About SFMCA The Australian stockfeed industry supplies a large range of products from complete feeds, supplementary feeds for grazing animals, concentrates and premixes for mixing with other raw materials. The form of products being supplied includes extruded and pelleted feeds, mash or rolled grain mixes, high molasses loose-mixes, liquid feeds, mineral lick blocks and mixes. Feed mills manufacture feeds for every livestock species, with a high degree of technical expertise required to meet the needs of livestock producers. The SFMCA represents all manufacturers and provides national representation in addressing issues of common interest. The SFMCA has been operating for over 50

years with State Associations of Stock Feed Manufacturers in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria (includes Tasmania), South Australia and Western Australia. Individual stock feed manufacturers are members of a State SFMA. Full (active) Membership of a State Association is available to stock feed manufacturers with milling and manufacturing plant located within Australia. The State Associations also readily accept Associate Members, these being companies or individuals who have an interest and involvement with the stock feed industry. Many entities supplying products and services to stock feed manufacturers are Associate members.

Membership Meetings There are five State SFMA branches; Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria (includes Tasmania), South Australia and Western Australia. Each state has an elected executive that organises regular member meetings. Most states hold 4 member meetings per year with these being aimed at providing: • Networking opportunities to mix and socialise with like-minded business men and women. • Working with other stockfeed manufacturers to improve the industry. • Opportunity to meet regularly with other feed millers and suppliers to the industry to address common issues. • Receipt of information from a varied number of speaker presentations.

• Ability to have a say in industry policy development and interaction with government bodies that control stockfeed regulations and controls. Meetings are spread between metropolitan and country venues. The country meetings are often combined with site visits to allow manufacturers to broaden their understanding and experience of the industry and supply chain. For many feed manufacturers operating within a single site business, the SFMA meetings provides a great outlet for meeting and interacting with both suppliers and other manufacturers. Often meetings are combined with a lunch or dinner to increase the level of social interaction within the industry.

Stockfeed Volumes Australian livestock end users utilise around 11.6MMT of feed annually. Members of the SFMCA manufacture over 5,500,000 tonnes, with additional feed use coming from beef feedlot, home-mix and integrated feed users.

SFMCA Development Award The SFMCA Development Award is made to participants in the stock feed industry who have been recognised as having the potential to become future industry leaders. The award is made biennially, with the presentation taking place at the Australasian Milling Conference. Since 2004, the Development Award recognises winners from each of the five state Stock Feed Manufacturers’ Associations.

FeedSafe速 is the industries national quality assurance accreditation program. It has been operating since 2003, with the first mills gaining accreditation having retained this for over 10 years. FeedSafe accreditation is compulsory for all full members and the organisation has been highly successful in gaining new members that have wanted to become part of the FeedSafe program. There are 124 feed manufacturing sites in Australia that hold FeedSafe accreditation. Australasian Milling Conference (AMC) The Australasian Milling Conference (AMC) is the leading conference for feed and flour millers held biennially in Australia. AMC 2014, will be the 13th conference and is being held 25 - 27 May 2014 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. AMC 2014 will draw delegates from Australia, New Zealand and countries in the South Pacific and South East Asia. AMC 2014 will be combined with the PIX (Poultry Information Exchange) conference. PIX is the premier Australasian poultry industry conference. The conference provides a strong technical milling program together with trade displays and social functions.
