African Partnership Flight Rwanda concludes, connecting militaries through safety Story and photos by Tech. Sgt. Timothy Moore 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs
KIGALI, RWANDA The African
Partnership Flight Rwanda concluded with a closing ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda, March 8. Hosted by U.S. Air Forces Africa and the Rwanda Defence Force, the weeklong event allowed 45 air force delegates from Rwanda, Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal and Zambia to learn from and share ideas with each other and the U.S. Air Force about their safety programs, particularly flight. “The African Partnership Flight is (U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa) premiere military-tomilitary engagement program, and the goal is primarily to build partnerships with various African nations and get them used to working with the United

nating in a field familiarization exercise with teams investigating a simulated aircraft crash. Each team was able to walk the scene and examine the damage to try to determine the cause of the aircraft mishap. To add a further step of realism to the scenario, the scene was littered with actual aircraft parts provided by the U.S. Air Force and the Rwanda Defence Force. “We spent the past four days giving briefs, talking how to conduct a mishap investigation, and today is a culmination of that,” said Chief Master Sgt. Joe Winfield, USAFE-AFAFRICA Safety functional manager. After investigating the scene, each team presented their findings, giving what they believed to be the cause of the crash and recommendations on how to prevent similar future incidents. “We look at safety as a force multiplier,” Winfield said. “It’s always ‘mission first, safety always.’ From any safety incident, you learn to better yourself essentially. So, when we do these mishap investigations, the cause and recommendations lead to better mission enhancement.” To further help the sharing of ideas and cross-communication between the countries, teams consisted of delegates from multiple nations. “The benefit of that is they don’t do a

lot of cross-talk,” Winfield said. “Having them all in a room and talking about the safety programs they have increased the whole because some nations have a fledgling safety program and some nations have a very robust safety program. Bringing us all together to exchange ideas can bring everybody up.” It is through creating opportunities to work and collaborate together that the African Partnership Flight program aims to build aviation capacity, enhance regional cooperation, and increase interoperability. “I enjoyed the interactions with
other countries, learning how they do (safety) in their home (countries) and them learning from us how we operate about air safety,” said Rwanda Air Force Lt. Fernand Ruzigana. “That was the best experience throughout this week. “To the other countries that participated in this forum and the United States, we are honored to have hosted this event and hope, next time, to be invited to (future events),” Ruzigana added. “As we go on, we would like to have more cooperation with them but also with the U.S. Air Force.”

Air Force Surgeon General visits Ramstein Story and photos by Airman 1st Class Milton Hamilton 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs The 23rd U.S. Air Force Surgeon General visited Ramstein, March 4 to 5, to tour the 86th Airlift Wing’s medical units. Lt. Gen. Dorothy Hogg, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, met with Airmen from the 86th Medical Group and 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron while touring their facilities. Hogg said her main objective in visiting the medical units was to get an understanding of the challenges they’re facing and to learn how she can better equip them to do the mission. In light of Women’s History Month, it is worth noting that historically the Surgeon General has been a male doctor. Hogg is the first female and first nurse, to have earned the title of U.S. Air Force Surgeon General. The Air Force Medical Service’s mission is to ensure medically fit forces, provide expeditionary medic support, and deliver trusted care. “Both the 86th MDG and 86th AES are doing incredible things each and every day,” said Hogg. “They’re really focusing in on the mission and doing what’s required to do the mission, both on the readiness side
and in delivering the benefits.” The 86th AES supports the global Combatant Command operations and initiatives by providing full spectrum 24/7, aeromedical evacuation capabilities yearround. “The Surgeon General was able to witness first-hand the 86th AES’s contributions to combatant commanders in a plethora of environments,” said Col. Ronald L. Jones, 86th AES commander. “Throughout her visit, the unit displayed our ability to quickly adapt in an everchanging environment. The team showcased innovative strategies that execute training objectives to produce a mission-ready force.” Jones said the 86th AES is the sole active duty aeromedical evacuation squadron throughout Europe and Africa. “We are the benchmark of excellence through exceptional leadership, readiness, innovation, and international partnerships,” said Jones. “We conduct over 200 operational missions a year, transferring more than 900 patients, expanding through three areas of responsibility.” Jones said the 86th AES commander priorities are rooted in the mission statement, “Take care of yourself, take care of your family, and

