Welcome...

I’m loving...

1

2 3

With approximately seven weeks to go until the big day, we feel it’s quite acceptable to mention that word – Christmas and fill this issue with all that glitters and more.

4 5

We love this time of year, it’s lovely to reflect on Christmas past and the traditions you had as a child that you have now brought into adulthood and your own family. I for one get terribly nostalgic with my childhood memories - I swear to this day I heard Santa’s bells on Christmas Eve.

The countdown’s well and truly on when you open day 1 of your advent calendar, gone are the days of just a picture or a bit of chocolate, now calendars are full of beauty products, alcohol and food – You literally are spoilt for choice, turn to page 16 and 47 for a roundup of our favourites, what one will you choose? I think there’s something just as magical about giving a gift as there is receiving one. The look on the person’s face as they unwrap it is a joy to watch, but I hear you ask “I don’t know what to buy? “Look no further than our Christmas Gift Guide, (page 31) this year it’s back bigger and better than before and has gifts everyone will love.

1. Gucci Crystal GG Necklace, £1,260, Flannels 2. Lulu Guiness Lips Portable Charger, £35, Amara 3. Kate Spade Penguin Ring, £75, www.katespade.co.uk 4. Beaded Earrings, £24, Oliver Bonas 5. Harrods Oliver Christmas Bear 2018, £27, Harrods

The atmospheric cities of Prague, Budapest and St Petersburg stage arguably some of the best Christmas markets around, with stalls selling hand-made Christmas presents, Christmas tree decorations and local food and wine, they are just perfect for a weekend break. Corinthia Hotels have some great offers in these cities if you fancy escaping for a few days of festive cheer (page 64). Remember also, it’s the season of goodwill, a little kindness goes a long way! Until Next Month

Advent Calendar of Health Tips As we all know it is now cool to be kind, so ditch the chocolate advent calendar (they’re so 2017) and be kinder to yourself. Our experts have provided their top health tips to give your day a healthy, educational and optimistic boost in the countdown to Christmas! Day 1: Instagram it! “Researchers suggest that taking a photograph of food just before you eat, concentrates the mind to eat not only healthier foods but also less of it,” explains Dr Marilyn Glenville, the UK’s leading Nutritionist and author of Natural Health Bible for Women (www.marilynglenville.com). Day 2: Feeling the bloat already? “People with gut issues suffer from a wide array of symptoms, from cramping and pain to bloating and gas or strong food intolerances. Looking at gut inflammation and at improving gut environment to promote healthy flora is key for long-lasting results. GI natural powder (£33.75, www.naturesplus.co.uk) is a product that looks at balancing gut mucosal function,” explains Nutritionist at Natures Plus, Martina Della Vedova. Day 3: Feeling hotter than the stove on Christmas day? There is enough pressure hosting for 15 guests; the last thing you want is hot flush after hot flush. If you’re going through the change “avoid drinking lots of coffee and black tea during the day because the caffeine in them can trigger hot flushes and anxiety,” advises Wellness Expert & Author of Body Cycles, Jacqueline Harvey (www.jacquelineharvey.co.uk).

Day 4: Stressmass is a thing! Join the hemp hype and harmonise your mind and body with the Natures Plus HempCeutix Complete capsules (£39.95, www.naturesplus.co.uk). These capsules contain phytocannabinoids that “interact with our nervous system, brain and immune system by helping to increase the activity of natural chemicals produced in our own body known as endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids have effects on many systems and processes in our body, including digestion and appetite, mood, stress response and our immune system,” explains Nutritionist Cassandra Barns. Day 5: Hoping 2019 is the start of your family tree? “Sperm production takes place at 32°C, which is lower than the body temperature at 37°C. The testes are on the outside of a man’s body to keep them cooler. As they get closer to the body (e.g. by sitting for long periods when driving or cycling) the sperm heats up which may reduce the count,” explains Dr. Glenville.

