Healthy Skin
Naturally As summer approaches and we start to strip off our winter layers we become aware that our skin may have become dull, blemished and dry. Diet plays a huge role in giving us bright, glowing skin. Fruit and vegetables, provides many different anti-oxidants to protect against free radical damage and pre-mature ageing. Here are some of our skin saviours to be found in common foods. Vitamin C As the body cannot produce vitamin C on its own, it needs a regular daily supply from our diet. Really great sources are citrus fruits, kiwis, peppers and broccoli.
Zinc Is an important nutrient in the fight against spots, wrinkles and rosacea as it plays a vital role in the regulation of the secretion of natural oils. We need around 15mg of zinc per day, which can be found in seafood – particularly oysters- whole grains, wheat germ, pumpkin seeds and red meat.
Vitamin A and E Beta-carotene is another invaluable antioxidant for the skin and found in all orange fruit and vegetables including, mangoes, carrots, butternut squash and sweet potatoes. These two vitamins are also to be found in good mono and poly saturated fats and oils from sunflower and pumpkin seeds, avocados and oily fish. They will also help to reduce inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema and chronic dermatitis.
Hormone Balancers Acne is often caused by a hormonal imbalance, particularly if the problem is seen around the chin. Phyto-oestrogens which act as gentle hormone balancers can be found in many foods including whole grains, soya and tofu, lentils, oats and barley, apples and pomegranates and fenugreek, which is an Indian spice used in cooking..
Vitamin B Vitamin B helps the healthy growth and regeneration of new cells throughout our body. This process is going on within skin and all body tissue 24/7, so a plentiful supply of B vitamins are essential for healthy cellular regeneration, as without them we become prone to acne, dry skin, wrinkles and dermatitis. These are to be found in chicken, eggs, wheat germ, fish and whole grains
Herbal teas Nettle and red clover tea is rich in many minerals and vitamins but offers a gentle detoxifier for the blood, which will be necessary in most cases of eczema and acne. Last, but by no means least H2O – de-hydration has a devastating effect on the appearance and health of our skin. Both the sun and alcohol have the effect of depleting hydration levels in the body and the skin will become dry and dull. We need between 1.5 – 2 litres of water a day for the body to function and the demand will increase in very hot weather or to compensate for an increase in alcohol intake, which is a diuretic.
Selenium Selenium, according to research, has a really important role to play in the health of our skin. Skin cells have more resistance to ultra-violet rays if fed with selenium compounds. It has also been shown to be valuable in helping to protect against cancer. Brazil nuts are the richest source of selenium – just four a day will be fine – but shellfish and eggs are two other alternative sources.
Whilst diet plays a huge part in keeping our skin healthy, chronic skin conditions may well require extra help with appropriate supplementation and herbs – both to apply topically and to take internally.

Dear Readers Yesterday is now a dream and tomorrow creates new visions. Think of your customer’s expectations and make sensible business decisions. Nothing great is ever achieved without the passion you find. Add imagination with commitment and keep enthusiasm in mind. For the very first time ever Bedfordshire Business Women are delighted to be chosen as finalists for “Networking Group of the Year” at the FSB Bedfordshire Business Awards 2012. Giving the project 100% commitment and supplying strong evidence was key for delivering a desirable portfolio to the panel of judges. We wait in anticipation for the final announcement at the FSB Business Award ceremony taking place at The Mansion House, Old Warden on Wednesday 13th June. This month I interview BBW’s “Bedfordshire Business Woman of the Year” Deb Markham. Deb owns The Product Marketing Company based in Shefford; she shares her business expertise and offers five valuable tips to keep our heads above water in business. 1. Keep financial focus on your business. It’s crucial to know money coming in and going out of your business every month. How much does it cost you to run your business each year? Employing an efficient book keeper will immediately help give your business the financial attention it requires. 2. Work smart. Seek ways to save time and costs. Do you assess the suppliers you use on a regular basis? 3. Ask advice. You are not expected to know everything! Join online business forums like http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk. This is free and connects like minded individuals. 4. Create your story. Your business is always in competition with other companies offering the same product or service. How do you stand out from the crowd? 5. Stay connected. Business owners can find it a lonely journey. Surround yourself with positive people who believe in you and what you are achieving. Social Media allows you to keep in touch. The Product Marketing Company can provide marketing solutions for all your business needs. www.theproductmarketingcompany.co.uk Our May Man Day Network attracted 180 male and female business guests from across the county. It marked a tremendous occasion and The
Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden was the perfect location. Guests built new contacts and lots of potential business was done. We would like to thank our sponsors FSB, speakers and guests for sharing our special day with us. Preparations are in full swing for “Lifestyle Network,” our next major event to be held on Thursday 19th July. Our hosts, University of Bedfordshire, Polhill Avenue, Bedford will be a fantastic location for BBW to offer a business exhibition just for you! Save the date to attend or why not have the opportunity to exhibit your business to show guests what you can do best! Business stands are strictly limited and selling fast. Members stand price: £80.00, non-members stand price: £100.00. All stand proceeds will enhance funds for our nominated charity of the year, Sue Ryder St Johns Hospice. Don’t delay; reserve your exhibition space today! Please call 07850 617578. On Friday 15th June we proudly present our Presidents Ball. I join forces with the President of Kempston Rotary Club, Keith Lilley for a fun filled night of glamour at The Shanrbrook Hotel. Get in touch if you would like to share our big send off celebrations. Proceeds on the evening will be donated to St Johns Hospice. Ticket price only £45.00 per person. Have a fantastic month and keep connected. For more information please call Kerry on 07850 617578. Warm Wishes, Kerry Cash President BBW