together we will take care of the mission.” The 86th AES and 86th MDG fall under the Air Force Medical Services and have a common goal, achieved through specific priorities. “The priorities of the 86th MDG are to take care of the people we are responsible
for and to take care of each other to the very best of our ability,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Christianna Moore, 86th MDG executive officer. “We want to help provide a trained and ready force along with providing patient-centered healthcare.” Moore, one of the points of contact for Hogg during
her tour said, the Surgeon General visit went extremely well. She expects a number of initiatives to be enacted by Hogg and her staff to further support mission capability expansion at Ramstein. The 86th MDG provides healthcare services for approximately 18,571 enrolled beneficiaries, including nearly 10,000 active duty members in three wings, 162 geographically separated units in 93 countries and has the largest Department of Defense military community overseas with approximately 54,000 Americans in the Kaiserslautern Military Community. “At the 86th MDG, we strive to innovate at all levels, cultivate Airmen for staff satisfaction, empowerment, and to maximize potential,” said Moore. Hogg said, the 86th AES and MDG are thinking outside the box. They’re solving problems and not waiting for solutions to come down from headquarters.

Nice guy finishes first, recognized as Airlifter of the Week by Kelly Sanders 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Anyone who has binged on a favorite show knows that three hours can fly by in the blink of an eye. For U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Larry Nice, 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron aeromedical evacuation technician, three hours was all he had to prepare a C-17 to pick up two wounded U.S. Soldiers. The Indiana native proved rank is just a label during the Feb. 25 mission. Despite being the lowest-ranking of the AE crew, Nice assumed the role of Charge Medical Technician and methodically led the preflight and loading of all in-flight medical equipment. He supervised and delegated tasks in such a way that the crew was able to meet a reduced timeline for preflight and takeoff. U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark R. August, 86th Airlift Wing commander, praised Nice for his ability to rise to the challenge: “We’re here to do what Staff Sgt. [select] Nice did for us. Story and photos by Airman 1st Class Milton Hamilton 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs The first annual Young Women in Aviation Day just so happened to perfectly fall during Women’s History Month, March 9. A group of approximately 100 students from various schools around the Kaiserslautern Military Community came to Ramstein to learn about the ranging careers of women working in the aviation field. Brig. Gen. Mark R. August, 86th Airlift Wing commander, spoke briefly to the students and highlighted some accomplishments and contributions of women in the Air Force and in aviation.
After August’s speech, students met several female air crew, toured static displays, the fire department, and the control tower. “The main focus of us being here today is to grow interest in aviation, specifically for women, but there are more than just women here,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Michelle Barker, U.S. Air Forces in Europe near term future plans branch chief. Barker said there is a clear deficit of pilots, but the focus of the Young Women in Aviation Day is to shed light on the aviation career field as a whole, from the women who work for the 86th Security Forces Squadron’s “Ravens,” who fly with the pilots, to the 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.