Day 6: Bad breath not caused by the stuffing? “Having undiagnosed diabetes can cause a serious complication known as ketoacidosis in which you would have an acetone like smell on the breath. If you have type 2 diabetes and develop bad breath, this could be a sign of poor glucose control. Improving glucose levels through diet, lifestyle, a herbal Ayurvedic medicine such as Curalin (£59.00, www.curalife.co) or, if indicated, prescribed medication, can help,” explains Dr. Sarah Brewer, working in association with CuraLin Diabetes Supplement.

nov2018.qxp_Jan 2014 Aff 05/11/2018 19:47 Page 11

Day 7: You can’t be here, there and everywhere! “Being assertive is invigorating and empowering. It also helps to make lists of what is, or is not a priority, and to tackle the priority tasks first. This will help give you a sense of control over your life,” says Dr Marilyn Glenville. Day 8: Need a break before getting boozy again? Thanks to it’s natural fizz, Equinox Kombucha (RRP £1.80, Waitrose), is the perfect alternative to alcohol. This refreshingly tasty drink is packed full of beneficial bacteria, essential acids and B-Vitamins to support gut health and aid digestion!

Day 9: Pull that Christmas cracker and share the joke! Having a laugh is one of the best remedies for stress and low mood – it triggers healthy changes in our body. “Many studies show that laughter boosts our energy, decreases stress hormones, improves immunity and diminishes pain. But what’s very important for anyone, who is stressed or feeling down, is that laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the natural feel-good chemicals that make us happier and relaxed,” explains Marilyn.

Day 10: Opt for dark chocolate goodies! “Forget milk or white chocolate goodies – opt for dark milk chocolate instead – the higher the cocoa solid content, the better. Dark chocolate has a lower sugar content and more antioxidant polyphenols that have protective effects on the circulation,” explains Jacqueline Harvey. Treat yourself to Ombar (RRP £1.99, 35g, Waitrose), which is made up of delicious raw, organic cacao and unrefined coconut sugar that is packed full of goodness. Day 11: Why beetroot should be an option this Christmas “Beetroot is as ancient as the Romans and is a wonderfully potent low fat vegetable, full of vitamins and minerals and packed with powerful antioxidants. They are especially high in glutamine which helps keep the intestinal tract healthy,” explains Nutritionist, Alix woods. To get your daily dose of Beetroot, as well as Acai Berry and a number of other Superfoods try the brand new sense* for Busy Lives Superfood Supplement powder (RRP £21.99, Boots), which can be added to your favourite smoothies and juices, or stirred into food. Day 12: Try to avoid eating everything in sight If you’re looking to beat the Christmas bloat then, “don’t be temped to binge eat just because so much food is on offer. You can still indulge but try and eat smaller portions or eat lighter meals in between. Keep active in the home and go for daily walks if possible. Don’t veg out on the sofa all day just because you’re not at work,” advises Jacqueline Harvey.

Day 13: Looking to set the mood as the snow falls? “If you feel you haven’t got time for romance, make time. Give it a higher priority in your life. However busy or stressful your life gets, try to make sure that you have some ‘couple time’ where you can unwind together and talk about your day. And plan regular meals out, cinema trips or weekend breaks so that the two of you get some special time together away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life,” explains Dr. Marilyn Glenville. Day 14: Help combat Sugar spikes this holiday season Did you know that ginger could prevent sugar spikes? “Ginger helps regulate insulin and the breakdown of carbohydrates (glucose) and fats which helps to maintain blood sugar levels and energy,” explains Alix Woods. To get your daily dose of ginger whilst also giving your joints and bones some TLC as the colder weather hits, the brand-new sense* for Joint & Bone Superfood Supplement Powder (£21.99, Boots) is here to help!

Day 15: Perk up your heart health and digestion with parsnips “They are tuberous root vegetables with a number of essential vitamins and minerals. They contain significant potassium which maintain heart health and the fibre content keeps digestion optimised, staving off constipation and even encourages weight loss,” explains Nutritionist, Alix Woods.

