Our styled shoots show two completely different styles one is old barn charm (page 29) and then there’s romantic and traditional (page 33) both are stunning and are sure to give you plenty of ideas. Edible flowers are so on trend this year, we are finding them everywhere, turn to page 36 to see our round up. You may have your dress all sorted, or maybe not (page 11), but what about your guests, mother of the bride, best friend? This season we are loving Blush (page 42), Monochrome (page 40) and Purple (page 44). And finally, don’t forget the honeymoon, we have one to giveaway, a fabulous twin-centre honeymoon to Thailand, courtesy of Amari Hotels. COSY BARN STYLE
A cosy barn styled shoot that was inspired by the dark, cosy winter evenings and all the rustic feels, add to that a touch of elegance, within the beautiful beamed Manor Barn in Harlton, Cambridge and you create a beautiful, intimate style.
wedding win-spring 2018.qxp_Layout 1 21/01/2018 16:44 Page 28
With the help of some fabulous suppliers the beautiful beamed Manor Barn was dressed with lots of twinkly fairy lights, rustic decor, rich tones, a flower embellished cake, feathers, hessian and lace with handmade place names and invites. Wooden elements like the table sign and welcome wreath dressed with beautiful floral compositions were added, and a table urn brimming with blooms, a sweet heart table garland and an on trend woven hanging willow hoop of flowers added an extra dimension of nature to the jewel hued day. Candles brought a touch of magic with vintage brass candlesticks and lots of tealights to create a romantic ambience. An oversized, loose bouquet conveyed drama in a crimson red, fuchsia, vibrant purple, soft peach & jewel green colour palette.

HOPELESS ROMANTICS
A traditional and romantic love story between a young elegant couple deeply in love, and both hopeless romantics, was the inspiration behind the styled shoot that took place in the beautiful English country house Nonsuch Mansion, Cheam, Surrey. A simply stunning Georgian gem with elegant high ceilings, stained windows, detailed features and fireplaces.

he shoot was effortlessly styled by Katie Stocks from Bride & Beau. Combining colours of beautiful blushes, classic creams and graceful golds creating a luxe and elegant combination. Eva Tarnok of Eva Tarnok Photography wanted to create a beautiful shoot within a grand and historic building with castle-like features meaning Nonsuch Mansion was the perfect option. . Throughout the morning gorgeous model Dina Rims wore a stunning and romantic dress called Annabella. A jaw-dropping gown with elegant lace and hand-beaded embellishments, a real timeless and feminine classic. During the afternoon, she changed into an effortlessly elegant lace two-piece dress Aurelia with a structured satin silk skirt. The look was finished with a classic veil from Victoria Millensime. The beautifully beaded and classic shoes were provided by Emmy London completing the bridal look. The breath-taking and beautiful flowers were supplied by the very talented Liz Indigo Jones from Blue Sky Flowers. Katie told us “We were in love with all the floral styling especially the breath-taking archway with vibrant blush tones and lush wild foliage. The bouquet was a beautiful hand tied bouquet with Ohara Roses, Blush Ranunculus, Hydrangea, Stocks, Sweet Avalanche, Anemones, Jasmise and Lilac and Parrot Tulips and was fastened with a soft pale blush ribbon from Pompom Blossom”. “The fireplace was also one of our favourite features with wild foliage matched with pretty candle sticks and a large urn with high centrepiece flowers. The lanterns from Nonsuch Mansion and Couvert created an even more beautiful setting for the archway and fireplace”. “We created a unique food setting with gold tones and candlelight complimented with rich fruit colours and a true English heritage and love for literature”. The dining table was a luxe, classic and creative design incorporating white linen matched with blush and gold tones to add additional texture and intertwined between gold candle sticks and tea lights to give a natural and elegant candlelight. The beautiful tableware gold charger plates and gold cutlery was supplied by Couvert including fine decorative glassware with gold details matched with a soft blush table runner from Pompom Blossom. The stationery suite added even more romance to the shoot, and was created by Claire Gould from By Moon and Tide, adding a personal and thoughtful touch by creating a beautifully scripted poem with the idea that the groom would give this to his brideto-be so read on the morning of their wedding.

