Bridal Hair Trends for 2020 Kim Sandford Hairdresser takes a look at bridal hair trends for the coming year, with little tips to help you achieve the look of your dreams.
1: Soft romantic buns are a firm favourite for 2020. Take a look at different styles of veils to compliment the style, this one by sash and veil, is a draped veil which is perfect to showcase your hairstyle.
2: We’re going to see a lot of soft twists, flowing relaxed buns this year, remember the colour of your hair can have a huge effect on the overall look, a few sun kissed highlights a couple of weeks before the big day can really show off the texture.
3: It’s great being outside on your wedding day there’s so many stunning venues with beautiful grounds, your hair is the last thing you want to worry about. So a few well placed strands pinned back can give you the down look you like with a bit of control, perfect for the relaxed bohemian vibe. Hair by Kim Sandford Hairdressing Photos by Nikkis Moments

Eternal Love
‘Swan Lake’ is known as one of the most famous and timeless love stories of all time, a masterpiece that celebrates love, sacrifice and romance. The ‘Eternal Love’ style shoot takes inspiration from this famous ballet, recreating the core themes through the lens of couture bridal style and creative expression.
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:33 Page 32
s Swan Lake premiered in the late 19th century, the style shoot takes place in a stunning venue adorned with French designer antiques from the time periods of 17th to 19th century. Each shot is framed with prestigious French embellished antique pieces created for the monarchs and royal court.
A
The professionally trained ballerina dances her way through the shoot in a number of feathered gowns by Alin Le’ Kal. Feathered gowns are one of the biggest upcoming bridal trends for the year and year sto come. The shoot features three gowns shipped straight from Paris Fashion Week from Alin Le’ Kal’s Spring/Summer 19 collection. Each gown celebrates a different persona, from an elegant and sophisticated silk gown with feathered top, a dark and bold feathered short dress, to the final white lavish feathered ball gown that is grand enough to fill an entire room.
The luxurious themes of feathers, pearls and gold were embraced throughout the shoot. Asides from the gowns being feathered masterpieces and the graceful pearled veil, the make-up artist brought the art of feathers and pearls to the make-up looks, gluing black feathers to the eyes for the black swan look and stick-on pearls to the eyes for the white swan look. Matching with the golden antiques, the wedding cake and desserts reflected the theme to perfection with tempered white chocolate resembling feathers and brushes of lustrous gold. The subtlety of the feathered theme continues through the floral arrangements with the use of the ever-trending pampas grass and contrasting grey feathered designs on modern clear acrylic wedding stationery. At the centre of it all, the bride was dazzled from head to toe with luxurious bejewelled crowns, diamond jewellery, and glistening heels.

Victorian Dream
This inspirational bridal style shoot was inspired by the classic ‘Picnic at the Hanging Rock’ based in the 1900s. Titled ‘Victorian Dream’ the dreamy shoot was captured at the 1900s heritage-listed Rippon Lea Estate. The couple celebrates their special day in the breathtaking mansion and gardens, followed by a romantic picnic by the lake.

is bridal theme features romantic sheer and flowy gowns with high necks and bishop sleeves. As for the groom, he is dressed in preppy vintage suits and chinos. In the shoot, the gorgeous bride is dressed in a designer gown by Jason Grech for the indoor scenes, and changes to a flowy angel wing gown by L’ETO Bridal as she explores the estate’s gardens. The groom matches the mood with a rich green tartan bow tie and blazer with classic beige and changes to a preppy maroon vest and custom pinstriped jacket for the outdoors.
T
As for the bridal beauty style, this wedding theme celebrates the natural, soft and innocent look, embracing rosey and peach tones. To match this feminine look, the bride’s hair is styled with a lush black velvet bow, and for her outdoor picnic look, she wears a graceful fishtail updo, with baby breath weaved in.