Day 16: Remember to make time for SLEEP If you’re laying in bed and your mind is racing thinking about the numerous presents you still need to get, as well as the food shop and the outfits for each occasion then you could try taking a magnesium supplement such as KalmAssure Magnesium capsules by Natures Plus (£11.75, www.naturesplus.co.uk). Cassandra explains, “Magnesium is known as ‘nature’s tranquiliser’ and is needed to relax our muscles and nerves, which helps us to fall into a peaceful sleep.”

Day 17: Make sure water accompanies your Prosecco “Drink at least one and a half litres of water every day to support healthy detoxification. Try to have a glass of water between each alcoholic drink too: it can slow down your drinking and help prevent overeating. And your body will definitely thank you the next day!” explains Cassandra Barns. Day 18: ONE WEEK UNTIL CHRISTMAS Looking for that last energy push to get you through the final week at work? Try having Nairn’s Organic Super Seeded Oatcakes with avo for breakfast (www.nairns-oatcakes.com). Cassandra explains, “oats are great to incorporate into your diet as they are a natural source of vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin B1 and magnesium, which amongst other benefits are vital for energy.” Day 19: If the nutcracker isn’t already out, get it out! “Nuts are a popular Christmas snack that can be good for you by helping to lower cholesterol, improve blood pressure control and can have beneficial effects on glucose control,” explains Dr. Sarah Brewer, working in association with CuraLin Diabetes Supplement.

Day 20: Looking to glow this Christmas and beyond? Specifically formulated for health, radiance and beauty by leading UK nutritionist and women’s health expert, Dr Marilyn Glenville. The NHP Hair, Skin and Nail support (www.naturalhealthpractice.com, £29.77) combines a special formulation of carefully chosen nutrients for women including antioxidants like vitamin C and E, grapeseed extract, selenium and zinc, which help to slow down the ageing process. It also includes other nutrients like biotin for maintaining healthy hair and skin, and vitamin B12 for healthy cell growth. Day 21: Slow down “When you eat slowly you are less likely to overeat. Once you start eating it takes 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full. So, if you eat slowly you will end up eating less food because your brain will tell you that you have had enough. If you eat quickly, you can consume a lot more food than you actually need before your brain realises,” advises Dr Glenville.

Day 22: Overdone it at the Christmas party? Give your liver some loving – “Milk thistle is a traditional herbal remedy often used to support the liver and gallbladder. In fact, it’s been used for over 2,000 years, tracing back to the Ancient Greeks and Romans,” explains Cassandra Barns.

Day 23: The perfect little Christmas tree Make sure Broccoli is on the Christmas dinner menu, “there are a few main types, Calabrese and Sprouting. Broccoli is brimming with vitamins, minerals and fibre. Steam or eat raw for maximum nutrition. They’re rich in antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin which helps prevent cell damage in eyes and body tissues,” explains Alix Woods.

Day 24: Exercise to beat the cravings You’re going to be eating a hell of a lot tomorrow, why not get in your last exercise kick before the big day! Cassandra Barns explains, “Exercising is an appetite suppressant. It stimulates the release of feel good hormones - the same ones, which are released by sweet or ‘junk’ foods, stopping the need for the food you are craving.”

Midlife Madness If you’ve read this column before then you will know that my relationship with things technological is variable at best. Well I must own up to a bit of a turnaround with that AND a mega brilliant idea. Having done a lot of travelling in the UK by car lately my sat nav and I have worked out our really rather minor differences and now have what could be described as a very effective, functional relationship.

And on those long journeys as well as my usual car pastimes, of eating sweets, singing loudly, putting the world to rights when listening to the news (without anyone to disagree I may add) I have also come up with a rather brilliant app. You see what I love about my sat nav is that it tells me what I should do, where I should go and generally it does get me to my intended destination, whilst updating me constantly on my progress though of course essentially I do still retain control because I continue to drive the car and can decide whether to follow the suggested route or not. I might add at this point when I have thought I had a better idea it hasn’t ended well, but that’s not what I plan to go onto here.

