Beach Blues
A nautical palette of blues and whites were the inspiration behind this beach themed shoot. The blues of the sea and the white of the sand created the perfect backdrop to create the look.
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:28 Page 32
ou’re invited to s t e p onto the beach for a nautical inspired theme. Taking inspiration from the beach itself using coastal colours of blues and whites this shoot took place at Thorpeness Country Club on their private beach.
Y
The main colour influences were from the beach itself, with a little watercolour and Ombre patterns enhancing the look.
The dress captured the essence of the sea with the movement of the skirt, and the sea breeze delicately catching the petals of the bouquet, bringing the whole shoot to life. The vintage skirt was hand painted by Bex Brides, to reflect the colours and textures of waves using a special air brushing and dip–dyeing technique creating Ombre effects and turning it into a tulle of loveliness.

Outdoor Trends
More than ever, couples are seeking creative ways to take their wedding celebrations outdoors. With new trends and inspirations for using the great outdoors as a versatile and customisable venue – a blank canvas that can be dressed to suit any style or scale of event.
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:28 Page 36
As the warmer weather approaches and wedding season gets underway, LPM Bohemia reveal the five biggest trends and influences shaping outdoor weddings and events this year:
Celebrating British Craftsmanship
“Milestone events and weddings in particular, are often a celebration of heritage and traditions – both old and new – and as a nation we’re shifting our focus towards local, home-grown businesses to help capture that essence. There’s a wealth of innovative makers and producers across the country, and this celebration of British craftsmanship is transcending the chosen venue to the native flowers that dress it and the seasonal menu served on the day. Our British made tent designs are steeped in history and represent the revival of a lost art with a timeless aesthetic. We’re seeing a growing trend towards highly decorated, wooden-framed structures reminiscent of period ages, complemented by modern interiors.”
Introducing the Canvas Palladio
“Palladianism is having a revival; so much so that it has inspired an exquisite new structure for 2019. Designed for intimate receptions, the Palladio tent offers a luxurious extension that merges the outdoors within, seamlessly dovetailing onto a period property. Based on Andrea Palladio’s architectural symmetry, proportion and codification of the Classical Orders, the design reworks this formula whilst capturing the essence of a luxurious Orangery. The particularly tall design accommodates the classic proportions of the Venetian window, allowing an abundance of natural light into the airy space, ready to be dressed with specimen palms and bespoke silk screen murals.”
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:28 Page 37
Bringing the Outdoors in
“Whether using a marquee as an extension of a property or a standalone structure, it’s important that it blends seamlessly into its surroundings and complements the landscape – and bringing the outdoors in is a great way to achieve this. Just as we try to create tranquil green spaces in the home with houseplants and earthy tones, wedding and events spaces are following suit. We’re experiencing huge demand for woodenframed, natural canvas structures that feature wooden flooring and botanical-print cotton linings. Greenery is also being used in new and creative ways outside of the traditional table setting; from dressing the tent beams with leafy foliage, to incorporating beautiful displays of plants and trees as the centrepiece or entranceway to the marquee.”
Every Tent has its Lining
“Not to be underestimated, the decorative linings of a tent or marquee can significantly influence the overall look and feel of the interior space, together with the broader display of props, furnishings and decorations. Depending on the choice of structure, linings can often be customised for both the borders and the roof, offering greater opportunity to experiment with styles and colour schemes. Trending designs for 2019 include a fabulous array of delicate botanical artwork as well as crustacea and vintage vegetable prints. Classical and floral styles inspired by Edwardian wallpapers and of ancient mogul drawings are also increasingly popular. Our linings are designed in-house and produced by screen and block printers in Jaipur, using only natural pigments and cloths.”
The Art Deco Dancehall Revival
“With the imminent centenary of the roaring ‘20s – an iconic era renowned for its opulent parties - we’re looking towards a celebration of renewed confidence and optimism towards the next decade. The new-age ‘super-hosts’ are taking their events to unexpected levels, starting with a lavishly decorated dining hall tent. The sheer magnificence of a huge candle-lit dining tent, historically inspired and intricately designed, with a single long table for 100 guests seated down the centre, immediately provides the wow-factor. Expect to see gold-tipped interiors, tent linings in rich colour combinations, decadent chandeliers and packed, lively dancefloors as this art deco luxe trend evolves.” For more information about LPM Bohemia, visit: www.lpmbohemia.com

Romance at the Reef Kelly and Oliver were married on 25th January 2019 at Reef Villa and Spa, Sri Lanka.