Wedding Trends
2018
for
Tracy Butterfield Wedding Expert and advocate for the Wedding Industry.
Founder of the Four Counties Wedding Awards and WEDx (seminars and training for Wedding Professionals) and Director of Appleby Events tells us her wedding trend predictions for 2018
hat 2018 Trends will you be incorporating in your Wedding Plans? Here are a few of my own predictions with input from my industry pals. Influence shows two opposing choices; minimalism or opulence.
W
Venue - The increase for more intimate weddings & elopements will be evident in 2018. The dry hire option for an industrial, urban or rural venue means you have a blank canvas to add your own unique personality. Most popular destination weddings include Ireland, Italy, Guatemala, Iceland and Thailand. I spoke with Wedding Planner Nadia Wood of Amulet Weddings “Couples are opting for weddings with up to 50 guests. Reducing your guest list will give
you more venue options and you can either save your pennies or use them to treat your loved ones that attend!” “This approach is freeing up cash to go into purchases with longevity such as quality photography.” agrees Photographer Lina Orsino-Allen of Lina and Tom. Style and Décor - With the announcement of 2018 Pantone colour ‘Ultra Violet’, a very regal colour, expect to see a lot of mauve, plum and violet with hints of grey, white and metallic (think iridescent, pearlescent) accents in stationery, candlesticks, balloons and lettering.
Dresses – With a nod to elegant and bygone eras, inspired by shows such as The Crown and the upcoming Royal Wedding, designers are showcasing classical dresses, lots of
volume, tulle and high drama. Nicola Harris of George James Bridal sees a “slight departure from the current boho, vintage trend. We are starting to see modern fabrics tailored to create a couture style featuring mikado and bow details.” Also separates, jackets and colourful, flower detailed dresses. Tiara, a Royal tradition, will be seen in different guises to add that touch of glamour. I caught up with Louie Tew of TH&TH Bridesmaids “Bridesmaids dresses have often been a second thought but not anymore. Brides want their bridesmaids to sit in the same story as their own gown, to ensure the overall look ties together. The gowns should match the prestige of the day, whether it be an intimate ceremony or a grand affair.”
wedding win-spring 2018.qxp_Layout 1 21/01/2018 16:51 Page 37
Cakes – Look out for marbling, mixed metallic designs and sugar flower details. I am reliably informed by my industry friends; Christine Jenson of Peboryon that “flavour is king! We have been spending more time in development of family favourites and heritage flavours for couples. Probably the strongest trend is personalisation.” Elizabeth Solaru of Elizabeths Cake Emporium told me “Art inspired cakes will be in. And Bling is back!”
Florals – Popular arrangements will be archways, hoops and table flowers will be either low and long or hanging floral and greenery planks above tables. Some unusual touches, more likely in displays, will be cacti plant! And for large arches and displays to create a softer look, pampas grass. As Suzy Randall of Flowers by Suzanne advises “Cascading bouquets are making a strong comeback. Just a note to the petite brides out there … don’t be
swamped by your bouquet! I’ve had more requests from brides for pastels, such as soft turquoise, lavender, sage green and grey… it creates a romantic feel. “ Catering - More informal and interactive offerings like the donut wall, gin and prosecco bars, personalised cocktails, multiple food vans for outside weddings and extravagant instagrammable dessert tables. My friends at Feast-it have seen a huge increase in Mexican amongst other cultural foods. “We've had a growth in enquiries for indoor street food which offers a bit more fun and theatre” said Curran Dye. Looking for something a little different then how about the Yorkshire Burrito ? A Yorkshire pudding with fillings rolled like a burrito! Above all, enjoy your planning! Pretty Rustic Jessica and Alistair were married on 22nd July 2017 at Loseley Park in Guildford.
wedding win-spring 2018.qxp_Layout 1 21/01/2018 16:54 Page 47
How did you meet? We met through mutual friends at university in Oxford at the end of our first year. We became a couple at the start of our second year, and the rest is history!
How did the proposal happen? In Mauritius on my birthday two years ago, on the last day of our holiday. Alistair had waited the whole week to propose, with the ring hiding in his suitcase! We’d been out during the day on a boat trip where we saw dolphins and snorkelled, and Alistair proposed as soon as we got back to our hotel room so I still had my wet swimming costume on! He had been planning to propose in the evening at a romantic dinner he had organised on the beach, but in the end decided he preferred the privacy of our room. We shared a bottle of champagne on the balcony in the sun whilst we called our parents to tell them the news and that is a moment I will never forget. Where did the wedding take place? We got married at the beautiful venue of Loseley Park in Guildford. We visited Loseley first for a wedding fair and decided straight away it was the perfect venue for us. It is set in gorgeous gardens, with a very regal Great Hall for the ceremony and stunning Tithe Barn for the reception.
What did the bride wear? I wore a beautiful gown ‘Skyler’ by Augusta Jones, which I brought from Anna Bridal in Ringwood. I only tried on a couple of dresses before I tried Skyler and I knew instantly it was the gown for me. The process was made incredibly smooth by Anna (of Anna Bridal), I didn’t have any worries or doubts at all that my dress was going to be perfect, and I loved wearing it on the day. What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? I struggled a little to find bridesmaid dresses as I knew I wanted something pink, knee length and quite simple. We ended up heading to a shop called Not Another Boring Bridesmaid Dress in London, where we found the perfect dresses by Kelsey Rose. They took three months to make so we ended up receiving them three weeks before the wedding which was slightly stressful, but in the end they were exactly what I had been envisaging. Alistair and the boys went to Neal and Palmer in London where they hired navy suits with light blue waistcoats.

