms and online programmes facilitate differentiated teaching and learning strategies. The technological resources at IC are permanently available, especially in the classrooms where each one is equipped with a Smartboard, a projector, modern workstations, development softwares and their respective practical kits. Sports and Physical Education (PE) aim to instill the values of camaraderie, solidarity, fair play and teamwork, promoting healthy habits from the very first introduction to sports up to the highest levels of competition. Through sports, students learn the importance of respect and perseverance, increase their self-confidence, reflect on their actions and adopt healthy habits for the rest of their life. The practice of sports as an educational tool reinforces integration, emphasizes values and enriches the development of the whole person. It also allows students to understand their bodies, exploring their motor skills and learning how to organize their leisure time. Above all, they have fun. Physical Education at IC focuses on the student’s wellbeing. It is an essential tool in shaping balanced human beings. El desarrollo del deporte como medio principal y la actividad física tiene como fundamento el cumplimiento de una actividad que inculque los valores de compañerismo, solidaridad y trabajo en equipo, y promueva buenos hábitos desde la iniciación deportiva hasta los niveles superiores de competencia. Mediante el deporte los estudiantes aprenden la importancia del respeto y la perseverancia, incrementan la seguridad en sí mismos, la reflexión y adoptan medidas saludables para la vida. La práctica deportiva como herramienta educativa potencia la integración, respetando la diversidad y ayudando a consolidar el deporte como fuente de salud y hábitos. El ejercicio físico, mediante las reglas y leyes de los diferentes deportes, posee una serie de valores que remarcan las vivencias agradables y enriquecen el desarrollo humano. KINDER Teachers at IC specialize in working with the students’ natural curiosity and creativity, fostering responsibility and organization from a young age. The School offers a comprehensive curriculum in which the physical, emotional and social aspects, as well as the ethical and aesthetic, are developed in a holistic way. The curriculum sets the foundations for inquiry and understanding to take place, strengthens self-esteem, and improves language skills both in Spanish and English. Students are immersed in Jolly Phonics, a fun child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics and multisensory activities. In Psychomotricity and Body Expression classes we work to promote early emotional and intellectual development. The objective is to encourage progress in motor skills and language, to support the harmonious growth of the student’s personality. Physical Education (PE) begins at age three with an Early Education Project (PET). By the age of five, children are introduced to sports in disciplines such as Hockey, Football and Rugby, among others. Subjects such as Green Skills foster environmental awareness and contact with nature, whilst Chess and Robotics favour strategic thinking and coding.