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:29 Page 47
How did you meet? Our Bridesmaid Jess, is a mutual friend and she set us up on a rather awkward blind date just over 8 years ago. We think she is a very good match maker!
How did the proposal happen? On a boat off the coast of Corfu in September 2016. I was snorkelling around the boat and Oli was fishing. Oli kept casting his line out towards me saying ‘I have caught a fishy, look!’. After about the 5th time of me telling him that he hadn’t caught a fish and to get that fish hook away from me, I got back on the boat in a huff. Once on the boat, Oli told me again that he had caught a fish and that I needed to reel the line in. It wasn’t until I dumped the hook on the boat deck, that I realised there was a diamond ring on the end of the fish line and he was trying to hook me! Very cheesy but also very original.
Where did the wedding take place? It took place at Reef Villa and Spa, Sri Lanka. We decided to get married abroad as we didn’t want a traditional UK wedding. For us, we wanted the day to be about us getting married and committing ourselves to one another rather than worrying about what colour napkins and flowers we were going to have, or arranging table plans for the 100s. We wanted an intimate wedding abroad and we are very lucky to have such understanding, amazing friends and family. We were fortunate enough to have 20 friends and family agree to come all the way to Sri Lanka to celebrate our special day with us
What did the bride wear? An Ivory, Stella York dress that had lace and crepe chiffon and clear beading. I had a fair few alternations to get it how I wanted. My veil was borrowed from my friend, Lara and my shoes were white wedges.
What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? Groom, Father of the Bride and bride/groom brothers wore cargo shorts, a white shirt and boat
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 21/07/2019 10:49 Page 48
shoes. The bridesmaids wore long blush, Bardot Lipsy dresses. Guests wore whatever they felt comfortable in.
What was your theme? Our colour scheme was blush pink mainly due to the bridesmaids’ dresses being that colour. Our overall theme was for people to be comfortable, relaxed and have a great time, after all the had travelled over 5,500 miles to share our special day with us! Describe your cake On our wedding day we didn’t have a wedding cake as the Grooms mother wanted to make our cake. We had a UK party with all our friends and family where we had a 4-tier cake adorned with a garland of pink lillies (the cakes were almond raspberry sponge, Jamaican ginger cake and fruit cake). We also had our first dance at our UK party. It was a great excuse to wear the dress and celebrate all over again. Something Blue? Oli bought me a Sri Lankan Sapphire and diamond ring as a wedding gift, so I wore this as my something blue. My something old was an antique platinum diamond ring which my mother gave me as a wedding gift. My something borrowed was my veil from my dear friend, Lara and of course I had a six pence in my shoe!
What were the highlights? There were so many highlights! For us it was the location, venue and the 5* service. Reef Villa and Spa is truly beautiful, and the pictures do not do it justice. We were very lucky as there were no other guests staying in the hotel on our wedding day, so the venue was exclusive. It meant that we could have a truly intimate wedding without any strangers gawping at us exchange our vows or watching us eating our dinner. The general manager and the staff couldn’t do enough for us doing the finest job and made sure that we had the best day. For our guests I think the highlight was the food, they all commented how fantastic it was.
Your best buy? I’m not too sure about best buy but the best find was Reef Villa & Spa by far!
How did it end? We wrapped up the wedding with a 3-course meal and plenty of champagne, wine and beer! We also had fireworks which we would recommend, and we had a surprise visit from Fred and Wilma (gorgeous Labradors). They could only stay for one drink, but it was nice of them to pop in for one. Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? No, it was perfect.
Where did you go on honeymoon? Sri Lanka. We travelled around the island – it was beautiful!

summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:30 Page 51
How did you meet? A few days before Valentine's Day, a mutual couple introduced us, but it was really Charlie (Kevin's yellow lab) who sealed the deal. When Charlie saw me he knew I was the one (and ran full speed ahead to let everyone know). Kevin was just as smitten and asked me to spend Valentine's Day with him and Charlie, and when I showed up with dog treats and beer Kevin knew he had found the one. It's safe to say that Charlie is no longer just Kevin's dog!
How did the proposal happen? I came home one day after work to find Kevin on the front porch of our 1920’s bungalow with Charlie. He opened the door to our house where there were rose petals on the floor, the Christmas tree lights on and I immediately knew. He grabbed the ring from the top of the tree (where he had stored it on the angel’s harp) and got down on one knee. Where did the wedding take place? At Sunken Gardens in St Petersburg, Florida, beautiful 100+ year-old botanical gardens.
What did the bride wear? A simple and classic all crepe gown by Pronovias. I must have tried

on more than 60 gowns, but this one just felt the most like me. What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? Beautiful blush coloured dresses. They all looked stunning! What was your theme? Garden-party
Describe your cake I have a sweet tooth, so I was super excited about picking out the cake flavours. We went with a “his” and “hers” – mine was local honey infused vanilla cake with blackberry lavender buttercream frosting and his was chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream frosting. The cake was super simple with brush-like strokes of our colours on the sides. Something Blue? My mother’s blue sapphire ring.
What were the highlights? The entire day and weekend was more amazing than I could have ever dreamed! The reading of our vows is a moment that I’ll never forget. We wrote them ourselves and when we read them at the ceremony it was the first time hearing them – it was so amazing.
Your best buy? This is a hard one! All of our vendors really made the day so special. The best buy might have been our amazing photographer who captured the moments to well! How did it end? We ended with everyone on the dance floor dancing to Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine.” Kevin and I then casually left to change before the epic afterparty. Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? To not sweat the small stuff. Everything I stressed about didn’t end up mattering or making any difference to my guests.
Where did you go on honeymoon? We “mini-mooned” to Marco Island (just 2 hours south of St. Pete) and are going on a road trip to Seattle to San Francisco in May for two weeks!

Love in the Lakes
Nicola and Martin were married on 13th October 2018 at Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa, Keswick, Lake District
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:30 Page 55
How did you meet? We met at work; we worked for the same company but in different offices.
How did the proposal happen? We were on holiday in Santorini June 2017 – Martin had arranged it all with my mam and dad, after asking my dad’s permission (traditional style) – Martin decided he wanted it to be a surprise and I had always said I wouldn’t want to be proposed to on an already significant day (so not on Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, etc.). So whilst we were away it was the 21st June (the longest day and also happened to be my nana’s birthday, who passed away when I was 1), so Martin decided to do it on the 21st June 2017 at sunset in Santorini in honour of my nana’s birthday.
Where did the Wedding take place? Our ceremony and reception took place at Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa, Keswick, Lake District
What did the bride wear? I wore an Ivory A-line Mori Lee dress from YAP Bridal Boutique in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It had lots of beading with a diamanté belt round the waist. I had an Ivory Cathedral veil with diamanté on also.
What did the rest of the Bridal party wear? My bridesmaid had a floor length burnt orange dress from I Do Bridal Boutique, Gateshead. The flower girl wore an Ivory satin dress from M & S with a custom made burnt orange sash round the waist. The Groom, Best Man, Usher and Father of The Bride all wore Navy/Orange/Tan Tweed suits from Master Debonair, Boldon.
What was your theme? The theme of our wedding was an Autumnal Wonderland, lots of autumn leaves, warm glow fairy lights, tea lights, ivory, gold, burnt orange and brown/red colours, false autumn trees and ivory blossom trees with tea lights. It was like a fairy tale (if I may say so myself) the flowers were all autumnal (Chinese lanterns, cala lilly, red berries, dark green/purple foliage – to match the wilderness of the Lake District).
Describe your cake. Our cake was three tiers (bottom tier was chocolate, middle tier was salted caramel and the top tier was white chocolate) we went for warm comfort food flavours to match the season and it was decorated to look like an autumn sunset with some of our real flowers/foliage made into a garland to go from the top to the bottom of the cake. Our cake was made by Jeanette at Chantilly Cake Couture, Hexham. Something Blue? I had a little blue bow sewn into my dress and I had an ‘I Do’ blue diamante sticker on my shoe from my friend as my something blue.