What was your theme? Our theme seemed to change monthly throughout the planning process! We started off with the theme of rustic woodland, but I wouldn’t say we stuck to a strict theme as we didn’t want to restrict ourselves. Our colour theme ended up as blues and pinks and everything ended up working well together, although I wouldn’t say that was particularly planned in advance!
Describe your cake: Our cake was by Meadow Cottage Bakery, a company run by a lady in Hampshire who specialises in naked cakes. I found her through Instagram and loved her creations. For our wedding she made us a three tier naked cake covered in fresh fruit and flowers which matched my bouquet (my flowers were also stunning – a mixture of roses, peonies and sweet peas by White Lilac Flowers). The sponge tiers were flavoured carrot, lemon, and white chocolate and raspberry, and they were absolutely delicious. I made sure I remembered to try some on the day! something Blue? My something blue was the ribbon on my garter. I didn’t actually end up wearing it but I kept it with me in my handbag for luck.
What were the highlights? For both myself and Alistair it was the ceremony. The Great Hall at Loseley is stunning and it felt very special to have our ceremony there. Waiting to walk down the aisle and knowing everyone we love were in the room waiting for me was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life, but as soon as I saw Alistair waiting for me I was so happy that this moment we’d been waiting for was finally here. Of course, having all of our friends and family together was also a highlight. I also loved the speeches, it was so emotional to hear the words by my dad, Alistair and our best man, Joe. I also decided to make a speech! I wanted to say a few words from my perspective, to also thank our families, my amazing maid of honour (my sister) and two bridesmaids and my new husband. Although I was nervous I loved having the chance to say those words in front of everyone. . Your best buy? Probably my dress. For the quality and how much I loved it, it was surprisingly good value. How did it end? It ended as a fantastic party with our family and friends on the dance-floor! We had a Chic tribute band called Le Freak and we’d kept this as a surprise from the majority of our guests. The band was amazing and kept everyone dancing all night. We’d also hired a disco ball which we loved!
is there anything you wish you’d done differently? Not really! A good friend of mine told me to just go with the flow and enjoy it, even if something felt not quite right, and I kept this in mind throughout the day. It was particularly needed when we had a huge rain downpour in the middle of the day! In the end, it really didn’t matter and some of our favourite photos are of us laughing under an umbrella.
Where did you go on honeymoon? We decided to ‘mini-moon’ firstly and the day after the wedding we headed straight to St. Ives for a week. St. Ives is a special place to us which we normally visit once a year so it was lovely to relax somewhere familiar after the whirlwind of the wedding. We decided to take our main honeymoon later on to give us something to plan now that the wedding is over, and we are excited to be visiting Australia and Thailand in 2018.