International College cuenta con docentes especializados en su tarea de trabajar con la curiosidad y la creatividad natural, así como estimular el sentido de la responsabilidad y organización en los estudiantes desde sus primeros años. El colegio brinda un currículo integral en el cual se trabajan los aspectos físicos, emocionales y sociales, así como éticos y estéticos. Desarrolla la comprensión, fortalece la autoestima de los estudiantes y amplía sus habilidades lingüísticas tanto en español como en inglés. En Kinder, los estudiantes se introducen en Jolly Phonics, programa basado en un método de fonética sintético, divertido y multisensorial que fomenta la lectura y escritura desde una temprana edad. En las clases de Psicomotricidad y Expresión Corporal se trabaja para permitir un temprano desarrollo en dos aspectos: el afectivo y el intelectual. PRIMARY
IC offers the Cambridge Primary Programme integrated with the Uruguayan national curriculum, a programme the School complies with. In the first years of Primary, students continue with the English phonics programme ‘Jolly Phonics’. Their level of English, Science and Maths is externally evaluated through the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint examinations in Primary 6; the year in which they also sit for the Trinity College oral test. IC provides Robotics and Information Technology (IT) classes. Chess, Yoga and Green Skills are additional subjects that are offered to enhance students’ skills and abilities, as well as to diversify the options available. From Kinder to Primary 6, students are encouraged to incorporate life skills, critical thinking and reflection. This takes place through a plan of action which is carefully crafted by class teachers in coordination with teachers from the different learning areas. To accomplish this, the School encourages the use of multidisciplinary projects where the interrelation of subjects allows students to make connections to the knowledge acquired. The Singapore Method in Maths is implemented up to Primary 3. This is an innovative teaching methodology with a closer, more hands on approach, which arises from the contextualization of mathematics and is based on problem solving.
El colegio se encuentra habilitado para ofrecer el currículo nacional de Uruguay, integrado con el currículo internacional de Cambridge Primary Programme. En los primeros años de Primary, se continúa con el programa de fonética en inglés, Jolly Phonics. En Primary 6, se evalúa el desempeño de los estudiantes en English, Science y Mathematics a través del Cambridge Primary Checkpoint, además de rendir exámenes orales de Trinity College. Además, se suman asignaturas enfocadas en la tecnología como Robótica e Informática. Ajedrez, Yoga y Green Skills son materias adicionales que ayudan a desarrollar diferentes habilidades. SECONDARY We deliver international programmes in English integrated with the Uruguayan national curriculum in Spanish. Students are prepared to sit for Cambridge examinations, such as the First Certificate in English (FCE) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The latter is a renowned programme which helps to develop creativity, research skills, critical thinking and problem solving in Secondary 3 and 4 students. IC is authorized to provide the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Secondary 5 and 6, a curriculum which focuses on working with global contexts through inquiry, action and reflection. Secondary students have a weekly assembly in which they discuss current regional and international issues. Secondary also works with interdisciplinary projects which encourage the connection of knowledge.
En este nivel, se integran el currículo oficial nacional con el internacional dictado en inglés. Los estudiantes son preparados para rendir el First Certificate y los certificados de International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) de Cambridge. En Secondary 3 y 4 los estudiantes preparan los IGCSE, un programa reconocido mundialmente que ayuda a desarrollar la creatividad, la investigación, el pensamiento crítico y la resolución de problemas. As a dynamic and integral component of the academic activity, the Learning Resource Centre is a fundamental link to a whole and holistic education for the IC community. It provides resources for students and teachers, whilst also being available to parents and members of the wider community. It is also a space where people can gather in a welcoming and relaxed environment, share life experiences, interact openly and participate in different presentations of interest. The Learning Resource Centre also has a cafeteria/restaurant which is open to the public.
Como parte dinámica e integral de la actividad académica, el Learning Resource Centre es un eslabón fundamental para la educación plena y holística de la comunidad. Sirve de apoyo a los estudiantes y docentes del colegio y además está disponible para los padres y la comunidad de la región. ROBOTICS ROBÓTICA
ROBOTICS CLUB Throughout the year, International College implements a Robotics programme. Students learn to use different types of software such as MIT’s Scratch, Code.org, mbloq, miniBloq. This programme stimulates critical thinking, creativity and teamwork, keeping students up to date with the latest technological advances while maintaining an emphasis on the importance of having fun. ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS The use of robots is an important platform for national and international competitions. These competitions challenge and motivate students to strengthen their programming strategies and encourage them to continue this fascinating journey of discovery. 2017 was the first year our School participated in the State Science Fair. On this occasion, three of our clubs presented their different projects: a transportation drone, an RC lifesaver and an agricultural robot. Each project received special distinctions. The agricultural robot, Horti Bot made it all the way to the Nationals, where it was awarded several prizes and was published by the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture. Working through projects is a global trend that allows students to apply the knowledge they acquire in class. It is a strategy that nurtures each student’s abilities, helping them to feel comfortable with their individual set of skills whilst also introducing them to new ones. More innovative challenges are expected to ensure our students acquire the best tools for the future that awaits them.

ROBOTICS CLUB En el correr del año, International College implementa un programa de crecimiento escalonado en Robótica. El aprendizaje de esta materia incentiva el despertar del pensamiento crítico, la creatividad y el trabajo en equipo, manteniendo a los estudiantes actualizados con los avances tecnológicos, sin dejar de lado la diversión. Los estudiantes aprenden también a utilizar diferentes tipos de software como Scratch del MIT, Code.org, mbloq, miniBloq, entre otros. El manejo de robots es un escalón importante para las competencias tanto nacionales, en Montevideo, como internacionales, en Argentina, Chile y Estados Unidos. Este tipo de competencia constituye una motivación para el fortalecimiento en estrategias de programación. Esta materia tiene un alto nivel de motivación entre los estudiantes. ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS En 2017 nuestro colegio se presentó por primera vez en la Feria de Ciencias Departamental con tres clubes de distintos proyectos: un dron de transporte, un salvavidas radio control y un robot para la agricultura. Cada uno de ellos logró varias distinciones: el de agricultura una Mención Especial y el pasaje a la instancia nacional donde obtuvo varios premios y fue publicado por el Ministerio de Educación y Cultura de Uruguay. El trabajo basado en proyectos es una tendencia internacional que lleva a la práctica todo lo que los estudiantes aprenden teóricamente en la clase. Es una estrategia para desarrollar las destrezas de cada uno, permitiéndoles sentirse cómodos con sus habilidades. Se esperan más desafíos innovadores y nuevos logros que den a nuestros estudiantes mejores herramientas para su futuro.