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:30 Page 56
What were the highlights? Having all our family friends in one place at the same time to celebrate was great. We also had Storm Callum the weekend of our wedding which makes our day very memorable, it absolutely poured from the Friday morning until the Sunday morning, but it did not ruin one thing, everyone made it and our photos were great (me and Martin braved the rain with our umbrellas and me in my dress and wellies).
Your best buy? Most definitely my dress, but in terms of the whole wedding paying for a decorator (in our case Yvonne) was just the best thing we ever did, we had no worries at all, she handled everything and really brought our wedding vision to life. How did it end? We danced our last song to Mr. Brightside, literally everyone (young and older) was up dancing and then 2 rounds of shots were bought to finish the night off. I would like to say I had one very drunken groom (who did not make it down to breakfast the next day!)
Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? The only thing I wish we had of done differently was had some of our evening food and some of our amazing cheese board put aside for me and Martin, because we were so busy seeing guests and having our photos done, we didn’t get any! But we were told it was fabulous food. Where did you go on honeymoon? We didn’t go on honeymoon because we went to New York and Las Vegas earlier in the year for my 30th birthday, so we stayed on in the Lake District for an extra week in a Luxury Lodge for our mini moon, it was fabulous, like an extension to our wedding.

Barefoot Paradise at
OBLU Select at Sangeli
White sands and crystal clear waters make the Maldives the perfect place for a honeymoon. We visited the breathtakingly beautiful OBLU Select at Sangeli, for a truly unforgettable experience.
summer2019.qxp_Layout 1 18/07/2019 21:30 Page 64
he wind in your hair as you speed across the turquoise waters taking in deserted islands, marine life and fresh sea air is not something many of us associate with an airport transfer, but then most airport transfers are not on a private luxury speed boat heading towards one of the most idyllic islands on earth.
T
Situated in the North-Western tip of Male Atoll, Maldives is the island of Sangeli, home to OBLU Select at Sangeli, an island that takes your breath away and somewhere that is the ultimate in honeymoon goals, a picture postcard of paradise. From the moment your luxury speedboat grinds to a halt, you know what it’s like to be treated like royalty.
Greeted by an ensemble of smiling barefoot staff, who welcome you with beating drums and smiling faces the reality suddenly hits that this stay is going to be beyond amazing. The island is just an instagrammable heaven, boasting bright turquoise waters, diamond-white sugary sands, palmfringed wooden boardwalks and clear blue skies, a honeymoon dream come true. Are you a water baby or a beach bum? The choice is yours when it comes to accommodation, there’s overwater villas or beach bungalows. But for the ultimate honeymoon experience you need to stay in one of the exclusive Honeymoon Overwater Vilas (there are only six in total) situated on their own wooden jetty and the epitome of luxury. Suspended on stilts over the crystal-clear water, this is what dreams are made of. This suite will leave you speechless, with its’ enormous round bed, draped in silk, with a mirrored ceiling porthole, that at the press of a button slides back to reveal the beautiful twinkling sky at night or the clear blue sky by day, positioned perfectly for a view of the ocean as you wake up every morning. Step into the huge bathroom, with its deep, red, free-standing bath; the outdoor shower that allows for privacy, yet has you looking down watching the fish swim below you. Step outside onto your private sundeck, and you’ll be mesmerized at your own infinity pool and private steps that lead you straight into the azure blue ocean. You can borrow snorkelling equipment from the resort’s diving centre, so you can explore the coral and marine life from the comfort of your own villa. It’s the small touches that count, and there are many of those here, from a fully stocked fridge including champagne (which is replenished everyday), to your own dedicated butler, ensuring you feel like the most elite and pampered guest on the island.