The Greatest Show Susie and Barry got married on 11th May 2019 at Wookey Hole in Somerset
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:35 Page 47
How did you meet? We both used to work for Hanson Brick, I was then an Events Manager and Baz was a Works Manager. I had to organise an event at his works in Dover, Kent, and we met then.
How did the proposal happen? This was truly special, so Baz had organised for our children to go to their Aunties in Somerset and put together with my Niece and Nephew a show of “this is your life”. All 4 children acted me out from very young, through my teenage years and then to the present day. At that point Baz got called up and then he called me up and got on one knee…. Very emotional he managed to get few words out ! What did the bride wear? A very boobie wedding dress.
What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? Charcoal grey dresses for the bridesmaids and Grey 3 piece suits for the groomsmen. What was your theme? We themed it around The Greatest Showman, in other words a circus theme which was such fun. Describe your cake We didn’t have a traditional cake as such, we had cupcakes instead. Something Blue? A garter.
What were the highlights? Wow, so many, the Cave where the actual wedding took place, was so tranquil, then there was the Witch, the Little Man, the Drag Queen, the Circus, the Tattooist, the Band, just everything - I think one of my favourite moments was when we walked in the wedding breakfast room to “This is me” playing full blast and all the entertainers were dancing and doing their thing, looking around the room full of all the people we love dancing and singing and thinking ‘what the hell is going on, are we really at a wedding?’
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:35 Page 48
Your best buy? Not sure I have one, I actually arranged most of it myself and made everything I could as we were so far away from the venue and you only hire the room so I filled it with all the bits I wanted. How did it end? Messy Ha Ha! Around 2:30am back in the hotel bar. Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? No, nothing at all. Where did you go on honeymoon? Dubai.

Shelley and Jim were married on 20th December 2019 at The Barns Hotel, Bedford
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:35 Page 51
How did you meet? Our families have been friends for many years living just 4 doors away from each other. Our paths crossed many times but it obviously wasn’t the right time romantically until New Year’s Eve 2012 where we met at Jim’s Dads house 4 doors away from Shelley’s mums house. Shelley had been out partying with her Mum and friends and we knocked to say Happy New Year and were invited in for a drink. Jim had just returned earlier in the year from a trip in Australia. Jim and Shelley got talking and dancing and the rest is history as they say.
How did the proposal happen? Jim proposed on Christmas Day 2016. He woke me with loud music playing Bruno Mars ‘Marry You’. My hair was a big ball of mess and he got down on one knee beside the bed and asked me to be his wife. It was a huge surprise! Jim said if he had booked for us to go out etc I would have guessed his plans and this much is true.
Where did the wedding take place? We had the whole day at The Barns Hotel, Bedford. We had the most amazing day at this incredible venue. What did the bride wear? An Ivory A line, vintage lace dress from Wed2b, veil with crystals,
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:35 Page 52
winter hair comb and stunningly sparkly blush shoes. My bouquet oozed Christmas.
What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? The bridesmaids wore rose gold sparkly long sleeve dresses from ASOS with an addition of a rose gold belt. Gypsophila flower head crowns and a matching bouquet. The groomsmen and pageboys were in three-piece dark grey tails suit with matching rose gold ties and buttonholes. What was your theme? Rose gold, Vintage, Bohemian with a little bit of Christmas sparkle.
Describe your cake. My cake was made by my Made of Honour Suzi from Suzi’s Novelty Kids Cakes. She’s a self-taught baker who created this small business from a hobby that got out of hand. It was two tiers with buttercream, rose gold and white with a stunning rose gold topper from Top it all displayed inside a rustic stand with hoop. Something Blue? My seamstress covered this for me sewing a beautiful blue bow inside my dress. My something borrowed was my father’s St Christopher which I attached to my bouquet, he passed away when I was a little girl so my mum walked me down the aisle. What were the highlights? The whole day was amazing but some of my highlights were my three sons seeing me in my dress for the first time. The weather was far from ideal but as soon as I walked into the manor suite at The Barns Hotel to reveal my dress the sun shone so bright.
Your best buy? My shoes blush pink and sparkly from Quiz a bargain at £30. So comfortable and I added a rose gold vinyl saying ‘I DO’ to the bottom of them. How did it end? We enjoyed sparklers outside the barn it was amazing.
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? I can’t think of anything I would have done differently. Every penny spent was worth it from the Harpist to the most delicious food served at the hotel. Where did you go on honeymoon? We have a family-moon to Lanzarote to look forward to in April and a Honeymoon to Athens and Santorini in June.