SCIENCE CIENCIAS
The main objective of the Sciences Department is to awaken a love for the sciences, enhancing students’ skills and abilities while showing that learning sciences and mathematics can be useful, interesting, enthralling and easy to comprehend. The understanding of theory and problem solving are additional goals that are worked on. Our reality makes it necessary to form responsible citizens who have a critical spirit, are empowered to make responsible decisions, capable of applying the scientific knowledge and understanding acquired. This is why our Sciences Department seeks to create awareness about the impact of new technologies arising from scientific progress. Activities, lab research and digital simulations enable students to make connections between day to day life and mathematical, chemical, biological and/or physical concepts. The IC labs are equipped with cutting edge technology and the latest materials. Students have access to the necessary materials to investigate, to nurture their curiosity and to apply to their practice, all under the highest safety standards. Verniers sensors and interfaces are used to collect precise data. Software, such as Logger Pro, is used to plot results. Chemicals, prime quality materials and safety elements such as emergency showers, eyewashes, fireproof blankets, and associated safetyware, complete the resources in the labs.
Más allá de las teorías de aprendizaje y cómo resolver problemas, el objetivo principal del Departamento de Ciencias es despertar el amor por las ciencias, maximizando las habilidades de los estudiantes y sus competencias, mostrándoles que el aprendizaje de las ciencias y de matemáticas puede ser útil, interesante, atrapante y comprensible. Actividades o investigaciones de laboratorio y simulaciones digitales permiten establecer una conexión entre la vida diaria y los conceptos matemáticos, químicos, biológicos y/o de física. En IC, los laboratorios cuentan con los mejores y más modernos equipos y materiales. Cada uno de nuestros estudiantes dispone del material necesario, cuidadosamente clasificado, para hacer su práctica de aprendizaje, investigar y desarrollar sus habilidades inquisitivas en un ambiente atractivo, siempre bajo los más altos estándares internacionales de seguridad. Se incluyen sensores e interfaces Vernier para recolectar datos con suma precisión, software como Logger Pro para graficar los resultados, químicos y materiales de primera calidad y elementos de seguridad como duchas, eyewash, mantas para extinguir fuego, entre otros. Nuestra realidad hace necesaria la formación de ciudadanos responsables, con espíritu crítico y poder de decisión, que puedan aplicar los conocimientos científicos adquiridos a corto y largo plazo. SCIENCE FAIRS During the second term, Kinder, Primary and Secondary students organize their own Science Fair. They present the topics worked on during their Sciences and Mathematics classes and personal research through the use of posters, digital and oral presentations, experiments and models. These are additional instances where teamwork and creativity, as well as oral and written skills are fostered. PRIMARY SCIENCE EXPO The Primary Science Expo at IC is dedicated to scientific disciplines of nature. The scientific method, proving a hypothesis, research, field notebooks, experimenting and verification make this event special. Each group promotes the excitement of discovery by sharing their process and findings with the rest of the students. The creativity, the reusing of materials and the enthusiasm displayed by students and teachers alike is inspirational. This activity seeks to promote investigative thinking, develop curious minds and provide the setting for collaborative work.

SECONDARY SCIENCE FAIR The Secondary Science Fair takes place during the last week of the School year. For two days, students present a summary of the work they have undertaken in their ‘Biología’, ‘Ciencias Físicas’, ‘Química’, Chemistry and Physics classes. Using a variety of resources, such as posters, audiovisual and oral presentations, experiments and scale models, students exhibit their research. Topics include biomes, bacteria, the immune system, holograms, rays, sound, water treatments and solar power, in conjunction with chemical reaction experiments. OLYMPICS Several olympics take place annually in Uruguay, such as the Uruguayan Chemistry Olympics which has been organized by the College of Chemistry since 2009. This competition has two instances, regional and national. When students pass the Maldonado ‘regional’ stage, they qualify to compete in the National Chemistry Olympics in Montevideo. The same occurs with the National Mathematics Olympics which focuses on evaluating students’ ability to solve problems through critical thinking. IC has been providing the venue for the regional Chemistry Olympics since 2017 and will be hosting the regional Maths Olympics in 2018.
FERIA DE CIENCIAS Durante el segundo semestre del año escolar se desarrollan las Ferias de Ciencias de los estudiantes de Kinder, Primary y Secondary. En este marco, los alumnos presentan sus trabajos realizados en clase e investigaciones personales, usando varios recursos como posters, presentaciones digitales, experimentos, maquetas y presentaciones orales. Se presentan temas de las diferentes áreas de las ciencias, incluyendo matemáticas. Se fomenta la creatividad, el trabajo en equipo y habilidades de presentación oral y escrita. FERIA DE CIENCIAS PRIMARY La Expo Ciencia es un tiempo dedicado a las disciplinas científicas de la naturaleza. La metodología científica, el planteo de hipótesis, la investigación, los cuadernos de campo, la experimentación y verificación hacen de estos encuentros momentos especiales. Cada grupo promueve el descubrimiento, la sorpresa y comparte con otros grupos sus recorridos pedagógicos. Sorprende la creatividad, la reutilización de materiales, el entusiasmo puesto por estudiantes y docentes guías. Se persigue el objetivo de promover el pensamiento investigativo, la generación de mentes curiosas y la promoción del trabajo cooperativo.
FERIA DE CIENCIAS SECONDARY Durante la última semana del año escolar se desarrolla la Feria de Ciencias de Secondary. A lo largo de dos días los estudiantes muestran un resumen de los trabajos que desarrollan durante el año académico en Biología, Física, Ciencias Físicas, Chemistry y Physics. Mediante un variado elenco de recursos como posters, presentaciones en PowerPoint o Prezi, experimentos, maquetas y presentaciones orales, los alumnos exhiben sus investigaciones. Tópicos tales como biomas, bacterias, sistema inmunológico, hologramas, rayos, sonido, tratamiento de agua, energía solar, junto a experimentos de reacciones químicas son abordados en este contexto posibilista. OLIMPIADAS En nuestro país, todos los años se organizan olimpiadas de diferentes asignaturas; por ejemplo, la Facultad de Química organiza desde el año 2009 la Olimpíada Uruguaya de Química, la cual tiene, en principio, dos etapas: la etapa departamental y la nacional. Luego de sortear la primera etapa en Maldonado si se obtienen buenos resultados se pasa a la etapa final, en Montevideo, donde compiten con varias instituciones del país. Lo mismo ocurre con las Olimpiadas Nacionales de Matemáticas que se enfocan en evaluar la capacidad de los estudiantes de resolver problemas a través del pensamiento crítico.