Food here is an absolute pleasure, the resort has three restaurants catering for all tastes The Courtyard, (open all day) looks out onto the soft white sand and turquoise clear waters making it not only a foodie’s delight, but also a scene straight from a picture postcard . There’s breakfast buffet choices of just about everything, think fresh tropical fruit, pastries, curry, sushi, smoothies, along with cooking stations that change the offerings every day, for a true Maldivian breakfast try the mas huni, a healthy mixture of tuna, onion, coconut and chilli, eaten cold with roshi (unleavened bread, like an Indian chapati). For lunch and dinner there’s a varied selection of western cuisine, soups, noodles, rice, Indian curries, fish and speciality Maldivian dishes.

Just Grill a is all about fresh seafood and meat grills, (ordered via a tablet) that includes such things as reef fish carpaccio, a mouth-watering treat of reef fish with a lime dressing and accompanied with green mango and papaya as well as seafood skewers, yellow fin tuna and mix grill skewer – all the food is so fresh and a succulent masterpiece. Simply Veg is another culinary delight, here you choose from set menus ‘Contrast’, ‘Local’, ‘Colours’ and ‘Blend’ - I chose ‘Colours’ and was treated to an explosion of delightful textures and tastes in dishes such as Red Triangle, a samosa filled with beetroot anise on top of a goat’s cheese and paprika tzatziki and Asian Shine, asparagus, sweet melon and glass noodles with a citrus soya dressing, dining here really is a divine journey of fresh flavoursome food. Sunsets in the Maldives are breath-taking, an explosion of colours, made even more stunning by the gently lapping of the ocean in the background, be sure to grab yourself a cocktail, pull up a chair and watch from the small jetty at The Rock Bar.
Because complete indulgence is a must on your honeymoon, make sure you take time for a little pampering at the resort’s ELENA spa. If you’re feeling adventurous there’s plenty of activities available including snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing, and of course a trip to the Maldives wouldn’t be complete without the chance to dive and explore the wonders that lie beneath the surface, OBLU Select has its own ………. So, you’re guaranteed
If diving’s not for you, then grab a snorkel and flippers and try your hand at snorkelling, you’ll be amazed at the amount of underwater beauty you still manage to see, glistening coral, beautiful anemone fish hiding in their anemones, gorgeous colourful clams, gentle hawksbill turtles and bright yellow angel fish are just a handful of the underwater world you’ll manage to get a glimpse of in the aquamarine waters surrounding this resort.

Hideaway at
Highbullen hy go abroad when the UK itself has some breathtakingly beautiful places, ideal for escaping with your partner for a sneaky premoon or minimoon before jetting off somewhere exotic later in the year.
W
Highbullen Hotel in North Devon is the ideal place for this. Spread across a 127-acre estate between Exmoor and Dartmoor, this gothic-fronted country house hotel is a destination in its own right, with an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool and spa, all within the grounds, means you don’t have to venture into the real world throughout your whole stay.
The historic Manor House dates back to 1879 and is home to 12 beautiful bedrooms, whilst a further 30 bedrooms can be found throughout the Estate along with 4 stand-alone sumptuous self-catering cottages and finally the ideal accommodation for a romantic escape, the luxurious ‘Loft Suite.’ Located within the main hotel this suite is just spectacular, why would you want to leave when you have everything you need all behind the closed door? Walk through the Loft Suite door directly into a small entrance area, complimented by a colour palette of yellow and grey Laura Ashley wallpaper, coat hooks that spell out Highbullen and your own private infa-red sauna, complete with colour changing mood lights and sound system, it’s a wonder we made it up the stairs to the first floor to explore the rest of the suite, but I’m glad we did, the contemporary luxe feel just kept on flowing.
The grey palette continued up the stairs into the main bathroom complete with a monsoon shower, White Company toiletries and a steam room - this isn’t just a suite it’s like your own hideaway apartment hidden away inside the historic walls of this beautiful country house. The lounge is spacious with a charcoal grey velvet sofa, Nintendo Wii, 3D Blu-ray player and even 3D glasses! Then there’s the bedroom, absolutely gorgeous, from the sumptuously comfortable bed, floor to ceiling window complete with window seat to the freestanding bath, everything here was beautifully indulgent – the only problem was to steam, sauna or bath! I chose to bath and hubbie chose to steam, it’s just like having your own private spa, one of which we would have happily luxuriated in for the duration of our stay but bellies were rumbling and food was calling in the form of dinner in the hotels Devon View Restaurant, aptly named because of the stunning scenery that is visible from every angle of the room thanks to the vast windows surrounding the restaurant. But first pre-dinner drinks served in the cellar bar, a cosy space for a drink, bar snack or game of billiards, which of course we played and of course I didn’t win!