How did you meet? John and I met through mutual friends in a nightclub in Glasgow . How did the proposal happen? Our first big holiday as a couple was in Dubai where John bought me a beautiful ring. We revisited Dubai a few years later, along with our two boys, and John decided he would propose in front of our kids on the hotel balcony. He used the ring he had bought previously which I thought I had misplaced. I asked our eldest boy to take a picture of myself and John and when I went to see the picture – which was a little blurry – I asked him to take another. When I turned back, John was on one knee. I initially thought John had taken ill and fell to the floor, I was in such disbelief. He then asked me to marry him!
When I saw it was my ring he was proposing with, I was over the moon as it had been missing for six months previously as John had hid it. My initial reaction was complete relief before I said yes. The following day, John and I went to Cara Jewellers in Dubai, where I picked my own engagement ring. It was magical. Where did the wedding take place? Trump Turnberry, Ayrshire, Scotland
What did you wear? Galia Lahav dress, from Browns Bride in London. I had previously visited a few other stores and tried a few but as soon as I put my dress on, I just burst out crying, as did my mum – it was my dream dress. I was lucky enough to get measured and fitted by the designer, Sharon, from Galia Lahav, that day as I picked my dress on the day they hosted a trunk show at Browns Bride. What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? The rest of the bridal party wore ivory dresses from the Australian brand, Portia & Scarlett.
What was your theme? My dress pinned the overall theme of the day – fairy-tale romance. I showed my event designer, Jordan Patrick from Jordana Events, the dress and we set the theme on décor from there. Jordana had bespoke table linen made which had beautiful flowers on it tying in with my dress. I wanted the ballroom at Turnberry to be warm and inviting and Jordana’s detail was second-to-none.
Describe your cake My cake was designed by a lovely lady named Brogan at Three Tiers and Tea,
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:36 Page 56
Glasgow. She decided to hang flowers on it which exactly matched my dress.
The cake had seven tiers and featured my husband and I’s initials in gold writing to compliment the surrounding décor. We decided to let our eldest son pick the flavours for the cake so he had a little input on the day. Something Blue? My shoes came in a blue dust bag as they were part of the Jimmy Choo wedding range. What were the highlights? I would definitely recommend Turnberry – the venue was the one of our key highlights. The hotel is my favourite place – I wish we lived closer to Scotland to return as often as possible as the views, the location, the food and everything was just perfect.
I don’t have one fault and the staff are all lovely. I still have friends who talk about the food on our wedding day saying it was the best food they’ve ever tasted – they also have a new-found love for haggis. The Donald Trump Ballroom is a real fairytale room – it’s breathtaking.
Your best buy? Our band, The Function Band made the wedding party through-out the whole day and night. It was a great investment.
How did it end? I was born on the 5th November so I’m a big lover of fireworks. We had an amazing firework display hosted by 21cc. The display they arranged was phenomenal, I’ve never saw anything like it. Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? Nothing I wish I could just do it all over again.
Where did you go on honeymoon? We had eight days alone in the Maldives. We stayed at the One&Only Reethi Rah – it was the nicest place I’ve ever been. I cried when I arrived and cried when I left.

PARADISE FOUND
Emma and Steven were married on 5th April 2019 at Cap Maison, St Lucia
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:36 Page 59
How did you meet? We met over 4th of July weekend 2014 in Long Beach Island, NJ. I was attending a girl's weekend and Steven was hosting a guys' weekend. We met at the beach and spent a weekend together. We left LBI and continued to think about one another but neither of us made a move to contact the other. Then we ran into each other at a train station in Darien, a few months later and soon after we went on our first proper date. I was impressed when Steven took me out to 456 Shanghai in Chinatown for great dumplings.
How did the proposal happen? The proposal happened in New York City outside the restaurant Da Umberto on 17th street off of 6th Avenue. We were walking from our apartment just a few blocks away to go to dinner with our parents. I wasn’t aware that Steven had picked up the ring an hour earlier and before walking into the restaurant he proposed.
Where did the wedding take place? The wedding took place at Cap Maison in St. Lucia. We chose to have a destination wedding as we wanted a place we could take over to just celebrate with our guests. We also wanted somewhere that felt authentic to the location. Cap Maison in St Lucia was perfect. In addition to the wedding we hosted a local beach bonfire and local BBQ in the nearby town.
What did the bride wear? Bespoke ‘Juliette’ gown by Samuelle Couture bought at Spina Bridal in NYC. The dress was a lavender gown, hand draped silk organza layers with hand cut placed lace. What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? We chose not to have bridal parties
What was your theme? Beach formal with a modern and colourful design!
Describe your cake A St. Lucian wedding cake Profiterole Two Tier Cake with Passion Fruit filling.
Something Blue? Steven’s sister shared a pin with charms and a locket with a photo of Steven along with a blue ribbon That I pinned into my dress.
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:36 Page 60
What were the highlights? Our personal highlight was seeing all of the people we love together at breakfast meeting each other and catching up. There were many wedding highlights including: Pool floats in each of the private pools, a bonfire opening night of the wedding with friends and family toasts on the beach, a kayak race challenge, a local street party BBQ and dance party at a local reggae bar, a scavenger hunt custom made by the Cap Maison team, rum tastings with friends in the Maison cellar, dinner on Rock Maison for family that included a private drinks zip line, a lantern releases at the end of the wedding night and last but not least, our dog Oliver there for the entire experience! Your best buy? Our wedding planner!
How did it end? We ended the night with many friends jumping in the pool with ice cream and treats for our guests
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? I would have been pickier about my hair and make up and Steven would have gotten a spray tan to look like he was as tanned as me (Ha Ha!) Where did you go on honeymoon? New Zealand & Australia

