REFLECTING ON MY HBDI AND DISC ASSESSMENT PREFERENCE CODE: DISC CODE:
2 2 2 1 6 5 1 5
Having a 2,2,2,1 preference code, stressed on yellow, for my HBDI profile wasn't a surprise. I always lean towards a creative approach and thinking about doing something in a different way. Sometimes when people reject my suggestions because they're foreign or unconventional I think they're being closed-minded. One of the biggest takeaways from both of these assessments is that in situations like I mentioned above it may be beneficial for me to remember that the individual may not be close-minded as much as they think and approach tasks or challenges differently. The creative tools and heuristics we've learned in class are certainly helping push my creativity to its maximum potential--there is still much room for improvement. I mentioned in my first assessment that my DISC charted me as creative and that meant I wanted the freedom to challenge normal protocol especially if that means opportunity for challenge and/or success down the road. Thinking about this in regards to the class I have two thoughts. The first is that, yes, I absolutely seek out different ways to do something. The second thought is that this habit can be as dangerous as it is potentially rewarding. On my C4 I tried to stretch it different ways, and while that may have been OK, it distracted my focus from what needed to be there content-wise and the overall project was lack-luster. The other insight I had was my weakness for unclear communication of ideas due to false consensus, or believing everyone understands what I'm saying. The biggest piece of advice I've heard on this was from Igoodea about taking the presentation of ideas and "dumbing" them down to the simplicity that a five year old would require to understand. This will be a point of improvement down the road.