INTERNATIONAL EXAMINATIONS EXÁMENES INTERNACIONALES At IC, we believe that students’ studies should be acknowledged internationally. Therefore, we prepare them to sit for a number of international examinations at their different levels. Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests have been designed to assess learners in Mathematics, English and Science at the end of Primary 6. They provide valuable feedback on learners’ strengths and areas to improve on before they progress to the next stage of their education. In 2017 our students also took the Trinity College Oral examinations. The Trinity Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) are one-to-one, face-to-face assessments of speaking and listening skills. They are designed to complement the general English language programme and exam preparation focuses on the development of communicative skills and building confidence among candidates. IC Secondary students sit for the following international examinations: • First Certificate in English (FCE), University of Cambridge • International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), University of Cambridge International exams are designed to evaluate students’ understanding and performance in English. These standardized tests are designed to measure how well students learned the skills important to meet the standards of colleges and universities around the world.
En International College creemos que los estudiantes necesitan reconocimiento internacional por lo que hacen; por lo tanto, los preparamos para rendir exámenes internacionales en los diferentes niveles. En Primary 6, se prepara a los estudiantes para el Cambridge International Primary Programme, en el cual se demuestran los conocimientos y habilidades en Matemática, Inglés y Ciencias. También permite conocer las fortalezas y debilidades sobre las que se debe trabajar antes de avanzar a la siguiente etapa educativa. En este mismo año de formación, también se presentan al Trinity College Oral Examinations, instancias orales y personales, donde se evalúan las habilidades de comprensión y habla en inglés. El examen está pensado para complementar el aprendizaje en este idioma, trabajando sobre el desarrollo de una comunicación fluida y reforzando la confianza de cada individuo. Por su parte, los estudiantes de Secondary se presentan a los siguientes exámenes internacionales: • First Certificate in English (FCE), University of Cambridge • IGCSE, University of Cambridge Por estar estandarizados, estos exámenes se convierten en excelentes indicadores del desempeño del estudiante, porque miden la adquisición de habilidades necesarias para ingresar a instituciones educativas de todo el mundo.

STUDENT COUNCIL CONSEJO ESTUDIANTIL
Students are expected to be active participants in their learning. This is why their ‘voice’ is highly valued at IC, where they can contribute with excellent ideas and aid in the revision of School policies. Each class from Primary 4 to Secondary 5 selects a female and a male Student Representative through a democratic and transparent secret vote. Those elected comprise the Student Council for a period of one year and are considered IC Ambassadors. The first task given to the Student Council is to revise their role and identify areas to work on.

Se espera que los estudiantes sean participantes activos en su proceso de aprendizaje. Por esa razón, su voz es altamente valorada en IC, donde contribuyen con excelentes ideas y aportan a las revisiones de políticas institucionales. La elección del representante de cada clase se lleva a cabo en marzo mediante una votación secreta, democrática y transparente. El Student Council consta de un representante masculino y uno femenino ambos electos por un período de un año, desde Primary 4 a Secondary 5. La primera tarea del Student Council es revisar su rol e identificar áreas de trabajo para el año. Son los “embajadores” de IC.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS CLUB Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the UN where Secondary students represent delegates of the committees and commissions of this international organization. Its objective is for participants to develop research, debate, and public speaking skills while they learn about and provide solutions on global issues. In 2017 and 2018, IC MUN Club members took part in several national and international conferences where they interacted with students from other schools and debated the same topics the United Nations has tackled in its assemblies. They had the chance to raise awareness on international espionage, privacy in a digital era, alternative energies, nuclear weapons and the civil war in Syria.
Model United Nations (MUN) es una simulación de las Naciones Unidas donde estudiantes de Secondary representan delegados de los comités y comisiones de esta organización mundial. Esta actividad tiene como objetivo desarrollar habilidades de investigación, debate y presentación, mientras se aprende y se opina sobre las diversas problemáticas que afectan nuestro mundo. Miembros del club asisten a diversas conferencias nacionales e internacionales donde interactúan con estudiantes de otros colegios y debaten algunos de los temas que las Naciones Unidas ha impulsado durante sus asambleas. En cada instancia se interiorizan y concientizan sobre asuntos de la actualidad como el espionaje internacional, la privacidad en la era digital, energías alternativas, la crisis migratoria, armas nucleares y la guerra civil en Siria.