Nowhere is as near to paradise as The Maldives, a honeymooners dream destination. We visited the luxurious OZEN by Atmosphere at Maadhoo to indulge in their INDULGENCE Plan. Our verdict, we wanted to stay forever,

he Maldives, the one place that reality is just as exquisite as the fantasy. The sand really is white and powdery and the sea really is the colour of emeralds, there is a magic that embraces you and doesn’t let go until you leave, a destination of envy, a place where most people dream of visiting and the top destination of choice for a honeymoon.
Set amidst the exotic turquoise hues of South Male Atoll lies the luxury island resort of OZEN by Atmosphere at Maadhoo. It is the first ‘luxury all inclusive’ in the Maldives thanks to its ‘INDULGENCE Plan’ which covers all dining, drinks (including award-winning champagnes/wines), accommodation and non-motorized water sports, meaning you can just sit back, relax and indulge in as little or as much as you like from the moment you step off the speedboat onto the jetty you know you’ve arrived in paradise. Smiling staff greet you with a chilled glass of champagne, drape your neck in a flower garland and welcome you like you’re an ‘A’ List celebrity arriving for a premiere on the red carpet.
The resort villas are spread across two separate islands that join together via a wooden jetty, with spectacular views of the surrounding lagoon and ocean, no matter how many times you cross your heart still skips a beat at the sheer unadulterated luxury that’s all around. Accommodation comprises of 90 luxurious stand-alone villas, each utilising a natural aesthetic to effortlessly blend with the surrounding landscape. Forty-one beach-front ‘Earth’ villas line the coastline of the main island, whilst an additional 49 over-water ‘Wind’ villas sit directly over the lagoon, with glass flooring unveiling the underwater world below.
On a previous visit to The Maldives we’d stayed in an Overwater Villa, so this time we thought we’d stay on dry land in an Earth Villa, half hidden within the resort’s tropical foliage and leading directly onto the soft white sandy beach, complete with its own private infinity pool, and outdoor bathroom, I wasn’t sure we’d even make it to the beach! But of course, we did on many occasions whether it was to sip champagne as we watched the sunset, snorkel in the crystal-clear water, or just lie on our sunbeds, enjoying the calm tranquil surroundings as we listened to the soft lapping of the waves around us. The inside of our villa was just as captivating, a large spacious room with high beamed ceilings, warm earthy tones that complement the white luxurious décor effortlessly, a mini-bar to indulge in champagne, wine, soft drinks, and nibbles whatever you fancy, whatever you drink, it is replaced as part of the ‘INDULGENCE Plan’ You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to dining, there are six restaurants as well as options for private dining and beach BBQs.
The main restaurant Palms has stunning ocean views (as if you need a reason to linger over the delicious food). The fresh vibrant interiors and