I want flat
ABS Want flat abs? Are you wasting your time doing crunches?
I
get asked pretty much on a daily basis “how do I get flat abs” and I’m sure I’m not the only personal trainer in the country who gets asked this. Often people tell me they are doing 500 crunches a day, as if seeking approval from me and I’m afraid all I can say in return is “why?” and follow that up with “is it working?”I have yet to meet anyone say ‘yes it is’. So why do we insist on doing these ab crunches? I know it makes sense ‘if you want to tone your tummy then work your tummy’ but sadly our body doesn’t work in that way. The abdominal muscles are a complex muscle structure, they provide us with movement throughout our torso and work in conjunction with the muscles in our back to hold us upright and to help us go about our daily movements with ease. There are many factors that can affect the size and shape of your tummy including age, gender, stress, hormones, food and exercise, so an ab-crunch or sit-up is not the answer at all. A much more rounded approach is certainly the key. Everyone has a ‘6 pack’ but unfortunately for most people it is hidden under a layer of excess body fat or, in some cases, excess skin (especially where a substantial weight loss has occurred or post pregnancy), if we were to do hundreds of ab-crunches then it would still be hidden under that layer of fat so this is what we need to address before anything else.
12
Affinity Magazine June2012_Layout 1 copy 17/05/2012 12:46 Page 11
How to lower your body fat
F
irst and foremost, diet. To unveil those beautiful abs we need to lower the amount of fat in your body and the best way to have the biggest impact is the food you eat. As mentioned in previous Affinity articles the best way to do this is to eat clean and fresh food. Ditch the processed foods and opt for lean meat, fresh vegetables and fruit and avoid foods such as bread, pasta and rice. Secondly, exercise. I know I’ve said a hundred times already, ab-crunches aren’t the answer but I’m going to say it again - ab-crunches aren’t the answer, don’t waste your time! We need to look at whole body exercises, such as lunges with the arms going over head, squats with the arms going over head, even exercises such as sprinting short distances or speed cycling short distances can all help with losing the excess tummy. We
need to get your heart rate elevated for short, sharp bursts rather than long, endurance style training. Finally, stress. I know we all deal with different levels of stress on a daily basis and the majority of the time we can address it and deal with it, but the amount of stress in your life can have an impact on the size of your tummy. Cortisol is an important hormone in the human body, it is commonly known as the “stress hormone” because it is secreted when the body is in a fight or flight situation. When you are put in a stressful situation your body secrets more cortisol to deal with the situation facing you. It has some very positive effects on the human body including a quick burst of energy for survival reasons, heightened memory function and lower sensitivity to pain. Whilst this
response is a helpful way of dealing with short term stress we often forget (or don’t have time) to allow our body to return back to it’s state of relaxation, therefore our cortisol levels remain high. High cortisol levels have been shown to have negative effects such as higher blood pressure, decreased bone density, decreased muscle tissue and increased abdominal fat. So if we want to get our tummies looker trimmer then we need to find a way to relax, unwind and allow our cortisol levels to be reduced. For those of you who have been crunching your way to flat abs, please, please stop as now you have the secret formula! For more advice on exercise, weight loss and fitness then please feel free to get in touch with me at jules@hollgroup.com

Are your Feet Ready for
Summer?
Affinity Magazine June2012_Layout 1 copy 17/05/2012 12:46 Page 13
s the weather heats up and with so many gorgeous sandals out there, it’s time to debut your feet for the summer!
A
But if your feet are too hideous for your heels, too scandalous for sandals, or not fit for your flip flops, now's the time to address the issue and get your feet in perfect shape. This task can seem daunting at first, but with these easy steps, getting your feet ready for public exposure is simple. Get a pedicure: This is a luxury that all women deserve to have at least once a month. If you’re embarrassed to have someone else see your feet at such close quarters – don’t worry, you can take comfort in knowing that they have seen feet worse than yours! If you don’t have money to splurge on a pedicure, here’s how you can do it yourself:
1 2
Soak: Either mix half a cup of Epsom salt with warm water (the salt reduces swelling, neutralises odor, and helps to heal skin and nails) or put a few drops of your favourite bath oil and two spoons of baking powder in the water. Sit back and soak your feet for at least 15 minutes. You can soak them for longer for a more relaxing treat! Exfoliate: After soaking your feet, dry them off and using a foot scrub such as Peppermint Smoothing Pumice Foot Scrub from The Body Shop (£7.95) or Neals Yard Pumice Foot Scrub (£14.95) and a foot file (or pumice stone), scrub the heels, sides, and pads of your feet to shed off the dead skin, remember though that where your skin is thickest on your feet, it’s also protecting those areas from extra wear, so don’t scrub at those parts too much!
3 4
Moisturise: Use some cuticle oil and rub it into the cuticles on your toes. Gently push back your cuticles and massage the skin around them. Apply a foot moisturiser to the tops and bottom of your feet, ‘Lush’ Fairtrade Foot Lotion (£7.95) is a good one.
To avoid yellowing toenails, make sure you apply a base coat before your nail polish and always finish with a top coat.
Nails: Clip and file your toenails, creating straight lines. To battle “ridges” on the nails, buff them out with a toenail buffer. Apply a nail polish colour of your choice and paint your toenails, (this is a look that you will have to keep up, toenails with chipped polish look a lot worse than ones that have not been painted at all).
15
Do not even try walking until your toenails are at least dry to touch (even at this point, you must still be careful). Now it’s time to slip into those sexy summer sandals!

Woman of the Month If you’re a regular reader of Affinity, then you’ll know that Jane Fry is owner and editor of your favourite luxury lifestyle magazine. As this is our first Birthday issue we thought it only right to put Jane in the hot seat and make her ‘Woman of the Month’, so we asked readers to send in their questions for her!

Name: Jane Fry
clutched me tighter under his arm taking me under with him, when we got to the surface I was screaming hysterically ‘Daddy’s trying to kill me!’ he was absolutely mortified!
Age: A lady never tells Occupation: Owner/Editor Affinity Magazine
But then there’s the other memory that my children love me to tell regarding my brother, my favourite doll ‘Baby Amanda Jane’, and my dolls arm, I can’t print the story but if you see me and want to ask I’ll be happy to tell!
Resides: Bedford Favourite Film? ‘Taken’ I could watch it over and over again it’s fantastic, and as for Liam Neeson…………!
How would your friends describe you? A rampant sex goddess (only joking), fun, loud and loyal, if I’m your friend I am fiercely loyal and protective of you, that goes for my family as well.
Never leave the house without? My make-up on and my i-phone
Any bad habits or phobias? I don’t think I have any bad habits (I am sure my husband would disagree though) but my phobia is blood and needles ... I am pathetic and faint at the mere mention of it! No one knows how I managed to have three children!
Favourite food? Salmon and asparagus Favourite Drink? Pink champagne, although I have to settle for a cheaper option most times.
What is the most you have ever spent on an item of clothing? £250 on a bra, and £80 on the matching knickers, I needed to impress someone!
What makes you cry? Hmmm I’m quite a softy and cry at silly things whether it’s happy or sad, my kids just say something and then they all look at me and say “look at mum she’s crying again!” But a real tear jerker for me is a film like ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ or ‘P.S I Love You!’ I also cry so much from laughing that my face aches and tears are rolling down my cheeks.
What is your signature scent? Agent Provocatuer How do you relax? With purple candles (little joke there for my friends Caroline & Sarah!), seriously I don’t get much time to relax, but when I do my husband and I escape to a spa for the day to be pampered, that is my idea of pure relaxation!
Your hair and beauty tips? I don’t really have any except I do drink plenty of water, if that counts, and always take my make up off before going to bed, a habit that I have passed on to both my daughters.
If you could have one talent what would it be? To find the time to write a book, I have the most fantastic story waiting to be written, but my family and friends would say to sing as I am the world’s worst singer, yet I can’t help but think I’m good, so it’s always me on karaoke with everyone shouting at me to shut up
What annoys you? Rude people, there is absolutely no need for it, and people who judge others, I have a saying which I constantly preach “Don’t judge others until you have lived their life or you can sit there and say that you are perfect!” and can anyone of us say we’re perfect – apart from me ... ha ha!
What do you constantly put off until tomorrow? Dieting
If you could have any car, what would it be? This question has to be from a guy – I would have to say either a Mercedes soft top or an Audi R8 convertible
Where do you see yourself in ten years time? Sitting on a beach with my husband, children and family sipping champagne, reading the novel I wrote and celebrating Affinity’s eleventh birthday, with my Audi R8 convertible waiting on the road for me!
Shopping, what is your weakness? Dresses, Bags and Shoes! Fancy a date? Depends what you have in mind! If you could recall one childhood memory what would it be? When I was about 4/5 years old my dad tried to drown me! Obviously not intentially, we were on holiday in America and were staying with relations. We were in the pool and he was walking with me under his arm when the pool suddenly got deeper and he was unable to stand so he went under the water, instead of letting go of me he

