Forest fairytale Brides Name: Natasha Moore Grooms Name: Robert Moore Date of Wedding: 16th June 2012 How did you meet? We had known each other most of our lives, having gone through the same middle and upper school (even though I am slightly older than Robert). I had never really spoken to Robert at school as I was always the overweight teenager and he was ‘Mr Popular’ who wouldn’t be seen dead talking to an overweight girl. Our parents have also known each other for a number of years, with my dad being from Lidlington, which was also where Robert’s mum and partner lived; and where Robert has lived his whole life. A few years back Robert and his mum moved to Marston Moretaine, which is the village I have lived in all my life. I was working behind the bar at the local social club every Sunday evening whilst I was still studying at school, and this became Robert’s new local. We got talking and things went from there....dates etc, before moving in together some 4 or 5 years later.

What did the bridal party wear? I wore a traditional ‘A-line’ Maggie Sottero dress in a light gold colour. The adult bridesmaids all wore aubergine dresses with a small diamante buckle at the front. They all had matching pearl hairbands and single pearl drop necklaces with earrings to match. Our flowergirl wore a light gold dress to match mine from a selection at BHS. We hired grey tailed suits for the men, with the best man and ushers wearing aubergine cravats to match the bridesmaids. Robert wore a light gold cravat to match my dress (unbeknown to him at the time). Men aren’t that easy on the eye to notice the difference between light gold and traditional ivory! What was your wedding day style? I opted for the vintage theme, using a lot of creams and incorporating those with aubergine, which is my favourite colour. I also have a love of pearls and butterflies so added these in where possible.

How did the proposal happen? We were on holiday in Calpe, Spain with my mum and dad. Robert and I had gone out for a wander one evening along the beach. We got to a pretty verander overlooking the beach when Robert dropped down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a funny moment as when he began to propose, I thought he had stumbled and fallen, so was more concerned about him hurting himself than what he was actually asking me. So much so, that I forgot to say yes! My mum and dad already knew about the proposal taking place, with my mum stashing the ring, as Robert knew I’d be putting holiday bits in his case. When we returned to the apartment, my mum and dad had champagne waiting to celebrate. Where did the wedding take place? We got married at St Mary’s Church in Marston Moretaine and the reception was held in a beautiful marquee at The Forest Centre in Marston Moretaine.

What accessories did you have? I wore a cathedral length cream veil which was scattered with pearls and a tiara from the Jon Richards selection at Debenhams. I wore pearls, including a vintage bracelet I had purchased from Twinwoods festival the previous year. I focused on cream vintage table number holders and accessories for the tables, with pearl and aubergine table confetti. My tables were named after Mariah Carey songs as she is another love of mine. We also had mini cupcakes in individually wrapped bags, which acted as table place names. I bought a mirror and spray painted the frame to match my vintage theme. This was where I placed my table plan on the day which was very effective. We also had a wishing tree instead of a guest book, where people could write messages on little butterfly cards and hang them on the branches of the tree. 28

Flowers by Davies Design

Describe your wedding rings? Robert went for a single diamond white gold wedding band whereas I had my wedding ring made to fit my engagement ring. It has a row of 8 diamonds in and was made by Phelans in Milton Keynes who I can highly recommend. What were the highlights? Definitely too many to mention, but I have to say the chocolate fountain that we hired went down very well with the guests, as did the hog roast which was hosted by Ingle & Caves Butchers in Marston Moretaine. How did it end? We had a buffet for guests in the evening as well as entertainment by a DJ from Maulden, Bedfordshire. Robert and I left the reception at midnight in a Rolls Royce that his dad and step-mum had hired for us and spent the night at South Lodge in Wavendon in a lovely studio apartment, which Robert had booked as a surprise. Is there anything you now wish you’d done differently? I don’t think there would be anything I would change about the day....it was perfect to us in every way. Where did you go on honeymoon? We decided to go long haul and opted to go to Thailand for our honeymoon. We spent 3 nights in Bangkok, before flying to the island of Koh Samui where we spent a further 12 nights. We had an amazing time touring the island. We went elephant trekking, fed a baby tiger and most importantly survived the heat! We can’t wait to go back again! What plans do you have for your future together? To live a long and happy life together as husband and wife.

The trend for seasonality continues in AW with British blooms taking pride of place. The popularity of soft vintage shades also continues – think dusky pinks, greying purples and sage greens.

French Rose Bouquet

Beautiful Botanicals

These shades will be interspersed with bright colour pops in pink, purple and yellow. There’s a distinct shift away from tight, architectural arrangements. It’s about celebrating the wild form of flowers. AW will also see a return to elegance with hints of 1920s styling and nods towards The Great Gatsby, Downton Abbey and all things period drama. Expect rich colours teamed with old gold, pearls, antique mirrors, velvet, brocade, beading and lots of texture.