No, what I want to suggest is that some very wise, technologically minded person should consider the notion that we are better as humans to ‘automate’ and develop a STA Nav for life. Yes, let that sink in for a moment, just imagine it a buddy to tell you where you should go and even suggest alternative routes that might save time!

Imagine you are faced with a difficult decision and sat nav will tell you that maybe there is congestion ahead or that there are speed cameras. Which if we sort of go with the metaphor that could mean warning about possible consequences of the choice or even more meaningful stuff like the person you were planning to invest with is

actually a bit of a crook. Clearly, there are still a few details to be worked out but you must confess it’s got a few advantages. I bet every single person reading this has agonised over some decisions -it could put a bit of an end to that. I guess one of the major details is the notion that someone has to programme it all – not even sure how that happens with sat navs if I’m honest but happen it must because they get us all where we need to go! Not only would decisions be a lot more logical, or at least we would know what the problems up ahead might be, though of course it would remain our choice, crucially it would really let us off the hook, after all if it all goes wrong then we have someone we can blame. Who wouldn’t love it? But I suppose in some ways like the old printed maps that we used to have, presumably painstakingly put together by someone for our benefit I guess we are already surrounded with people that warn us about things or at least open us up to the possibility of potential problems, but in my experience if we want go ahead with something then we still will even if that does give our nearest and dearest or further away and eminently forgettable folk the chance to say I told you so. Also when it comes to taking responsibility for our choices it seems to me that as humans we are absolute experts at NOT taking responsibility for our choices, In fact most people seem able to blame stuff on everyone or everything else but themselves as decision makers. So maybe unlike a car journey life is all about making mistakes,, taking wrong turnings and having to figure what to do rather than have someone tell us what we should do. Shame though I do like the idea!

Faking it to Feel it!

nov2018.qxp_Jan 2014 Aff 05/11/2018 20:55 Page 21

As humans there are times when we have to do things or ‘be’ a certain way even when it is the last thing we feel like doing or the last way we want to be. In general terms authenticity is important in business, in relationships and in life but there will always be times when we end up having to fake it in some respect. But, that is not a necessarily a bad thing as by actually getting on and doing or even ‘being’ a particular way we can then muster up the particular feelings we need.

If someone says they lack confidence, perhaps in talking to new people the reason why might be because they don’t want to be rejected or because they run out of things to say, or perhaps they struggle with the thought that anyone would be at all interested in what they had to say. But in that situation often the only way to start to tackle those problems is to face those fears and start talking to folk.

In more general terms there is a scientific basis for the ‘fake it to feel it’ mentality. At Harvard it was found that standing in a ‘power pose’ was likely to make you feel more confident, (www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmGd3y5f9g&t=0s). We would probably all be able to acknowledge that on those occasions when we really haven’t felt like doing much at all if we do muster the effort to slap on a smile and get through the day by the end of it we are likely to feel better. This is because the act of moving our muscles into a smile starts a feedback loop to the brain and then we start to feel better.

Of course, a lot of what we do starts with our thoughts, but while we all know we can control our thoughts - though it may be hard at times - we also know that if we can’t that doesn’t mean we have to act the way our thoughts tell us. Often, we override those thoughts, for example we may feel angry if we have been upset by someone, but we may make a conscious choice not to act on those thoughts, if only because of the consequences of an angry response every time someone irritated us -we’d be unlikely to keep a job for very long for example. So, we know that we don’t have to act the way we feel and this is especially true when it comes to confidence and learning. Every time we try something new or perhaps work in new role there will be things we have to do or tasks we need to perform that we probably don’t feel very confident about. But when we do them, usually more than once, and gradually we become more confident in our new expertise. It is the act of doing that changes our feelings and therefore out thoughts, eventually we start to think more positively about those skills or situations.

What we can take from that is that doing is perhaps more powerful in changing our beliefs than thinking.

