INTRODUCTION I thought a lot about why I would write a book on how to live an active and healthy life. I found many reasons which I will describe in the book and try to bring them closer to the readers so that maybe the reader will really start to believe that we can live an active life even in the second half of our stay on planet Earth. Why would an individual think he could live for 100 or even for 120 years? The main reason for planning a long life is to raise the quality of life today. After 30 years of studying successful people, I realized, among other things, that people happen to be successful because they planned their lives. Nothing happens by accident - everything happens for a reason. So, if you’re planning your life when you’re 30, you’re going to live 100 or even 120 years, your transition to the 50s and 60s will be completely different from people planning to retire at 65. The same goes for the PASSING OF TIME, or aging, as some call it. =================================================== - 10 -

As we know, people are goal-oriented and if you make plans for the next 50 or even 70 years when you are 50 years old, it can be crucial for the quality of your life at 50 or 60 years. The advice I describe in the book is probably known to everyone, but the fact that people hear this advice but do NOT listen to it is the reason why only few people live their lives actively and full of health in the second half of their lives. The main reason is PLANNING that in the second half of our life we can live the same quality and full of energy life as we lived in the first half of our lives. Few people after their 50s plan their lives for the next 50 years. I have come to the realization that in today’s rapidly changing world, it is necessary to make people aware that they can live a full, energetic and satisfying life of 100 or even 120 years. The fact is that most people will live long, but how well they will live is up to each individual. I watch individuals, friends, acquaintances surrender at the age of 50 and 60 and just react to life. That's right, the decision is yours, you don't depend on the environment or external factors. =================================================== - 11 -

That`s the key to a long life because most people don’t want a long life. They associate long life with obesity and age-related problems. This, however, is far from the truth. In the book, I describe how years have nothing to do with active life and biological age. Any decision to live an active life, even in later years, is completely legitimate and commendable. In the book I will describe people I know personally, whom I meet in life and who have not given up, and who live a full life even at the age of 70, 80 and even at the age of 90. I hope that this book will raise the awareness of health for everyone who reads it, and that we can do the most for our active and energetic lives in the second half of our lives. There are 33 chapters in the book about health, a mental approach, about what successful people do to be active and healthy in the second half of their lives as well. Most hints and tips are already familiar to readers, and some topics may be brand new. The purpose of reading the book "THE CODE OF LIFE" is to gain as much old and new advice and knowledge about health as possible and include them in our daily habits. =================================================== - 12 -

CHAPTER 1 ARE 120 YEARS REALLY A NEW 100 YEARS? Half of people born after 2000 AD will live to be 100 years old. GETTING OLDER IS A PASSING OF TIME, AGING IS A RESPONSE OF YOUR BELIEF. As time goes by most people become less creative, less curious, and at the same time they anticipate that their abilities will diminish with age. Centenarians do NOT follow this pattern. This is a major feature of those who want to live 100 years or more. Long-lived people are always planning their future. They are always enthusiastic about life. 100 years old; I wonder what my life will be like in 4 to 5 years. 100 years old; when I lost my sight I was sad but now when I talk to a woman I touch her to see how she is. =================================================== - 20 -

100 years old; yes, I like younger men, now I have a friend who is 80 years old and writes me songs. 100 years old; I don't know what the doctors told me because they were all dead already. Most centenarians think of themselves as younger than they really are. There are currently 400.000 people in the world, who are older than 100 years. Among them there are 400 who are 110 years old or more. The average 100-year-old is a combination of 10% genes and 90% lifestyle. A very strong reason that people will live to be 100 years old is also the advancement of medicine. Health progress over the last 50 years is staggering. Many diseases that were incurable 100 years ago are now completely curable. But are we prepared to live 100 years, the answer is NO. Most people live as if they will retire at 60 and live for 80 years. People work a lot and have too little free time to rest. =================================================== - 21 -

As a result, they become mentally and physically ill. Such a lifestyle is dangerous because the reality is that people are likely to work until they are 80 years old. You will need to pay for your own pension, and rely on yourself at a time when you would need others most. The renowned Slovenian doctor, a cardiologist, with whom we hang out on Sundays at Pečovniška koča in Celje, has his daughter in Canada, where she lives with his family. He visits her many times and returns from Canada to the States by train. When we talked about the elderly population in Slovenia and America, he said how he sees elderly people, aged 80 and 90 years on these trains, how they work in various jobs for which we in Slovenia think are reserved only for young people.

CHAPTER 2 THE INFLUENCE OF THE MIND ON LONG LIFE Perseverance, creativity, flexibility are the characteristics of centenarians and super centenarians. The MIND, the mental setup decides how long an individual will live. What does this mean? It`s simple, a long life is 90% a personal decision, the other 10% are genes, surroundings, etc. It is equally important to have a strong purpose and meaning in life at the age of 30 and at 70. One of the surest ways to end one`s life is PASSIVITY. As I have written many times, TARGET-ORIENTED people in life have a great advantage over people who are only RESPONSIBLE. In our seminars for SALES REPRESENTATIVES we often talk about PROACTIVE PEOPLE who are the most successful and who progress the fastest. It means that they have GOALS, INNER STRENGTH and ENERGY to guide them in life. =================================================== - 24 -