We pursued the menu (one that uses locally sourced produce as much as it can) as we relaxed in the atmospheric cellar, G&T in one hand, menu in the other, until our starters were ready and we were lead through into the restaurant.
An amuse bouche of leek and potato soup began our culinary journey, full of strong delicious flavours a sure sign of the delightful meal that was to follow. We had both opted for the free-range chicken thigh for starters, which was served with a poached hen egg (cooked to perfection) on top of a sage crumble. The meaty flavours of the chicken were enhanced further by the egg and sage and proved to be a perfect combination of flavours for the palette. Mains were a Tarragon mustard fillet of hake with crushed potatoes, broad beans, courgettes and bok choy. Colourfully presented, this dish reflected the flavours of springtime effortlessly and was a mouth-wateringly delicious treat for the taste buds.
Hubbie’s mains was a roasted duck breast with fondant potato, roasted artichokes and braised red cabbage, a flavoursome dish that was cooked to perfection, a definite hit.
I decided to end the evening with a Belgian milk chocolate marquise which was served with banana and lime ice cream and toffee popcorn, the crunchy popcorn textures complimented the smooth delicious chocolate marquise effortlessly and the ice cream brought a refreshing after taste to the palette. Hubbie opted for the pineapple soufflé which was served with toasted coconut ice cream – the soufflé was light (as it should be) with the pineapple adding a delicious fruity kick. Suitably full from some fabulous food, we debated another game of billiards (I could try to win at least one game), but the pull of our unique Loft Suite was too great, so we retired to our room for a little more spa-ing before retiring for a blissful night’s sleep.
Breakfast the next morning was a delightful assortment of buffet and freshly ordered dishes from the menu. I highly recommend the pancakes with maple syrup and hubbie loved the full Devon breakfast, everything was so fresh and tasty.
It was a beautiful sunny day so we decided to head out to Woolacombe for a walk on the beach and some fresh sea air. If you’re not a beach lover there’s plenty of other things to entice you to explore, from pretty Devon villages with cosy country pubs and old churches to lovely gardens such as Castle Hill and RHS Rosemoor, the latter being home to the largest rose garden in the southwest. For walking enthusiasts, the South West Coast Path, Exmoor and Dartmoor are perfect for rambling walks, horse riding or simply taking in the wild and rugged scenery. The smell of fresh seaside fish and chips was so tempting, but we didn’t succumb (we can always come back tomorrow) as we were heading back to Highbullen and its newly opened Laura Ashley Tea Rooms for a Great British tradition – Afternoon Tea. Designed in the distinctive Laura Ashley style, the room is just perfect in every

way. From its spectacular scenery, lofty ceilings, stunning lighting and relaxing fire, the colour palette of light greys, yellows and whites accentuated with turquoise blue velvet chairs and accessories is the ideal place to enjoy afternoon tea, served of course on Laura Ashley crockery.
The afternoon tea itself was a decadent delight of savoury treats (hot fish goujons with tartare sauce and homemade warm duck and quail scotch egg, served with a mild curried chutney). Finger sandwiches, thinly cut without the crusts with fillings of egg mayonnaise, ham & mustard, cucumber & smoked salmon, and plain cream cheese as well as the tastiest smoked salmon crostini and Mediterranean savoury tart. Then there was the appetizing selection of handmade cakes and warm buttermilk scones, one plain and one with golden raisins, served with Devon clotted cream and strawberry jam. Lovely fresh food served in a beautiful relaxing room, what more could you want? Well maybe a massage, to melt away all the aches in my body from doing nothing! The spa is a tranquil haven, perfect for a swim, unwinding in the jacuzzi, sauna or steam room or just relaxing in the sun on the terrace. I left hubbie chilling on the terrace whilst I spoilt myself with a massage that the highly trained ELEMIS therapist tuned to my bodies needs perfectly.