high ceiling are the perfect backdrop for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a huge range of international cuisine, live cooking stations, and so much choice, you really are able to ‘indulge’ to your hearts content.
paradise, M6m (Minus Six Metres Underwater), the chance to truly immerse yourself in life beneath the sea and enjoy exceptional seafood dishes.
RAW is a fresh sushi bar and there are two fine dining establishments The Traditions, Peking takes you on a culinary journey showcasing authentic Chinese dishes and The Traditions, IndoCeylon, goes back to the roots of South Asian, Sri Lankan, Indian and Maldivian cuisine. Offering delightful dishes with fantastic presentation, and an array of textures and tastes to tease your taste buds, if you only try one dish from here make sure it’s the Crab Lagoon Curry, a real Maldivian treat.
Food is exceptional, as is the service, choose between two menus (both 5 courses) accompanied with wine flights and you’re in for the
You can also choose to chill poolside at the Joie de Vivre pool bar, which has stunning sunset views, serves cocktails and pizzas and has its very own Gin Bar, aptly named ‘Gin Is In’. Again, all drinks from the gin bar are included in the ‘INDULGENCE Plan’ and you’re certainly spoilt for choice with more than 25 top brand gins to choose from.
Dining at any of these restaurants really is a divine journey of fresh flavoursome food, a culinary delight that will have you thinking about your next meal before you’ve even finished the one you’re eating. And then there’s the Jewel in the Crown, a definite tick off the bucket list, the one restaurant that just adds to your honeymoon in
Make your way down the winding staircase (don’t worry there’s a lift if you’re feeling less that energetic when you leave) and enter a jaw-dropping underwater world, windows all around have you looking out into the clear turquoise waters, where manta rays, sharks, little, medium and big fish in a rainbow of colours float in front of your eyes as you do little else than marvel at the magic of this underwater world.

most romantic, fine dining experience, you’ll ever experience, a memory that will that will last a lifetime. The food boasts dishes such as prosciutto-wrapped tiger prawns, butterpoached lobster, Chilean sea bass and for dessert well it has to be a chocolate dome with melting hazelnut fudge, a sumptuous delight of the freshest seafood we have ever tasted and as for the chocolate bomb, a sweet tooth indulgence that literally melts in the mouth. The ‘INDULGENCE Plan’ allows guests one Fine Dining Experience per stay in this breathtaking restaurant.
The ‘INDULGENCE Plan’ isn’t just about t food and drink, there’s also an array of activities, whether it’s a serene canoe trip to enjoy spectacular views of the island from sea, or something a little more adventurous like windsurfing or paddle boarding, the choice is yours. There is of course unlimited snorkeling around the resort and twice daily excursions to breathtaking snorkeling sites nearby. A sunset fishing excursion lets you catch fish and watch the sun slowly set on the horizon, you never tire of a Maldivian sunset, each one is as breathtaking as the last. If you just want to chill, the ELENA spa is the place to go, each treatment room is a tranquil haven with a picture-perfect view of crystal clear waters with each bed looking down onto the soft white sand, can you think of anywhere more perfect to be pampered?
And then before you know it, it’s over, it’s time to leave this impossibly picturesque island with its lush green foliage, white sandy beaches, and perfect turquoise waters, it’s hard to do justice to somewhere as beautiful as this, it really is a dream come true, you’re very own paradise island and the only question you’ll have is “when can we come back?” BOOK IT