Community Host YMCA Bedfordshire has been operating a Supported Lodgings and Crash Pad scheme since November 2011. Supported Lodgings provide young people who have experienced homelessness or who are Leaving Care, the opportunity to live with a Community Host. Community Hosts are individuals, couples and families who have a spare room in their home and would like to provide a young person with a safe and positive environment to live in before they move in to their own accommodation. Community Hosts act as live in landlords and from their own experience and daily routine offer non-intrusive support to a young person aged 16-20. We have a diverse range of young people who require lodgings and therefore need a diverse range of Hosts to offer them. One of our current Community Hosts Rosalyn Graham tells us why she wanted to become a Host and what it is like having a young person lodging with her: “I heard of the scheme just as rooms in my house were becoming empty due to my own grown up children moving on. I was so interested in the idea of giving a young person a safe and supportive place in which to settle down and do the vital things around growing up and making good choices - those years 16-18 are so important. I also fancied some company, and having some young energy back in the house! Paris and I met on a cold winter's day in November and two months later she moved in. I had been told young people leaving care often have very little. Not so with this young lady! I had been told that they often like to be out all hours - again, not so - little limpet for the first few weeks! But she and I settled in together so quickly. She is moving her life forward in positive ways and as for me - the house is a different place. We share things but also have our own lives and privacy. She is calmer, beginning to manage big decisions, and showing more maturity by the minute. Me? I'm just 'jokes', apparently. Swear down!” Supported Lodgings give young people a chance at building a positive adult relationship with a Community Host. Paris tells us what it’s been like moving to Supported Lodgings: “I heard about the scheme from my social worker and she gave me Amy's number. I met up with Amy from the YMCA and she gave me all the information and support I needed. After only a few weeks of talking Amy told me that she might have someone perfect for me and some one that will be good for me because she has had children of her own.
In January I met Amy and Ros over a nice cup of coffee and got to know all the answers to my questions. I got the date for moving out and when I moved I felt a change in my behaviour and felt happier with moving on in my life. Whilst living in supported lodgings my anger has calmed down and I have felt very happy with the support that I have been given. Ros has been very helpful with some of the decisions that I have needed to make and also with my college life as well. Also having someone around to talk to and not have them judge you like a little child is AWESOME!!! All in all I have loved being a young adult and the experience has been amazing. If you’d like to find out more about becoming a Community Host please call Amy Elliott, YMCA Bedfordshire on 01234 307040 or email: amy@ymcabedfordshire.org.uk

Summer Pudding This delicious dessert is brought to us from the kitchen of The Millhouse Hotel & Riverside Restaurant in Sharnbrook. Ingredients (serves 6) • 750g/1lb 14oz mixed summer fruits (raspberries, blackberries, red, white and blackcurrants, cherries, blueberries, logan berries or a frozen summer berry mix will do just fine) • 185g/ 6 ½ oz caster sugar • 1 medium loaf of good quality brioche • 2 tbsp cassis or blackcurrant cordial • 20g fresh ginger or 1 tsp ground ginger Method • Place all the fruit in a bowl, pour the sugar over and stir gently to mix together. • If you have plenty of time, cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave for 3- 5 hours (or overnight) to get the fruit to soften and juice to run. If you haven’t got this long, you can just add 200ml of water to the fruit. • Place the fruit into a pan over a moderate heat and bring gently to the boil. Add ½ the fresh ginger at this stage or 1tsp of the ground ginger. • While the fruit is simmering, cut the brioche into thin slices and remove all the crusts. • When the juices begin to flow, raise the heat a bit and simmer for about 2 or 3 minutes. Turn off the heat and stir in the cassis or blackcurrant cordial. • Whether you are making a large pudding or individual ones, cut round a slice of brioche to fit the bottom of the bowl or ramekins, then cut the other slices into triangles to later line the sides of the bowl or ramekins. • Dip one side of the brioche circle into the juices in the pan, and then place it in the bottom of the bowl/ramekins-juice side down. Do the same for the triangles, and place these juice side outwards. The tips of the triangles will be sticking out of the top of the bowl at this stage. • When the bowl is completely lined with juice soaked brioche (filling in any gaps with small bits of brioche if necessary), spoon the fruit and juices into the bowl/ ramekins. • Trim the tips of brioche from the top and cover the top with more brioche to close in the fruit • If you are making individual Summer Puddings, leave to cool and place in the fridge covered in cling film. If you’re making one large one, find a plate slightly smaller than the bowl that will sit on top and weigh it down with weights, so the pudding will become more compact and dense. Allow to cool and put in the fridge with weights still on top. • Next day your Summer Puddings will be ready! Tip out onto a plate and serve with icecream or fresh cream.
Enjoy

Delores soon performs a miracle, transforming the drab choir into show stoppers and they become the most glorious musical act in town, Deloris forms a lasting bond with her newfound friends - and the gang that's chasing her find themselves up against an unstoppable team of soulful sisters!
ow was it really 20 years ago that Whoopi Goldberg – (second choice to Bette Midler) – whipped up a storm as a singer on the run from the Mafia, taking refuge in a convent and transforming the choir from woeful to soulful?
When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses her gangland boyfriend murdering an associate, she needs to go into hiding, so she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found - a convent!