The education system of International College offers a holistic development for its students which continues after School hours through fun and educational extra-curricular activities (ECAs). Taking advantage of students’ interest, IC provides a wide range of ECAs such as Robotics, Music, Sports and Ballet. In planned weekly sessions led by teachers specialized in each subject, a balance between academic, artistic and sportive activities is sustained, augmenting the quality of the educational processes. The ECAs provide additional opportunities for interacting with others who share similar interests, seeking a common goal, overcoming obstacles, managing frustration through winning and losing, challenging themselves and others, and positively complement the continuous development of our students by setting them on the path to become balanced, strong and happy global citizens.
El sistema educativo de International College pretende una formación holística en sus estudiantes. Es por eso, que las oportunidades de formación van más allá de las horas lectivas. El horario extracurricular nos ofrece oportunidades para continuar con la educación de nuestros estudiantes mientras se divierten desarrollando destrezas adicionales. Aprovechando la predisposición favorable de los niños y adolescentes, IC ofrece una amplia gama de Actividades Extracurriculares (ECAs) como robótica, música, deportes, entre otras, las cuales constituyen una potente herramienta educativa. MUSIC MÚSICA In Music, we work together as if we were an orchestra. We listen to each other. Everyone has a role and everyone shares their ideas.Multiple players perform as one single instrument. Everyone experiences what it is like to be a musician and, at times, even the Director of the orchestra. Students learn skills such as how to breathe in order to release tension and how to connect and project their voice. They also work on rhythms, feeling the music through their bodies and the instruments they play. They sing dynamic popular songs and games, and create their own material with the aim of awakening the original and unique composer from within. Music lessons are an opportunity for students to express themselves, to communicate and to develop their sensitivity through the sounds that help them to grow as musicians, but also as people. In Secondary, Music is of great importance throughout the year. Students experience music through different activities, such as the rehearsal of anthems and academic tunes required as part of official events, including the IC anthem: The Future in our Hands, as well as popular music and fun activities, such as the IC Talent Show. Students increase their listening capabilities and become more aware of the role the musical ear plays in the creation of compositions, in addition to learning technical terms and recognising music as part of cultural heritage.
En nuestro espacio de música trabajamos como una orquesta. Nos escuchamos, tenemos nuestros roles y aportamos ideas; cada uno participa para formar un solo instrumento; experimenta lo que significa ser músico, pero también, por momentos, director de esta orquesta. Aprendemos a respirar para liberar tensiones, conectarnos y proyectar la voz; trabajamos con ritmo vivenciándolo a través de nuestro cuerpo y diferentes instrumentos; cantamos a través de dinámicas, canciones populares y juegos; creamos nuestras propias composiciones con el fin de formar en cada niño un compositor original y único. El espacio de música es un momento de expresividad, comunicación y desarrollo de la sensibilidad a través del sonido que nos hace crecer como músicos, pero fundamentalmente como personas. La asignatura Música de Secondary, es de gran importancia para los estudiantes a lo largo del año. Durante el transcurso de este vivencian la música y el canto coral a través de diferentes actividades como la entonación y ensayo de canciones, tales como el himno de IC, The Future in our Hands, además de canciones académicas y populares que animan los actos oficiales y actividades didácticas, como el Talent Show. Desde la música los estudiantes incrementan su capacidad auditiva, toman conciencia sobre el papel del oído musical en la formación estética, al tiempo que conocen el vocabulario técnico-musical y reconocen la música como patrimonio cultural.

PROGRAMA DE ESTIMULACIÓN TEMPRANA – PET The Early Stimulation Programme (PET) is a physical activity programme designed specifically for children from the ages of three to six, where the aim is to stimulate coordination and the development of motor skills. As each child’s development occurs at their own pace in a natural way, we encourage an environment that promotes learning and exploration at each stage of the child’s growth. Sports are an important tool that instills values such as discipline and collaboration. Through team activities, students learn about interacting with peers, respecting the rules, being tolerant, accepting different roles and accepting wins and losses equally. El Programa de Estimulación Temprana (PET) es un programa de actividad física específicamente diseñado para niños de 3 a 6 años, donde se brindan estímulos específicos para el desarrollo de la capacidad física y coordinación en esta etapa de su desarrollo. Cada niño se desarrolla a su ritmo y de forma natural, por eso se fomenta un ambiente con factores que propicien el aprendizaje y la exploración, conociendo lo que es más adecuado durante el crecimiento. Cabe destacar que el deporte es un instrumento formativo que inculca valores como la disciplina y la colaboración; cuando se trata de un juego colectivo favorece la interacción entre pares y exige respetar reglas, ser tolerantes, aceptar diferentes roles y afrontar tanto las victorias como las derrotas.

