Snow King Queen and
How did you meet? Rob was living in Soldeu & I was there on holiday. `We were introduced by friends in Soldeu on 7th April 2006. We kept bumping into each other at various social gatherings in the UK the following summer….others tell us that the attraction was obvious ….we finally got together on Christmas Eve 2006.
blessing in English – luckily we were put in touch with Rev Bob, a lovely man who would be visiting Andorra from Ibiza at the time of our wedding and agreed to conduct our blessing. On the day, when I arrived at the top of the mountain a group of about 50 skiers were waiting and calling my name and singing ‘Here comes the Bride’ in Catalan!! After the ceremony on the mountain our guests had an hour to change and were treated to a champagne and canapé reception in the hotel at the foot of the mountain. This was followed by a three course wedding breakfast with the usual speeches. In the evening we had a casual après ski party in a pub/ restaurant in the village. Time for everyone to let their hair down and dance the night away. We had a caricaturist for a couple of hours and danced our first dance to Daniel Powter singing ‘Cupid’
How did the proposal happen? Well we had spoken about getting married for a long time but there always seemed to be something going on in our crazy lives. Our daughter was born quite dramatically on 5th June 2011 – I was quite unwell and Rob and our baby spent 3 hours waiting for me to come out of recovery, evidently they had a long chat and decided that it was important for us to get married. He proposed in our kitchen the day we came home from hospital, lots of happy hormonal tears!!!!
What did the bridal party wear? We wore traditional bridal attire the men in frock coats with claret red cravat’s and my adult bridesmaids were in black dresses with cream fur trimmed capes – little bridesmaids were in cream dresses with claret fur trimmed capes and snow boots!!! I wore a gorgeous Sophia Tolli dress with fur trimmed bolero and heels!! Our guests were advised to dress warmly – we had an eclectic mix of furs, ski wear and the brave that came in strappy dresses!!
Where did the wedding take place? Wedding one - this was the official bit in a registry office followed by lunch at the Oxo Tower. My son and two of his oldest friends were our witnesses, doubling up as bridesmaids and photographer!!
Wedding two - We had this crazy idea that it would be amazing to get married in Soldeu. We met there and have spent many happy holidays there since…..not that my skiing ability is testament to that!! In June 2012 we went over to see if we could make it happen. The manager at the main hotel in the resort listened as we tried to explain our vision, after a few moments he said “well it is a bit crazy but I think we can” This was followed by a number of coordinated visits to the section of the resort where we would have our blessing. All of our guests would be transported to the mountain terrace by cable car and snow mobiles would transport those that couldn’t manage the short walk on the snow. Eeek this really was becoming a reality! Soldeu is a Catholic country and it was proving difficult to find someone to carry out the
What was your wedding day style? Traditional with a twist!!
26
What accessories did you have? Not many actually – My adult bridesmaids wore diamante hair clips and I had diamante pins in my hair but forgot to put my tiara in!!! My best luxury item was bringing Chelsey Southam from the Hair Shop over to do our hair – I don’t think that she will mind being called an accessory!!!

Brides Name: Debbie Sayer
Grooms Name: Robert Gordon
Date of Wedding: 27/2/14 - Chelsea & Kensington Registry Office, London 09/3/14 - Soldeu, Andorra Describe your wedding rings? We bought our wedding rings from a shop called Cool Diamonds in Hatton Garden, London. My wedding band is shaped to fit my engagement ring. We both chose white gold in the end.
What were the highlights? There were so many…..being able to carry off our dream was amazing. The fact that so many family and friends travelled to share it with us, seeing our parents and elderly relatives thoroughly enjoying the whole thing. Walking down the aisle (red snow lined carpet) surrounded by snowy mountains under a blue sky. Walking back down the aisle to Zip a Dee Doo Dah by Louis Armstrong, our two year old daughter doing her own thing during the ceremony, my 22 year old son giving me away with my father, Robs face when he saw me…….. How did it end? Late!!! We left our friends partying the night away and met up with everyone for brunch the next morning; sitting outside on a sunny terrace overlooking the slopes. Is there anything you now wish you’d done differently? Not really we had such a perfect day – my only advice would be to think about who you would like in your photos and ask your ushers to help coordinate this. We knew we didn’t want lots of formal group shots so just said take lots of pictures…..we have over a thousand wonderful shots but don’t have many of us with our parents etc
Where did you go on honeymoon? We stayed on for a week’s skiing – we enjoyed time with friends that live over there and some of our guests also stayed on so it was a great opportunity to spend time skiing with friends. What plans do you have for your future together? Lots of adventures – you know it’s never going to be dull!!!

