Love on the water The wedding of Leona Woodward and Phil Evans took place on the 21st September 2012 at The Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Cambridge How did you meet? We met back in 2001 when I started to work for the same company he was working for. There was an immediate connection between us - everyone could see it. We started dating and it lasted for about a year. We then went our separate ways but continued to work with each for another 8 years. During those 8 years the spark never went! Phil left the company and I thought I would never see him again until one day a reunion of old colleagues was organised. Phil and I both attended and realised that we were still in love with each other and had been for all those years but could never admit it until then!

What accessories did you have? Initially I wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t going to have a veil but as soon as I put one on it was perfect, my auntie lent me her pearls. Describe your wedding rings? We went for plain wedding bands as I already had an eternity ring and amazing engagement ring. What were the highlights? The punting was a great way to relax on a sunny afternoon and all the guests seemed to enjoy an activity with a difference. However Phil had organised for my uncleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Ska band to play, which was a total surprise and definitely the highlight for me. I donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t think you get many women skanking in their wedding dress.

How did the proposal happen? We had just moved into our new house and invited all of our friends and family over for a house warming party; I knew something was going on as Phil and my dad were talking quietly in the corner. Once everyone had left, he proposed to me and it was the best feeling in the world. He then whisked me away to Rome for a romantic weekend to celebrate.

How did it end? We left the reception and the bridesmaids had decorated our room with champagne, rose petals and little treats (some of the naughty kind), which was a great end to the best day of my life. We were also lucky enough to have a lot of guests stay overnight at the hotel, so it was lovely in the morning waking up and having breakfast with them all before departing on our honeymoon.

Where did the wedding take place? We got married at the Double Tree Hilton in Cambridge, the setting along the river was just perfect.

Where did you go on honeymoon? We decided to have our own road trip to Italy; we booked a villa in Northern Italy for the first week, secluded in the mountains of Pigna. We then set off to see where the wind took us. We travelled through Parma and onto Venice where we stayed in St. Marks Square, then onto the lakes in a beautiful hotel over looking Lake Como. We then drove through Switzerland and decided to stop in Reims, France where obviously it would have been rude not to go round the champagne houses for tastings! It was amazing seeing the caves where the champagne was kept and we did get a little tipsy!

What did the bridal party wear? The adult bridesmaids wore gorgeous red dresses and pearls, whilst the small bridesmaids wore white dresses with customised converse trainers with red laces to tie in with the adults. What was your wedding day style? We wanted a very relaxed small wedding day with no pressure on moving venues or rushing around, which is why we chose the Hilton so we could have the ceremony and reception all in one place. We went punting after the ceremony and relaxed in the lounge before the reception. 20

Winters Tale The wedding of Melanie Turrall and Ian Johnson took place on the 22nd December 2012 at Woodlands Manor in Bedfordshire How did you meet? During year 2000 at work. How did the proposal happen? We had been together for 11 years and I was convinced the proposal was never going to happen, despite Ian being given lots of encouragement from family and friends. The moment finally arrived (it’s a good job I’m patient) on 21st May 2011. For my 40th birthday Ian booked a trip to New York and he proposed while we were on a horse and carriage ride through Central Park. It turns out he’d been planning it for ages and had already bought the ring. I would like to say that moment in Central Park was a complete surprise, however, earlier that morning whilst rifling through his suitcase looking for a travel adaptor, I’d spotted a suspicious looking box hidden within a sock!!!

I spent a long time researching items to use during the day that people may not have seen before. My favourite accessory was a vintage style red post box from Belle Occasion in Flitwick, so guests could deposits cards/gifts safely. Silver candelabra were hired from Classic Tableware hire in Dunstable. We didn’t want a traditional wedding cake, so opted for cupcakes by Missis Cakes in Maulden and they looked and tasted amazing.

Where did the wedding take place? Woodland Manor Hotel, Clapham. We wanted to have the ceremony and reception all in the same place as the weather in winter is unpredictable and we didn’t want guests having to travel between venues.

Describe your wedding rings? I had a plain polished platinum band made to match the band on my engagement ring. Ian’s ring is a brushed platinum band that we ordered from America. It didn’t arrive until 3 days before the wedding as it was held up awaiting Customs clearance which caused some anxiety! I thought we were going to have to use a plastic ring for the ceremony but thankfully a friend who worked for Royal Mail pulled a few strings.

What did the bridal party wear? I wore a gown by Sottero and Midgley and Ian wore a suit by Paul Smith. We wanted an informal and relaxed wedding, so we didn’t have any bridesmaids or a best man, although Ian’s daughter, Maddie, acted as the ring bearer and she wore a beautiful dress by Ted Baker.

What were the highlights? Too many to mention, but I really would have loved it to snow on our wedding day. Knowing this was not likely to happen, I borrowed a snow machine from a friend and set it up on the balcony above the ceremony room. Just before the ceremony started, it was switched on so the snow fell as we said our vows.

What was your wedding day style? I was determined not to have a theme or particular style but I wanted it to feel like a Christmas wedding. The reception room already had a slight vintage feel to it with crystal chandeliers and we kept the decor in keeping with this by hiring candelabra for the tables.

How did it end? We had a hot buffet serving stew, pie and mash .. proper winter food! The entertainment was from a local band called Transition and a DJ from Full Force Events.

What accessories did you have? I wore shoes “Winslet “ by Benjamin Adams and had the “Kate” handbag also by Benjamin Adams, rather than flowers. 30

Is there anything you now wish you’d done differently? I wish I’d relaxed during the morning of the wedding. We didn’t get married until 4pm so I thought I’d spend most of the day being pampered. In reality, I was running around the hotel like a headless chicken, worrying whether they had put the wineglass charms on the glasses and the candelabra on the tables! Where did you go on honeymoon? We spent a fabulous week in Las Vegas and came back exhausted! What plans do you have for your future together? Very simple... to have a long, happy and healthy life.

Hannah Waterman Helps Brides get in Shape for their Big Day

x-Eastenders star Hannah Waterman reckons she can get brides to be in the best shape of their life – with a little help from local fitness trainer Adam Cochrane.

rranging a wedding can sometimes overtake your life and everything else takes a back seat, including your fiance and the quality time you should be spending with each other at this exciting time. This was complete relaxation and serene calmness, giving the feeling we were the only two people in the world. A gentle shower after 15 minutes relieved any tension and washed away the mud. Our skin felt soft and nourished, we then applied a moisturiser before relaxing in the candlelight for ten minutes of peace, leaving us completely revitalised.
