Dear Member, Thank you for your valued support as a member during the past year. Your support has allowed IPWEA to further enhance its reputation as a professional association that provides strong industry leadership and one that represents excellent value to its members through the services it provides. You will have noticed continual improvements and innovation in our communications with regular e-newsletters and other on-line capacity now allowing us to provide to you more efficiently, advice regarding how you can access information, events and other member services. The web site continues to be developed with the Communities of Practice encouraging increased engagement by members; especially “ask your mates” and “asset mates” The 2013/14 year promises to be another successful year. A Plant School was conducted in Armidale in July and will be now be a regular occurrence around the state. The Works Conference will be held in Penrith next May, coinciding with CIVENEX. Regional Forums will be held again with new content, new sponsors and a wide range of topics. There are exciting new initiatives with Professional Development and training. This will include new courses and competency related training; leading to appropriate qualifications. It is a challenging time to be involved in Public Works. The sector is experiencing some rapid change with proposed reforms, asset and infrastructure management and delivery are gaining significant political recognition. IPWEA’s leadership on behalf of its members has been at the forefront in contributing to the Government and other reform processes that are occurring. Major submissions were made on Skills Shortage to the Senate; road safety to the Staysafe Committee; the future of local Government to Destination 2036; as well as a submission to the Productivity Commission.

Our services to members continue to improve. The professional development program enjoyed another successful year. The Regional Forums proved to be very popular with increased attendance and membership is growing. The Roads Congress, Road Safety Forum and Water Directorate forum and State Conference were held at Terrigal in May and featured the Awards for Excellence Dinner. My congratulations are extended to the worthy winners and those who entered their projects for consideration. Next year the State Conference will be combined with the AGM and held in October CIVENEX was again an outstanding success. My thanks to the councils who sent delegates to the exhibition and demonstrated that CIVENEX remains the pre-eminent exhibition for Public Works and Services. I would also like to thank all the members who have contributed to IPWEA by representing the Institute in a variety of forums. For IPWEA to succeed we need continued vitality within our Metropolitan and Regional groups and I would encourage all to participate and support your local group activities. On behalf of the Board and our staff, I thank you for your support and we look forward to your continued membership and support during 2013/14. Yours sincerely,

Greg Moran President IPWEA (NSW) Division
