Resources Available Trade Guidelines & Information Booklet A new tool to add to your belt Written for the Wall & Ceiling industry, the Trade Guidelines is a companion to the Australian Standards AS/NZS 2589 and board manufacturers' technical manuals. This booklet is an excellent source of information that contractors can share with their clients to better understand the trade and manage expectations. Compiled by the AWCI ANZ Technical Committee with a broad range of contractor, supplier, manufacturer and technical experience; the Trade Guidelines has been developed with both education and industry "best practice' in mind. The aim is to provide designers, builders, contractors and home owners with information on the wall and ceiling industry and factors that influence the quality of finish. Topics covered in the book: • Design Considerations • Is the Site Plaster Ready? • Installing Interior Linings • Finishing Interior Linings • Inspection • Troubleshooting The first copy is free to AWCI members, so if you haven't gotten your copy yet - get in touch with your local AWCI office to order. It's Not A Board Game OHS for Plasterers made easy The innovative health and safety induction training resource "It's Not A Board Game" has been developed specifically for the plasterboard industry and addresses many of the safety issues contractors face on a day-to-day basis. Featuring an interactive DVD, a comprehensive trainee manual and a step by step trainer's guide, this package is perfect for small to large organizations upgrading OHS training and inducting new people into the industry.

Resources Available Cont... A Guide to Safe Site Delivery The AWCI in association with the Gypsum Board Manufacturers of Australia (GBMA), support "Move it the GBMA way – A Guide to Safe Site Delivery of Plasterboard and Associated Products". Both the AWCI and the GBMA are committed to improving the standard of occupational health & safety in the wall and ceiling industry. Working together to actively provide information to address the safety challenges faced by our industry on a daily basis across commercial & residential construction sites. The purpose of the GBMA "A Guide to Safe Site Delivery of Plasterboard and Associated Products" is to minimize hazards associated with the delivery and on-site storage of plasterboard. The GBMA recommends the guide should be considered by residential and commercial builders, plastering contractors and cartage principals as a tool to assist with providing safe workplaces and practises. Pocket Guides are now available! A handy booklet only 1/4 the size of an A4 you can take anywhere, AWCI now has stocks of these pocket guides available for you. Members have already been mailed their first free copy – contact us if you would like to receive one.

Work Health & Safety Management System AWCI places high importance on doing what we can to ensure our member companies and their workers operate in a safe and healthy environment. To this end the Association has provided the Work Health and Safety Management System Manual. The Manual contains procedures, methods and instructions that will be tailored for our industry against requirements of Safe Work Australia's model Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code of Practice. Members should therefore edit each document carefully to adapt to their own particular situation. We trust you find this resource extremely useful in helping you meet your Work Health and Safety obligations.

Resources Available Cont... Illumination and Decoration of Flat Surfaces It must be appreciated that no building surface is perfectly flat and that the best that can be expected is the appearance of flatness. Unfortunately, this appearance can easily be destroyed by the effect of glancing light, whether natural or artificial. Illumination and Decoration of Flat Surfaces shows the effect of different light sources on a variety of lining materials and paints so that best results can be achieved. Different types of building surfaces are investigated, including set plaster, fibrous plaster, hardboard and gypsum board with gloss and semi-gloss paint applied. This full-colour edition also discusses new building materials such as cement sheet, polystyrene and various composite panels, as well as new building practices, low embodied energy materials and higher energy efficiency of buildings. Illumination and Decoration of Flat Surfaces is a must-have for people involved in the building industry, both commercial and residential. Gauge Kit The new “no arguments gauge kit for plasterers and builders, is designed and produced in Australia by the Association of Wall & Ceiling Industries Vic. Inc., specifically for AWCIV Members and the Plastering Trade. This kit comprising a pair of heavy-duty stainless steel gauges can save you time, money and disagreements. Providing an easy means of showing that the job complies with Australian Standard 2589 on plasterboard joint and angle tolerances.

PROFESSIONAL PLASTERERS

AWCIANZ RTO Courses Available CPC31211 Certificate III Wall and Ceiling Lining The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement. 22137VIC Certificate III Fibrous Plaster (Shopwork) The AWCI RTO, as the Plastering Industry RTO, wishes to ensure that Certificate III Fibrous Plaster Shop Work [22137VIC] skills’ set do not disappear. The industry will benefit, because no Victorian TAFE at this time provides training in this course. Training in this course will ensure that our heritage Buildings can be maintained into the future by qualified tradesmen.

PROFESSIONAL PLASTERERS

SHORT COURSES CPCCBC4047A –Quality Assure Passive Fire Rated Lining Systems The course aims to equip participants with the skills to identify the requirements for passive fire protection systems and supervise the installation for walls, openings in walls, ceilings, air handling systems, penetrations and structural steel. This is a full day course providing you with a Statement of Attainment and a Quality Assure Passive Fire Card. Stilts Safety and Maintenance Course Over 60% of plasterers use stilts. So it stands to reason there's a real need for safety and maintenance training to ensure our plasterers use stilts in a correct and safe manner. A Stilts Safety and Maintenance Course has been developed by Holmesglen TAFE and will be delivered in conjunction with the AWCIV. This four hour course designed specifically for plasterers working in the residential and some commercial sectors will:• Develop skills in the safe use of stilts. • Outline maintenance & assembly procedures. • Upon demonstration of competence, provide you with a Stilts Safety & Maintenance Competency Card. Insulation Installers Course The Insulation Installers Course has been developed by the AWCI ANZ RTO in conjunction with ICANZ and the Clean Energy Council to provide Professional Insulation Installers with a minimum standard of safety and the installation process. Units of competency covered within this course include:•