IC AIRPLANE AVIÓN IC The last airplane from the historic Uruguayan airline PLUNA, the Boeing 737, was transformed into a technological learning space for IC students and the community as a whole to enjoy learning more about technology and robotics, and many other associated areas. It also supports studies in applied sciences, engineering and mathematics and helps students to understand just how intrinsically linked these areas of knowledge are. This fascinating learning space is also open to the public and, consequently, has received visits from several national and international institutions and organizations. In partnership with Maldonado’s Development and Social Integration Office, the project ‘Caminando hacia el futuro’ (Walking towards the future) has enabled over 10,000 teenagers and elderly people to visit the IC Airplane. Flight simulations, the sharing of anecdotes and life stories and Robotics classes are among just a few of the activities offered to our guests. Recently, IC paid homage to two former workers of Pluna Airlines, Commander Juan Barbé and Sales Representative Verónica Aramendi, who are graciously collaborating by giving workshops on aviation, flight experiences and overcoming personal struggles.

El Boeing 737, la última aeronave de la histórica compañía uruguaya PLUNA, fue transformada en un espacio de aprendizaje tecnológico para que los estudiantes de International College y de la comunidad puedan vincularse con los avances de tecnología y robótica, entre otras áreas. Estas asignaturas ayudan al estudio aplicado de las ciencias, la ingeniería y las matemáticas y permiten que los alumnos comprendan la estrecha relación que existe entre estas áreas del conocimiento. Por tratarse de un espacio abierto al público, también recibimos visitantes de instituciones y organizaciones de todo el país y el exterior. Junto al área de Desarrollo e Integración Social de la Intendencia Departamental de Maldonado, trabajamos en el proyecto Caminando hacia el futuro que se desarrolla con unas 10.000 personas entre preadolescentes y adultos mayores. Se realizan visitas semanales donde se hacen simulacros de vuelo, historias, experiencias de vida y superación, clases de Robótica, entre otras actividades. Recientemente, IC homenajeó a dos de los funcionarios de la ex Aerolínea Pluna, el comandante Juan Barbé y la ex jefa de Ventas de Pluna, Verónica Aramendi quienes como embajadores del Avión IC colaboran en impartir talleres sobre aviación, experiencias de vuelo y superación personal.

HOUSES The purpose of the House System is to help students create bonds with one another by belonging to a team where they can contribute with their talents and efforts. It introduces the idea of collective responsibility for both behaviour and learning. Each House, Phoenix, Minotaur and Griffin is composed of Kinder, Primary and Secondary students organized so that every student’s potential is capitalized, be it through sports, academics, arts or humanitarian efforts. Points are awarded or deducted according to conduct and performance in the different disciplines. The House that accumulates the most points by the end of the School year is presented with the much acclaimed Houses Cup.

The International Sports Center (ISC) offers over 40.000 m² of facilities dedicated to fitness and sports. Personalized programmes are created taking into account specific needs, whether they are focused on health aspects or enhancing physical performance to its fullest. ISC is run by qualified professionals in the areas of health and fitness who guide and support individuals to fulfill their objectives, be it improving physical state, increasing muscle mass, weight loss, recovering from injuries, or simply as complementing a sport. This team of highly trained professionals cover a total of six areas: sports initiation, integral physical preparation, high performance, fitness, recreation, physical activity and health. They evaluate each individual and create a customized action plan to enable the person to reach specific goals and objectives. True to our slogan: ‘ISC accompanies you to achieve your goals’. A complete Wellness Room is set up with the latest Technogym equipment, supported by an exclusive fitness app which helps track progress. A Technogym Cycling Room, a Cardio Room and an assessment office complete the closed spaces offered within the ISC. In the different fields, the programmes of early development, sports preparation take place. Additionally, athletics, football, rugby, hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball, gymnastics and table tennis are practiced on the premises. Aerobics, rhythm, Zumba, functional training, aerobox, aeropilates, adm-flex, aeroyoga, ballet fit, cross training, functional athletics, hatha yoga, pilates, are some of the other classes offered. Through these myriad services, the International Sports Centre is well equipped to satisfy the needs of the IC community and all potential users.
International Sports Center ofrece más de 40.000 m² de espacio en infraestructura deportiva, donde se desarrollan diferentes programas que van desde el cuidado de la salud hasta la excelencia deportiva mediante un diseño a la medida de las necesidades específicas de los usuarios. Esta estructura de trabajo tiene seis áreas que constituyen la sinergia de nuestro equipo: la iniciación deportiva, preparación física integral, alto rendimiento, fitness, recreación, actividad física y salud. Para eso, contamos con un grupo de profesionales altamente capacitados que evaluarán y planificarán el proceso de trabajo de cada usuario con el fin de cumplir sus metas y objetivos a alcanzar. Por eso, nuestro eslogan es ISC te acompaña a alcanzar tus metas. En ISC contamos con una Sala de Musculación (Wellness Room) climatizada y equipada por Technogym, con material de última generación (2018) y plataforma virtual para el control de entrenamiento (My Wellness support y app) que es un servicio exclusivo en Uruguay. Tenemos el Cycling Room, también equipado por Technogym, Cardio Room, así como una sala para la evaluación de los usuarios. ISC es atendido por licenciados y profesores de educación física especializados que brindan orientación y ayudan a cumplir con los objetivos: cambios y mejoras en el físico, mejoras y definición de la masa muscular, adelgazamiento, mejorar la salud o complemento para todo tipo de deportes, en un amplio horario semanal. Nuestra infraestructura cuenta, además, con el International Arena, gimnasio cerrado de 26x46 m para deportes indoor con gradas para los espectadores. En nuestras canchas se implementan los programas de estimulación temprana y formación deportiva y se practica atletismo, fútbol, rugby, hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball, gimnasia artística y tenis de mesa. Además, se dictan clases de gimnasia aeróbica, ritmos y zumba, cycling room, entrenamiento funcional, programa funcional adaptado, aerobox, aerolocal, aeropilates, adm-flex, aéreo yoga, ballet fit, cross training, esferolocal, functional athletics, hatha yoga, pilates y yoga. Es mediante estos servicios que International Sports Center es capaz de satisfacer las necesidades de todos los públicos.