How to Fake it till you feel it Here’s a few helpful tips for those occasions when you find you have to fake it, remembering that this should be just a step along the way , to be constantly faking it means you would lose authenticity and if there are underlying issues that are stopping you feel the way you want to then it is best to think about how these can be sorted.

1. Remind yourself of your strengths, as humans we somehow find it very easy to focus on our weaknesses on all the things we can’t do, rather than what we can do or what we have achieved.

2. Decide to be optimistic – nothing saps confidence as much as thinking about all the things that can go wrong rather than thinking about the good outcomes the things that could go right. Decide to focus on those. 3. Know your own body – we project ourselves through our body if we are nervous often we will hunch our shoulders or be tense. Put some effort into getting to know how you ‘look’ then work at creating a different image for those times when you need to, practice a powerful pose, and get used to standing tall even if you don’t feel like it.

4. Dress to impress - yourself. Many of us would acknowledge that when we wear certain clothes we feel different. I know many homebased workers who tell me they work differently when they dress as if they were going out to work than they do when they dress in comfy stay at home clothes. Not everyone of course, so it is important to get to know yourself. In many ways when we fake it we are convincing ourselves that we ‘can’ do whatever so anything that helps with that process will be effective.

5. Look outside yourself – having said we need to understand ourselves we also need NOT to become too self-obsessed. Concentrating on others can help us to get a better perspective. I remember once going for an interview and seeing a woman fall just I approached the building. I spent several minutes helping her and of course my nerves vanished, and I felt more confident. Glazed Carrot, Feta and Red Onion Tart Ingredients

“It’s amazing how much flavour there is in the not-so-humble organic carrot”

300g British organic carrots, peeled and cut into batons 2 red onions, sliced 1tbsp olive oil 2 sprigs rosemary 2 sprigs thyme 500g pack puff pastry A little flour, for dusting 1 small egg, beaten with 1tbsp water 1tbsp balsamic vinegar Salt and freshly ground black pepper 4tbsp pesto sauce 100g feta cheese Rosemary or thyme sprigs, to garnish

Method Preheat the oven to 220°C, fan oven 200°C, Gas Mark 7. Put the organic carrots and onions into a roasting tin and add the olive oil, tossing to coat. Add the herb sprigs and roast for 20 minutes, or until the carrots are tender. Meanwhile, roll out the pastry into a rectangle measuring approximately 35x25cm. Transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, score a border about 3cm from the edges of the pastry, without cutting right through. Brush this border with the beaten egg mixture. Allow the organic carrots and onions to cool, removing the herb sprigs. Stir in the balsamic vinegar with a little salt and pepper and toss together. While the carrots are cooling, bake the pastry for 20-25 minutes until risen and golden. Gently press down the pastry within the border. Spread the pesto sauce over this area, then arrange the roasted organic carrots and onion on top. Crumble over the feta cheese and bake for a further 5 minutes. Serve, garnished with rosemary or thyme sprigs. Recipe from www.britishorganiccarrots.co.uk

Fry’s Footie corner

I think the events that unfolded at the King Power Stadium demonstrated that sometimes it is not all about what happens on the pitch. The tragic circumstances that saw Leicester City chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, two members of his staff, the pilot and co-pilot, lose their lives is something that will stay with football fans and people around the world for a long time.

Nobody should go to a football match and never come home. My thoughts and everyone at Peterborough United are with Leicester City Football Club as they come to terms with the loss that they have suffered.

That same weekend, former Tottenham Hotspur star and ex-England boss Glenn Hoddle suffered a heart attack whilst working for BT Sport. Glenn is a player that I truly admired, he was a genius with the ball at his feet and he has carved out a good career in the media. Thankfully, people around him in the studio were able to help him get the attention he needed at that moment in time. It has been a difficult time for Tottenham Hotspur as a whole with problems still surrounding their new stadium. It has forced Spurs to continue playing their ‘home’ matches at Wembley Stadium, but of course with NFL games now a regular occurrence at the home of England,

the pitch has taken a battering, none more so than in that fixture with Manchester City just 24 hours after the American football fixture.