Jerido showed how fast she could put on her suit and equipment, while also showing the many instruments that protect her during a fire.
“These young girls are asking questions and are able to see what’s possible in multiple aspects of aviation, such as fire-fighting, maintenance, flying the aircraft or working in the tower,” said 1st Lt. Ariel Brown, 480th Fighter Squadron wingman, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. “It’s really good they’re presenting not only the glorified version of being a pilot, but all aspects that go into it.” When asked if this type of representation was available when she was growing up, Brown said, there was not a lot of representation for women in flying, in general, she was interested in it, but didn’t know the many possible career fields in aviation either. Whether students wanted to be a pilot or not, the coordinators of Young
March 22, 2019 Women in Aviation Day wanted to make sure each student that came to the event, could find something that peaked their interest. Jordyn Kline, an 11-year-old Kaiserslautern Middle School student, said she came to the event for the airplanes, but after asking questions to a flight attendant, she decided that it is a career field she would like to explore. “This is our opportunity to have an open house-like event that is geared towards specific folks, that affords them an opportunity to have really focused one-on-one conversations with experts in the aviation field,” said Barker. The KMC students weren’t afraid to be hands-on or ask critical questions. “I think this event makes a difference, you can see the sparkle in the children’s eyes,” said Barker. “They get to look in the airplanes, they get a patch, a goody-bag and get to ask questions.” The Young Women in Aviation Day coordinators are hopeful they can hold this event in 2020, capitalizing off the momentum of a successful first run. “I think this is something that should be enduring, something we can do annually to help people maintain interest in aviation,” said Barker. The overall consensus of the coordinators and the parents of the students who attended, was that the event offered a much needed glance into the lives of professional women in aviation. It was an eye-opener for the young girls who were interested in any aspect of flight. “I’m really glad this event is being held on Ramstein, it would be cool if in twenty years we see some of these girls flying,” said Brown.

DFAS explains civilian relocation tax changes Photo and story by Mary Davis Installation Management Command Public Affairs The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in December 2017 made the majority of government civilian employee relocation entitlements taxable, causing some concern and confusion over what elements would be taxed. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service and U.S. Army’s Personnel Division held a town hall here to provide transparency and answer questions regarding civilian relocation taxable entitlements at the Installation Management Command-Europe’s Workforce Development Center, March 12. “I know this is a sensitive subject, and it’s been a little over a year now since the tax law was implemented in December of 2017,” said Shannon Coppinger, DFAS deputy director of Corporate Communications. “Since that time, we’ve worked with the IRS, [General Services Administration], [DFAS] internal general council as well as DOD general council to make sure we are implementing the law according to how it was put forward.” According to Coppinger, Civilian Permanent Change of Station orders issued prior to 2018 and reimbursements received for those moves were not affected by the TCJA, only the moving expenses paid in 2018 that were taxable prior to the TCJA were reflected as income on civilians’ travel W-2s. Travel reimbursement claims processed between Jan. 1 to Oct. 29, 2018, did not reflect the accurate amount of taxes withheld in accordance with the TCJA. To correct this, DFAS implemented a system change Oct. 30, 2018, to properly calculate the tax withholding and pay that amount to the IRS on the travelers’ behalf. Travelers are responsible for reimbursing DFAS, which resulted in more than 3,500 debt letters issued in February. Travel W-2s that reflect the withholdings paid by DFAS to the IRS were issued to travelers and should be included when they file their 2018 income taxes by the IRS deadline. Travel claims processed on Oct. 30, 2018, and later reflect the appropriate amount of tax withheld from reimbursements per the TCJA, and no debt will be owed by travelers to DFAS. Although moving expenses paid to third-party vendors for entitlements like temporary storage were properly