Yes, it was, but the fantastically funny Sister Act has lived on in the memory, revved up even more by Whoopi producing this musical spin-off on Broadway and in the West End.
Based on the movie of the same name, this fabulous, family-friendly, feel-good show is packed with songs inspired by Motown, funk, soul and disco, and is guaranteed to have you tapping your feet and grinning with sheer delight. Sister Act has such infectious energy and joy that I beg anyone to not come away with a smile on their face.
Sister Act is a heavenly hit, full of theatrical joy. In fact there’s NUN better!!
Mother Superior is not impressed by her arrival and wants her out – but the sisters have other plans once they realise Deloris (or Sister Mary Clarence as they know her) can sing, they want the funky nun to help turn their tone deaf choir into something special.

How to Have More
Self Belief D
mind, that it started to prevent almost all positive things, events or circumstances reaching you.
o you lack motivation to move forward because you always find yourself filled with self doubt? Do you find it difficult to make the simplest decisions because of the fear of being wrong?
You trained this filter to accept only negative things in your life. Things that confirmed your status quo.
Self belief is like a shot of optimism to our hearts. It allows us to feel comfortable popping to the shops without make up, say no to a difficult friend and apply for the job of our dreams. It encourages us to take risks and risk reaps rewards.
Now whenever a circumstance or event does not fit in with your low self-esteem, you cannot notice it. This causes you to miss out on good things in life. You feel that you are unlucky, while everyone else is enjoying life. You will never experience a truly exciting life unless you reprogram your old filter.
Building self-esteem takes time, but it’s worth it. It is very likely that something happened to you in your childhood that caused you to have a poor opinion about yourself.
By including the following steps in your daily routine you will start to achieve exactly that. Use Positive Affirmations: By using positive affirmations you make your mind believe that you are a completely different person.
Maybe someone said something that upset you and this deep feeling left an imprint in your mind. You started to dwell on that thought. This caused you to think about yourself in a negative way and see yourself in a completely different light. Subsequently your confidence dropped and your whole mindset shifted. You started to see the world in a different light.
Take Responsibility: You have to understand that YOU are 100% responsible for your life. Nobody else is. You should not blame your parents, spouse, friends or job. You should realise that you have made all the decisions yourself. Maybe your decisions were not the smartest ones, but that’s okay. You will consciously change them following these steps.
As you went on to live with your low self-esteem, you strengthened this new mindset. The more limiting beliefs you introduced to your mind, the lower your self-esteem fell. Eventually you formed such a strong filter in your

Control your Thoughts: Most people do not control their thoughts. Their thoughts control them. If you introduce a thought in your mind and hold it for long enough, it will expand. You started with one thought about low self-esteem, and dwelt on it. That negative thought kept expanding, invited similar thoughts and formed your entire mindset. But you are now aware of that, which means you can start to consciously control what you are thinking about.
become more confident because you will feel that you are getting more fit and energetic. Smile: When you smile it shows that you are happy, successful and confident. The act of smiling relaxes you and makes you see more positive aspects of life. This helps immensely in building self-esteem. Think Outside-the-Box: Instead of thinking “I am such a failure” think “How can I become more successful?” This lets your mind stop maintaining your current lifestyle and start thinking how to improve it. Whenever you catch yourself thinking “I am so miserable” replace this with a question “How can I feel happy today?” This will help you in building more self belief.
Be a Copycat: Choose some person that seems very confident to you. It could be a celebrity, someone you see on a regular basis or even someone you know. Observe everything that person does and copy him/her. This will give you many clues as to how confident people act. You will understand how to behave in a way that will make you succeed in building self-confidence.
“
“
Try to Focus on Good Things not Bad: Give your attention only to things that make you feel great. The more you focus on positive things, the less space you will leave for negative thoughts that maintain your low self-esteem.
Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the face
Set Goals: Start planning your life in advance. Take a diary, select a date that suits you and write down the goal to be achieved by that date. Then divide that goal into smaller steps and enter each step into the appropriate diary page. Once you achieve the goal you will prove to yourself that you’ve gained more confidence. You will realise that the process of building self-esteem is in progress.
Helen Keller Change your Actions: Instead of your usual routine, replace some (or most, if you can) of your actions with their opposites. For example as soon as you come home, you start thinking Do Something Unusual: At least once a week do about how miserable you are. Instead of doing that, as something you have never done before. Go to a confidence soon as you come home, put your favourite music on. This boosting seminar, book a holiday even if it’s just a will break the chain of your daily routine, introducing a weekend away, book a guitar lesson ... the options are completely different action. When you gradually replace limitless. This pushes you out of your comfort zone and most of your actions with their opposites, your mindset lets you experience how it feels to be a different person. will change to a positive one. Welcome to the musings of Yummy Mummy. Living in Bedford she is married to ‘The Husband’ and together they have 3 children, Rafferty, 7, Violet, 5, Roman, 3 and baby No 4 is due this year. All my views are my own and are not intended to offend anyone but alas I may frustrate you as I certainly do myself and no doubt those around me at times. I would love to hear from you, your views, questions or indeed just to share your experiences of trying to be a Yummy Mummy. Email me at info@affinitymag.co.uk
What’s in a Name?
A
s you have probably seen from my introduction above that baby number four is here. Our daughter made her arrival four days after her due date weighing a healthy 9lb 2oz.
So with the baby book of names in hand I got the ball rolling and wrote a huge list of names. Once the children were tucked up in bed, I sat down ‘The Hubby’ after he had been fed, handed him a large glass of red and went through the names with him. As I reeled off the list all I got was outright no’s accompanied by a disgusted look on his face! When pushed for an explanation I got ‘I went to school with someone with that name and she was awful’ or ‘that was the name of my old boss and she was awful’ and ‘we had a cat with that name’ – I was tempted to ask if the cat was awful too! So the task was abandoned and I sulk yet again.
Throughout the pregnancy ‘The Hubby’ and I had the on-going discussion regarding the name – well I say ‘discussion’ but initially it seemed that whatever I suggested he dismissed outright and vice versa. Obviously when he didn’t like my choice I sulked and refused to talk to him - like that was going to change his mind! But I blamed the hormones (this excuse is going to run out soon so I am going to need different tactics to try and win arguments – I would welcome your advice on this!). We did however decide to find out at the second scan whether it was going to be a ‘pink’ or ‘blue’ name, so at least I wouldn’t have to sulk as much! With 20 weeks to go we found out that we had to agree on a ‘pink’ name. You would have thought that with the list being potentially halved that our task would now be easier, however, it was just as daunting. We asked our elder three children for their input, however we didn’t really want her to be named after a children’s television character or a zoo animal! We wanted a name to suit all occasions as she may grow up to be a boardroom ball breaker so we didn’t want it to be too ‘girly’ or if it was, it could be shortened into something more suitable. But then again she may grow up to be very feminine so we had to take that into consideration too. So with these rules in place we started work on the list again, but then we couldn’t agree as to what was either too feminine or masculine – aarrrrggghhhh!
My due date was fast approaching but we were no nearer to making a decision, yet I entered a calm phase (again the hormones) and reckoned that as I would be the one doing all the hard work for her arrival, I should get to make the final choice! And yes, when our little bundle entered the world, I introduced ‘The Hubby’ to his new baby daughter, Clementine! Talking of birthdays I am delighted to wish Affinity Magazine a very happy 1st birthday. Although I wasn’t there at the ‘birth’ I feel like I am part of the Affinity family and am very proud to watch it grow bigger and better and look forward to many more years.............and at least I didn’t have to decide its name!

