Experience musical theater in a fun, full–day camp for rising grades 1 –6. Your child will work alongside accomplished D.C. area theater professionals and teaching artists during daily rehearsals in singing, dancing, and acting. With props and costumes, singing and scene–work, your child’s experience will culminate in a performance of a full–scale, youth–appropriate show for friends and family on the Adventure Theatre stage. All (4) shows perform each session of camp.

Led by highly experienced and sought–after performing arts faculty, this inclusive three week training program is committed to the development of the next generation of performers by providing focused instruction in an immersive musical theater environment. Each student will be placed into a company based on ability, age, and experience. Companies will work collaboratively during the rehearsal process on assigned musical numbers, vignettes, and scenes to be presented on the last day. There is no audition required for this program, although you may opt to audition for a scholarship.

Learn musical repertoire produced for television or film with instructor, faculty, and award–winning producer Dean McFlicker (The Voice, Smash, America’s Got Talent, The Sound of Music Live, The Wiz Live, and more), with one of their pieces filmed in a typical studio–setting.

SESSION II: CONTEMPORARY MUSICAL THEATER STUDY WITH DAY TRIP TO NYC

August 7–25, 2017

Learn contemporary musical repertoire from Broadway hits like Come From Away, Beautiful, Kinky Boots, Dear Evan Hansen, and School of Rock and participate in a one day bus trip to and from NYC to see a Broadway show and take part in a master class with a Broadway performer.

BECOME A SOUGHT AFTER PROFESSIONAL ATMTC’S PRESTIGIOUS PRE–PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM GRADES 4–12 The Pre–Professional Program prepares committed and gifted students in grades 4–12 for college and/or a professional theater career, led by a highly qualified faculty. The curriculum provides students with inclusive training in singing, dancing, acting, and performance.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS SPRING 2017 PRESCHOOL PLAYLABS Create the Drama Using children’s stories ranging from familiar fairy tales to modern day youth literature, your child will learn the basics of presenting for an audience, improvising, and acting in character.

Acting Up! Journey through the process of acting: a professional teaching artist will guide participants using creative drama techniques employing the basics of acting, improvisation, and character development.

Broadway Baby A magical introduction to the world of song, dance, and make–believe!

Singing for the Stage This introductory vocal course teaches young students the fundamentals of healthy singing and musicianship.

GRADES K–3 Sing, Dance, Act Learn the basics of all 3 disciplines. It’s the best way to introduce your young thespian to the genre of musical theater! Broadway Prep This continuation course of Sing, Dance, Act!, delves further into the craft of musical theater by teaching students to convey emotion and character in song, scene and movement. Mini Play: Horton Hears a Who Students explore the story based on the famous book by Dr. Seuss, its characters, plotline and sequence; working together to create their own theater piece! 16

GRADES 4+ Acting the Song Through vocal exercises and musical theater songs, students will work on tone production, breath support, and basic music theory. Ballet I Ballet I is for the novice or beginner student with full barre and center floor work.

Ballet III Ballet III is the advanced level for students who are able to master complex movements and combinations. Barre and center combinations move faster, and become more complex. Jazz I The prominent form incorporated in Broadway dance, Jazz I is for the novice or beginner student. Jazz II Jazz II continues to hone and strengthen technique in the form, with the addition of more advanced technique, and step combinations. Jazz III Classes include intensive strengthening warm–ups, stretching techniques to elongate and encourage muscle strength, across the floor movements, leaps, turns and center combination work.

Ballet II Ballet II continues to strengthen technique and flexibility, with the addition Tap I of more advanced turns and “Broadway Tap” is the chosen sub–style taught by step combinations. ATMTC, which incorporates upper body and use of arms in addition to a focus on percussive rhythm and footwork.


Tap II Tap II is for the advanced beginner student who has acquired a basic vocabulary and skill set and is developing technique in the form Tap III Tap III is for the intermediate tap student. Student possesses strong technique and is able to master more complex combinations. Tap IV Tap IV is for the most advanced level of student. These are the highest level students prepping for professional or collegiate study. Music Theory I This introductory course will acquaint students with the fundamentals of music theory: Pitch, Staff Notation, the Piano Keyboard, Modes, Major Scales and Key Signatures. Music Theory II The continuation course of Music Theory delves further into the craft of music. Topics include Intervals, Minor Keys and Scales, Triads, Seventh Chords, Roman Numeral Analysis, Meter, Rhythm, and Melodic Dictation.

Acting I Students learn a variety of approaches, methods, and acting techniques with concentrated work in improvisation, character development, and scene work. Acting II In Acting Technique II, students learn a variety of approaches, methods and acting techniques with concentrated work in, monologue study, stage direction, script analysis, and critique.

Contemporary II Contemporary II is for the intermediate student, who possesses a strong foundation and basic vocabulary in Contemporary technique. Ballet/Jazz Combo I The combination course allows students to gain a fundamental knowledge of and preparation for the dance forms of both ballet and jazz.

I want to learn how to become a really good dancer, singer, and actor. Last year at ATMTC I learned so much in the Broadway Revival Study Session, but now I want to learn more. I know that I want to become somebody who is known for making something out of themselves.