calculated, corrected W-2s and tax debts may be incurred for Household Goods shipments and other PCS entitlements paid to third-party vendors. DFAS is currently working on a secondary system change to properly withhold taxes from third-party vendor payments to rectify the issue. According to DFAS, the following are taxable PCS entitlements: • En route travel, lodging, meals and transportation including individually billed account and personally procured airfare, governmentissued airline tickets commercially billed account, privately owned vehicle mileage, tolls, taxis, etc. • All House Hunting Trip expenses, including Government Procured Airfare and per diem • All Temporary Quarters Subsistence Expenses, including lodging and meals • All real estate expenses • Non-temporary household goods storage (CONUS) • Temporary HHG storage • Miscellaneous Expense Allowance • Relocation services (i.e., Home Marketing Incentive Payments, property management, etc.) • Withholding Tax Allowance • Relocation Income Tax Allowance • Household Goods Shipment • Privately Owned Vehicle Shipment (CONUS) • Mobile Home Transportation The above entitlements are taxed
at a mandatory 22 percent federal income tax withholding, 6.2 percent Social Security tax and 1.45 percent Medicare tax. Since state and local taxes are not withheld, people must determine if relocation wages are taxable under their current state and local government laws and regulations. What PCS expenses are exempt? • Long-term storage of household goods for employees with duty assignments outside the continental United States • Privately owned vehicle shipments to, from and between overseas locations • Residential sales conducted through the agency relocation services company home sale program. According to DFAS, travelers may file a claim for Relocation Income Tax Allowance after filing their income tax returns for the year their PCS reimbursement was received. These claims are used to ease the federal and state burden associated with their PCS move. RITA can be used by all civilian travelers except: • New appointees • People assigned under the Government Training Act • Individuals returning from overseas assignments for the purpose of separation from government
service (to include retirees) Travelers can elect Withholding Tax Allowance, which serves as an advance on RITA and is deducted from any RITA reimbursement computed in the following year. WTA protects travelers from having to use their relocation expense reimbursements to pay for federal income tax withholding. It is calculated on federal income tax withholding only and does not cover state, local, social security and Medicare taxes and is taxable as well. Instructions for filing RITA can be found on the DFAS website at: https://www.dfas.mil/civilianemployees/civrelo/relocationincometax. html or view the eTutorial at: h t t p s : / / w w w. y o u t u b e . c o m / playlist?list=PLhx_8nsfXqVjPf34sZ8pPVe4MOuxXN5Travelers can elect WTA by filling out the WTA employee agreement form and submitting it with their PCS claims. If WTA is elected, travelers must file a RITA claim within the first 120 days of the following calendar year. Ramstein Mudder, CLEAR Challenge team up by Tech. Sgt. J. Smith 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs This year the annual Ramstein Mudder and the Courage, Leadership, Education, Advocate and Respect, or CLEAR, Challenge will be hosted jointly on May 2 at the Northside Chapel starting at 8 a.m. The Ramstein Mudder builds and reinforces the skills needed to create and sustain a more resilient force. Structured upon the four domains of comprehensive Airman fitness, the event allows Airmen to demonstrate perseverance, endurance, social support, team work, positive thinking and communication. The CLEAR Challenge is a Ramstein Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office event, which aims to increase awareness of sexual assault and its impacts. It also brings information to participants on how to report a sexual assault as well as options for restricted and unrestricted reporting. “Sexual assault is an issue that has a direct impact on our mission. What’s important is that we learn both how to prevent sexual assault but also how to support survivors in a healthy, resilient
manner,” said Kelly Dominguez, sexual assault response coordinator. “This is a chance for our community to come together for a cultural change. It’s a chance to let survivors know we are here for you and we do not accept sexual violence as part of our culture, it simply doesn’t line up with our Air Force Core Values.”
This two-and-a-half-mile event also educates the community on additional support agencies who can assist survivors such as the special victim’s council, equal opportunity office, chaplains and mental health specialists. The obstacle course represents a person’s journey from victim to survivor. The wall climb represents obstacles placed in front of victims, along with the challenge of overcoming them. A litter carry represents the trauma carried with a survivor, but at the same time highlights how others assist with carrying this burden. In addition to the obstacle course there will be a silent walk which honors Ramstein survivors who have This year the annual Ramstein Mudder and the Courage, Leadership, Education, stepped forward Advocate and Respect or CLEAR, Challenge will be hosted jointly on May 2 at the and reported their Northside Chapel starting at 7 a.m. sexual assault.

Topics included up-to-date training, discussions for past and current Air Force Contingency Response capability, and the importance of building partnership capacity through U.S. Air Force Air Advisors. “The CRG is the best organization we’ve come up with yet as the critical enabler for the receiving end for austere airfields,” said Peters.
The 86th CRG was the first contingency response unit created in the Air Force and was founded on Ramstein in Feb. 1999. The 86th CRG was later designated as the 435th CRG. “Secretary Peters was the Secretary of the Air Force when the CRG was stood up in 1999,” said Capt. Daniel McKeown, 435th Contingency Response Support Squadron assistant director of operations. “He was also a big proponent of the CRG.” Peters spoke with members from