The Championship play-off final between West Ham United and Blackpool is on my calendar as I have been invited alongside my wife Kirstine by David Gold and David Sullivan as guests for this showpiece occasion. I am obviously supporting West Ham United big time, but it will be no easy game against Ian Holloway’s attackminded Blackpool. It is no surprise that the three relegated clubs from the Premier League last year, West Ham, Blackpool and Birmingham all contested the play-off semifinals. People call it the richest game in the world with the winners getting at least £90 million with promotion to the Premiership. “Come on you Hammers!” The next day, I will be at Wembley Stadium again with my scarf and rattle cheering on Luton Town against York City in the Blue Square Premier final. Both these teams are desperate to get back into the Football League and I hope and pray that it is the Hatters’ year. The following weekend I will be at Wembley to watch the League One play-off and the League Two play-off finals. The following day I will be flying out from Luton for the Chairman’s conference in Portugal which is held by the Football League. This lasts for three days with the AGM taking place on the final day. Being greedy, I am going to go two days earlier and coming back two days later, so expect a tan from me on my return! I return on the 4th June and I have my orders from chairman Darragh MacAnthony and manager Darren Ferguson to sign nine players and sell 11. So watch this space! Finally, congratulations to Jane for all the hard work she has put into Affinity, what an achievement - I’ll be signing her for Peterborough next season!

t’s that time again, the time that most wives and girlfriends dread……..just when they think they’ve got their man back for a couple of months because the football season has come to an end, another major football championship rears its head. This summer it’s the turn of Euro 2012 which will see 16 of Europe’s finest International teams go for glory, kicking off on 8th June across The Ukraine and Poland. The four groups are all very evenly matched and it is testament to the quality that will be on show, with the group stages it is more than likely to go down to the last round of fixtures to decide who qualifies for the knock out rounds.
In Group A, Poland will be cheered on and boosted by their home support, whilst Russia - who have potential - will look at turning this into a good performance. Greece and the Czech Republic are underdogs and we all know what sometimes happens in this game with the underdogs! Group B, or the ‘Group of Death’ as it has been so aptly named, sees two of the big boys, Germany and the Netherlands, go head-to-head. Portugal with Cristiano Ronaldo will look to beat the odds and make it to the knock out rounds, whilst Denmark will be trying to repeat their success of 1992. Group C contains favourites Spain,
gifted Croatia, the gutsy Republic of Ireland, and the unpredictable Italy. It is expected that the Spanish holders and one other team will progress. Finally, a tough group D awaits England and their new manager Roy Hodgson against France, Sweden and Co-hosts Ukraine. English expectations are probably lower than ever, as the side has had no manager in the months leading up to this tournament with Roy Hodgson only being appointed last month (May), and star striker Wayne Rooney suspended for the first two games, few are holding their breath that the 46 year wait for a trophy will come to an end.

Barry Fry’s thoughts…… The FA has been crawling about like a snail and have shocked us all by announcing Roy Hodgson as the new England manager in time for the Euro’s. I know Roy very well, he is a real football man who has played and managed abroad. He has been in charge of two international sides so he has that experience behind him and he has overachieved at places like Fulham and Blackburn Rovers. People talk about his failure at Liverpool; I don’t see it like that at all. I think there was just no way the Anfield crowd were going to take to Roy and he was up against it from the start. In fact King of the Kop, Kenny Dalglish, has had mixed fortunes this season. They won the League Cup final, but have had the worst season in the Premiership with their poorest home record in recent times. We eagerly anticipate the announcement of Roy’s Euro squad with two friendly fixtures scheduled ahead of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine. The game on 2nd June is a sell-out. The fans have not been that keen to book their flights and accommodation in Poland and Ukraine because of the extortionate prices that are being charged. It is a right rip off and I don’t blame the English fans, who are arguably some of the most passionate in the world, giving it a miss. As for England’s success in the Euro’s, I can only see them reaching the quarter-finals at best. Anything beyond that will be a huge bonus. Predictions: I think the teams to watch out for are the usual suspects, Spain, Germany, Holland and the player to watch out for will be Robin Van Persie, who has been in sensational form for the Gunners this season. If he stays clear of injury, he could be the player of the tournament.