A TALE OF TWO CITIES enice, known to be one of the most romantic cities in the world, the perfect destination for a European honeymoon, the fervour of love is around every corner, and no matter how many times you visit it always takes your breath away.
V
Approximately 60 kilometres (37 miles) west of Venice is Vicenza, a thriving and cosmopolitan city, rich in history and culture, with many museums, art galleries, piazzas, villas, and churches, the perfect yin to Venice’s yang.
Combine both these cities together for a romantic getaway and you have the best of both worlds, the tranquillity of Vicenza to the vibrancy of Venice, leaving you with the only question, what one to visit first?
For us first stop was Vicenza and Villa Michelangelo Vicenza – Starhotels Collezione, a heavenly retreat in the Berci Hills. Designed in the Palladian style it was built in the 18th century as the country house of the aristocratic Tomi family of Vicenza. In its latest incarnation, the villa is an elegant getaway for those in search of tranquillity and relaxation away from everyday life.
The hotel boasts rustic-elegant interiors throughout, think beamed ceilings, polished Venetian floors, marble-clad bathrooms, and ample home-from-home comforts. The 52 rooms and suites are an authentic Italian dream, antique furniture and exquisite accessories compliment the high ceiling rooms timelessly, and the uninterrupted views whether you have a window or balcony are simply breathtaking, a perfect honeymoon retreat. Italy is renowned for its exceptional food, and Hotel Villa Michelangelo certainly keeps that reputation alive. The hotel’s restaurant La Loggia boasts large refined rooms with fireplaces, marble floors and floor to ceiling windows, allowing you once again to lose yourself in the stunning scenery, in summertime there’s also a beautiful terrace where you can enjoy al fresco dining at its best.
From breakfast through to dinner and everything in-between the food is exquisite. Begin your day with an American-style buffet breakfast, there’s so much choice, you really won’t go hungry. Dinner is a foodie’s heaven, the menu offers creative contemporary dishes inspired by traditional recipes, the Scrigni pasta filled with pigeon ragout, zucchini flowers and crisp parmesan cheese, was an explosion of mouth-watering flavours, the pasta was just divine as was the lavender flavoured turbot fillet served with violet potato flan and olives, accompanied with wines that have been carefully chosen to pair with the dishes effortlessly, a meal here really is an Italian culinary dream.
The tranquil setting allows for you to do as little or as much as you want. Lie around the secluded pool, sipping cocktails, enjoying the summer sunshine (the pool has a retractable cover so even if it rains it can still be used), breathing in yet more of the spectacular views this hotel allows, or if you’re feeling a little more energetic take a romantic stroll around the five hectares of grounds, get back to nature amongst the ancient trees, olive grove and dense forest and cocoon yourself in a bubble of love.
Hotel Villa Michelangelo is the ideal base for exploring Vicenza and its historic surroundings, whether you visit a museum, art gallery or one of the many Palladian-style villas where frescos adorn the walls and ceilings and have you wondering many times ‘if only walls could talk!’ The Teatro Olimpico (Olympic Theatre) is an absolute must. Designed by Palladio in 1580, it is said to be the oldest covered theatre in existence. It has an absolutely extraordinary interior: elliptical in shape, the statues, seating and onstage scenery that realistically gives the appearance of long streets receding to a

distant horizon all remain unchanged from the 16th century. It really is breath-taking.
Once you’ve soaked up all the history and culture in Vicenza it’s time for part two of your getaway – Venice.
bevelled Venetian mirrors added an opulent feel to the space.
Arriving by water taxi ( a great way to travel) our home whilst in Venice was the Splendid Venice Venezia – Starhotels Collezione in the very heart of the city nestled between picturesque canals and designer boutiques and just a stone’s throw from St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge.
Luxury continued into the bathroom, with luxury products and marble surrounds. The outside balcony was an added bonus, with its own table and chairs, for you to watch the gondolas float by on the canal below. The hotel’s restaurant, Le Maschere boasts many Venetian classics it’s easy to see why it’s a favourite amongst locals. Featuring a retractable glass roof means it’s bright and airy and the perfect place for summertime al fresco dining or late-night star gazing.
The pièce de résistance of the hotel though is its multi-level rooftop terrace, looking right at the Venice Bell Tower and never-ending skyline, it really is 'splendid' the perfect spot to enjoy an evening aperitif, and drink in the romance of Venice.
There is so much to see and do in Venice, you’re spoilt for choice, of course you have to embark on a romantic gondola ride, (no honeymoon would be complete without one) but if you wanted to go that little extra you can learn to be a gondolier yourself, just ask the hotel to arrange it for you.
Venice never loses its capacity to enchant, whether you’re visiting for the first or hundredth time, it still remains heart-stoppingly surreal.
The lounge and bar area have large arched windows overlooking the canal, and luxurious contemporary décor that includes intricate chairs and comfy sofas draped in rich velvet fabrics, Murano glass chandeliers hang from the ceiling giving off an atmosphere of quiet contemplation, creating an intimate ambience to relax in. The ideal spot to sip champagne and watch the romance of the city glide by.
From the superior rooms to the Presidential suite, each room, of which there are 165 in total, has a unique style fusing contemporary and luxury design. Our room, was a calming palette of light wood, with silver and lilac accents, damask textured wallpaper that evoked images of grandeur and
The mixed fried fish and crunchy vegetables makes a great choice, along with the fettuccini pasta with scampi and fresh seasonal vegetables or sea food spaghetti with fresh clams, nothing disappoints it’s all freshly prepared and is a real treat to the taste buds, full of fresh seasonal flavours, you can almost taste the culinary passion in each mouthful.
A guided walking tour is a great way to see all the main sights including the most renowned and famous building in Venice, St. Mark’s Basilica a sublime piece of architecture that has stood the test of time since its creation in 1092, and to this day still remains one of the most important religious buildings in Northern Italy.
winter2020.qxp_Layout 1 02/03/2020 21:38 Page 74
The Rialto Bridge, spans the impressive Grand Canal, and is undoubtedly the most famous and iconic bridge in Venice, connecting the San Marco and San Polo districts, the bridge is also an all-important pedestrian thoroughfare, surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants.
Just next to the Rialto Bridge is AMO, an elegant Venetian restaurant located in the ground- floor atrium of the newly renovated T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS, Venice’s first luxury lifestyle department store. Lunch here is a real treat, take your time, savour the flavours - who knew pizza could be baked, steamed and fried – believe me it’s delicious! Vegetable tartare with crispy black rice focaccia, sea bass carpaccio with green pepper and raw hand-chopped beef with a light wood-smoked sauce are other dishes that you really need to try. And when this dining delight has finished, make your way to the rooftop for the most amazing 360-degree views. Whilst St. Mark’s Basilica is the most famous building in Venice, St Mark’s Square is the most famous piazza. Surrounding the square is a series of ornate buildings with arched walkways that frame it perfectly, a must stop for espresso and cake (although it’s expensive, it has to be done) or as it’s your honeymoon why not enjoy a romantic meal at Quadri, an 18th-century café, bistro and fine dining restaurant directly in the square. Having recently reopened after a major restoration, it oozes magic and romance, an indulgent place to enjoy traditional Italian and Venetian dishes, with fresh fish arriving daily from the Rialto market, the sumptuous surroundings allow you to not only drink the wine but also drink in the atmosphere of St Mark’s Square at night. Venice and Vicenza two completely different cities, both as romantic as each other, the ideal split between tourist and tranquil just perfect for creating memories to last a lifetime.