around the 435th CRG during the event. “The symposium provided attendees a historical look at the role of CRGs in previous major world events and wars, and what our role in the future is going to look like, from the engineering of an austere airfield, to the protection of it in a contested environment,” said 1st Lt. Korbin Niehaus, 435th CRG executive officer. Even after 20 years of operations, Air Force contingency response keeps looking forward, to see what direction it will go toward in the future.
The Honorable F. Whitten Peters, 19th Secretary of the Air Force, speaks at the Air Force contingency response 20th Anniversary Training Symposium on Ramstein Air Base, March 7. Peters spoke on the growth and changes Air Force contingency response has gone through since it’s formation in 1999.

Shoplifting: It’s not worth the risk
by 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs “Shoplifting continues to be a problem in our community. In particular, incidents involving minors have spiked in the first quarter of 2019. Hopefully, reading this article will help people better understand the consequences for this type of criminal activity and prevent individuals from engaging in this behavior
here in the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center,” said Lt. Col. J. Scott Elkins, 86th Mission Support Group Deputy Commander. When family members are caught, they, along with their military sponsor and the sponsor’s First Sergeant or supervisor, are required to meet with Colonel Elkins to explain their actions. As a result of shoplifting, the
offender loses AAFES, Services/ MWR, and Commissary privileges, and the individual is no longer authorized in any such facility, to include affiliated food service establishments. An individual accompanying someone who is caught may be treated as an accessory and also have their ID card privileges restricted. Additionally, AAFES charges a $200 Civil Recovery Act Fee,
and German authorities may take action by imposing a fine. Many shoplifting incidents occur when minors go to the KMCC after school or during holidays without a parent or adult. It is recommended that parents educate their children on proper behavior in the KMCC and supervise their youth whenever possible. With all the disciplinary actions a shoplifter must face, you may ask, “Why would they do it?” Many teenage offenders do it to see how much they can get away with or to prove to their friends they will not get caught. With many hitech cameras and undercover store detectives throughout the store as well as security forces on patrol, chances are very high they will be caught. A shoplifting incident remains in the Security Forces Management Information System for five years and is accessible during background checks for employment and security clearances. Think about how shoplifting impacts everyone else, your family, your command, merchants and your future. Because when you steal, you steal from all of us.

Ramstein opens soccer season with a pair of victories at Kaiserslautern by Robert Baldwin contributing writer On a day more suited for flying kites than playing soccer, Ramstein opened the 2019 season Saturday with a 2-0 boys victory and a 5-1 girls victory at Kaiserslautern. It was a testament to the advantage of a having an artificial turf playing surface. When the junior varsity games started at 10 a.m., it was in the 40s, raining and excessively windy. The hardy, bundled up fans looked like they were getting ready to watch a sled dog race instead of a high school soccer match. After the recent stretch of rain and inclement weather, a grass field would have been a mud bowl. But the surface at Kaiserslautern was dry and the games proceeded safely. By the end of the fourth game, for the varsity boys’ match at about 5 p.m., the sun was peeking out, but it was still extremely windy, still uncomfortably cold. Kaiserslautern entered the boys contest as the two-time defending European League champion. But with the loss of most of the players that brought home those titles, the Raiders presented a whole new look with just four sophomores and a junior with no varsity experience. Like any team sport, it will take a while for them to get used to each other and find their collective niche. But it is evident that what they lack right now in experience they compensate with speed and athleticism. However, on this day, the savvy and experienced Ramstein team, led by a solid, steady defense, shut them down by negating their speed and taking control of the field. “Our players were able to apply pressure and maintain exceptional positioning throughout the game, especially in the second half,” Coach Alberto Rios said. “Because of this, we were able to limit K-town’s options across the field which was a huge factor in the game’s outcome,” Rios said. Ramstein opened the scoring at 18 minutes. Kaiserslautern goalie Alex Crossley managed to get in front of an absolute rocket and deflect the free kick. But he couldn’t get the handle and the ball squirted to his left and former Raider Conner Mackey swooped in and hammered it home, then celebrated vociferously, for the 1-0 lead. Ramstein’s veteran defenders spent the rest of the half keeping the action in front of them. Whenever the Raiders challenged, they were stopped by steady goalkeeper Garrett Erickson. Kaiserslautern had perhaps