Brilliant Brains
We all have one and we all know it is vital but apart from that, most of us don’t have much idea about what the brain is really capable of and how brilliant it is!
A few facts he average human brain weighs about 3lbs (a bit more than a bag of sugar) and uses about 20% of the oxygen that is being pumped around the body in the blood. About 750mls of blood are being pumped through the brain every minute. If the blood supply to the brain is lost it takes only 8 – 10 seconds before unconsciousness occurs. Very few brain cells develop after birth and the brain stops growing at about 18 years of age. The brain is one of the ‘fattest’ organs of the body and consists of 60% fat and while it may be smaller than an elephants brain, humans have the largest brain to body size with the brain accounting for about 2% of human body weight, as opposed to 0.15% for an elephant. There are a staggering 100,000 miles of blood vessels in the brain and 75% of the brain is water. It may surprise you to know that the brain has NO pain receptors, so can’t feel pain.
T
52
What does the brain do? The brain is kind of the ‘boss’ controlling everything we do, keeping us breathing when we are asleep, thinking and dreaming and ‘feeling’ a whole range of emotions. The cerebrum is the biggest part of the brain and accounts for 85% of the brain’s weight, it is responsible for our thinking and controls our voluntary actions, deciding to move, pick up the phone, kick a ball, scratch our head or read a magazine! Our memory is located in the cerebrum, both short and long term, (what you watched last night on TV and where you went on holiday 10 years ago). It is also the part of our brain that gives us the power to reason: if I stay up and watch the movie I’ll be really tired tomorrow. It is the right side of the cerebrum that controls the left side of the body and vice versa and scientists now think that that it is the right side of the brain that enables us to think about colours, music and abstract things, whereas the left is more to do with analysis, logic and speech.
Affinity Magazine June2012_Layout 1 copy 17/05/2012 12:51 Page 51
There is also the cerebellum, a small portion of the brain that helps us with balance, co-ordination and movement. Another small but important part of the brain, is the brain stem which controls involuntary actions; it keeps heart muscles pumping, helps us digest our food and keeps us breathing even when we are asleep. The brain stem connects the brain with the spinal cord which runs down the back and neck. The pituitary gland, only about the size of pea, controls our hormones and there is the hypothalamus which controls our temperature. The brain works with the spinal cord and nerves to let messages flow back and forth between the brain and the body. Nerves contain millions of neurons and these all have branches which can connect to form ‘pathways’. It’s these pathways that make actions we repeat often become easier – when we first try a skill e.g. catching a ball, it can be very difficult but eventually a pathway is formed and we can often complete actions without consciously thinking about them. Through recent research we are finding out more and more about how we can develop new pathways in our brains, which is good news for all of us and shows that we CAN keep on developing and learning new things as we get older. Looking after our Brains We all know the brain is vital, so we all owe it to ourselves to take care of our brains. Firstly we need to eat a good balanced diet – good for the whole body not just the brain. It needs to contain plenty of iron (used by the blood to help transport oxygen) to ensure the brain gets the oxygen it needs. The brain also needs a steady supply of energy, it gets this from carbohydrates (specifically glucose), but as many of us know it’s the energy we get from whole foods like wholemeal bread and pasta, or pulses and porridge that provide a steady stream of energy and not the quick
‘sugar high’ that comes form chocolate biscuits etc., which will leave the brain de-energised and sluggish after the initial high. The brain also needs a steady supply of energy which is why the slow release foods are good and why it is important to have a regular intake throughout the day. It is definitely not a good idea to skip breakfast – it has even been shown that students test results are lower when they haven’t eaten. In addition to food we need water to help the brain work well, a dehydrated brain simply can’t function as well as one that is well hydrated. Exercise is also important for good brain functioning – riding a bike, brisk walks, swimming, any activity which gets the blood pumping will ensure the brain gets the oxygen it needs and as the brain works best when we are getting plenty of rest – it’s when we sleep that the brain can do all it’s updating, exercise will help by making sure we are tired enough to actually sleep. This is especially true during times of intense brain activity like revision and exams. Exercise is also a good way of helping to manage stress which is something that can also have a harmful effect on the brain and the way it functions – in extreme stress we find it hard to concentrate, remember things or even do fairly simple tasks, so managing stress is something we all need to learn. We also know that things like alcohol and smoking are harmful to our brains – it takes just 10 seconds for nicotine to reach the brain once inhaled so if we want to look after our brains we will stay well away. Exams & Revision So as we once again enter the time of year when older children and young people will be facing revision and exams, here’s some tips to help keep the brain in good working order.
Be a Buddy to YOUR Brain • • • • •
Eat a balanced diet containing plenty of fruit, vegetables and whole foods. Try to avoid sweet sugary foods especially before study or exams Make sure you don’t skip breakfast – especially before an exam Try to get some exercise, even a 10 minute burst of something will help Make sure you get a good night’s sleep especially before an exam

commence
Let the chaos
O
ne of the most exciting seasons of work that Royal & Derngate has ever staged, Festival Of Chaos commences with two classic plays, re-invented in vibrant new contemporary versions which have their world premieres in Northampton.
A new version of Euripides’ Greek tragedy, The Bacchae takes audiences into the underbelly of a modern city built on money and greed, where a riotous underground world is emerging. Through song and ritual, Dionysus unleashes the sexuality of a cult of female Bacchae, not only to seek revenge on the city above that he thinks has forgotten him, but to remind us that his spirit lies within us all and we ignore him at our peril. This devastating yet
surprisingly comic tale plunges audiences into an atmospheric world of dancing, drinking and laughter on the one hand… and murder, violence and retribution on the other.
These two world premiere productions are performed in rotation using the same company of actors, and are directed by Royal & Derngate’s Artistic Director Laurie Sansom.
Poetry and music combine in a brand new version of Federico García Lorca’s haunting masterpiece, Blood Wedding, where in a close-knit community in rural Spain, a long-term feud between two warring households simmers under the burning sun. A desperate mother reluctantly agrees to her son’s choice in bride, but on the day of the wedding her worst fears are realised when the bride disappears with a former lover. The flames of the family feud are re-ignited, and the fleeing couple are cornered in the depths of a mysterious forest.
Completing the trilogy of plays that make up the heart of Festival Of Chaos is Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler which can be seen in July. All three plays explore a central theme that has fascinated writers and theatremakers for generations – how deeprooted desires can often exist in conflict with social conventions and ‘expected’ standards of behaviour. Chosen by the Cultural Olympiad to be part of the London 2012 Festival, Festival Of Chaos provides Northamptonshire audiences with the chance to be part of something truly extraordinary in this celebratory year.

Paris
Voulez Vous
P
Take a good guide book and comfortable walking shoes because the only way to really get the feel of the city’s beautiful parks is on foot. Strolling through the Tuilerie Gardens between the Louvre and Place De La Concorde is a very pleasant way to spend a few hours on a sunny day or relax in Parc Monceau, which was a favourite painting spot for the artist Monet.
aris probably has more famous landmarks than any other City in Europe and is considered to be the most romantic, which makes it an ideal place to celebrate an anniversary.
Travel by train from Bedford, it couldn’t be easier – with a very agreeable change at St Pancras International where you can enjoy the boutiques, gourmet dining and even a glass of champagne before boarding Eurostar, which takes you into the heart of Paris in just 2 ½ hours.
The first Sunday of every month the classic museums of Paris open their doors for free entry, but do get there early as they get very busy. You may wish to see Mona Lisa in the Louvre, but plan your time there very carefully, as it is estimated that it would take at least 9 months to glance at every piece of art on display in the world’s largest museum!
Considered one the most ‘liveable’ cities by many, it can also be one of the most expensive. If you eat escargot in a cafe overlooking the Eiffel Tower or shop in the designer boutiques on the Champs Elysees you will pay heavily for the privilege, as you would anywhere in the world, and certainly there are some fabulous hotels, designer shops and gourmet restaurants to spoil your loved one.
As for glorious food, make for the cobblestones of Rue Mouffetard on a Saturday morning and discover a huge open-air food market with fromageries, artisan breads, fish and wines all displayed alongside boulangeries and bistros, relax at a pavement cafe with a coffee and breathe in the truly Parisian atmosphere. Take a bottle of French wine and a picnic to Le Champs De Mars, the

