INSPIRING A SHARED VISION COACHING

I'm running out of time to finish up this last doc before the deadline so it will be bare bones but I wanted to make sure I mentioned it. Last week I convinced my friend to join me on a week-long 5 am challenge. This was my way of testing "Inspire a shared vision". My friend is highly ambitious but could use help being highly motivated, as can I. This seemed like a great opportunity to exercise my leadership skills. For the first three days we got up at five (I actually got up at 4:45 because in order to inspire the vision I had to lead him to the vision the first few times). The night before I'd send some things for him to watch and read to motivate him such as Eric Thomas' "Until you want to succeed..." as well as US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven's "Make your bed" speech. We got up each morning and did some school work and then would go the the gym when it opens at 6 am. I also talked to my friend about what his struggles were and where he wanted to improve in an attempt to flex my coaching muscles. Questions I asked him were mostly open ended like I practiced in class such as "How are you going to commit to that or initiate change before tomorrow morning?". The point was that I wanted to inspire a like minded individual to start challenging his own process by starting small. I don't know how successful I was or how much he got out of it but I did learn the importance of this: Leadership is about knowing yourself first and living your values. By doing those two things, the right people will take notice and follow you. You can't hold anyone's hand in this world. At the end of the day if someone wants to initiate change they will with or without my hep.