We always like to give our customers pleasure in eating our food, when I was a young child I appreciated all the different flavours and the wonderful smells from the home grown vegetables and herbs my mother would use when I was growing up. I was brought up on a farm, learning where our food came from and what a difference fresh Ingredients make.

Love at Longstowe Brides Name: Megan Northrop Grooms Name: Nick Northrop Date of Wedding: 14th September 2012 pink ballet shoes and miniature bouquet flowers in their hair.

How did you meet? Nick and I met as a blind date which one of our mutual friends set up, when we were both studying for our A Levels at Long Road Sixth Form College.

What was your wedding day style? The style of the whole wedding day I would describe as country vintage.

How did the proposal happen? We had an organised day out to go on a hot air balloon ride from Little Gransden, Sandy; to fly over our home in Longstowe. Little did I know that Nick had also organised to propose to me during the flight. He got down on one knee in the basket and proposed to me, with the antique ring I had mentioned I would love as my engagement ring 2 months prior.

What accessories did you have? I had a full length cathedral vale and pearl beaded hair clips. I wore pearl bracelets (my something borrowed), pale blue stone earrings (my something blue), my grandmothers vintage brochure, which I attached to my garter (my something old) and then a six pence in my shoe.

Where did the wedding take place? Our wedding took place at St Marys church Longstowe and the reception at Longstowe Hall. Both being very special to both of us as we lived in the village at the time and Nick grew up in Longstowe. We are told that we are the only couple that have lived in the village, to be married in the church and then have the reception at the Hall.

Describe your wedding rings? Nick chose a traditional D shaped platinum ring for his band. My wedding band was dictated by my vintage engagement ring, as the stone and diamonds create an unusual shape. I chose a wedding band to fix around my engagement ring, with diamonds inset in the band.

What did the bridal party wear? I had three bridesmaids, two adult and one teenager. The adult bridesmaids wore strapless, pale green, chiffon maxi dresses. The younger bridesmaid wore a netted midlength pale pink dress with pearl beading detail. Their accessories were cream and pale pink pearls, flat pale

What were the highlights? The whole day was a highlight for us. The weather being so sunny was one of the bigger highlights as it allowed us to make full use of the stunning grounds at Longstowe hall and for Neil our photographer to take amazing pictures with this scenery. 42

Affinity wedding AW2013 8_Layout 1 copy 01/10/2013 05:30 Page 41

How did it end? The evening ended at Longstowe Hall with lots of hugs and kisses for everybody leaving, with a few tears as well. Close family and friends joined us for a final few drink s at the Belfry Hotel in Camborne. We also had a nice surprise organised for us, an upgraded room with champagne and chocolates. Is there anything you now wish you’d done differently? I do not wish anything to be done differently on the day; it was all perfect for us. However I would change the build-up to the wedding slightly as I think I was over worried and stressed about little things, trying to make it perfect and those elements would not have mattered on the day. Where did you go on honeymoon? For our honeymoon we decided on a hot, beach, relaxation style and went to Koh Samui off the coast of Thailand. What plans do you have for your future together? Currently we are just enjoying our time together as a married couple. We plan to go on some holidays in the not too distance future and possible plans for a family at some point.

Cocktail Hens Traditionally your Hen Party involves drinking of one kind or another so we decided to add a little sophistication to ours with a ‘Cocktail Masterclass’ that included our very own mixologist and the added bonus - we didn’t have to head miles away we went up the road to M Champagne & Cocktail Lounge in the Hub at Milton Keynes.

W

e arrived at M Lounge to be welcomed by Alan our mixologist and were immediately given a welcome glass of bubbles and some nibbles, a small introduction and then the poor guy tried inbetween our hackling and interrupting to give us a brief history of cocktails, the special bar tools that are used and introduce us to the stories behind certain ones. Then it was time for the best bit……………….. We voted the first cocktail he show us how to make was a classic Mojito, he made it look easy – could we do it as well as him? Probably not but we put our skills to the test to much amusement, laughing and showing off, the bonus is not only do you get to sample Alan’s cocktail, you get to drink your own as well!!!! Next up was a cosmopolitan – it looked simple – so we put our newly learnt skills to the test yet again and conjured up something that resembled a cosmopolitan and was just as tasty - little did we know it’s all in the wrist action!!! This fun and interactive session made for a great evening full of so much fun and laughter and not a naked man in sight! We then chose a couple of ingredients and Alan conjured up cocktails from them, he is a very brave man! By far this was a great start to a Hen Night something we all agreed we would recommend to any group of girls it was soo much fun!! But be warned if you are a light weight then you might want to sit out on a few cocktails as we could hardly walk out the door – luckily we had our fabulous photographer who made sure none of us came to any harm!