gardens at the base of the Eiffel Tower, for the spectacular lightshow from the tower as the sun sets. Enjoy a Paris fashion show for free at Galleries Lafayette every Friday afternoon at 3pm, when models show off the latest fashion trends, however booking in advance is essential. . A favourite gathering place for artists such as Picasso, Dali and Hemmingway, Montmartre holds a Sunday Market where paintings are displayed by their artists on street stalls and tiny studios open their doors onto the winding streets. The easy going atmosphere makes for a very relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning and if you can manage the many steps to Basilique Du Sacre Coeur you will be rewarded with the most breathtaking view. If nightlife is what you’re after I can promise that the Moulin Rouge should not be missed. Famous for the French Cancan the ‘Doriss Girls’ perform spectacularly colourful shows draped in boas, feathers and sequins with not a bra in sight! However it is very tasteful, full of colour and vitality and when a giant aquarium appears on stage it’s almost unbelievable! It’s worth splashing out for a dinner menu with champagne, as the food is good and the auditorium reflects the history beautifully. With so many hotels to choose from do spoil yourself at the iconic George V, one of the leading hotels of the World, or stay in a tiny guest house in the side streets of Montmartre? Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter on the South Bank of the Seine is Hotel 7. A most unusual boutique property where you will find amongst the Suites, the ‘Lovez Vous’ which has a cowhide covered bath, the ‘Black Diamond Suite’ with a Swarovski Crystal covered bathtub and basin or one of the levitation rooms where the bed and bath appear to float. Not for everyone perhaps, but something very quirky and in an interesting bohemian part of the City. Packages to Paris with Eurostar needn’t cost a fortune and it needn’t cost you the earth when you get there, unless you really do want to splash out of course. Bonne voyage! Gardening
I
n the first official month of summer the garden is still gathering momentum. The daffodils and tulips have made way for the summer flowering shrubs and perennials. Beds and borders are full of foliage and flowers.
Of course as soon as the hosepipe ban came into force the heavens opened and it rained steadily for weeks. What a difference it made to our gardens which became lush and verdant within days. Lawns needed their first cut of the season and the almost daily rain encouraged such rapid growth that they quickly needed a weekly cut – difficult when a dry day was hard to find.
Geum
June is the month when roses come into their own, blooming from now until the onset of winter. And what an amazing range there is to choose from – shrub, climbing, rambling, standard, miniature – in an almost boundless variety of colours, flower shape and different scents. I love to use shrub roses in the mixed herbaceous border – they provide structure in amongst the light and
airy perennials. Many of the newer varieties are repeat flowering which means that once the first flush of flowers have finished the dead flower stems can be cut back to encourage another round of blooms a few weeks later. If you haven’t done so already stake tall perennials to prevent them from collapsing under the weight of their flower heads. I tend to use ordinary bamboo garden canes, cut to size and pushed in around the plant and then tie garden twine around the canes to form a cage. You can also buy plant supports from garden centres which can be used year after year. My plant of the month is the geum, a clump forming herbaceous perennial that is both compact and neat in habit. The flowers appear on long wiry stems above the foliage in bold red, orange or yellow. For me the geum is indispensable in a sunny border and flowers for months on end. My particular favourite is a variety called Mrs Bradshaw which has bright scarlet flowers from May until the first frosts.

ᴥ Remember to feed your containers and hanging baskets weekly with a liquid feed to prolong flowering. Dead-head regularly. ᴥ Hoe between crops in the vegetable garden. ᴥ Harvest new potatoes when plants are in full flower. Carefully dig a little distance from the stems of the plants and pull the tubers from the ground. Gently fork through the surrounding soil to reveal the rest of the unattached potatoes. ᴥ Remember to keep an eye on slug and snail damage in the garden and treat with your chosen control method as soon as any problems are seen.

Woolly
Thinking! When I was a lad, my mother taught me the basics of a lot of threadcrafts. I learned basic sewing, tatting, embroidery and a little tapestry. And she taught me to knit. She clearly wanted a girl, but got – me! Poor Mum. Mum knitted jumpers and cardigans for four kids, herself and my father. It wasn’t pride in her skill that drove her, it was simple economics. So she didn’t have time to knit dolls’ clothes for my two sisters, so I got elected. I can’t remember how many mini-garments I turned out over the years, but it was a more than a few. I was also often deputised to purchase yarn for everyone else’s pullovers, based on very general instructions: “Get green double knitting wool. Take the pattern and work out how many balls I’ll need.” I was well-known in my home town knitting shop and I have vivid memories of it.
We have a great range of Fancy Yarns!
Now, many years later, heigh-ho, I’m the joint proprietor of a shop that sells knitting yarn, among many other craft items. But things have changed. No longer are the best sellers double knitting, chunky and aran yarns (although they do still sell). It’s the fancy ones which people want. They knit scarves, shawls and socks rather than jumpers. And they want bright and variegated colours and unusual textures. European companies such as Rico Design and Adriafil and some US ones such as Crystal Palace have responded to this demand and they turn out all kinds of yarns designed to enable people to follow this passion. The next time you’re in a yarn shop, have a look at the fancy yarns available. You may be surprised at what’s available and what you can do with it!