How did you meet? We met at work
How did the proposal happen? We went away for a romantic weekend in a lovely hotel in Stratford Upon Avon. Sam proposed in the garden at sunset.
Where did the wedding take place? We got married at St. Andrew’s Church in Bedford, followed by a reception at The Sharnbrook Hotel in Sharnbrook.
What did the bride wear? I wore a beautiful dress, ‘Yolanda’ by Romantica. Donna from Rose’s Bridal in Bedford picked it out for me after trying on countless dresses I thought I’d like. It was nothing like the ones I’d been looking at but as soon as I tried it on I knew it was ‘the one’
What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? They wore bridesmaid dresses by D’Zage in cornflower blue.
What was your theme? Our theme was cornflower blue and pink. We went for a very classic style. 53

Describe your cake: We had a really simple cake as it was complemented by hundreds of Ferrero Rocher – our favourite chocolates! something Blue? Romantica embroider a blue rose inside all of their wedding dresses, and then we also had lots of blue around us all day!
What were the highlights? It’s so hard to pick out! The vicar’s sermon was amazing and matched our personalities amazingly well, the weather was beautiful, the dancefloor was full all night long. Your best buy? Ferrero Rocher!
How did it end? With a full dancefloor full of guests not wanting to go to bed!
is there anything you wish you’d done differently? Not a thing – the whole day was perfect from start to finish.
Where did you go on honeymoon? We had a mini-moon in Bournemouth – back to the first hotel Sam took me to. We’re looking forward to honeymooning in St. Lucia later this year.

Fiona and Sam were married on 8th September 2017 at Manathai Khao Lak in Thailand.

How did you meet?
We met in a local club in 2006, Sam approached me and we started chatting and straight away we really liked each other. He offered to make sure I got home in a taxi, he dropped me to my front door and we kissed, exchanged numbers and said we would meet up again. How did the proposal happen? We’re not particularly conventional and we tend to do things in a way which suits us. We had been together 1 month shy of 10 years when we got engaged. We spoke about getting married and we arranged a date to go shopping for a ring together in November 2016. Sam played a massive part in choosing the ring but I could tell him what I wanted. We went for a gorgeous meal and cocktails to celebrate afterwards.
Where did the wedding take place? The wedding took place on the gorgeous beach at Manathai Khao Lak in Thailand . What did the bride wear? I wore a wedding dress that had ivory lace over a very slight blush under layer. It was a fitted fishtail style with a sweet heart neckline and delicate lace straps; it had a very low sheer material back, with buttons running from the top of the neck down to the bottom of my back. The train was quite long with a scalloped lace edge finishing the hem off. What was your theme? We went for a mix of baby pink and cream flowers.
Describe your cake: We had a cake which was made by the chef at Manathai Khao Lak. It was chocolate sponge with a traditional white icing, we shared this with the hotel staff. You wore something new, but what about something borrowed and something blue? My seamstress who altered my dress stitched a beautiful blue ribbon on the inside of my dress for something blue. I borrowed an old Cornish Piskie from my mum for my something old and borrowed which I had tied to my bouquet.

