The Mine Managers Association of Australia (MMAA) The Mine Managers Association of Australia is an association of persons who are employed in senior managerial positions or mining related occupations. Members may be employed in open cut and underground coal mines or other mining operations, be employed as consultants providing technical advice or be engaged in research and education roles. The Colliery Managers Association, Northern District originated in Maitland NSW on 14th December 1941 and was later registered under the NSW Trades Union Act. On 25th October 1944, the name of the association was changed to “The Colliery Managers Association, NSW” to enable Colliery Managers employed in other parts of NSW to join. In March 1949, the Association was successful in having authorities recognise the retiring age of its members as 60 years of age optional and 65 years of age compulsory and in 1952 / 1953, the Coal Industry Tribunal, approved an award for Long Service Leave for Colliery Managers to commence in 1954.
On 6th September 1955, a change in rules permitted persons with the statutory qualification of Manager, other than practising Colliery Managers, to join. This extended membership to Superintendents, Mining Engineers, Rescue Station Superintendents and Inspectors.
The Association plans to achieve its objects by: •
Developing policies to support the objects of the Association, the conduct and professional development of members,
In September 2002, a change of the Association rules extended include managers in senior positions in all mining industries throughout Australia and the Mine Managers Association of Australia (MMAA) was incorporated on 10th October 2002.