Bentley Azure T
B
abundant space for four adults to sit comfortably and a luggage compartment measuring 310 litres, which might be slightly tight for people on a weekend away.
entley’s Azure T is quite the all rounder, one of the most luxurious cars in the world, it features a convertible roof, four adult sized seats and a 6.75 litre twin turbo V8 engine with 500bhp. At around £250,000 the only thing this car can’t manage is being even remotely affordable to anyone who hasn’t made it onto the Sunday Times Rich List!
The interior of the Azure T features diamond quilted leather on the door inserts, the seating and the fascia is finished in machined aluminium. There are embroidered Bentley emblems on the seats and the pedals are in drilled aluminium. Customers can also personalise their car with choice of 42 exterior paint colours, 25 different leathers and 8 different unbleached wood veneers.
Lying beneath the bonnet of the Azure T is Bentley’s legendary 6.75 litre V8 engine, but the heirarchy has also seen fit to bolt on a pair of turbochargers for good measure. The handmade V8, develops a thundering 738lb ft of torque, a 14 per cent increase over the standard Azure. It powers the Azure T to a top speed of 179mph and from a standing start to 60mph in 5.2 seconds. The transmission remains the six-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The Azure is a piece of automotive art and the Azure T embellishes the masterpiece with a package of exotic detailing. Anyone spotting an Azure and wanting to identify if it’s the T version or not can look to the 20 inch five spoke alloy wheels, the Le Mans air vents in the front wing or the twin exhaust tailpipes. The car’s classic oblong shape and elegantly distended rear make it a striking prospect, whether the three layer, seven bow canvas roof is folded or arranged. The car offers
There’s also a massive array of bespoke enhancements that can be made to each car by means of Bentley’s Mulliner service. Bentley set out to build the best convertible in the world with its Azure and the Azure is a formidable car, impossibly elegant in its design and brim full of the finest craftsmanship. Most people will never see an Azure T, let alone get the opportunity to get close enough to peep in the window of one to see which member of the elite is luxuriating inside, but if you could encounter one, enjoy it.

Readers questions I have been in a relationship for just over two years, I thought everything was great but my partner informed me a couple of months ago that he didn't want to commit and thus we broke up, I am lost now, as I saw a future with the two of us in it, I keep myself busy but inside I am still hurting, did I do something wrong? Karen C The cards show no fault from you, as you were just led along in a glow of things, which seemed real and which led you to believe that you had the relationship that you had wanted for so long. The only mention that they make of difficulties is that you tended to paper over the small cracks of things which you didn’t want to see, but which were there from the start. For example your partner saying they are just not the commitment kind, (but stayed in the relationship, and would have continued to be there, being committed so to speak if the word ‘commitment’ hadn’t been broached.) Things were going fine, but the need to put a name to it made it scary, and that meant decisions had to be made, which really didn’t need making. So did he love you? And do you love him? If so, you need to decide whether you can put your need for commitment aside, for a happier situation, or if you just need other people to be able to see that he is yours. I have worked hard to build my business in the last year or so, do you see it still being a struggle in the next year or do you see things becoming more financially rewarding for me? Deborah Your work has been a struggle, but as you are beginning to see, it is still holding its own in this time of depression, and although the struggles do continue for a few months more, by the time that next year comes you
will be able to judge your success without concern, as you will be in not only a good position, but also wise to the difficulties which may, at some time, re-present themselves through no fault of your own, so that you can the avoid them. The cards tell me that in this heightened year of monetary depression, there are many festivals and a sort of Wartime Spirit which you can exploit to do the best year of business yet, which then expands on these as yet unused customers within the next few years, bringing you an ongoing, successful and comfortably good living. My friend recently told me she had cancer and after a year of treatment is now all clear, now she has told me her partner has also just been diagnosed with cancer, although she is not the sort of person who usually attention seeks and is normally a very private person, there is something that doesn’t quite sit right with me and I am beginning to wonder if there is any truth in this. I have known my friend for many years and though I feel I should believe her I seem to find myself 'not!' Carrie The cards suggest that while this person didn’t want to lie, the words just popped out because she had been feeling so much better about her life whilst other people were around to show concern and care. Now of course it is impossible to take back, and hurtful to deny, so the only way forward is to let her have a way out, open the doors for a get out route which she can take without losing face, and suggest to her that people have been wrongly diagnosed, and say that you hope and pray that her partner is within this group. That then leaves her a second chance at reality

Psychic abilities
O
ne of the strange things about psychic ability is that it is recognised to cause or show as extreme clumsiness, usually in early life, before such skills are really recognised.
beginners or the learning psychic will feel (or see) is a shadow which is at the corner of the eye, which when looked at properly is nowhere to be seen. The way to pull forward the ability to see spirit is to stop trying to see things, stop trying to work it out, for it is in the very act of trying that the connection is lost. Many people are confused by different psychic abilities, so here is a simple explanation of some of the most recognised.
People who trip over their own feet, spill things, drop things which are securely held, and who can fall over at the drop of a hat, sometimes with spectacular results, seem to always have more than their fair share of psychic and clairsentient energy around them, as if their actions (and their feet and hands) are not always firmly under their control.
Clairvoyance is the ability to see things, including the past and future
Teaching classes to beginners can, because of this, be quite a trial, especially when you consider that they are working with very old crystal balls, and crystal wands, although there have been very few breakages, there are always ‘incidents’.
Clairaudience is the ability to hear things in a spiritual way, and often the first leanings towards this are what seems like a whisper of white noise in the ears, which again if concentrated on will disappear, so the psychic way ahead is to confuse the mind, not seek clarity, and then clarity comes forward. This is the very reason that a crystal ball will work, as the shape of it will confuse objects in a visual sense, allowing the psychic mind to make sense of it all.
Most people who recognise their skills and see the pathway that they are aimed at will suddenly find that this strange clumsiness slowly recedes, and eventually disappears, at least from bodily actions, but may make itself known in other ways. For example, things may begin to disappear from where they are usually kept, only to reappear in the regular place when a long search for the item is over.
Clairsentience is the ability to sense and feel things again, often but not always including pain, illness, future, past, and spirit.
Voices can be heard to call when there is no one there, often very clearly while not heard by other people. Orbs or lights can be seen, as can occasional auras, and usually the core in the palm of the hand can give out sensations of heat. The most regular of possible psychic phenomena which
Medium ship is being able to pass messages between those who are living and those who have passed, and may encompass all or only one of the previous abilities, to help connection; literally the Medium is in the middle between the two souls, as a channel that messages pass through.

A quiet night in....... very year there is one book that causes a real stir and this is that book.
E
This is How it Ends tells the story of two people who collide with each other just as the whole world seems to be caught between the hope and promise of Obama’s election and the catastrophic collapse of the global economy. Bruno is a middle-aged American banker who has come to Ireland to escape the financial meltdown in his own country. Addie is an out-of-work Irish architect. Childless and isolated when she meets Bruno, her life seems to be on a downward spiral. Addie and Bruno’s story is one of nationality and identity, of the power of optimism to defeat despair and the unstoppable march of time. It’s the story of two people who find joy together when they were least expecting it. It's about the past and the future and the elusive skill of living in the moment. It is a love story for our times. It is a ‘future classic!’