IC Experience is the School’s initiative committed to creating, developing, promoting and providing different experiences linked to the School’s main pillars, both for our students and for those of other international institutions. These experiences are designed according to the specific needs of each group. Once the objectives are identified, exchange programmes are arranged with foreign students with a linguistic, sportive and/or cultural aim. IC Experience also provides a Break Programme available in winter and summer. In addition, language learning opportunities (Spanish and/or English), fun excursions, cultural activities and sports encounters are offered. In the Sports Programme, students interact with different cultures in a world class destination, whilst practicing their favorite sports. In the Graduates Programme, students enjoy Punta del Este, one of the most attractive cities in Latin America in the company of their friends. In the Exchange Programme, students have an unforgettable experience by attending a bilingual (English-Spanish) school. All programmes within IC Experience include a cultural and entertainment agenda.

IC Experience es el departamento encargado de crear, desarrollar, divulgar y ejecutar diferentes experiencias vinculadas con los pilares del colegio, tanto para nuestros estudiantes como para los de otras instituciones internacionales. Los programas están desarrollados a la medida de las necesidades de cada grupo. Una vez identificados los objetivos, se arman planes de intercambio con estudiantes extranjeros con fines lingüísticos, deportivos y culturales. IC Experience cuenta, por ejemplo, con un Programa de Vacaciones que puede transcurrir durante el verano o el invierno. En este marco, además del aprendizaje de inglés y/o español, se realizan paseos, deportes y actividades culturales. En el Programa Deportivo los jóvenes tienen la oportunidad, por ejemplo, de interactuar con diferentes culturas en hermosos lugares, practicando su deporte preferido. En el Programa de Egresados, los jóvenes pueden conocer Punta del Este, uno de los lugares más exclusivos de América Latina, disfrutar de sus amigos en playas preciosas y practicar deportes; el objetivo principal de este programa es la interacción y la diversión del grupo. En el Programa de Intercambio se les ofrece a los estudiantes una excelente oportunidad de vivenciar una experiencia inigualable, asistiendo a un colegio bilingüe (inglés y español) con certificaciones internacionales. Todos los programas incluyen una agenda cultural y de entretenimiento.

ICare is the committee in charge of the IC Social Responsibility Programme, which aims to encourage generosity, empathy and a cooperative spirit with our community. Our students interact with foundations and institutions that support people in need. The main objective of the ICare committee is to raise students’ awareness of the reality around them and to give them the opportunity to participate actively in these social projects as responsible global citizens, leading change. Throughout the year, several campaigns take place, such as the IC Winter Drive which entails collecting winter clothes for children and adults. IC families also collect toys, games and books for the vulnerable communities of Maldonado. These activities take place on significant dates, such as Children’s Day, Christmas and Three Kings Day.
ICare es un comité que se encarga de la responsabilidad social de International College con el objetivo de fomentar la generosidad, empatía y espíritu de cooperación en nuestra comunidad. Nuestros estudiantes interactúan con miembros de fundaciones e instituciones carenciadas. Más allá del claro objetivo de colaboración se busca que los alumnos crezcan como personas conscientes de la realidad donde viven y participen activamente en proyectos sociales como ciudadanos responsables, líderes del cambio. En este sentido, durante el año se realizan diferentes campañas solidarias como IC Winter Drive que consiste en la donación de ropa de abrigo tanto para niños como adultos. También se realiza recolección de juguetes, juegos y libros en fechas importantes como el Día del Niño, Navidad y Reyes los cuales se distribuyen entre la población más vulnerable del departamento.

Its goal is to produce books and literary materials, of didactic and fictional nature, through the School’s academic experiences, with the active participation of students and staff. Focusing on Uruguay, topics such as arts, culture, philosophy, sciences, environment, among others, are presented in literary publications. IC Ediciones es la editorial de International College, que tiene como objetivo la creación literaria y producción de libros, didácticos y de ficción, a partir de las experiencias académicas en el colegio, contando con la participación de estudiantes y staff. Teniendo como punto de partida a Uruguay, los temas abordados son artes, cultura, filosofía, ciencias, medio ambiente, entre otros.