I hope that Tottenham can get their stadium completed soon. They have made a lot of progress on the pitch in recent seasons, but a new stadium is vital to their future. It is also extremely important to their manager who has repeatedly aired his frustration. Closer to home, Peterborough United have enjoyed a good start to the season, but we are not getting carried away. It is a marathon not a sprint and we are taking it slowly, but it has to be recorded what an excellent job Steve Evans and his management have done with such a new group of players. As we move towards Christmas, hopefully we can stay in the mix and then add to the squad should we need to do in the January transfer window. It is about now where the phone starts to get a bit crazy again!

Swapping Sherwood Forest for Milton Keynes Theatre

Shane Richie is

Robin Hood This Christmastime, don’t miss the ultimate pantomime adventure Robin Hood, starring one of the nation’s favourite soap actors Shane Richie.

Join the most heroic outlaw of them all as the arrowshooting hero Robin Hood strives to win the hand of the beautiful Maid Marion while he and his trusty band of Merry Men outwit the evil Sheriff of Nottingham in a show packed full of comedy, action, adventure and plenty of glitz and glamour! Jude Riley caught up with Shane to talk about the past, the present and the future:

Hi Shane. If you were conducting this interview, what’s the first thing you’d ask yourself? I love the dress I’m wearing, it’s lovely.

When did Shane Roche become Shane Richie and why? Shane Rosh – oh, you make it sound so posh. It’s pronounced ‘Roach’ but my wife doesn’t like that so she pronounces it Rosh-ay. I went to work in Spain as a compere when I was 17 and instead of Roche the Spanish put Rochie – with an ‘I’ and pronounced it ‘Rerchie’ and it kinda stuck. Confused the hell out of the taxman as well.

Robin Hood. Romantic lead or daft but loveable comedy character? All of the above. Romantic lead, loveable rogue, he’s a bit of a loser, a bit of a winner. He’s all of the above.

What’s going to be the most fun thing for you about playing this role? It’s that it’s different every show. The great part about doing this, in a big space like Milton Keynes Theatre, is having the cast in the wings going ‘Oh, god, what’s he doing now? He’s gone, he’s in the audience, he’s gone missing!’ And I love that feel about the show.

How do your fellow actors cope with that? They don’t. They don’t cope with it. I see them in the wings going ‘I thought I was going to get the train home tonight, I’ve missed that. He’s off. He was doing Robin Hood, now he’s doing Aladdin. Why is he referencing Peter Pan? What’s going on?’ That’s what I love about the show. Is there anything in Robin Hood that is a real challenge for you? There’s a swordfight in the show that we’re upping the ante with. It’s very physical for me. I’ve got injuries now which I still carry from three years ago. Sword fighting, wrestling

nov2018.qxp_Jan 2014 Aff 05/11/2018 20:58 Page 57

people – fighting! There’s a lot fighting in this kids! If you like fighting you’re gonna love this! It’s like Fortnite on stage!

What frightens you in real life? Failure. But the older I get, the less I worry about failure and the more chances I’m taking. For forty years I’ve been told; I’m brilliant; I’m rubbish. For example, when I first went into Eastenders in 2001 there was a great thing in the tabloid press which said ‘there’s a great reason not to pay your TV Licence – Shane Richie’s going in to Eastenders’ and I’ve still got that cutting. So I’m reminded constantly how it’s an uphill battle. I don’t know if it’s because I’m trying to do different things. I try to avoid being pigeon-holed and it’s not out of choice half the time, it’s out of necessity; I’ve got bills to pay. So if jobs are drying up as an actor I’ve got a wonderful manager who says ‘listen there’s a game show if you fancy doing it.’ And I know I can do them. So I do them. And sometimes that can shut doors but I’ve learnt now that I’ve got a family to look after. I’ve got a wife and five kids to look after and even though the two older boys have flown the nest just the other day (I’ll punch his lights out) my older boy said ‘Dad I need some money’ ‘cos his wages hadn’t gone through. So I’m still looking after him! So yeah, I’m frightened of failure. Not professionally, but of letting my family down. And also, people pay a lot of money to come and see live theatre; it’s not a cheap day out so I want to make sure that when they come away from seeing the show, they come out talking about it and saying that was the best night out for a long time. So for people like me, in the fortunate position I’m in, that’s my responsibility and I take that on board and I think it’s important I remember that. How would you explain panto to someone who had never seen one before? It’s a melting pot of drama, circus, Shakespeare, Dickens, stand-up and freefalling. It’s everything you love if you love theatre whether it’s Chekov or whether it’s Hairspray. It’s in the middle of everything. And if you’re not a fan of theatre, after you’ve seen panto, I think you’ll want to come back. It’s a great theatrical experience and it’s nothing like you’ll ever see again. What has been your wildest panto moment so far? It will happen on the 19th December here in Milton Keynes. That’s all I’m saying…