its best chance to score at the 22 minute mark when Jaheim Allen managed to sneak behind the defenders on the left side, but his kick was up and wide. The action then stayed in the middle of the field, no one getting an advantage, until Ramstein’s Jaden Buelvas knocked one in low to the right side just before the half time for the 2-0 lead. “We knew 2-0 was not a guarantee at halftime,” Rios said. “We told everyone to maintain focus and to continue to communicate on the field because we knew K-town would come out with more intensity than in the first half. K-town has some strong players and we had to adjust our defense to accommodate their play. I think the team did just that in the second half and that allowed us to keep the lead and take the win.” The second half was scoreless, but Kaiserslautern had a stretch where it had three free kicks. The closest it got to scoring was when Erickson stopped a header shot following Gianni Dones curving pass. Dones was noticeable because of his passion, speed and toughness. His nose for the ball and aggressive style of play got him knocked down many times by larger defenders, but he always popped up and went for the ball again. Whenever he had it the Royals
seemed a little more on guard. The Raiders looked for him to ignite the offense all game long, but Ramstein kept him bottled up. “We were pleased with the communication on the field,” Rios said. “We will continue to work on that and, of course, our defense. This is only the first game and we know there is still a lot to work on as a team. Focus will be a huge factor moving forward because this is a long season. I think, if this game shows us anything, it shows us the players have a desire to play as one unit, as a team. That will be very important every time we take the field.” Kaiserslautern Coach Enrique John knows it will take some time for his players to get into a rhythm but was pleased with its spring debut. “Our players playing against Ramstein for the first game was indeed a challenge, but I look at it in a positive way,” John said. “The way we played was admirable. We were not dominated in any way. One of the lessons learned was that we have to make better use of the few chances that are presented. If we don’t then the result speaks for itself.” He said it is the responsibility of the coaching staff to integrate the young players and make sure they understand the way of performing at

a level they are not used to. “Just like any other team where you have 14 or 15 new players, they have to learn each other and also how to integrate and become one,” John said. “That is always a challenge, especially with a young team starting out. Being the defending champions, every team we play is going to challenge us, but I’m very confident the players will step up to the plate and bring out the best in themselves. It is a matter of patience and time.” The girls matchup was dominated by Ramstein from the beginning. It is led by ten returning varsity players and a talented quartet of front liners, Haley Deome and Alexis Tri in the middle and Rocio Fernandez and Allie Davis providing support and dominance as left and right wings. The Royals got behind the Kaiserslautern defenders all afternoon and repeatedly tested Kaiserslautern goalie Jaymie Gulley. The tone was set early when Deome got her right foot into one on which Gulley made the point blank save. It was the beginning of a very busy day for Gulley. Ramstein’s midfielders made sure the ball stayed in front of them and continually set up the four attackers to start the action. The athletic Fernandez started the scoring with a 15 foot shot upper right on a pass