wedding win-spring 2018.qxp_Layout 1 21/01/2018 16:58 Page 56
What were the highlights? Half an hour before we were due to get married the sun came out following a monsoon and there was a beautiful sunset so we were able to get married on the beach after all. Your best buy? My best buy was certainly my jewellery, £8 for my necklace and earrings.
How did the day end? We ended the day drinking cocktails and champagne with our new friends at the pool bar. When we got back to our room there were flowers everywhere, the hotel staff had decorated it beautifully. Filled the bath with warm water with gorgeous rose petals and decorated the bed with rose petals.
What did you do once the cake had been cut? We shared the cake with our friends and we wanted to give some to the staff for being so helpful! Did you take your honeymoon at ManatHai? Yes we stayed at Manathai for a further 5 days after we tied the knot. Would you return for a holiday? ABSOLUTELY!! Such a wonderful resort and the staff are fantastic. MANATHAI went above and beyond at every opportunity and made our wedding and honeymoon a completely unforgettable experience. Can you describe Khao lak and the beaches? Khao Lak is a beautiful place with just the right amount of everything happening. The beaches are out of this world, pristine white sand with beautiful trees and palms sat just off the beach line, paradise!!!
is there anything you wish you’d done differently? Getting married abroad was such a fantastic option; it took the stress away from a traditional UK wedding. I wouldn’t do a thing differently. My advice is make sure you have a good wedding planner at your wedding venue or hotel as this made such a difference, our wedding planner was second to none.
Did you go anywhere else on your honeymoon? As we got married in Thailand this combined as a wedding and honeymoon. We flew from London to Bangkok, spent two days there before flying to Phuket and travelling up to Khao Lak to stay for 12 days. We booked everything ourselves independently. We hired a moped in Khao Lak for 6 days and visited waterfalls, local markets, villages, beaches and restaurants. We spent a lot of time relaxing by the beach or pool, it was paradise.

Roxanne and Marco were married on 1st July 2017 at Hengrave Hall in Bury St Edmunds.
wedding win-spring 2018.qxp_Layout 1 21/01/2018 16:58 Page 59
How did you meet? At our friend’s (Matt & Patrizia Betts) wedding. Marco was a friend of the groom and I was a friend of the bride. First time I went on a date with Marco I told him that I wasn’t looking for a relationship - his charm won me over.
How did the proposal happen? We went away to Rome with two other couples one being Matt and Patrizia. They all knew what was going to happen except for me. On the first day we were so busy that at night I didn’t want to go out, but Marco and the others had other ideas – We went to a beautiful restaurant called Imago that over looked Rome and the rest is history!
Where did the wedding take place? The stunning Hengrave Hall in Bury St Edmunds Brownie points to Marco for finding this hidden gem.
What did the bride wear? My dress was from Ronald Joyce called Antonia. When I saw the name of this dress I knew it was the one, not only did it look beautiful, but the name meant so much more. My dad’s name is Antonio and my Nonna’s Antonietta both have passed away and thus it was like they were both there in spirit.

What did the rest of bridal party wear? Sophie my Maid of Honor wore a navy Ronald Joyce dress and Lianna and Olivia both wore sliver sparkly dresses. What was your theme? Our theme was sapphire blue and silver with a touch of sparkles. What girl doesn’t like bling? We got the theme from my engagement ring as I have a sapphire stone.
Describe your cake: I went to Love of Cupcakes with an idea and some flavours and she did the rest it was amazing! I wanted about six tiers and ended up with eight! Four of the tiers were dummy and the others were salted caramel, champagne and strawberry passion fruit and lemon and white chocolate and raspberry. something blue? My something blue was my ring and matching earrings
What were the highlights? It’s hard to say as everything was just so perfect, but if I had to choose I’d have to say our first dance, which started with a slow song, where we covered in confetti, that flowed into a fast song with everyone coming onto the dance floor. How did it end? I didn’t want it to end; I wanted it to go on all night. Marco and I retired to the bridal suite with a bottle of Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne and wedding cake and sat reminiscing about the whole day. is there anything you would do differently? No nothing it was absolutely perfect.
Where did you go on honeymoon? Maldives for 10 nights, the island we stayed on was called Niyama Private Islands and then we stopped in Dubai at the Jumeirah Mina A ‘Salam for 3 nights.