Served in The Phoenix fine dining restaurant, a jewel in the hotels crown, large ornate windows, and colonial carved columns take centre stage around the room, with glistening chandeliers and ornate plaster mouldings bringing the room together to create a space of sophisticated charm.

In 1979 the property began its transformation into the world-class restaurant and hotel that it is today. Proposal Package at Cap Maison in St Lucia Luxury boutique hotel Cap Maison in St Lucia is launching a special holiday for guests planning to propose to their other halves. The package is launched ahead of the 2020 Leap Year, in anticipation that some women may be planning to propose to their partners.
Working discretely behind the scenes, Cap Maison has a proposal concierge that helps guests plan the perfect setting to pop the question, with options including a romantic private dinner on Rock Maison, an ocean dining deck, or the summit of the iconic Pitons Mountains. With candle lit lanterns lighting the night sky and the sounds of the waves, there are few places in the world which rival the unique and romantic setting of Rock Maison. Surrounded by the ocean and complete with a champagne zip line from the bar above that can deliver the engagement ring, Rock Maison makes the perfect proposal spot.
Alternatively, for those more active couples, a guest can choose to climb St Lucia’s volcanic Pitons Mountains (a UNESCO World Heritage site) with their loved one and pop the question at the summit. Sitting 2,619 feet above sea level, it offers breath taking views across the island.
The service doesn't stop there, the proposal concierge will also arrange for a photographer to take a photo of the lucky couple, which can be used to create a ‘Just Engaged’ digital postcard that can be sent to friends and families to announce their news.
For traditionalists, the new holiday comes in time for the leap year tradition, when, on 29th February, a woman is allowed to propose to her partner. The tradition is thought to date back to the 5th century, when, legend has it, an Irish nun called St Bridget complained to St Patrick that women had to wait too long for their suitors to propose, so they struck a deal. St Patrick decreed the 29th February as the one day in every four years when women can propose. Cap Maison’s Proposal Package, includes: • Four nights in the signature Oceanview Villa Suite with private pool • Proposal concierge to liaise with the guest on arrangements and personalising the experience • Photographer to take a ‘Just Engaged’ photo that can be put on a digital postcard to send to friends and families • Scenic helicopter transfer upon arrival, offering a quick arrival at Cap Maison and aerial views of the island and Piton Mountains • Daily breakfast and dinner daily at the acclaimed Cliff at Cap, under the direction of Executive Chef Craig Jones • Upgrade to higher room category • Complimentary bottle of Champagne in room upon arrival • *Return ground transfer to airport upon departure
Rates for the Proposal package start from US$4,666 per couple in an Ocean view villa with private pool for four nights including VAT at 20% and is inclusive of all the services listed. To book or for more information, visit www.capmaison.com