Fete Fantastic
How did you meet? In 1999, I was running my own travel writing company and Martin worked for the Government advising on exporting. He managed to help me win a UK Export Award.
How did the proposal happen? We have been married twice to each other! (long story). The first time Martin proposed on a romantic break in Bath and the second time I proposed to him on a cruise ship in the Med. Where did the wedding take place? On the green in our village; Pavenham in Bedfordshire.
What did the bridal party wear? Due to the informal nature of the wedding, I opted for an ivory ensemble styled on Pippa Middleton’s dress at Kate’s wedding. I’ve been told my derriere is my best feature, so the dress with a row of buttons down the back suited me perfectly. When the wedding was over, my dress was covered in grass stains and mud from the games and zip wire – but what a lot of fun I had. The bridesmaids wore Sapphire for the ceremony and soon changed into their casual gear for the games. Martin, wore a black stylish Italian suit, with a tie to match the colour of the bridesmaids dresses.
What was your wedding day style? Very relaxed, festival/fete style. We played games (rounders and football) and there was a bucking bronco and fair type activities. There were hay bales, a hog roast, a marquee, beautiful Italian style cakes, a rat pack singer, presentations (mini-Oscars theme); the list goes on and on! What accessories did you have? Simple diamond earrings, bracelet, necklace and hair slide. Also white trainers for the games! Describe your wedding rings? A simple gold band for Martin and an engraved gold band for me. The same rings we had first time around.
Brides Name: Julie Minter
Grooms Name: Martin Copland
Date of Wedding: 22nd June 2013
What were the highlights? The games were definitely the highlight. Everyone told Jules they wouldn’t work and that no one would want to play the games in their finery. In actual fact people actually turned up at the church with their trainers in sports bags! We created a buzz on Facebook prior to the wedding and the guests were very competitive. There’s a lovely image of our friend Kate, in a beautiful wedding suit and posh hat, going down a zip wire. How did it end? In a tired heap and with us having to clean up the field and village hall the next day. There’s a nice image of me cleaning out the oven. Very different to our new business venture, Celebration Fetes Limited where we take care of everything.
Is there anything you now wish you’d done differently? Yes, we would have got someone else in to organise our wedding. We found it incredibly difficult to plan our own wedding on top of the day job and we would have loved to have someone organising every final detail from a welcome drink to the thank you cards. Where did you go on honeymoon? The Cyclades in the Greek Islands, we had been island hopping to Greece ten years ago and could not think of a better more relaxing place to go to after all the stress of organising the wedding. I looked so glamorous with a heavy rucksack on my back! What plans do you have for your future together? We spent the honeymoon planning to set up Celebration Fetes and using all of our experience in the corporate events world and the network of contacts and suppliers we have built up, to make other people’s special day as memorable and unique as our own. Celebration Fetes Limited will be open for business at www.celebrationfetes.co.uk at the end of March and will specialise in organising unique festival-style weddings in Pavenham, Stevington, Rushden and Ware.

Bride's Name: Serena Atkins
Groom's Name: Christian Bibow
Date of Wedding: 22nd June 2013
Back to College
How did you meet? Serena was going to a poetry and food evening with a friend who developed an upset stomach, so Christian stood in for him. The friend never got another look in…
the satin was dyed duck egg, into a stunningly chic bolero, basque and pencil skirt. What was your wedding day style? Our emphasis was on bringing together our families and friends, who will support us as we learn to love each other. The afternoon was mostly very traditionally English. Serena’s father preached the sermon; the Bible readings were given by Christian’s sister (in Norwegian); Serena’s Jewish cousin Fleur (in Hebrew) and Anne (in English); finally Serena’s grandfather David (in Greek then English). Rosie played the harp. Serena’s brothers Alex and Ben gave a side-splittingly funny giving away speech, written by Bink. Christian’s speech was impromptu which is more Norwegian, and very moving. The evening was more relaxed, with several Norwegian elements such as speeches and songs, and gravadlax made by Christian himself.
How did the proposal happen? In the usual way. He asked. She said yes…. And then no… And then yes again. Christian is a very patient man.
Where did the wedding take place? In Trinity College, Cambridge, Serena’s college. They couldn’t have been kinder and more wonderful. The service was in the Chapel, and then guests spilled out into the afternoon sunshine and had the most delicious tea in the next courtyard. We were able to invite everyone we wanted, as there was no restriction on space, and guests could mill about and meet anyone they wanted. Afterwards, close family and those who had travelled from afar (Christian is Norwegian) stayed on for the evening, and we punted to a lovely field upriver leant to us by a generous landowner, where we ate supper by candlelight and danced on the grass.
What did the bridal party wear? Serena’s mother Anne found the superb Wedding Workshop in Ampthill, which has got to be the best find ever. Melanie is amazing. Serena had very definite ideas and Melanie designed everything round them. For the bride, layer upon layer of exquisite pure silk lace, which took months to source (from Northern Italy) – almost the only silk lace in the world. Every stitch in the dresses was silk, even Serena’s net petticoats, which gave her gown the most ethereal, dreamlike quality. The two bridesmaids were Serena’s sisters: for the older, Bink (in her 20s) Melanie made a bias cut gown, devastatingly simple, from the same heavy satin that was under Serena’s lace; for the younger, Rosie (10) also the same ivory satin in a bodice and long skirt, with chiffon floating over it. And for Anne,
The family member who did the most was Ben, who had just finished his Cambridge music degree and organised the music for the whole day. For the service: choral hymns with organist, gospel choir, trumpeter and Irish band. For the afternoon: string quartet and saxophone trio. And in the evening: ceilidh band, his own jazz band and close harmony group and finally his brilliant rock band, The Orphans of the Beefy Incident. We recommend him for any wedding, whatever musical style you want. facebook.com/orphansofthebeefyincident