INTERNATIONAL DAY International Day is an event organized by IC parents, aided by students and staff. Its objective is to create an instance where there is a cultural exchange between the different nationalities of the IC Community, through the sharing of general information, gastronomy, music, arts, performances, and other activities. Each year, more nationalities are being added, thereby creating an even greater interaction of cultures. International Day is a community wide event where everyone plays an important role. The Parents Committee are the ambassadors of this activity and are responsible for the country(ies) their year group represents. Ambassadors invite fellow parents of the allocated nations to be a part of the creation of the stand and contribute with ideas, national dishes, crafts, etc. Kinder students are in charge of making the official flags. Primary students put together the stands for the country that corresponds to their capital. For example, P4 Paris puts together the France stand. Secondary students are in charge of the remaining nation states, assigned to classes by process of a draw.

International Day es un evento organizado por los padres de International College en conjunto con los estudiantes y con apoyo del Colegio, cuyo objetivo es generar un intercambio cultural entre las nacionalidades que integran la Comunidad IC mediante información, gastronomía, música, danzas, carteleras, entre otros. Año a año se suman más naciones y mucho más para aprender de las diferentes culturas. International Day es un evento de toda nuestra comunidad y por ende, todos cumplen un rol importante. Los miembros del Parents Committee son los embajadores, es decir, son los responsables por el país que se le asigne a la clase que representan. Los “Embajadores” invitarán a padres nativos de esta nación para ser parte del stand y contribuir en el armado, ideas, comidas típicas, etc. Los estudiantes de Kinder realizan las banderas para los stands, mientras que los alumnos de Primary son los responsables de armar el stand del país correspondiente a su capital. Por ej. P4 París, realiza el armado de Francia. Los estudiantes de Secondary se encargan de los stands de los países restantes, asignados a cada clase por sorteo. Los grupos más numerosos se dividen para poder cubrir todas las naciones.

PARENTS COMMITTEE (PC) COMITÉ DE PADRES Parents are the first educators and they accompany their children at every stage of their lives. Here at International College, we believe that partnerships with parents are essential and we value their positive contributions on social and academic experiences with the aim of benefitting our students and the community as a whole. Each year group, from Kinder through Secondary, has a Parent Representative elected through a democratic and transparent vote by the parents of that year. Elected Parent Representatives comprise the PC for a period of one year, and act as a link between the School and parents of their respective year. The School appoints a Chair who coordinates the Parents Committee. The PC meets monthly by individual section (Kinder, Primary and Secondary) with the corresponding Heads of Section, and bi-monthly with all the Parent Representatives, the Heads of Section and the Principal. .

Los padres son los primeros educadores y referentes de los niños, a quienes acompañarán viéndolos crecer en cada etapa de sus vidas. En International College creemos que la asociación con los padres es esencial y valoramos sus contribuciones positivas sobre experiencias académicas y sociales, buscando beneficiar a nuestros estudiantes y la comunidad. Contamos con un representante por cada año elegido mediante un proceso democrático y transparente de votación entre todos los padres de su respectivo año. El representante de los padres es un miembro del Parent Committee por un año y es el nexo entre el colegio y todos los padres de su grupo. IC elige de todos los padres un chair que coordina el Parent Committee. Estos se reúnen mensualmente por sector (Kinder, Primary y Secondary) con las directoras correspondientes, y de forma bimestral con todos los representantes de padres, las directoras de cada sector y la directora general.

TED is a non profit organization that focuses on sharing ideas through short yet powerful videos. They hold annual events that bring together the world’s leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline — technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, development. The talks at the conference, called TED Talks, are then made available to watch free on TED.com. In the spirit of ‘ideas worth spreading’, TED has created TEDx, a programme of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connections. International College is excited to be a TEDx licensee and is committed to the power of ideas which support the TEDxYouth@ICPuntadelEste event which will be held on 29th September, 2018. Our IC community, students, parents, teachers and friends are working actively to be ready for this exciting challenge, the first of many to come.
TED es una organización sin fines de lucro que se enfoca en difundir ideas usualmente a través de charlas cortas y poderosas. Se trata de un evento anual que reúne a los principales pensadores, creadores e innovadores del mundo para compartir ideas que importan en cualquier disciplina: tecnología, entretenimiento, diseño, ciencia, humanidades, negocios, desarrollo, entre otros. Las charlas en la conferencia, llamadas TED Talks, se comparten en la página web, TED.com. Basada en el espíritu de “ideas que vale la pena difundir”, TED ha creado TEDx, un programa de eventos locales autoorganizados. En un evento TEDx, los videos de TED Talks y los oradores en vivo se combinan para incentivar discusiones y conexiones profundas. IC está orgulloso de ser licenciatario de TEDx y se encuentra comprometido con el poder de las ideas, tema del evento TEDx Youth @ IC Punta del Este que se llevará a cabo el 29 de septiembre de 2018. La comunidad de IC, padres, estudiantes, miembros del staff y amigos trabajan activamente para enfrentar este desafío, el primero de muchos por venir.
