Municipal Engineering Foundation Victoria The Foundation was established in 1966 for the express purpose of providing opportunities for engineers working in local government in Victoria to enhance their technical and managerial skills. This is achieved by annually allocating scholarship awards to research a wide range of internal and overseas study. A major focus of the scholarship awards is a group attendance at the American Public Works Association Annual Congress followed by study tours which may include USA, Canada, United Kingdom and Europe. Other scholarships are available for short term study visits and courses within Australia. Recently scholarships have been made available targeting rural councils and university students to attend engineering conferences and emerging leaders programs. The Foundation is very aware of the benefits to the individual and to the local government industry derived from these scholarships and in particular the advantages of overseas exposure. To recognise the major contribution of municipal engineers, the Foundation also seeks on a bi-annual basis, nominations for the MEF Victoria Municipal Engineering Excellence Award for an outstanding engineering contribution to local government. The award can relate to the career achievements of the nominee or to a significant construction or research project developed and overseen by the particular engineer. Details of these scholarships including study reports from past participants are available on the Foundation web site at www.mefvic.org.au. Applications for scholarships are usually advertised in November each year and are available from the website. Further information on any aspect of the Foundation is available from the Secretary by email at mefvic@ozemail.com.au.