What accessories did you have? We very much wanted to include Serena’s grandmother, Mary. She was the loveliest person who ever lived, and she died before Christian could meet her. So Serena wore her long silk veil and pearl necklace, both of which Anne had worn on her wedding day. To hold the veil Anne found a fresh water pearl tiara (on Ebay!) Serena also wore a beautiful traditional Shetland lace knitted wedding shawl, made by Sheila Fowlie www.shetlandlaceshawls,co.uk
Affinitywedding ss2014.qxp_Affinity Wedding SS2014 12/03/2014 19:15 Page 47
Describe your wedding rings? When we got engaged, David most generously gave Christian Mary’s wedding and engagement rings, which Serena now wears.
What were the highlights? We were thrilled that so many guests told us the service was the highlight of the day. Serena will never forget walking into the Chapel and seeing so many friends, who had crossed seas and given up so much to be with us and pray and celebrate with us. It meant everything to us. And many people said how moved they were during the signing of the register, when Serena’s family sang unaccompanied her favourite hymn, It Is Well with my Soul, arranged by Ben. David, Rosie and Ben all sang solos. It will always be a very treasured moment.
How did it end? With fireworks! That’s when we left, anyway. Ben’s band went on playing for a couple of hours and guests stayed on to sleep in the marquee. Then we surprised Serena’s family by turning up for lunch on Sunday.
Is there anything you now wish you’d done differently? There was chaos over the punt embarkation because of a misunderstanding between the Council and the punt company, so guests were wandering through nettles along the river bank for about an hour. But they all said it was a great way of getting to know each other and made the day even more memorable…
Where did you go on honeymoon? Christian organised a cruise around the Baltic in a tall ship www.starclipperscruises.co.uk which Serena knew nothing about until she stepped on board and was handed a glass of champagne.
Is there anyone else you want to mention? Steven Brooks, our photographer, , was quite wonderful and has become a really good friend. Serena worked as a photographer herself so knew exactly what she wanted, and Anne nearly despaired as Serena rejected one photographer after another. She had seen Steven’s work the year before and nobody else would do. Suddenly, she remembered his name… and miraculously he was still free! stevenbrooksphotographer.co.uk What plans do you have for your future together? We're taking each day as it comes!

The hotel has three of its own restaurants, serving a mix of Mediterranean and International cuisine, as well as bars, serving drinks whilst you laze by the pool overlooking a stretch of Naithon Beach.
huket, one of Thailand's bigger islands, is perhaps best known for its glamorous resorts and lively vibe – a destination that offers the peace and beauty of a tropical island with all the luxuries and amenities of Western life.

Perched on the headland overlooking the crystal water of the Andaman Sea, the hotel offers guests a tranquil and relaxing getaway with direct access to the beach making it an ideal romantic destination.
Beyond the resort as well as the island's Big Buddha landmark and Phang Nga Bay - a crop of limestone cliffs peeking out from the pristine blue sea, the location for The Man with the Golden Gun and now known as 'James Bond Island' - are all close by, you can explore the underwater beauty by snorkelling above or scuba diving below the crystal blue waters of this area.
The open-walled lobby lounge, is surrounded by reflection pools all designed to cool the interior naturally as sea breezes ripple across the surface of the water, and cascades from the cliff top down to the sea.