March 22, 2019 from Tri at eight minutes. It would have been 2-0 two minutes later, but Gulley stuffed Fernandez and Tri. A few minutes later, Deome outsprinted the defense to the loose ball and slid one in the upper left for the second goal. Fernandez closed out the first half scoring with a hard shot upper right for the 3-0 lead. The stingy Royals defense kept the Kaiserslautern strikers in check and kept the ball in the Raiders end for most of the half. Ball possession was highly in Ramstein’s favor. In the second half, Tri’s aggressiveness and Ramstein’s overall strength and experience kept the pressure on the Raiders net. Ramstein made it 4-0 at the seven-minute mark and Fernandez got her hat trick with a left footer for the 5-0 margin. Kaiserslautern avoided the shutout late in the period when Savanna Vickers got open in the middle and converted a pass from sweeper Chloe Martin, scoring low left, making it 5-1. Ramstein Coach Katina Campbell was pleased with the overall performance for an opening game. “The aggressiveness and speed of the front four were not the only factors to our victory,” Campbell said.
“Our defensive line also provided excellent support and coverage for our goalkeepers, Morgan Lewis and Christene Merrill. Anna Abell, Kat Ruffing, Jane Rawcliffe and Gabby Pace created a ‘great wall’ against the advances of the K-town strikers.” Now that the first one is in the books, the Royals have a better idea of what to expect of themselves. “With the first game behind us, reflection on what is good and what needs improvement is essential,” Campbell said. “I liked the speed and endurance exhibited by all the athletes which fueled the team to challenge the advances by our opponent and dominate the match. We want to work on more effective field crosses, improving our corner kicks, and increasing the communication of the midfield to command and control the field.” Both Ramstein’s girls and boys bus to Stuttgart tomorrow, the girls taking on the defending European League champion and an indicator of where they stand against the league’s elite. Kaiserslautern is also on the road, traveling to Wiesbaden. Ramstein’s next home game will be on March 30. Kaiserslautern is at home again on April 20.

Continued from front page of Properties section You can save even more money by saving energy. Here are some tips to show you how: 1. Install and set a programmable thermostat: Save an estimated 10 percent per year on heating costs by using a programmable thermostat. 2. Use sunlight to your advantage: Choose window treatments that allow you to use natural light
while reducing heat loss and gain. 3. Switch to Energy Star or European Union energy label electronics: Using certified products throughout your home could save energy and money. 4. Choose energy saving lighting: Replacing your most frequently used lights with energy efficient lights or LEDs helps you save a considerable amount of enery. 5. Reduce energy for water heating: You can lower your water heater’s
temperature to a minimum of 60 degrees centigrade, 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and still be safe. 6. Caulk air leaks: Using low-cost caulk to seal cracks and openings in your home keeps cold air out and cash in your wallet. 7. Contact a professional home performance specialist from your utility company: These professionals will do a comprehensive audit of your whole house using special tools to measure your home energy efficiency.

BEST YOU COACHING
Finally lose weight for good with Best You, the holistic health coaching center in Gries. Nutritional expert Michele Jung advises customers on individual metabolic types. “Often there is no realistic goal, broken down into achievable and motivational individual steps, and above all a professional support that bridges low-points and helps to prevent relapses.” says Jung. Jung is committed to health, according to all the rules of the arts. She continues to pass on her knowledge in lectures, at seminars and in her Best You Coaching practice. She describes herself as a health coach. “This is a necessity of modern healthcare,” says the 52-year-old, who wants to motivate others to actively do something for their health, and not only when suffering and illness have already set in. “My health philosophy has always been to move people to move themselves,” says Jung. ”Of course, the doctor or alternative practitioner is important and still the first point of contact for illnesses,” says Jung. But it is more about raising the awareness that fitness, vitality and well-being are - or should be - normal. And she wants to urge you to roll up your sleeves. Her coaching is based on the three pillars of health: nutrition, exercise and relaxation. It is important to use the right relaxation techniques to free your mind and thus your body from the stress of everyday life. Sensible exercise is good for the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal system and even the psyche. The subject of nutrition is the third pillar on which health rests. “Every human being is an individual. Therefore, nutrition must fit to the individual, not the other way around.” But this seems to be the opposite of usual recommendations. Michele Jung provides education on healthy eating, and it often turns out a lot less complicated than expected. Her nutritional counseling begins with a health check - metabolic analysis as the basis of an individual nutrition plan according to a nutritional concept developed by scientists, naturopaths and doctors at healthy balance.“Many people have acidosis, intestinal problems, mineral deficiencies or hormonal problems, which of course do not allow for optimal metabolism.” These topics play an important role in nutritional counseling, as does the tailor-fitted exercise. “With my individual concept, I lead people to healthy, beneficial and fun-loving movement,” says Jung.