Soak away wedding stress at Adler Thermae Spa & Relax Resort
Y
our wedding promises to be joyous, fun, memorable and filled with love. Your wedding planning? At times very likely nerve-wracking, maddening, memorable—for the wrong reasons—and filled with anxiety. Your honeymoon needs to be the antithesis to all that prewedding stress. And a stay at Adler Thermae Spa & Relax Resort in Bagno Vignoni, Italy, is just the answer. Adler Thermae is set in Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia region, where rolling hills of grapevines and golden fields, interrupted by pointy cedar trees, antique hill towns and the occasional flock of fluffy sheep make for one swoon-worthy vista after another. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the region is known for its wine, cheese and olive oil. But it’s also rich in another natural resource—hot mineral water that bubbles up from beneath the Earth’s crust and has been coveted by spa seekers for millennia. The delightful little town of Bagno Vignoni even has a thermal pool (now off-limits to bathers) in place of its town square. The picturesque hill towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino are all just a short drive away, and Siena just a little further. Yet once you check in to Adler, you may forget entirely that there’s a world beyond it. With a restaurant, a clubby bar, a wine cellar, a winding circuit of saunas, steam rooms and pools, plus an extensive menu of spa treatments, there is plenty to idle away the time without setting foot off-
property. Yet should you decide to leave the sanctuary of your room and the spa, the resort has an extensive garden, walking and biking trails leading off in every direction, and a busy activities programme.
tranquil lodgings Adler’s restful, generously sized guestrooms allow loving couples to cocoon in sweet comfort. Keeping with the warm, modern feel of the rest of the property, they are fitted with light-coloured fabrics and blondewood furnishings, cushy king beds, minibars, satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. Chic bathrooms are built for two, with especially spacious walk-in, rainfall showers, benches, plenty of counter space and Adler’s own gorgeous, honey-perfumed bath products. Underfloor heating and cooling throughout keeps the wood floors cosy in winter and cool in summer. A spa kit of robe, towel and slippers is at the ready for each guest. All rooms have furnished patios or balconies, with views of the beautifully landscaped pool and garden area or that iconic Tuscan countryside. Fine dining Meals are served in a romantic, glass-roofed restaurant built in and around a central courtyard. The resort’s half-board programme includes breakfast and supper buffets; the former a healthy morning spread of fresh fruits and juices, cereals, yoghurts and homemade baked goods. In

pools, the spa area never felt crowded. Access to the saunas, steam rooms and pools is included with your stay.
Evening meals are a celebration of abundance, with a rich antipasto buffet of Italian charcuterie and cheeses, plus salads, canapes and again—that bread table. This is followed by first and second courses from a daily menu, after which guests can once again hit the buffet, this time for a plate (or two) of delicate, elaborate desserts.
Other couples’ treatments include the Brunello Ritual, which features dual massages with grapeseed oil, followed by a soak in a wine-infused whirlpool bath and a wine and cheese tasting. There are also Thai facials, body scrubs and anti-aging treatments, all made for two, or splurge on the That’s Amore package, consisting of five couples’ treatments and priced at €357 (about £315) per person. It’s guaranteed to make you forget all about those prewedding spats with your future mother-in-law, arguments with the caterer or fretting over where to seat your inappropriate uncle.
In case you don’t feel like eating entirely healthy on your honeymoon, there’s also chilled prosecco, made-to-order omelettes and decadent cream and chocolate-filled pastries.
Available for an extra fee, lunch is a slightly restrained version of supper. In late afternoons, a complimentary dessert and fresh fruit buffet is served in the bar.
A bliss-out spa Adler’s thermal and pool areas are among the most extensive and upscale in Tuscany. Built over one on Bagno Vignoni’s natural hot springs, pool water actually has to be cooled down to a soothing 36 C. The indoor pool connects (through an automatic glass door) to the sprawling outdoor one with waterfalls and jets, plus little alcoves for semi-private cuddling. There’s also an unheated pool with a countercurrent feature and a lap-swimming area. Indoors and out, an enchanting maze of saunas, steam rooms and relaxation rooms invite guests to lounge, linger and explore. Steam rooms use herbinfused vapors and in those and the resorts two Finnish saunas, built over a shallow travertine lake, stress and toxins sweat away, drop by blissful drop. The resort was completely full during our stay, but with so many different thermal chambers, lounges and ample
Sensuous couples’ treatments The spa offers a menu of treatments to pamper you from head to toe, including 14 treatments designed for couples. First among these is the Grotto Salina, a cavernous pool of warm salt water, where just the two of you float weightlessly in dark silence, with the only sound from the twin Etruscan chimera fountains that spout water into the pool. Another private experience is the Rasul room, where couples apply and scrub off curative mud, and then follow the exfoliation with an oil massage—sexy!
*Note that the attitude here is very European—that means bathrobes and slippers are de rigueur at breakfast and during daytime hours, while evenings are dressy casual. Bathing suits and undergarments are not permitted in saunas and steam rooms—you may opt to drape yourself with a towel, but your neighbours may or may not. Written by: Elizabeth Heath BOOK IT A honeymoon at Adler Thermae is not inexpensive, but it is a luxury experience from start to finish. While nightly rates are occasionally available, accommodation is usually offered for a 3-night minimum, and priced from €721 (about £637) per person, depending on the time of year. Weekly stays start at €1460 (about £1290) per person. (www.adler-thermae.com)

