AllianceFranรงaise de Melbourne We teach French
French Language & Cultural Centre since 1890 Not-for-profit Australian association
Bienvenue
à l’Alliance française de Melbourne ! The Alliance française de Melbourne (AFM) opened its doors 124 years ago and continues to welcome students, members and lovers of all things French with a warm smile. Like a good French wine the AFM improves with age and takes pride in the years of experience and wisdom gained. Our expertise in teaching French has matured over the years and we have had enough time to test various teaching and support methods to ensure that our students receive the best possible French experience from both a language and cultural perspective. We continue to develop and embrace new ideas and in July 2013 we united with another of Melbourne’s ‘grand-dames’ to bring the spirit of France to the heart of the CBD.
For the first time the AFM offered a range of daily French classes at the State Library of Victoria enabling city workers and those living north of the Yarra to learn the ‘language of love’ without having to travel to our main centre in St Kilda. Melbourne is full of francophiles and francophones and there is an ever growing interest in the French language, culture and cuisine. We are privileged to play a part in the many aspects of the French culture for which we are renowned for. We encourage you to visit us to experience the popular Alliance française French film festival, a myriad of exhibitions and events focusing on cuisine, art, literature, music and contemporary affairs. France is truly at your doorstep! Saliha LEFEVRE, Director

I was instantly interested in the role at the Alliance française de Melbourne as it offered so much variety and I knew I could grow within my profession. I began with the children in Les Petits Loups and loved it immediately; it was so exciting to see Australian children learning so quickly my mother tongue. “
The library at the Alliance francaise St Kilda is a superb resource. Celine, the librarian, is a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate her advice on materials to support my French studies. Visiting the library weekly, I always find inspiring new additions. It is a joy to watch a DVD and the books with audio discs assist in learning pronunciation and acquiring a knowledge of vocabulary. The library resources compliment weekly grammar classes and enhances the joy of learning the French language.