You’re going to be busy in the run-up to Christmas. When do you get to do your Christmas shopping? On the 19th Dece – no –erm! I will be doing my Christmas shopping here. I love it ‘cos we’re bang smack among all the stores – so I’ll be looking for freebies! What would you like to see under the Christmas tree this year? I’m a big toy collector, I’ve got a lots of 60s and 70s toys, but I’ve just bought a new lilo for my house in Spain. Cost me a

few quid but it’s got a table on it with cup-holders and it’s got a canopy and it’s got blue-tooth on it… What was the question again? Oh, yes, another lilo, another one of those. If there were a new project or a job for 2019 waiting to be unwrapped under the Christmas tree, what would it be? I fancy doing another musical. They sent me a play that I want to do next year but I can’t say too much about it because if it doesn’t happen then I look stupid.

Are you planning to make any New Year resolutions? What are they? Oh, the same old rubbish that I do and then by January 2nd I’m doing it all over again. I made a resolution last year to do less work this year and that went out the window. As soon as the country album went to No.1 – thankfully - then I was doing more gigs with the band. And I ended up doing a new show for Channel 5, a voiceover and I’ve got another TV show I’m recording. I said I wasn’t going to do panto for a while but then Milton Keynes said: ‘Come on! Bring Robin Hood to us!’ ‘OK, Milton Keynes, I’ll do it ‘cos I love ya! I’ll do three weeks.’ ‘Do Five!’ ‘Alright, I’ll do five weeks for ya!’ So much for taking this year off. So my New Year’s resolution will be again, just take time off but, I’ve got bills to pay. If you had to sum up this year’s panto at Milton Keynes Theatre in three words, what would they be? Corinthia Hotels

at the Heart of the Best Christmas Markets The atmospheric cities of Prague, Budapest and St Petersburg stage arguably the best Christmas markets in their main town squares, and each is a walk away from a luxurious Corinthia Hotel. The town squares are filled from November with stalls selling hand-made Christmas presents, Christmas tree decorations and local food and wine. Corinthia Hotel Prague is close to the historical city centre where the main Christmas markets are held between 1st December 2018 and 6th January 2019. Find them at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, five minutes from each other. A large, brightlylit Christmas tree dominates both spaces, surrounded by coloured wooden huts selling traditional handicrafts, glassware, jewellery, embroidered lace, wooden toys, metal ware, ceramics, scented candles, Christmas tree ornaments, hats, gloves and scarves, puppets and dolls.

Visitors can watch traditional foods being made and sample them too, such as ham roasted on spits, barbecued sausages, cakes and pastries, plus locallybrewed Pilsner and Budvar Czech beer to wash it down with. The Old Town Square market has the additional magnet of an animal stable where children can stroke sheep, goats and a donkey. The city runs a festive programme of opera, ballet and concerts through December, including Swan Lake at the Hybernia Theatre, The Four Seasons at St Clement's Cathedral and The Magic Flute at Estates Theatre.

Corinthia Hotel Prague offers a luxurious haven of relaxation in the shape of the Apollo Day Spa for when guests need to unwind from the bustle of the city.