Marriage in the mountains:
Say ‘I Do’ at Mont Blanc Les Rives d’Argentière - the 5-star hamlet of chalets in Chamonix, MontBlanc - have just announced that they are now accepting bookings from wedding parties offering a breathtaking venue for those wishing to celebrate their nuptials amongst the Alps. With so many couples searching for memorable wedding venues, and more and more willing to travel to find that picture-perfect ‘instagramable’ destination, the five-star luxury ski resort in Chamonix Mont-Blanc is following suit with many of its American counterparts by offering its services to couples tying the knot. The location of the resort affords exceptional views of the Alps, of the world famous Mont Blanc mountain, and of the Argentière Glacier stunning examples of natural beauty that can act as the backdrop for the most magical wedding ceremony imaginable. Of course, the attraction of Les Rives d’Argentière goes well beyond the extraordinary scenery: it grants a truly unique experience. The bride and groom could express their love for winter sports as well as for each other by including skiing or snowboarding as part of the celebrations; they could be transported to and from the ceremony on a sledge drawn by huskies; they could even start their lives together with a thrill by paragliding from the mountain tops. Whether they choose to hire one of the four luxury chalets for more intimate weddings, or the entire hamlet, which can accommodate up to 50 guests, Les Rives d’Argentière accommodates and provides a top quality service to groups of any size. Parties with more than 50 guests will
easily find further accommodation in the surrounding hotels in Chamonix. Martin Bromley, general manager at Les Rives d’Argentière, says, “There is a definite growing trend in destination weddings and couples searching for venues that can provide the whole package - the unique setting, gourmet food and accommodation for all their guests. However, the majority of options abroad are centred around hotels or smaller villas in Europe that can only accommodate smaller groups. “The benefit of chalet hamlets such as Les Rives d’Argentière is not only that we can organise everything from transport and excursions to the wedding day itself with local suppliers, but that we host everything under one roof and can accommodate so many people, allowing couples to extend their nuptial celebrations with family and friends. For example, hen and stag parties can be held at the beginning of the week, the bride and groom’s family and friends can bond over a number of exciting excursions before the big day, dinners can be held together in an exclusive and intimate setting, and the on-site spa facilities enable everyone to unwind and allow guests to have holiday time before going back to reality. “An added bonus is that couples can choose to extend their stay with us for a few extra days once friends and relations have gone home. Adding a ‘mini-moon’ is the perfect way to reflect on all the happy memories and make the most of everything that Chamonix has to offer.” For more information or to enquire about weddings at Les Rives d’Argentière please visit www.lesrivesdargentiere.com/en/ events/weddings

