ELEMENTARY
PROGRAM Grades K–5, No Experience Required SING, DANCE, ACT!, GRADES K–1
While working on a song and dance number from popular family musicals, students will learn stage performance basics, vocal instruction, and simple Broadway dance combinations.
BROADWAY PREP, GRADES 2–3
Broadway Prep adds emotion and character in song, scene, and movement. Developing these skills individually and as an ensemble, students analyze scripts and songs for performance, learn correct terminology, and illustrate an understanding of musical theatre basics.
BRIDGE TO BROADWAY, GRADES 4–5
Bridge to Broadway includes more specific and challenging instruction in the three areas of musical theatre performance. Students extend range and character development through physical and vocal exploration, formal study of ballet and jazz, audition preparation, lyric and text analysis, improv techniques, and continued study of ensemble.

STUDENT
PRODUCTIONS Take the spotlight on the Adventure Theatre stage! ATMTC offers students the experience of performing in fully produced student productions. These intensive performance and training opportunities are for motivated and talented musical theatre students. Student Productions provide a challenging outlet for students to develop the skills necessary to be successful, professional performers - including self-discipline, teamwork, problem solving, and self-confidence.
JUNIOR THEATER FESTIVAL HONK! JR Grades 4–8
Students will fly to Atlanta, GA to present 15 minutes of Honk! Jr to Broadway professionals at the Junior Theater Festival over MLK, Jr. weekend, and then return home to perform on the ATMTC professional stage in Glen Echo, MD. The program begins right after the winter break holiday and culminates about a month later: a whirlwind once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students!
ABOUT THE SHOW: Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be. This coming of age story first premiered on West End and is the 2000 Lawrence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. ATMTC STUDENT SUMMER STOCK URINETOWN Grades 6–12
Over the course of this session, students will have daily technique training and rehearsals which will culminate in a full stage production on Adventure Theatre’s professional stage in Glen Echo Park. This program is open enrollment. Students will audition on the first day of the program.
ABOUT THE SHOW: In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter. Tuition: 2,400 Rehearsals: August 5–30, 2019 Performances: August 30, 2019, 7:00pm August 31, 2019, 2:00pm & 7:00pm September 1, 2019, 2:00pm

SCHOLARSHIP STUDENT’S STORY MEET CARLOS CASTILLO, SUCCESSFUL ALUMNUS I am a recent graduate with a degree in Acting from Rider University. During my time at Rider, I appeared in several productions including: Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing, Inherit the Wind, and Gallathea, which we took to the Dionysus Festival in Croatia! Professionally, I have performed in various readings in the Kennedy Center’s New Visions and Page to Stage festivals, including the premier of JJ’s Arcade, Altar Boyz at the Off Broadstreet theater in Hopewell, New Jersey, and I am currently spending my summer as Peter Pan in the world premiere play Tinker Bell at Adventure Theatre MTC. The main thing I learned from my time at ATMTC was how to carry myself with a sense of professionalism at all times. Having the experience of keeping myself on a strict schedule, getting to rehearsal early, and studying my craft constantly has prepared me very well for the college and professional world. Additionally, studying at ATMTC led to many of the connections I have with other people working in the theatre scene. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity that ATMTC gave me to be a scholarship student and for introducing me to the world of professional theatre!
To find out more about applying for scholarships, visit ATMTC Academy online at www.adventuretheatre-mtc.org or call 301.251.5766. To make a contribution toward scholarship students, contact Craig Stapert, Director of Development at 301.251.5766.
