New investments unlocking the region's agricultural potential

ONE of the nation’s leading farmland investor, developer and managers, goFARM Australia, is transforming agriculture in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District.

The Australian owned business specialises in large scale projects that improve the productivity and profitability of its farming systems.

Co-founder and Managing Director, Liam Lenaghan, says the business sees a bright future for the region.

As part of its purpose to transform Australian agriculture, goFARM has made substantial investments in soil amelioration and water-efficient irrigation equipment.

General manager of goFARM’s operations in the region, Nick Raleigh, says the business is committed to implementing best-in-class farming systems and remaining ahead with new technology.

“goFARM continues its use of lower-cost drip irrigation for annual crops, and additionally, we are engaging with SupPlant to roll out precision irrigation scheduling technology. We’ve also been trialling autonomous orchard machinery to understand the role it might play at a commercial level”.

In 2021, goFARM established its first two commercial orchards in the region, a 207-hectare self-fertile almond orchard and a 71-hectare high density ‘Afourer’ mandarin orchard. Later this year, the business will commence work on a second self-fertile almond orchard development, approximately 220ha in size.

“The development of new, high value irrigated agriculture will support job creation in the GMID region. We are serious about transforming agriculture and leaving a positive legacy in the communities and industries in which we invest,” Mr. Lenaghan said.

In June, goFARM purchased Aware Super’s Lake Boga portfolio, a 9,014ha aggregation, including 3,721ha of irrigated land and 8,167ML of low-reliability water entitlements. goFARM is in the process of aligning its ‘best-practice’ farming approach to the Lake Boga aggregation, which will include simplifying farming systems and investment in key infrastructure.