Is This The World’s Most OTT
Proposal Package?
With private jet rides, Michelin-meals, and shopping sprees, no one could turn down a proposal at Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo Coming up with a romantic and memorable way to pop the question can be challenging, but the glamorous and exclusive Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo makes the start of a happily ever after easier than ever with their bespoke luxury engagement experience. First, the soon-to-be-engaged couple (trust me, a “yes” is practically guaranteed!) will get whisked off to the South of France via private jet, where an awaiting helicopter or limousine will escort them the rest of the way to the stunning Belle Époque property, Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo. This fivestar, historic gem was first built in 1886 and retains all the allure and lavishness of a bygone era; however, a contemporary restyling (partially designed by Karl Lagerfeld) brings in the exclusive, modern clientele. Once the couple have refreshed in the hotel’s Givenchy spa with a glass of champagne, it’s time for the glam squad to work their magic: A personal shopper treats them to a shopping spree and world-renowned stylist, Rossano Ferretti (whose clients include Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Middleton, and Reese Witherspoon) heads up the hair makeovers. Looking fabulous, the couple arrives in style at the hotel’s Carré d’Or suite, where the 110 square-meter terrace with glittery views over the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo and the Mediterranean Sea, will be covered in no less than 1,000 candles and countless rose petals. A personal butler serves an unforgettable, Mediterranean-accented meal by the twoMichelin-starred chef, Joël Robuchon (who heads spearheads three restaurants within the hotel). The pair will also be poured bubbly or fine wine of the same vintage as their first date! Once thoroughly wined, dined, and wooed, the big question will either fly overhead on the banner of a plane (!) or be projected below on the floor of the pool below your terrace. And honestly—who in their right mind could say no? As if that wasn’t enough, the celebration continues into the next day where the blissed-out duo will take a flight over the nearby mountain peaks, stopping to have a romantic picnic like no other. This getaway is guaranteed to leave you even more in love. Written by nicole trilivas

Game of Thrones Inspired Weddings at
Langley Castle
L
angley Castle, the only medieval fortified castle hotel in England, has a compelling proposal for brides and grooms seeking a breathtaking wedding day - Game of Thrones inspired weddings. The Northumberland-based hotel, is weaving its 667 years of history into its wedding offering to provide what is believed to be the first Game of Thrones based wedding experience in the UK, if not the world. To inspire brides and grooms, Langley has created a portfolio of stunning imagery in conjunction with talented photographer, Sean Elliott, highlighting the possibilities available at the authentic castle. The photography highlights exactly where Game of Thrones-style backdrops can be found at Langley, whether that be on the battlements, in the gardens and woodland, in the ancient arched doorways, on the window seats set into its sevenfoot-thick walls, or in its amazing medieval drawing room, complete with ancient leaded windows, dramatic and sweeping velvet curtains, chandeliers and knights in shining armour. Here, the couple will also be able to sit regally on ‘throne’ chairs as they take their vows, perhaps incorporating into these the line from the TV drama, “I am hers and she is mine. From this day until the end of my days.”

Langley has also put together suggestions of what a couple may wish to have within their Northern Kingdom wedding package. This includes delivery of the wedding ring by hawk, dramatic dragon-themed wedding cakes, arrival on horseback and candles dancing on a medieval themed banqueting table. A brochure has been produced to guide couples through the process and offer a few prompts, but the wedding day will be truly bespoke. Whilst the suggested attire will be a medieval maiden dress, with or without faux fur shrug, and a warrior costume for grooms, perhaps complete with sword, how couples choose to bring their dream wedding alive will be very much down to them. Their wishes will be taken on board by the Langley wedding planning team and brought to life before their guests’ eyes. Couples will be able to select their own dishes or choose from a specially created Game of Thrones inspired menu, devised by Langley’s head chef, Mark Percival, a former North East Chef of the Year. This menu features dishes such as Mother of Dragons Spicy Chicken Wings as a starter and Wildlings Wild Mushroom Tartlet and Theons Devilled Sausages for mains, complete with side dishes including Jon Snow peas and the Red Woman’s beetroot and walnut salad. The meal can even be completed with ‘The Wall’ – a tower of profiteroles. Whilst authenticity is delivered by virtue of Langley’s status as the only medieval fortified castle hotel in England, and owner of probably the best example of medieval garderobes (ancient loos) in Europe, these weddings will also take place in Langley-on-Tyne, just a short distance from Hadrian’s Wall. This is the UNESCO World Heritage site landmark that inspired ‘The Wall’ in Game of Thrones. In fact, it is said that stones from Hadrian’s Wall were used to construct the fortified castle. The good news for those not getting married is that Langley can be hired on an exclusive-use basis, for anyone wishing to have a Game of Thronesinspired stay with family or friends, and corporate events, including bushcraft and firelighting, can also be arranged.
More details are at www.langleycastle.com and throne calls can be taken on 01434 688888.
